Romance trope: shifter Length: 90+ chapters and 3 epilogues
Plot: Nova is a young wolf shifter, just 17, and has recently shifted for the first time. When the alpha's son, Zaryn, arrives home from his training, she realizes that he's her mate. There's a problem though: he brought home his pregnant one-night-stand. Zaryn and Nova will have to go through a journey to discover if love really is enough to conquer all.
Commentary: Cliches included in this story: *young adult/new adult, specifically the teenage girl who has or develops special powers and can save everyone (and becomes wise enough to counsel everyone, even people two or three times her age with commensurate life experience). *rejected mate (lampshaded) *ineffective/weak current alpha/luna (parents of hero) - will need to be deposed or punished or both *evil other woman (somewhat lampshaded but it took a while) *other alphas who interfere/take heroine under their wings *Moon goddess who confers special abilities or privileges upon heroine *major battle towards end of story
Now look, I knew what I was getting into by reading a Wattpad shifter story. But I saw this recommended in one of my book groups online so I thought it might have something different. Stories are made up of tropes (excellent book on the subject: The Trope Thesaurus). I understand that. However,
Grammar/formatting: Needs serious editing/revising for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and clarity - the author mentioned towards the end in an author's note that it was being copyedited.
Za run and Nova’s mate ship gets off to a very rough start and they both don’t handle it well. Lost of twists and turns in plot. Many secrets revealed from previous generation and hoping when these main characters next generation are old enough they air their secrets too so as to not continue the cycle. Loved this book and eagerly await sequel on next generation. Appears this finished 2017 so if anyone knows if sequel done please let me know.
