I was invited to help out at a recent fair for incoming students as a palm reader. I had never even passively glanced at palm reading as an interest, and I told them this. They responded that it was a just-for-fun kind of thing, and as long as I could remember info about the three major lines, I'd be as trained as I'd need to be for the fair. Nothing serious. "I'm a tarot reader," I said. They said, "Do both!" So I figured, why the heck not? It could be fun, and maybe I could do at Halloween parties in future. Hence, I began looking into it.

I first tried a tiny for-beginners book (literally 2 inches by 1 inch), but it didn't really provide enough for learners, but rather was the kind of thing you reference in an emergency if you forget everything while you're in the middle of a reading for a "customer." So I decided to go with my favorite author of 'intro for beginners' spirituality books: Mari Silva.

I was richly rewarded.

I still don't take palm reading seriously. Let me get that out right now. However...

I do take it seriously as a discipline that at least deserves my respect as a belief system for some portion of the world's population. It does not deserve somebody winging it or even worse, making stuff up. After all, a lot of people don't take tarot seriously but can still manage being respectful about it.

While this book was great with the basics (as promised), I found myself still wanting to learn a bit more about one or two of the minor lines. The only minor lines she included were the marriage line, and the fate (read: luck) line, which I knew the kids would find fun. But no luck with other very noticeable "minor lines" in this book. I mention that as an example of how the depth of content really is for beginners. That said, it also covers other categories, including the shape of the hand, the lengths of the palm and fingers, the raised pads on our hands (like the beans on your kitty's paw -- yes, we humans have them too), skin and nails, and texture of the hands. And it's for beginners in each one of those categories.

Basically suitable for audiobook, but I only recommend this format if you are someone who learns best by listening rather than reading. I found that I remembered the info better by listening, and I was in a time crunch so being able to listen in the car really helped.

My only complaints:

1. I wish the diagrams had been offered as PDFs downloadable into the Audible library, but they weren't, so I had to use my own hand as a diagram, and utilized Google images for the bits I wasn't able to spot on my own hand.

2. The audiobook reader is one of my least favorites. He routinely mispronounces jargon. But at least in this particular book, there isn't all that much jargon to mispronounce, so he doesn't drive me as nuts here as he has in some of Ms. Silva's other books.

not bad

Feel like more pictures to really show examples would have been greatly hopeful. Over all like that it covers all areas of the hands but again for beginners more things to reference would be nice
