As the relentless approach of a truly gargantuan mothership sparks chaos on Earth, many believe the end times are here.
The unknown beings are more technologically advanced than humanity can even comprehend, let alone match.
Worst of all, observation makes one thing clear: they aren't coming to chat.
United in fear
For the first time since Dan McCarthy's initial contact with aliens a full sixteen years earlier, the whole world is united against an existential threat.
Humanity has its back against the wall like never before, side by side with two friendly races against odds that hardly bear thinking about.
Defiant until the end
But while billions understandably cower in fear, a few stand defiant.
The gauntlet is thrown down. A showdown is coming.
And be it on Earth or in space, the McCarthys will be there...
Don't miss Not Alone: Endgame, the epic culmination of the groundbreaking saga!
Mr Falconer is a talented creator of unusual stories. He seems to have some experience in the advertising field for he goes on at length about sending the proper message to the public. He also repeats himself tirelessly about actions, thoughts, and considerations that have already occurred. I find this distracting as my profession has trained me to listen to every word, and derive meaning. At the same time I've become aware that I must repeat myself in order to communicate important details to others. More than once I've been in the position of saying, but I told you . . ., and the other person saying, but I didn't know that's what you meant. I enjoyed Piper's picking up on various nuances of what she was told, and figuring out a tactic based upon what was left unsaid. I related to that tactic because of my own predilection. This time in the story we are about to meet the engineer. I'm remembering the movie where data meets the Borg queen. The engineer is the race or whatever that created the architects that manipulated the messengers, and installed the pulses that destroyed Kerguelen, and almost destroyed the earth. We go through this process of using the pulse machine to fight the engineer, but that's too dangerous, or maybe not, but it's the last chance, but it won't work, but wait a minute, says Piper, you said it won't work this way, how about that way? In the meantime the engineer is 8 weeks away, but no he speeds up so he's only a week away woops, make that hours away. Then we find out the engineer wants Piper. What a setup. Would you believe Piper saves the world again? Maybe it's Rogue? How about the band of 24? Let's just say it's a cooperative effort where everyone pitches the ball to someone else. Now Mr Falconer makes every effort to close out every inconsistency in his story, but really, they get away with their scheme in the face of the senior person with uplift powers? I'm reminded of "Play it again, Sam" when Woody Allen says, "She bought it." I'd have better believed it if Colby had pulled out his uplift powers and smashed the engineers face in. Anyway, we do a cleanup chapter after the ending is complete so that all the loose ends get put straight, and we get our happy ending.
Life can be really full of surprises, not all of which is just good or just bad. As Dan and company discovered in Endgame by accomplished author Craig A Falconer. But it is indeed bad when that surprise entails a spaceship bigger than the moon and evidence points to the possible end of all life on Earth. Really. And I will need a manicurist now. Endgame is one of those books tending to keep you in nervous suspense almost from the word ",go" and never relents the pressure as an unlikely group of aliens, humans and even kids are called upon to save the world against an invading alien threat , these aliens now dubbed as the Engineers. Enjoy
The McCarthy's have been up against all odds for 16 years. Starting with Dan making contact with the aliens called the Messengers to each new alien life form that comes from that encounter. Dan and Emma have a nearly 16 year old daughter, Piper, who is like no other child before her. They have been hiding her powers to protect her and to let her live a somewhat normal life. Time after time Piper has to use her power that is getting harder and harder to keep hidden. But as the skies darken and the situation seems to be deteriorating, she's called on again. When it comes to saving humanity, Piper is Earth's last, best hope...or is she...???
In the conclusion of this wonderous Not Alone saga, we get the best book by far. The bad news is all the characters, story lines, adventures and more have come to an end. We have immersed ourselves with the writings of Craig A. Falconer for this awesome journey. And as always, he doesn't disappoint his readers. Thanks for the marvelous ride, Craig! You've done it again!
This series just kept getting better and better! Books 8 & 9 are superb. Everything comes together perfectly in this final installment and although I would miss the cast of characters, if this is indeed the final chapter of the series I am very happy with how this ended. A perfect series where the aliens are the backdrop for the real story, which is how humanity would react globally to such an occurrence.
It's the end of the world as we know it... Messengers, Architects, and Engineers - oh my. There's a lot going on in this book. Government upheaval and threats from a new alien danger lead to some very tight interspecies cooperation on 2 planets. This book was a fine addition the Not Alone series.
After a trilogy of trilogys the end has arrived and its full if surprises but ties in everything very well not an easy task with so many various issues raised from each book. Particularly impressed with how things were drawn together whilst still maintaining a personal touch.
A definite page turning series! At times I was anxious to read as fast as possible to find out what happened next. I had to force myself to show down.......though, I am fairly certain I will reread this series to soak in all the details next time around. Thank you, Mr. Falconer for a fun romp!
Unnecessary repetition mounts in this final volume of the trilogy. That might be necessary for someone just beginning this series, but I don't think it's necessary for authors to do so much for readers witless enough to jump into the trilogy here.
Some interesting new twists, but I was really ready for this novel to be over before its end came.
The story and character development over nine books was outstanding. I was never bored reading this series. I recommend it to everyone who likes a unique story.
I LOVED THIS WHOLE THING! I wish the shootout would do some more in this world, like where they go from this point now that the Engineers are out of the picture.
As with the previous books in the series, Endgame was full of suspense, masterfully crafted, and superbly written. Seeing the characters grow, watching them work together, was all-involving. Craig makes it very easy to escape into his world. Origins is next on my list.
What an amazing ending and wrap up to one of the best and longest series I have had the privilege of reading. This last book kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end. It has been an exceptional journey.
I was like a child at Christmas waiting to see if Father Christmas had come I waited up all night on the 25th till tiredness took hold at 23:00 but the first this I did upon a waiting was to open the book I can't wait to see the outcome
