They say every action you take has a series of consequences. And that death is an inevitable end. There is truth to all of that, but for a price. The precious thing you lost, might just find its way back to you…
Fourteen years ago, Blake Wilder's life turned into one of tragedy. In an instant she lost her family... Her parents murdered, and her sister taken. At the age of 22, Blake joined the FBI in hopes of discovering the truth behind the mysteries of her past. Now, she is called to a homicide scene involving a brutal murder of a male victim. But, what started out as a simple case turns into one that involves a sadistic killer that preys on young women. And the further Blake dives into the case the more she realizes that the killer has a dark and twisted fantasy life of romance and courtship.
And with his eighth victim already in his grasp, it’s up to her to get into the man's head and figure him out before the clock runs out on this girl and he moves onto his ninth victim.
Roses are red. Violets are blue. What ever you do, don’t let him catch you.
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
There are a lot of inconsistencies in both this book and the first. In the first book, she’s eating with her cousin and has steak and a fully loaded baked potato. Later, Astra asks her why she won’t eat baked potatoes and Blake shares her reasoning why. Meanwhile, I’m thinking that’s weird bc she ate one a few chapters back. In this book, this pudgy, middle-aged man gets the drop on her in her parking garage and can stick a needle in her neck, and yet we learned in the first book she’s a black belt in 2 martial arts disciplines. That makes no sense. I also recognize that this is an indie writer who may not have an editor, (she says it at the end of both books) but it feels like the proofreading is very lacking. Probably doesn’t bother a lot of people, but I definitely noticed. Not trying to be harsh, but inconsistencies and grammar bug me, and if they bug you too, maybe skip this series.
The writing is awkward, repetitive, and frequently downright silly as to dialogue. There is no suspense, no thrill involved, just blandness and boredom to endure with the sub-par writing and ho- hum story. There is literally no good reason for me to read any more of this so I am cutting my losses. I don't care how it ends - it is so weak that it should never have begun.
I just found this author not long ago and I LOVE her books. Blake was in the other series she is writing (Paxton Arrington) so you get to see the characters in both series, which I love. Blake is a dedicated FBI agent, that has a feel for how criminals behave and you see how she solves these crimes and her thought process. I just loved this book and can't wait for more.
Another mystery for Special Agent Blake Wilder to deal with, alongside looking for whoever killed her parents and kidnapped her sister years ago! I have to admit, I don't like Blake much, I don't know why but she is kind of showed as good at everything she does, which is annoying!!
Anyway, this case is mind blowing! A serial killer who takes women and makes them his "perfect wife"! Yeaah, it was so interesting. The unsub's POV was the best part of this book! It felt so creepy being inside his head and reading how he justified everything he did to his victims 😱🫣
So SSA Wilder has a team, her best friend Astra, a tech guy Rick and Mo, a new fed! I like the dynamics of the team, Astra is so smart and funny!
If it weren't for Mark, i would have stopped this series, but know i need to know more! Who killed Blake's parents? Why is the government covering it? And more importantly, who the hell is Mark?
And I quote "A thrilling adventure with an entertaining escape with each story." Just what, I, as a reader need right now. Hopefully it won't be long before another adventure from either Paxton or Blake is ready to read, so I can enjoy another one of these escapes. Good easy reading!
I still don't understand how she's published SO many books in the last two years, I see she self-publishes both e-books (which I do not like, I prefer the feel of books) and paperbacks. So, she's been writing a while to have so many titles out so fast.
I see some criticisms but those would be corrected with an editor, I hope she gets picked up by some publishing house, she could use the help, but her stories (this is my second) are well done, there are some little errors that an editor would see to but they don't detract from the stories.
Blake Wilder is a very strong female protagonist, the stories are well plotted and written. There are some minor inconsistencies but the books grab you and you want to push through them quickly. I like that, she's got real talent. I could do with less of the "romance" pieces, one can tell a female author by the way they describe male bodies, but there isn't much of that, no explicit sex, just a woman dedicated to her job which is taking horrible people off the streets. I don't much care for Astra, she's way too overcooked for me, but I like the rest of her new team as she's gotten a promotion since the first book and is now a supervisory special agent with her own team, though it is NOT what she was promised. She has to navigate the difference between being friends with colleagues and now being their boss - that's tricky, I know, I've been in that situation twice. She manages it nicely.
There's a bit too much banter (Astra) that I just don't like, don't care for people who do that to other people, smart ass remarks constantly but can put up with as the stories themselves are compelling enough. There's also the background of her parent's murder and her sister's abduction when she was a child which propelled her into the FBI. She's never stopped trying to figure out what happened and why and so, of course, there's this nice man in her life, a doctor, who is also working for someone who wants her killed if she ever gets close to the truth of her past. I imagine somewhere in the series that gets handled, but I don't like that part, I don't like his duplicity, I don't like assassins to begin with. I'm assuming it's necessary for the series but I don't have to like it. It really doesn't take up much room here in the beginning but it's something that bugs me anyway. Overall, I really like her work and will continue on through it, she's really worth it.
## Excellent read. I really like Blake. And her partner Astra was so much better in this 2nd book. This was like a super long Criminal Minds episode and following along with the clues was fun. There is suspense along with the crime drama which makes for an engaging story. The only thing I don't like is that Blake is supposedly this amazing profiler/investigator yet she's being played by her "lover". No background check? No suspicions? It just isn't feasible or believable. Other than that....fabulous.
📖 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 📖 . . TITLE: A Perfect Wife (Blake Wilder FBI #2) AUTHOR: Elle Gray GENRE: Mystery-Thriller . . My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . . My Review: Overall, this is a good book, if you love mystery, crime, and detective work, you will enjoy this book. Although it is part of a series you don’t need to read this book in order. The protagonist does a great job giving you every detail you need to know; in case you didn’t read the first book. As someone who read the first book, I felt there was a strange time jump from the first book to the second. A LOT happens in this “in between” period: promotions, moves, new team, etc. The protagonist does a good job at explaining everything that has happened, but because of these explanations we don’t get to the actual crime/mystery until a few chapters in. This book is a lot darker than the first. We get a first-hand look into the mind of our killer and although most may not like how dark and creepy it is, I rather enjoyed the perspective. I do wish we would have had more chapters from the killer’s perspective but that might have turned into a different type of book. The one pattern I am noticing is that the protagonist bends the rules to solve cases. She boarder lines breaks them but that is debatable. It raises the question: does the end justify the means? She always gets the job done but I wonder if any other reader has an issue with her methods. I’m curious to see if this pattern will be a recuring things. The ending of this book did feel rushed, but we do get a taste of what’s to come in the third book and it makes me want to start the third book immediately.
The Perfect Wife is book 2 in this thriller, mystery series of FBI Special Agent Blake Wilder. This character is a strong and a ‘no holds barred’ type of personality. She has no fear of taking on the toughest of cases and will stop at nothing to see the perpetrator pay for his/her crimes.
This was a non-stop action type of mystery, suspense and crime series that kept me on the edge of my seat. There was plenty of joviality mixed in with the characters who were eclectic and fascinating as they tackled each job that was given to them. Blake Wilder was in charge of this group of talented agents who had to get used to each other and learn how to work together. Astra Russo was one of these agents that Blake had chosen to be in her task force. Astra just happens to be her best friend and most trusted ally.
The way the characters bounced off of one another and shared a camaraderie gave a special touch to the story and made the reader feel a kinship to them all as the group did what they had to do to solve the horrendous crimes. This was a most enjoyable and well written series that I would highly recommend to all mystery readers. I look forward to the next book in this wonderful series by such a talented author.
Blake is back after being at New York bureau for a year. She has a newly formed unit has it's first case with a murdered man linked with a missing fiance'. Her BFF Astra is on her team which causes friction between the two of them. The case is boggling and Blake tries too hard to make everything fit her profile instead of input from her team which puts her and Astra at odds. Illegally obtained information helps her and the team connect some more cases and make the SPD look bad (told over & over agin) which causes threats on Blake. The other story of her trying to solver her parent's execution gets more interesting since she's hooked back up with Mark who is still planted in her life for nefarious reasons. For an FBI agent you would think she would do a background on her boyfriend. Also an FBI agent should have better grammar skills or the editor. The continuous use of the word "got" instead of "have" was annoying along with the numerous spelling and punctuation errors. I will pick up the next book but not anytime soon. I'm invested in way better books so this will be on the back burner
I am really glad to have come across the Blake Wilder series. Elle Gray writes a fast reading story, that is intriguing and at times edge of seat interesting. Blake and her FBI team have learned to become a cohesive unit. They tease each other and make you laugh, but also step up to the plate when needing to get busy on finding anything to bring the unsub down. I have read a lot of books about the FBI, but Elle Gray uses some comedy to keep the story from getting bogged down. She also uses some romance as a break, too. As we learned, Blakes is still trying to uncover the mystery of her parents death. Blakes lover is working with someone, to keep Blake from finding out why her parents were killed. So you have two very interesting stories going on at one time and a fast reading great story. If this sounds good, this is your book. I am hooked, and planning to finish this series and others written by Elle Gray.
Alright, first things first. There's a strange time jump from the first book to this one. Its strange because Blake references things that happened during the break like the audience already knows about them. It honestly made me feel like I'd missed a book. So indefinitely didn't care for that.
Other than that, it's got great creep factor. It has that dark Criminal Minds vibe. I'm not sure how I feel about the weird secondary plot with Mark. I think it deserves more screen time, or whatever the book equivalent of screen time is, to really pack a punch. Right now, it's more weird than anything. I'm not very invested. Curious but not invested. I do love Blake and her team though. I have a big crush on Astra Russo! Its a good read and I recommend it
OMG, I am sick of hearing how beautiful Astra is. For someone that is supposed to be so confident, she sure is insecure next to her bestie. The author sounds like a teenager the way she talks about looks. SSA Wilder constantly brags about how well trained in profiling she and her colleagues are compared to the average person, but cannot read her Dr. Boyfriend. As an agent, would you not think to do a background check on who you are dating? Also, she is trained in a couple of martial arts, as well as a graduate of the FBI Academy, yet cannot run and hide from, nor takedown a small, pilsbury doughboy of a man without getting a broken nose and being stabbed?!? Never mind that, but the fact that he was able to sneak up on her in the first place is ridiculous. This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read.
This book starts off with a time jump several years into the future. Blake has been in New York piloting a new crime team using data metrics to drive their investigations. I love the thought and the role of Blake leading her own team as a supervisory agent. Though there is a time jump, the author still catches us up with the main characters, including Astra and Mark. While I liked the plot, some of the repetitive cliches are getting to me. Does the author have a personal vendetta against the Seattle police department or is she really just trying to portray the stereotype that hard? It becomes repetitive and annoying as the book goes on. I liked the plot, seeing Blake building her career and her team, but the over exaggerated cliches and stereotypes lend to an author who could refine her writing
As an avid reader this is an easy ready that keeps you interested but you don’t have to think too hard about. It’s kinda like sitting down to watch Law & Order SVU or Grey’s Anatomy. It’s quick and easy but also entertaining. There are some typos, and like I saw on another review some inconsistencies. I’m only on book 3, so this may get better with time but Elle Gray feels the need to tell the story of every character, every time. So we get the background of Maisie and Marco, and her Aunt and Astra in the same detail in Book 2 and Book 3. By Book 3, I got it Maisie is shy, her Aunt doesn’t like her job, and Astra is drop dead. Interesting books for Kindle Unlimited subscription, I will keep reading.
This is the 2nd in the series about FBI Agent, Blake Wilder. She has now been promoted and is in charge of her own team. Her best friend, along with being one of the best FBI agents, Astra and two others form the team.
There first case is the murder of a male victim. With very little clues to the man's identity, they have very little to go on. But, Blake and her team don't give up and with their skills the find out the identity of the man. As they delve more into this case, they find it links up to the disappearance and murder of seven women.
This was really a page turner and I definitely will pick up the next in this series!!
Blake is back and so is Astra, but this time in a new unit and solving a case that Blake is the lead on. New characters form their unit and it is a hoot seeing the team dynamic evolve. The case is intriguing as it goes from murder to kidnapping to serial killer. The storyline is fast and colorful. There is a dash of romance thrown in, but even then the two romances discussed seem a bit hinky as Blake’s bc is certainly not who he seems and Astra’s bf has not met or seen anyone else in the story! This story grabbed my attention and I am ready to see what happens next for the two female agents and the rest of their team!
I really enjoyed this book. The pace of the books kept me engaged and I didn’t want to put it down. I received it as a gift so I hadn’t read the first in the series. Prior to the ending I really wanted to read the first in the series. After completing, I am horribly torn because I am anxious to read the next in the series. I hate cliff hangers in general because that means that normally means the story wasn’t completed and I feel robbed. But this is so different. Great job giving me just enough of tease to both closure for the book, while providing a provocative reason to read the next.
Delighted when I found the first book in a new long series by a talented crime writer. Equally delighted when I followed her to this next installment of the adventures of Blake Wilder, FBI. The story is sophisticated and the characters inspire loyalty. I was surprised to read that Ms. Gray is new to this because the whole plot, narrative, and character development seems polished and professional to me. There is even a subsidiary story line that compels the reader to the next book in the series but for all that, I’d be jumping on the next one without any additional compulsion; they’re a good read.
First, I have to say how much I enjoyed this book. It had a great pace and was very interesting. That brings me to my second point. I know this is book 2 in the series, but did it seem to anyone else that they were missing something? Blake Wilder was in NY for a year, given a promotion, and came back to Seattle to run her own team. The end of book 1 did not make you think that she was going anywhere. Was there a book in between books 1 and 2? Book 1.5? I am getting ready to read book 3, as I am enjoying this series. Let's see where this one starts.

A terrifying and ordinary madman with a serious God complex...and a team of eccentric agents, each with incredibly well crafted personalities that add depth to their ability to form a stellar crime scene. As a writer, ive been asked, are my stories more plot or more about the characters? Well of course its both, but my characters drive the pen, and its no different here. Every character springs to life, flawed, and interesting, and way too smart. Blake Wilder is everything the heroine should be. Thank you Elle Gray
Another very strong story from Elle Gray, with likeable and realistic main characters and a very engaging story. A few editing errors and some repetition in places, but overall I found this to be a very enjoyable book. Also, unlike in a lot of contemporary mystery/thrillers, there's minimal highly graphic/sadistic violence on stage, which I appreciate (although there's one badly mutilated body, which I didn't like).
I'm amazed that Ms Gray can put out this quality of book at the rate she's doing, which is roughly two novels a month. Incredible!
What a great read!! Anyone that loves suspense novels will love this book! It is a might but predictable towards the end, but then Gray throws an unforeseen twist! Mark’s character is so well written that you want to hate him but can’t help adore him! The insight into the FBI is impressive, including procedures and protocols! Gray hits another one out of the park with A Perfect Wife! It will cool you to your core, but leave you beginning for more!!!
I have enjoyed reading about Blake Wilder and her career choice in the FBI. Both books, so far, have kept me up late reading, just one more chapter. I’m looking forward to the next book. I would, however, like to offer some feedback concerning the editing of these books. There are words omitted and incorrect grammar which some folks may not even notice, but it screams at me. The editing of a lot of books nowadays tends to be a bit sloppy. You should correct that.
In my opinion A Perfect Wife is a little better the the first Blake Wilder book. I liked the POV of the killer. I found it interesting and his justifications for what he was doing. I like Blake's group. There was some mystery and suspense. The killer is not revealed till Elle Gray was ready to reveal him. What is keeping me reading is finding out what Mark is up to and who killed Blake's parents and who snatched her sister. Overall I liked this book a little more than the first one. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
I am a reader of dark erotica and usually never stray. When I picked up this book, I didn't know there wouldn't be any sex and didn't know if it would hold my interest. But it surely did. Since this is the first book of this author I've read, I had no background on the main character or the author's style, etc. I totally enjoyed the book, it deserved 5 stars snd I will surely read more of her books.
I thought this series had promise after the first book, but I just couldn’t finish this one. I had to skip to the end and I’m not going to read the next one. For someone who tells us constantly how good at her job she is, she’s blind to a threat right beside her. And some of the dialogue is just ridiculous. It’s like she’s a girl pretending to be an FBI agent. No agent would actually act like this.
