Capturing the Texas Rancher's Heart

Rate this book
She thought she’d protected her heart…

After a tumultuous childhood, nurse Jamie Westmoreland craves the comfort of predictability. She loves her quiet life in a small Texas ranching town and finally feels in control until a handsome rancher becomes her newest patient. He challenges her at every turn, but Jamie is too stubborn to admit she enjoys their sparring, and that he makes her heart race. But when his charming little cowboy son starts following her around, her long-neglected heart opens.

Thomas Tremayne, the eldest son of a well-respected local ranching family, is both mom and dad to his young son and has no plans to change. When a ranch injury requires an in-house expert, the nurse who called him out on his attitude is sent to help him heal. She’s even harder to resist on his ranch than she was at the hospital, but Thomas is determined to try—except he’s out-numbered. His son decided he wants a mom, and nurse Jamie is his choice.

Can two stubborn adults let down their guard long enough to let love in again?

Born and raised in the Lone Star state of Texas, Debra grew up among horses, cowboys, wide open spaces, and real Texas Rangers. Pride in her state and ancestry knows no bounds and it is these heroes and heroines she loves to write about the most. She also draws upon a variety of life experiences including working with abused children, caring for baby animals at a major zoo, and planning high-end weddings (ah, romance!).
Debra's real pride and joys, however, are her son, an aspiring film actor, and a daughter with aspirations to join the Federal Bureau of Investigation. (more story ideas!) When she isn't busy writing about tall Texans and feisty heroines, she can be found cheering on her Texas Tech Red Raiders, or heading off on another cruise adventure. She read her first romance...Janet Dailey's Fiesta San Antonio, over thirty years ago and became hooked on the genre. Writing contemporary romances, is both her passion and dream come true, and she hopes her books will bring smiles...and sighs... to all who believe in happily-ever-after's.

A sweet small-town romance.

Jamie Westmoreland and Thomas Tremayne first met in the hospital where he was recovering from an injury that required surgery. Neither one of them really liked the other. Jamie soon finds herself in the position of caring for Thomas at his ranch, as a private-duty nurse. Taking care of a stubborn cowboy was definitely not what she signed up to do.

Thomas is a single father and a hard worker. He isn’t going to let this injury keep him down. He has a ranch to run and a son to raise. Then he finds out the prickly nurse from the hospital is going to be staying with him to help him through the rest of his recovery. Little did Thomas or Jamie know, they would soon find themselves falling in love.

I enjoyed seeing Jamie and Thomas let their guard down enough to get to know each other and finally fall in love. I really liked Andy, Thomas’s son, a lot. He sure did steal a few scenes. This is the perfect start to a new series that I look forward to catching up with.

A lovely romance set in Texas, with wonderful characters, including a precocious little boy “Capturing the Texas Rancher’s Heart”, by Debra Holt (Tule Publishing), exalts the importance of family and family ties and shows how two people with baggage find their HEA.
The story has elements of romanticism and idealism - where the dashing, honorable hero falls for the determined, independent yet lonely heroine - that are very appealing.
I must say, Thomas is alluring – as are Gray, Truitt and Trey – all that honor, chivalry, thoughtfulness in the tough, confident rancher who is so smitten with the heroine. And then, there’s that role in which Thomas excels and shines: fatherhood. Thomas and Andy’s relationship is one of the most heartwarming dimensions of the book.
I loved watching the interaction between the wounded, bedridden or semi-incapacitated, alpha and the determined nurse in the beginning
I found the heroine, Jamie, brave and resolute. Her past is troubled, but she is a strong woman and surely deserves happiness. The personal relationship with Thomas while she was still her nurse bothered me a bit (and the fact it didn’t seem to bother her at all).
The small town feeling and the support of family and friends are strong in the story, which introduces interesting, promising characters for future stories in this Tremaynes of Texas series.

I liked it but it will be 3,5 stars. Thomas was always pushing her away in some sense, like you could see he liked her and got jealous when some other man was making her smile but he couldn't fund common ground between them. Little Andy was the one that was their glue, that kid was so freaking adorable, loved him. Jamie was used to pushing people away too but she couldn't get rid if Thomas, no matter what. I loved all this characters, they were so good for each other and really did belong together. I gave this rating in the book because of the end. He tells her he loves her, she thinks she dreamed it (she was in the hospital) and when she finds out that he actually said it proceeds to continue to ignore him. She ask for space from everyone so he gave to her but, despite all this, she thinks he no longer loves her. THE ACTUAL HELL?? I hate when the FMC does this, it's not always up to the man to do things specially when he already gave the first step. And of course, he was the one that went after her again and told her loved her again. It just pisses me off

This new series centers around the Tremayne siblings . Siblings who have have survived a family tragedy and are stronger because of it.
Thomas Tremayne is the oldest of this very respected and wealthy family. His life is his young son and the ranch. An accident sends him to the hospital . Unbeknown to him, that event would change his life forever when he meets Jamie Westmoreland.
Jamie is the head nurse and the one assigned to his care. A private woman, she has come a long way from the abused childhood she barely survived.
When she meets the taciturn cowboy and his sweet boy, she is enchanted by the child but not so much by the father.
Assigned to be his home healthcare nurse, she moves to the ranch and captivates all those who meet her. The attraction is there, but so are the doubts. Things seem to be moving forward until the past and danger reappears. Will they get their HEA or will fate keep them apart?
It was a story about new beginnings, hope, trust and second chances in life and in love.
This was a great start to the series that promises to keep us entertain for quite some time with the unique personalities of the rest of the siblings.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

sweet clean romance with a little sassy

A sweet adult minded seven year old. His hard headed single dad. A strong willed nurse. Pops, Dottie, the Tremaynes siblings, a sheriff and of course someone that wants to cause problems. I had a good read. Thanks Debra Holt for introducing me to your Texas Tremaynes and the stories.

Capturing the Texas Rancher’s Heart by Debra Holt, book one in The Tremaynes of Texas series, was an enjoyable, heartwarming tale of two hurt, protective people. Nurse Jamie Westmoreland survived a difficult and turbulent childhood. She now flourishes with the comfort of stability, normalcy, and the quiet life provided by her small Texas ranching town; at least until a new patient challenges her and turns her world upside down. Thomas Tremayne, the eldest son of a well-respected ranching family, is mom and dad to his young son, Andy. A ranch injury has Thomas in need of an in-house specialist after being discharged from the hospital. Jamie is not happy with her assignment, as Thomas challenges her at every turn. Being as stubborn as Thomas, Jamie doesn’t want to admit that she enjoys their arguing along with her racing heart when she is near him. Being around Andy, Thomas’ little cowboy, and having him follow her around, opens Jamie’s heart to feelings long neglected. Thomas spends a lot of time and energy trying hard to resist his attraction to Jamie, but his son, Andy, has fallen under Jamie’s spell and wants her for his mom. Despite the magnetic attraction and chemistry Jamie and Thomas share, it’s going to take some magic and a community of love before these two will let down their defenses to let love into their hearts.

Ms. Holt wrote a sweet, heartwarming tale of small town ranch life filled with strong magnetism, sizzling chemistry, wonderful dialogue, and charming characters giving Jamie and Thomas a chance to open their hearts to love. I loved the involvement of Andy in this story. I highly recommend Capturing the Texas Rancher’s Heart to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.

Can two stubborn adults let down their guard long enough to let love in again?
This is Jamie Westmoreland and Thomas Tremayne 's story.
“S’cuse me.” The voice came out of nowhere… hesitant, almost timid, and barely above a squeak.
Jamie Westmoreland rose from her chair situated behind the nurse’s desk and peered over the edge of the console.
She saw a large white straw cowboy hat, red and blue plaid western shirt, huge silver buckle, denim jeans over brown cowboy boots.
Thomas Tremayne, Jr. was third on their short list.
“He’s in Room 201, but I’m afraid the policy is that no children below the age of twelve are allowed in this wing.”
She saw the hint of a tremble at the corner of the mouth of the little boy before her.
I recommend reading.
Capturing the Texas Rancher’s Heart by Debra Holt is a 4 star book.

This story really sucked me in from the start. It can be tricky when a child is featured prominently in a romance. Now the main characters have to have chemistry between each other and with the child. Let’s face it, a parent is not going to jump into a relationship with someone who doesn’t get along with their child. The author does an amazing job with the relationship between Jamie and little Andy. She never oversteps her role as his dad’s nurse, but still manages to give the young boy love and support.

Not to worry, there is also plenty of chemistry between Jamie and Thomas. He’s the classic grumpy cowboy who is used to being in control. He has a hard time letting anyone, especially a stranger, take care of him. He is never disrespectful or rude, per se. But it’s obvious Thomas isn’t comfortable having Jamie in his home, winning the hearts of his son and the rest of his family.

Jamie has a dark and traumatic past. (CW: abuse, neglect) She doesn’t trust easily, especially when it comes to men. She’s also extremely caring and giving so it’s hard for her to keep people at arm’s length as she would prefer.

There was a lot to like about this book. There were some timeline issues, but nothing major that disrupted the flow of the story too much. There is some interesting and terrible history in the Tremayne family past and I’m hoping it gets delved into a bit more with the other sibling’s stories.

For a lack of a better adjective at the moment, Capturing the Texas Rancher's Heart was great! This book had all the elements I describe in a perfect read. Truly a great book! All of the characters in this book were amazing.

Both the hero and the heroine had emotional baggage and issues that kept them lonely and mistrusting. It wasn't until after they met, that Jamie and Thomas started longing for something they couldn't put into words. This is definitely what I would describe as a slow burn romance. The pace of Thomas and Jamie's relationship development was slow but understandable and I wouldn't want it any other way.

This book has a bit of angst, a bit of suspense and danger, with the banter of a loving and loyal family to balance out the heavier emotions. Plus.....who doesn't love a single father romance?

I have read this author many times before and always enjoyed her books. Well, Capturing the Texas Rancher's Heart is one of my favorites and I absolutely can't wait for the next book in this brand new series.

Do I recommend this book? Oh, heck yeah!

While I received an advanced reading copy of Capturing the Texas Rancher's Heart, this is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

This was a wonderful story with good characters. Jamie and Thomas both had issues with trusting love for very different reasons, but their journey finding it together was enjoyable to read.

Thomas is a handsome rancher, a single Dad and a man who gave up on love many years ago. An injury puts him right into the care of Nurse Jamie and she isn’t taking his brutish behavior and he isn’t sure what to do about that. She has a job to do and plans on seeing it through the few weeks she is needed, he never planned on wanting her to stay forever.

Jamie never expected her boss to ask her to be a private duty nurse for Thomas. His behavior is less than inviting and she promised herself a long time ago that no man would make her feel unsafe again. She can tell that deep down he is a good man, but her past is always there reminding her to be careful.

This book has great characters, a good storyline and a bit of romance sneaks in too. I loved their connection and the way Andy, Thomas’s son, was a good part of that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A formulaic romance. A nurse with a difficult past, who has taken a job in the local hospital whose existence is owed to the Rancher's family's patronage. An injured ramcher from the same family and his precocious son, a nearly 7 year old charmer looking for a mama sonce his left when he was 3 mo. old, and a host of other family and friends. It turns put the only nurse.in the hospitwl who has rehab nursing experience to know both the rehab and nursing experience the cowboy needs at home. But she doesn't like the cowboy's attitude. Still, she can handle him, and does so, quite well. His family falls for her, esp. his young son, but will the rancher remain the the lone holdout? Or will he also fall for her?
As a nurse who has worked in a wide variety of settings, I applqud the accuracy of a nurse's role. Physical rehab nurses do indeed learn PT and OT so that the patients can resume as normal life as soon as possible, and to aide the PTs and OTs in the daily work of making the recovery of the patients move faster.
This is the first of 5 books about the Tremayne family.

I liked Jamie a lot she was a broken soul and just looking for a place to belong without being broken even more. Thomas was a bit of a jerk at first and he just seemed like a Mr. know-it-all I am to good for anyone, but his family, pops and Jamie see to help humble him over the whole book. He still had a take charge but he just seem to get better as the pages went on. Now don’t even get me started on Thomas the third he was a pistol and from page one I feel like he totally made the book. His personality just shined off the pages and he was so fun to read about. I really liked Tori as well being the only girl of all boys she just seem to take charge and tooted her own horn I can’t wait to read her story. There is adult content in this book so it may not be suitable for all readers. Overall this book was a fun read and well worth it. I received a complimentary copy of this book. A lovely start to a new series, Capturing the Texas Rancher’s Heart has the friendly, welcoming and neighbourly feel of a small town Romance. Set in the fictional town of Faris in the Texas Hill Country, this sweet story is heartwarming. I loved nurse Jamie Westmoreland with her sass and her competence providing a balance for her compassionate side. Despite a very difficult upbringing, this woman showed interest in those around her, care and compassion. Rancher Thomas Tremayne was also easy to love despite his gruff exterior. It was very clear that here was an honourable man doing his best to raise his six year-old son and run the family ranch with military precision. His gorgeous son Andy comes very close to stealing the show on more than one occasion and *spoiler alert* the proposal at the end of this story is one of the sweetest I have ever read.W

This book is a great beginning to a new series. Jamie is a nurse and she meets Thomas and his adorable young at the hospital when Thomas is brought in for treatment. He can't let a ranching injury keep him down. He has a ranch to run and a son to raise on his own. He is a difficult patient and she is a stubborn nurse. They instantly take a dislike to each other. When her boss asks her to do him a favor and be Thomas's at home nurse she has no choice but to agree. Avery takes an instant liking to Andy, but it takes a while for Thomas to grow on her. For Thomas it is nice to see a woman's influence on his son. The longer she is with them the more Andy wants to keep her. Can Avery and Thomas put their relationship baggage behind them and open their hearts to a second chance at love? Great read. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Nurse Jamie is a no nonsence, get the job done kind of nurse. When Thomas Tremayne ends up under her care in the hospital, she isn't putting up with his complaints. So, when she is assigned to provide him around the clock care at his home once he is released, she will keep up the same determined attitude. Treat the patient and don't get too close.

But when Thomas' young son takes a liking to Nurse Jamie and wants her for his new mom, she might not be able to resist them both.

This was a sweet story of a grumpy cowboy/rancher trying to keep his heart safely behind locked doors and the sweet woman who finds a way, without even trying, to penetrate and heal what was damaged.

I loved this story and the characters in it very much and I look forward to reading more from this series.

Peace for nurse Jamie

Jamie moved to a small town in Texas to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. She also needed to leave her past behind and try to move on. She found a job at a small hospital and worked her way up to head nurse on the surgical ward. Her life was simple and quiet which Jamie was happy with until an unruly cowboy patient came into her life. He was not good at following orders and his rudeness was hard to tolerate. Jumping forward Jamie ends up working as his private nurse on his large family ranch. Just when they have finally become more than friends, Jamie's past comes back to haunt her. This book is fast paced and an enjoyable read if you like modern western romance.

What a sweet read. I absolutely loved Jamie and Thomas. Both of them were still working out problems from their pasts. Thomas was really afraid to let another woman into his life after what happened with his ex-wife. Jamie was trying to hide away from her past. Both were unsure of what to do but the chemistry between them was hot. When you throw Andy, Thomas son the book became so much more. That little boy stole the show away from everyone. Andy knew what he wanted from the very beginning he just needed to convince his dad and Jamie. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.

Debra Holt’s first book, Capturing the Texas Rancher’s Heart, in her newest series, The Tremaynes of Texas, is one of the most emotionally charged stories I’ve read in a very long time. From laughter, to tears, and back to laughter again, Thomas and Jamie’s journey towards their HEA completely owned my heart. With the perfect touch of suspense to keep the story moving along, and culminating with the perfect timing to set the stage for the next stage of the couple’s journey, this author has completely captured the essence of romance.

Debra Holt gives yo a sweet story in Capturing the Texas Rancher's Heart.
The story might start with a visit to the hospital but just could end in a possible romance.
My favorite characters in the story has to be one of the main character's young son Andy and his dog Jasper. This author always gives you a great story. I look forward to seeing what the next book in the series brings to you.

Look at the cover of this book and know you are going to be getting a fabulous Cowboy and his little man wonderful read inside. This is the first book in the Tremaynes of Texas series and we get Thomas the single dad of Andy first. Nurse Jamie takes care of him and while she is taking care of Thomas we get to know all about the entire family. I adore this father and son combo and how they have so many people in their lives that help them and are families even if it is not by blood. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.

So this one captured my heart pretty fast not only was I wanting a HEA for Thomas and Jamie I was wanting little Andy to get his wish for a Mom to come true.
I gave this one five stars even though I must confess when Jamie was in a terrifying situation I had to put the book away and wait to finish reading in the light of day.
I’m looking forward to book two of this series.

I absolutely loved this book. Jamie was such a fun character who had trauma and baggage from her past but built a life despite that just has to learn to love and trust. I loved the verbal sparring between her and Thomas. I really loved how this book created such relatable characters that despite their faults you find yourself rooting for. And who could help but fall in love with Thomas’ sweet little boy.

Ranchers at their sweetest

If your into hard working ranchers with big attitudes, this is for you. They always seem gruff on the outside but inside is usually a heart of gold. On a ranch there's always lots of rules with stiff consequences and that is to keep everyone safe. There's big animals that can do slot of damage. It hard work and requires lots of patience. Loved this story.

Fun Read

This was such a fun read! I loved the banter between Jaime and Thomas as they spent time together and got to know each other. I especially loved the little cowboy that added much to the story. The best part was the surprise twist of intrigue. It had me guessing for a bit. This is a wonderful read that all are sure to enjoy.

The red cardinal looks down

This was a beautiful contemporary ranch romance. He needed a nurse to help him recupe. She was a nurse at the hospital his family supported. The dance family all loved het but nobody loved her more than he and his son. It was very well written and a joy to read. But you will need a few tissues.
