A Seer Among Shifters

Rate this book
I BELONG TO FATE.

The Supernatural Underworld has called to me for longer than I can remember, sending visions as it reaches for me.

Or at least, that’s what I thought was happening.

In reality, I somehow managed to tap into the stream of fate and have been stealing bits and pieces from it throughout my life.

But every time I took from fate, it took from me as well. Over time, it captured my soul. Now it wants my mind and body, too.

The only ones who can protect me are the hellhounds, but their protection doesn’t come cheap.

I have to search the future to find a mate for Serberus, their king. He’ll be lost to the fire within him if I don’t find his fated match.

The problem is, he doesn’t have one.

So if I want to stay alive, seeing the future isn’t enough--I have to learn how to change it.

I have to become an Oracle.

Mythology meets the supernatural world in this explosive new take on hellhounds, seers, and true mates. If you love sexy paranormal romance with action, humor, dangerous men, and sassy women, this is for you!

*A Seer Among Shifters is a full-length new adult read, and ends in a cliffhanger. An Oracle Among Hounds, book 2 in this duology, finishes the story and will be released in April. My Review
--------------------------------------
I loved the story and diversity of characters immediately. Indiana (Indi) Dustin is 5'1", strong-willed, quirky and vibrant. Indi has visions of the future that she must exorcise by painting and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) that has affected her entire life. She lives in isolation (with Marshmallow, her "traitorous parasite" cat). Due to the "frequency and debilitating-nature" of her visions she makes a living painting the visions she has for her customers. The morning of her 22nd birthday and after the lack of her annual birthday vision a knock on her door starts her down a path she has been waiting for.

Serberus, "the Underworld's apex predator", is a Hellhound and the Shifter King of the Supernatural Underworld. He is thousands of years old and fighting a losing battle without his "match".

I loved seeing Indi stand up to these powerful people and hold her own. She makes a deal to help them find their match. Along the way she also finds friendship, strength and also a purpose. Serberus and India's relationship is sweet and thankfully not insta-love. They grew so much together, both giving and receiving what they needed. I am looking forward to the next book.

--------------------------------------
A couple of lines I loved...

'Don't piss off hellhounds and unicorns; got it.'

'He would've been scary if I didn't find him so adorable.'

--------------------------------------

Whirlwind

I had the time of my life writing this book! It was an emotional whirlwind for me and also incredibly fun at the same time. Indie and Serberus have a connection I absolutely adore, and I hope you love them as much as I do 💕

A wonderful new world

Let me start by saying I received an ARC of this book. I reread it in KU as well. I honestly hadn't heard of Lola Glass until I read another book she had written. I am amazed by her world building. The details that she has put in this book made the world and characters come alive. I could easily visualize everything going on.

Now let's talk characters. The FMC wasn't wishy-washy, she didn't suddenly go from bad *** to damsel in distress, she stayed consistent throughout the book. She was strong and determined. Overall, I felt she was true to herself.

The main male character was amazing. Lola made his sadness and resolve to accept his future predicament cut deep. You could understand how the FMC decided to change it.

I am waiting expectantly for the next book and have put Lola Glass on the top of authors to follow. Take the time and read this book, because if you don't I guarantee that you will regret it.

3.5 ⭐

I really didn't like this book at first. Indie has SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) and some if her "behaviors" just didn't match up with the disorder for me. Instead, I think her "behaviors" were meant to keep her practically nude all the time, and with a trendy hairstyle. I have SPD, and I too struggle with hair on my neck, and as someone with that issue, I can tell you that loose braids that fall down the side of my neck would never work. Its trendy, but doesn't match with the disorder.

Also, the body suits are skin tight...sometimes Indie wears spaghetti strap ones (which are godawful in my own SPD experience, but sometimes she wears open neck, and other times long sleeve with a high neck, and its just not practical. I also find the whole body suit thing ridiculously triggering for me all over the body. I get her not liking loose clothing, but there are options for SPD suffers, that don't include ridiculous actions like walking around in the freezing cold with no socks, shoes or even leggings.

Also, have you tried walking in bare feet? Your feet touch everything and you get triggered left and right! I can hardly ever go barefoot for very long at all. Yet Indie goes barefoot in the freezing castle, and in the frozen landscapes with melting snow and water, and other things squishing between her toes. She never touches any bottoms other than shortie shorts even though she is freezing all the time UGH! Its just dumb.

It is literally made so that the girl is half naked with nipples on salute all the time in order to increase the blue ball situation.

Also, this book takes blue balls to a whole new level. I think it was written by a female masochist that just likes to see men suffer. Honestly, its that bad. The male lead is a thousand year old Virgin, and Indie humps him and gets orgasms from him left and right, but when he can finally have sex Indie is like, " umm yea, I'm not ready, but you can totally make me orgasm more, and I still want to hump you." 🙄 wtf is that!

There is a lot that just doesn't add up here, but besides all that, it was a good enough story that I do want to see what happens with Fate and the whole oracle thing.

Oh wow!! I adored this book! I was definitely excited for more from Lola Glass after the Wolfsbane series, and I was definitely not disappointed! I got sucked in quickly and then couldn't put it down.
Lola is the queen of strong-willed, sassy heroines and I'm very here for it.
Indi, our MC, has both Sensory Processing Disorder and visions of the future. She's stuck being mostly a hermit with the way her visions debilitate her. She sees everyone's future but her own, except for once a year on her birthday. Which is how she knows two men will show up someday to take her to another world. The two men, who turn out to be Hellhound shifters, break down her apartment door and take her to the underworld. There she finds out things aren't as amazing as she hoped, but being a seer makes her valuable to the shifters. Indi has the chance to save the shifter king Serberus by finding his mate. But fate has other plans, and she ends up tying her future to his.
I really loved the world-building in this one. We get a really cool version of the Underworld and all the races that live there. I loved all the interesting types of shifters and other creatures. I also loved the friendship with Indi and Tala. Lola writes female friendships so well, and I love that about her books! The romance is also great. Just like in Wolfsbane, we get to see the relationship develop. No insta-love her, which I like. I'm very excited to see where things go in the next books, and I definitely recommend picking this one up!!

Lola does it again! Lola is such a great writer. Im so glad I’ve found her and her books! In a normal world, fantasy is not my thing at all. So for being a non-fantasy lover, I had to push myself into this world that was created. Thats my fault not hers. Her writing is just as amazing in this book, as it was in her others. The author created this whole new world with all new characters and I loved all the characters in this story too. Im very invested in the main characters relationship just like I was in her last series. I love how Lola builds the relationships to be lasting relationships instead of a easy fairytale romance. Lets not fail to mention… the STEAMINESS! I will continue to read Lola Glass’ books EVEN when they push me out of my comfort zone.

Good Start

I chose to give this book a rating of a five because it has a good storyline. It starts off slow in the beginning as she is developing the characters background. I love that she used African Americans are major characters in her books. I enjoyed how she gave her characters more unique identities than the ones you see in other books in the same genre. I understand where she is going with the storyline and I can’t wait until the second one comes out. To give any more information about the book would be to tell the story line which I don’t want to give away.

Enjoyable and Different . . .

This story had a nice unique feel to it, the world-building handled well. The main characters, Serberus and Indi, are enjoyable to get to know through their dialog and interaction. It also makes the development of the relationship a natural expectation as they get comfortable with each other. Their personalities really come out in the story. I am looking forward to the next book already! This one was a great start to pull me in!

I loved this work. The twists, the turns, the fantastic take on shifter lore. I enjoyed this work so much that it was impossible to put down. The characters were unique and added taste and variety to the cast. The growth of the characters was great and the storyline was outstanding. I enjoy Lola Glass’s works and always find them hard to put down.

I give this a five out of five stars.

Indi is a Seer, she has had visions of people's futures her entire life and the exact same vision of her own future, on her birthday. Until one birthday the vision doesn't come, it comes true instead. Indi finds herself in the underworld, surrounded by Shifters, with a job to do, finding everyones match. But the clock is ticking on her life, until she is taken over by fate.

Honestly, I did not enjoy this story. I don't think I can't write a cohesive review, so here are the reasons why.
1. Indi just willingly left her home with 3 random men
2. I can't stand territorial men, and this was full of them. Like no, let your girlfriend have guy friends ffs 🙄
3. The characters felt to similar to Lola's debate series, but given different names and put in a different setting.

But there was some good qualities too, Fate slowly overtaking Indi's body was fascinating. And I enjoyed seeing the different animals that Shifters turned into. However I don't think I will continue with this duology.

Loved this new world!💕 Serb and Indi are a power couple and I enjoy the constant back and forth. The relationship building in this story is amazing. I also really liked the best friend relationship between the girls. Can't wait for the next book, I also think more Hellhounds should be in stories!
I received a ARC copy and am leaving a review by choice. I also bought a copy for myself😉

So good

This shifter book is like a breath of fresh air! It’s not like every other book you have ever read about shifters. The relationships we are established have a new twist and spin that isn’t the same as any Fated mate series we have seen in the past. I look forward to seeing how our girl outsmarts fate and gets her HEA with the shifter king!

Another amazing world creation from Lola! One of my favourite things in this was probably the way the unicorns were portrayed and the different sections and species in the underworld.

Our MC, Indi, was funny and very headstrong, even when I thought she should take a little more time to think her abrupt decisions through. Stressssssful!

The romance was hot and steamy. I adored the idea of, I guess, friends to lovers being the closest description, and I really enjoyed the banter and friendships made, and especially Tala as a character!

The story felt a little a little rushed at times and I would’ve like events to be built upon a little more, perhaps more of a link between events as a few didn’t seem to connect together as well as I would’ve hoped, but I’m super excited to read the final book in Indi and Serb’s story!

I am in love. Finally, a book where the hottie wanting for his mate. He stays a virgin for years for her, then he waits longer for her to be ready. Its a slow burn. It was hot and spicy with out being over the top. i loved the characters staying who they were while still being what their mate needed.

I’m giving this book 3.5 stars.
I adored the imagery of this book and the twist on the Underworld. The shifter creatures,
particularly the hellhounds and unicorns, were fun and interesting to read about. Indi may not be a fighter, but she is a character that loves love, and will do anything in her power to protect the lives and happiness of others. The romance between her and Serb was quite sweet, with a lot of focus put on trust and friendship. I really like those two together.
I hope in the next book that more characters’ stories will be explored, as it wasn’t as easy to connect with them as I’d have liked it be. Interested in finding out out more about the magic in the Underworld, and the cliffhanger at the end!

Overall I’m giving this book a 3.5 stars I really enjoyed it and the characters, the romance and the world, it just didn’t hook me quite as much as this off as original trilogy yet. Our main character has this softer personality yet is extremely stubborn which is a nice combination which I can totally relate to. For me the secondary characters didn’t quite take on as much as a personality as I would’ve liked. There were also things about the main characters conditions/magic which I need a bit more exploration of. Love the romance in this one and it wasn’t a straightforward fated mates scenario, and I’m excited to see more of the underworld and it’s seemingly increasingly complicated politics.

Thank you for a early copy of this book super excited to continue on with the series as we have yet another cliffhanger, which I should’ve expected with Lola’s books!

I kind of went up and down with liking this one. I really liked Indie a lot. She often did things that were unexpected and I liked that. Serb was kind of as expected. I like him though. Interesting story line.
It has a cliffhanger but not a horrible one. All in all, pretty good.

Absolutely amazing, this book has blown my mind, from the beginning: by setting the world and characters; to the slow building of the plot; and finally: how the spark of the romantic attraction suddenly blows and consumes you.

I didn't know what to expect of this new book but it surpassed my expectations by a mile and now I'm left craving the sequel.

One of Glass's writing strengths lies in creating strong-willed heroines with issues that seemingly keep them from finding happiness and love. This novel's main character, Indi, not only suffers from sensory processing disorder, but strong sensory input also triggers staggering visions, so she has lived in isolation since childhood. When an annual vision becomes real, Indi jumps at the chance to travel to another world where she might have a new, more exciting life. Led there by some gruff, potentially dangerous Hellhound shifters, Indi discovers a variety of new species, and the sad, angry King who rules them all. One she has seen for years in her visions. Indi later learns she might have the chance to save King Serberus from a cruel fate by tying her fate to his own, and she doesn't hesitate, though it sets off a chain of events that could lead to her own destruction.

I hadn't thought that Lola Glass would be able to make me love another set of characters as much as I did Henly and Roman and their pack from the Wolfsbane series, but I became wholly invested in Indi and Serb's story. Not only was their romance alternately sweet and scalding, but Glass also excels at writing strong female friendships and I found Indi and Tala's friendship to be both sweet and devoted. This new vision of the Underworld was fascinating and inventive. The dynamics between rival groups were interesting and hopefully they will be fleshed out even more in the coming books.

This was great. I loved how Indi knew nothing about where the hellhounds were taking her, and didn’t care. She was already packed, and just wanted to go live her life somewhere she could be normal. This story completely sucked me in, and I can’t wait for the next one.

Very Interesting

Serb was destined to be alone and then lose himself to madness. Indi was a loner by both choice and force due to her ability to see the future. The only thing that kept her going was the vision she got annually tortellini of her going to another world.
When she finally makes it to the underworld, she is exposed to an entirely different way of life, which she wasn't too keen on following. So because of this, she decides to take "fate" into her own hands and forge her own destiny. A destiny that just so happened to link her to Serb in an effort to save him.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between them, both before and after they became a match. The desire to be with each other as well as keep each other safe was strong. This leads Indi to try and get rid of fate so she can free both Serb and herself. While she gained freedom, she faced a new problem.
She is dying and has been kidnapped by the unicorns who say they have a way to save her. Will their plan work? Will anything change the current dynamic between Serb and Indi?
I can't wait to see how things play out in the next book!

Lola did it again, the wrote a novel that topped all her previous and left me with a new favorite.

I LOVED these two. This novel package a punch. It was addicting and filled with so many twists that you don't see coming. The main characters have their own internal battles to fight and watching them overcome their problems and find each other is a wild ride.

And THAT ENDING. The ending of this book left me ON MY TOES. Dying for the next read. Lola has a way of writing her characters on to your heart and leaving you completely dying for more words about them.

This book was exhilarating and a new vision of a genre that you thought had done it all. It took a plot I thought I had read a million times and turned it on its toes. I am addicted.

good

**WARNING! Cliffhanger!**
This unusual take on the paranormal world, features a heroine with a sensory processing disorder, and a debilitating ability to perceive the future.
Taken into the Underworld (otherworld), where all paranormals end up, she tricks her way into staying with the hellhounds. Bound to help their king find his fated mate, she learns more about her ability, and Fate itself, than she ever bargained for.

This was a good book, with an unusual heroine. Her disabilities have held her back, but haven’t prevented her from being strong in her own way.
While it is a romance, a slow burn one, the romance isn’t quite the usual one either, and again, it makes for an interesting book.
The characters are intriguing, making for people you wish to know a lot more about, and the world building is compelling.

This enthralling book kept me engaged and definitely made me want more.
Recommended for those who enjoy urban fantasy.

Another excellent start to a new series from Lola Glass.

I hadn’t read a single word of the synopsis before diving into this book because it is by a Lola and I know the greatness she is capable of so it took me a second to work out exactly what I was reading about.

When it dropped that they were hell hounds I lost it! I love seeing more obscure supernatural elements in my fantasy and I was instantly invested in all this book had to offer. I loved the lore Glass created regarding the hounds and other shifters. It was unique and just plain awesome.

Glads has a real talent for creating strong and powerful female protagonists and Indi is no different. She has had a difficult life and has made the best of the situation. I loved how determined she is to succeed and how caring and kind she is for all around her, even complete strangers!

So much happened in this novel I can’t believe that there are sequels! I am so excited to dive into the next book now! Love love loved it!

This book was very well written. A different take on mythology and supernatural stories that was intriguing and eye opening. The main character used her intelligence and wit to defeat challenges without losing her morals and heart. Definitely a leading lady I can get behind! Absolutely loved her friendship with Tala and I think it made me love the book more. Hellhounds and unicorns storyline unique and exciting. The love story I feel was pretty well developed it wasn’t just instant love or anything he had to earn it. I loved how he had to earn his brand! Great job can’t wait to read the next one!

I loved this book! The worlds it paints, the characters with their flaws and strengths and Indi. What an amazing person she is, having gone through so much in her life, without truly going through it. As a seer, an oracle she has lived a thousand lives and deaths and has the mental fortitude and compassion to still want to reach out and give others peace, solace and resolution. She is the strongest character I’ve ever read and continues to sacrifice and place herself in the line of fire. She reminds me of the mother in us all and the lengths we go to, to ensure our babies live long happy lives. Cannot wait to continue her story.

This is a fast-paced story built in a high fantasy world. We get the rules of the world and its magic bit by bit so it's something clear but not overwhelming. Great main characters and a couple of secondary characters that participate in the overall plot without being "just tools". The plot presentation and development is very well done. Congratulations Lola, you definitely did it again! I don't usually love high fantasy stories but this one got me HOOKED and I couldn't put it down! It's part of a duology so we end with a big cliffhanger. Of course, I'm diving right into the second book to see how everything unravels.
