2 I didn't like it Stars



Okay here is the deal... I just all around didn't like this book! I have read and liked plenty of Clean romances(meaning no sex) but I have never read a Amish romance. I thought I would give this book a try. Now I wish I hadn't. Right out the gate all the Amish language was annoying me. I had to try and figure out what each thing meant. Gott, Haus, Schweschder, Denke, Jah, Grossdaddi, Nee, Boppli, Vadder, Familye, Bruder, Wunderbaar, Fraa, Kinner, Gut, Dat, Mamm, Bu, Englischer, Mudder, Kaffe, Just to name a few. And of course there was no word key so my lazy butt had to look up all these words on google.



On top of that I knew going into this book it would be a slow burn and most likely clean but there was no romance at all. Just Anita telling her brother over and over that she doesn't want a husband because her husband just died. Simon and Anita maybe spend like 2% of the book together and the rest of the book is about Anita living with her jerk of a brother Amos. Man did I hate Amos. He was a bully jerk who was rude to his brother n law, rude to his wife and rude to his sister. He just made me want to rip my hair out. I felt bad for anyone that had to be around Amos! The book skipped around a lot and was very superficial. There was no meat to the hero, heroine, or the plot. Overall I was just bored and annoyed. So yet just not my cuppa!

This is the first of the series about Amish widows. Anita’s husband Joshua was killed in a buggy accident one day after she found out she was pregnant. They had been married for eight years. Anita leaves her community and travels to live with her brother and his wife and child. This is where Anita lived when she grew up and many other people in the community are familiar with Anita. Simon lives next door and immediately the reader feels that they will get together. Anita’s brother Amos has other ideas and brings several men to the house to meet his sister. It is a fun book I am sure you will enjoy it.

This book was just okay for me.

I was initially interested in it to see how the Amish community would handle a single, pregnant woman returning to her home community following the death of her husband. The first half of the book I appreciated: it gave a true glimpse of her dealing with her grief, of her family's new position having her living with them and her brother's struggle to accept her.

But after that part the book felt rushed. The pregnancy flew by to the point where a chapter literally begins with "one year later" and picks up from there. I would have like to read about how she adjusted to being a new mom who is faced with handling everything on her own. I would have liked to read more about how she coped with not having her husband there with her as their son did all of his "firsts."

Not bad...just not what I was hoping for.

This is the first time I've read a Amish Book or read anything written by Samantha Price and I will say the writing was good, just not a book I would normally read but it was free and my cousin recommended I try one. But if you like this type of story then I would say you should read it.

Pregnant

Anita is new!y widowed. She returns to her old home to live with her domineering brother and his family. Her brother s determined to find her a husband eve if Anita is not interested in marriage. This was a good Amish story as it was not too short as are many Amish books.The author developed the characters giving them distinct personalities.

each seem to be stand-alone ones

I enjoyed this book didn't like the brother thought he was a bully in that he thought his was & views was right but he got better wouldn't say great

I think they way people was saying Anita should marry again so so after the death of her husband how can people regardless if they are Amish or not say this but as my husband is always saying when we watching a film it only a story lol

I will read more in this series in the future as it stand-alone books i dont need to read one after the other to find out what is going on so can dip in & out as i feel like it

Anita was the only Amish woman on the greyhound bus. But it wasn’t her first trip. Anita’s husband Joshua had died and Anita was a widow and pregnant due for her baby in four months. Joshua and Anita had tried to get pregnant for eight years then it finally happened but tragically the day after Anita and Joshua had found out they were going to be parents he was dead. Anita had lived alone on her and Joshua’s home for three months Then Anita’s younger brother Amos insisted she move back and live with him and his family. Amos and his wife Hannah had two sons Ben was three and Sam was two. Anita’s brother expected her to help Hannah with the boys but also wanted to marry her off as quick as possible. But Hannah wants to taker her time to grieve and recover in her own way and time. Fran was the Bishop’s wife ands also wanted to see ANita married quickly. Anita came in to dinner with Amos and Hannah and Hannah’s brother Simon was there. Simon was six years younger then Anita and she was clearly pregnant that Anita was the one for him. Although the community feels Simon should marry one of the pretty younger women of their faith as there were a lot of these young women who would gladly marry Simon.
I had mixed feelings about this book but I did like this book. It was a quick easy read. I would have liked more information on the Amish way of life. I didn't really like Amos he almost seemed uncaring about what the women in his life wanted and needed. Like why didn’t he leave Anita in Ohio if he only brought him to PA to help Hannah then to hurry her into marrying again even before their child was born instead of being a loving brother and understand all she was going through and give her time she is in the later part of her pregnancy but he wants Anita to help Hannah with two young boys. I just didn’t like him Amish were suppose to kind and loving to family members. I would have liked more Anita/ Simon time also. This was also a bit predictable. I did really Anita and I liked Anita and Simon together. I also liked Hannah. Amos just kinda took away from this story as far as I am concerned. So there was some things I liked about this book and some things not so much.

This book is the first in the series about Amish widows. Anita Graber has returned to Lancaster County after the death of her husband. Pregnant with her first child Anita returns home to live with her brother and his family. She is surprised to learn that everyone in the community expects her to remarry. She finds a supportive friend in her sister-in-law’s brother. Simon is several years younger than Anita. He is suportive of Anita’s choices. This seems to be the reason the community do not consider him an appropriate match.

The Amish are not a group usually found in romance stories so I couldn’t resist reading this book. I found Anita to be a strong independent woman, which I did not expect of an Amish woman but was pleased to discover. Her main motivation is to live her life how she wants. She will not be pushed to marry again purely because she is pregnant. She is financially stable and can support herself and her child.

Simon is a well-respected member of his community, he runs his own business and cares for his family. The only reason he is not a choice is his age. He truly cares for Anita and does not want to push her to move on. He respects her need to mourn her husband and learn to adjust to living as a single mother.

I found myself disgusted by the behaviour of Anita’s brother. He was what I expected of an Amish male. He sees himself as the leader of the family. He dictates how the women will live their lives regardless of their wishes. He does redeem himself somewhat by allowing his wife to work after much persuasion.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a quick read and a sweet romance.

Anita is returning home to live with her brother, Amos, and his family in Lancaster County. She has just lost her husband in a tragic buggy accident and she is expecting her first child. Saddened at her loss, she is taken by surprise to discover that everyone in her brother’s community has thought about matching her up with another husband. Amongst the Amish, that is not uncommon. But Anita loved her husband and, although she understands that he is now in a better place, she mourns her loss. In short, she’s not ready to find another husband. And, she’s quite angered by her brother’s insistence and interference.

Samantha Price’s novel, “Amish Widow’s Hope: Expectant Amish Widows Book 1”, is a tender story about love, loss and the strong sense of community that makes the Amish so special. In a community that works together and helps each other out, it is a pleasant relief to find an independent woman, one who’s not afraid to speak her mind and stand up for herself. The character of Anita is a strong woman; her grief is real and the reader can certainly feel compassion for her. As the plot develops, the reader will feel Anita’s outrage at having her life arranged for her. The story is filled with an interesting collage of characters that help develop the plot. It is difficult to determine who is the antagonist when everyone seems so good and caring. Amos does come across as a bit of a brute earlier in the novel, only to cave in under pressure from his wife and his sister. A gentle and clean read.

This is a short sweet Amish read. The storyline was good and interesting to read about the Amish way of life where women are still encouraged to be told by the men in the family what they should do and that their lives should be placed in the men's hands, no matter the ages of both the women and men and that their opinions are still below that of the men.

It seems that even though Anita was married for over six years and living far away, her brother who was much younger than her, believed that when she lost her husband Joshua and came back home to live to give herself and unborn child a new start, that it was his job to marry her off to anyone who would have her, anyone except Simon, Amos's brother-in-law and his very good friend and also his wife's brother.

Amos made it known in no uncertain terms that because Simon was younger than Anita, that she had no right to develop feelings for Simon and vice versa but it was ok to marry her of to a man many years older.

Finally Anita stood her ground and after her son Daniel was born, she made it quite clear that she was able to live her life without the help of a new husband but Simon had very different plans for Anita and Daniel.

This was my first Amish romance. I didn’t expect any steamy scenes or witty banter, considering the setting and customs of the Amish, so I wasn’t disappointed in that regard. The plot was pretty straightforward- A pregnant Amish widow, Anita, returns to her hometown to live with her brother and his wife. The brother tries to marry her off to every single Tom, Dick, and Harry in their town which has like one woman for every 3-4 men. Apparently, even a pregnant woman is a catch.

The author contrasts the narrow-minded, traditional views of Anita’s brother,Amos, with those of his brother-in-law and neighbor, Simon, whom Amos completely dismisses as a potential suitor for his sister because he’s younger than her. Anywho, after insisting she doesn’t want another husband for most of the book, Anita’s heart eventually softens to Simon.

If you’re not familiar with Amish words, some of the dialogue might throw you off while reading. Overall, this is a short, sweet read.

A quick, easy, light read. I finished it in only a few hours. Just what I needed after a month long drawn out book. I enjoyed reading about a little Amish culture although the book is more about a nice family story and less about the culture. Parts of the story definitely remind the reader the book is set in Amish country, like buggy rides and riding hats, single men being clean shaven while married men have beards, etc., however I would have like the author to add more Amish details.

After losing her husband and being pregnant, Anita returns home to live with her brother and his family. Her brother Amos is determined to find Anita a husband to take care of her. While she is determined to grieve and recover on her own terms.

Delightful page-turner with lots of family love, and all the challenges that go along with family life, and promises of a new beginning, especially for the grieving widow Anita Garber.
When the story begins we journey with her from the home she made with her deceased husband to her brother’s home in the Lancaster PA area. Her brother Amos seems rather harsh, and abrupt with his family, and seems his desire is to see his recently widowed sister married.
I had mixed vibes with Amos, but he does seem to have his sister’s welfare as his primary concern.
This is one fast read, and when it was over I had a sense of loss, I wanted to stay with these new found friends!

This is my first amaranths Price story, her writing is clean and wholesome, with more than a dash of sweetness. I look forward to finding more from her. This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I thought the story was good with Anita a pregnant woman whose husband died 7 years ago. She moves to her brother's house and everyone was telling her she needs to get married again. She doesn’t care for all the ones her brother picks but is interested in Simon, the friend next door. They start out just as friends but their feelings grow. According to Anita’s brother, he’s too young for her. But the ending is good. There are several reasons why I like this book. The book was very easy to read, not too long, had good characters, no sex, no bad words, and a little bit of the Amish traditions which has always interested me. I will be reading more of her books.

This was a short read. I have read a lot of other Amish stories, that I liked better than this one.

Isha and Ben decide to come back home, after several years away in the English community, when they plan to get married. They think the Amish community is a better place to raise a family. Ben likes to ride his motorcycle fast, and takes one last ride, before turning the motorcycle over to the man who was buying it. Ben is killed in the motorcycle ride. The rest of the book is about Isha learning to fit back into the Amish community, and to build a life for herself, and her unexpected baby.

Amos is a bit too controlling, to the point of trying to find her a suitable husband, though she insists she is not ready to move on so quickly. He is not happy when she renews a friendship with her sister-in-law's younger brother, thinking him too young. Time and a new baby in the house changes many things, including Amos' attitude.

This is an endearing story of love and grief, and the tight knit community of the Amish.
I would recommend this book, even though it's a short read, something to make you feel good!

Worth reading

It was a pleasure to read this beautiful clean story. Anita was devastated when her husband passed away. Discovering she was carrying his child helped to keep her grounded during this difficult time. What would the future hold for her? Her bossy brother thought he knew what was best for her. Follow her story and you will see that she was a strong woman who would make her own decisions regardless of what others thought. My only complaint was that the ending was too abrupt. Read and enjoy!

While she appreciates living with her brother she finds herself extremely upset with him when he tries to get her to marry again before the birth of her child. Things are testy since Amos wants her to remarry right away & he will pick out her new yaad since " he knows what us best for her." A lovely story about second chances at love.

Sweet.

This is a sweet story of loss and redemption. A young mother to be is widowed an pompous older brother, a kind young man who needs someone to love. If all books were written with love then all books would be excellent. Sorry that's not the case. Did enjoy this light love story...just dealt with life and how important God is in it.

Anita's Hope

After her husband died, Anita returned to live with her brother and sister-in-law. They thought Simon was too young for her and tried to push other men at her for a second husband. All Anita wanted was to be left alone to grieve and grow her baby. Simon wanted to be her husband.

Exceptional

I am not good at reviews…I just know that this was an exceptional read and I really enjoyed it. Loved the characters Anita and Simon, also Hannah. A young woman whose husband was taken way too soon and she was pregnant and expecting their first child. Loved how strong Anita was and didn’t allow others to tell her what she needed to do.

This is a pleasant Amish romance set in Lancaster Pennsylvania. I enjoyed seeing the scripture verses at the top of each chapter heading, though I couldn’t figure out how some of them were connected to the storyline. One of gods gifts is that each of us has a different way of thinking about or looking at something.

Very nice story of family & how they stay together & support one another. Innuendos of life away from family with husband is very different from how family was when growing up. Wonderful to see an Amish woman willing & able to stand firm on her desires.
