Can he persuade her to see him as something more than just her best friend?
Allie Carmichael is dating the wrong kind of man. To help Allie out of her dating rut, Allie’s sister, Cassie, challenges her to date 26 new men, all that have 26 different careers—one for every letter of the alphabet.
When Eric’s neighbor, Allie, asks him for help with her new dating challenge, he’s reluctant to get involved. Mostly because he’d really like Allie to fall in love with him. She’s determined to finish out her dating challenge, but he’s a veterinarian. And V is at the end of the alphabet.
Can Eric persuade Allie to abandon the list and see him as something more than just her best friend?
A cute novella to kick off a new series, which I can't wait to read. I'm so excited about it I already pre-ordered the first book A is for Author.
Allie is an attorney who seems to be in a dating rut, so her sister challenges her to go on 25 dates, but each date has to be with a guy with a different job. Since she's already dated quite a few attorneys she can start with the letter "B". Allie's next-door neighbor Eric wants to move out of the friend zone, and ask Allie on a date, but he's a veterinarian which is WAY down the alphabet. Can Eric take the chance of waiting that long? What if Allie meets a great guy before she gets to the letter "V"?
I really liked this story and think the premise is great for a series. I liked the main characters and can totally understand Allie's fear of dogs, but liked how Eric helped her get past her fear. I liked Eric and thought his plan of picking out her dates was funny, but that's probably because it wasn't happening to me.
Allie is an attorney who appears to be stuck in a dating rut, so her sister challenged her to go on 25 dates, following the alphabet as career jobs and since he is a veterinarian, which is way down the alphabet, Allie's next-door neighbor Eric wants to break out of the friend zone and ask Allie out on a date.
I enjoyed this brief narrative and wouldn't have objected if it had been a little bit longer. Its perfect to read when you only have a bit of time.
Cute! I thought this was a fun short story, I wouldn’t have minded if it were a bit longer. I guess this is kind of a prequel to a new series, which I look forward to reading. Fun story, premise and characters.
This story was soooo cute!! I loved the characters & thoroughly enjoyed the story! It was a very nice quick read and I loved that it was dual pov! 4.5/5⭐️
This is a Novella length story to introduce a new series by Brenna Jacobs. I have seen 3 different covers for this book and was confused about where this fit in the series....I am pretty sure it is the first in a new series. It was short and sweet and cute. Nothing really grabbed me. I read A is for Author and loved it so was disappointed in this a bit. Maybe she just isn't a short story author. This is chaste with no religion, no swearing. Just a nice contemporary romance.
Short, cute story, perfect to read when you only have a bit of time. Good characterization and premise, and a nice intro to the series. Looking forward to more.
A great story with a fun premise! This is the first book I've read by the author, and I enjoyed the writing style and the voice she gave her characters. I loved the details and mannerisms like Allie being scared of dogs, and the way the author showed the easy friendship between them. Looking forward to reading more!
It’s no secret that contemporary romance is my very favorite category to read. I love a well done one. And this is just that!
I loved Allie. Her methodological ways made me laugh. She uses the ABC’s to get to sleep when she can’t sleep. And she keeps going where she was if she fell asleep in the middle. So when her brother-in-law, John, dares her to go on dates starting with A and going to Z, I knew it was going to be good. The catch is she’s dating by profession. How hard could it be to find 26 different guys with professions starting with letters from A to Z? If you’ve got Eric setting you up, it’s super hard. I had to laugh at all of the dates he found for Allie.
The reader also gets to see things through Eric’s eyes. He’s a great guy. And he knows that he doesn’t want to wait until letter V for veterinarian to get his turn to date Allie. I loved the way Eric was a great guy who loved animals.
This one is a novella, it’s not long. It was easily read in an afternoon. I’m really excited that there are going to be more of these by this author. I loved this one and can’t wait for more!
A sweet, fluffy and uplifting novella which serves as an intro to a book series. Recommended if you need some cheering up. I liked the characters a lot and will be reading the next installments. It looks like I have discovered yet another good, engaging writer.
But having friends and setting up his friends with the woman he was maybe, possibly already in love with were two different things.
She’d blamed her dating list, and her need to finish the entire alphabet, but the list didn’t have anything to do with why she’d run away. She ran because kissing Eric felt like finding her forever. And that was terrifying.
This was an okay read. I didn’t really like the main female character, Allie. It’s not just that she doesn't like dogs, there’s just something that I didn’t like about Allie. I was looking forward to reading about the different dates, but the dates weren’t really interesting. I just kept reading to see how Eric got his woman. 3 stars.
this was a quick read and cute story. perfect for a reading slump to pull you out of it. it’s a good concept just was really quick so i feel like it can’t earn more than 3 stars.
Allie and Eric have been next door neighbors for the past two years. Both are 29 years old and have known each other since college. Allie is an introverted, lonely prosecuting attorney, and Eric is an extremely extroverted veterinarian. There are two main romantic conflicts, besides the typical one of, "What if we become romantic, and it doesn't work out, and I lose my wonderful friend?" Allie has something of a phobia about dogs, because when she and her sister were very small, a large puppy bit her sister. Eric has two dogs, a large, well trained, very mellow mutt, and a small, hyper, terrier mix. Secondly, because Eric dated a close friend of Allie for many years, they fell into the friend zone early on, and she's never thought of him as anything but a friend for the past 10 years.
The inciting incident for this romance story is when Allie's brother-in-law, who was her childhood BFF, bets Allie that she can get out of her non-dating rut by dating 26 different men, who each has a different career, based on the letters of the alphabet. For example, A is for attorney, which she can skip, because that's all she's been dating. B is for banker. C is for chef, and so on. He tells her she should get Eric to help her find suitable men to date, because Eric knows everybody in their town. There is no real description of the town, but the implication is that it is a small town.
Two things spark Allie and Eric to start looking at each other as something besides platonic friends. For Eric, it is realizing that he doesn't want Allie to date anyone but himself. For Allie, it is her sister's delighted declaration that she is positive that Eric likes Allie in a non-platonic way, when he seems to be purposely picking men for her to date whom it is obvious Allie won't like.
Kudos to this author for writing a "friends to lovers" plot with additional romantic conflicts that keep the protagonists apart besides the cliche fear of losing their friendship, if an attempt to upgrade themselves to romantic partners tanks. I also appreciated the fact that this romantic comedy does not resort to slapstick, and it doesn't slide into sloppy melodrama.
All in all, this is a fun, quick read. It will definitely please this author's main audience of Hallmark-loving readers, who prefer nothing more sensual than a few, sweet kisses.
I love the way Eric and Allie are. They are just perfect together. Eric is so cute and sexy😍. I loved everything! From his funny side to his sensitive one.
Their chemistry was 👌🏻 and that kiss!!! 🔥 I just couldn't! Everything was so awesome in the plot. Lol the dates, Eric and Allie's relationship, the dogs🐶!!!
Allie did have some fear issues towards dogs. She also had OCD tendencies that you get to understand more, once she gets more comfortable with those around her. I totally loved how Eric encouraged her to lose her fear💞. He was just so cute with her, respected her boundaries but also went for what he wanted.
I just couldn't get enough of them! I wanted the story length to be bigger haha but it was really good.

This is a quick and easy read. It has a feel to it, and is just a very lighthearted read. Perfect as a filler between books, and a great introduction to this series!
