Rika, a successful artist, lives with the trauma of being misdiagnosed with schizophrenia. Days before her big show, Rika uncovers a family secret. Shattered by this information, Rika abandons reason for the night, a choice inadvertently resulting in the death of a loved one. In search of answers, Rika agrees to an unexpected dinner invitation. There she learns magic exists, witches are real and pose a mortal threat to her very kind. Upset by what she views as a sick joke, Rika tries to leave, only to find herself kidnapped and trapped in the world of Athra.
I really wanted to love this book, and initially I did, but the lack of editing of grammar and spelling marred the love of the read. The incomplete thoughts and the language used made me think that English was not the author’s first tongue and this was a translation. Yet, this book has a very good premise of a woman suffering from mental illness induced by magic and her fight to come into her own.
I read this book in one day! I loved it. I can definitely say I’m not so patiently waiting on book 2. Ma’am I have now began side eyeing you on TikTok because how dare book 2 not be ready and available yet. One thing refreshing about the main character was the fact how she quickly adapted to what was being thrown at her. There wasn’t a sense of woe is me, just oh ok this is my new reality; let me do what I gotta do. Again where’s book 2?
Definitely a book I couldn't put down! Was really good and fast paced. Though at times I had to re-read some sections to make sure I understood. I also have lots of questions and can't wait for the next book to hopefully answer them!
Definitely on the edge of your seat reading! A Witch in the Garden will have you captivated from beginning to end! Definitely need to read over and over to absorb all the juicy details!
The story for this book is interesting and I liked the journey! …but wowzers, the typos! It got worse as the book went along. It felt as if I was reading a first draft for someone. Words repeated randomly in sentences, some sentences just cut off in the middle, a ton of (consistent) spelling mistakes, and some wild grammar. I think this book would’ve been much improved with even one additional reader/editor before this went for publication. It also ended quite abruptly with very little closure; I assume this was to be a cliff hanger and second book opportunity? All that said? I liked the story and would read another one in this universe. I’d like to know what Rika gets up to from here.
I struggled with this book so much that I literally stopped reading for about a week... which is unheard of for me. The only reason I made it through is because of how short it was.
It could have been good-- but the awful, jumpy pacing and terrible editing really detracted, not to mention the savior main character whom I couldn't get into enough to care about. It seems like there's going to be a sequel... I will not be reading it.
I’m glad she scrolled across my FYP on TikTok. I love it when authors excite their readers with a new world. In the mist of reading 4 other books I found myself unable to wait to read her book. I’m glad no one questions me scrolling into work late. I had to read just one more chapter after my alarm told me it was time to go to work. 🤣I’m waiting on the next book.
The premise of the story was really interesting and I wanted to love this book. However, the editing was poorly done and really took away from the story. There were multiple times when full sentences or paragraphs were repeated or a thought was left unfinished. Based on the story concept, I would be willing to give the author another, but it would need a better editing job
This work of art here... the author kept me guessing at every turn. It was so enthralling it kept me reading start to finish, I couldn't put it down. Author of the year, you MUST read!
This book is well written. It is an absolute must read that has well developed characters and left me wanting more. The plot twist after plot twist kept me on my seat and the world created was magical. 10/10
This book is phenomenal. It’s a wild ride that has everything you could ask for. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and from getting things done. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a few hours!!!!
I really love this book. I couldn’t put in down. So many twists and turns. The way it ended leaves me to believe that there will be a second book. I really hope so!
This book will keep you on your toes. You will travel with the protagonist and feel the whirlwind of emotions that she feels as she learns about herself.
This book was good. bumped up my review to a 4 because I believe in this author, in the beautiful stories being told, the vital characters made real, the imagination in the world building. But it was in need of major editing and at times it was difficult to read. I often felt confused by new information or scene shifts. The movement of the plot was disjointed often. I’m excited to see this author grow.
A unique and thrilling fantasy full of diverse representation. This story was captivating from the very beginning. Rika is a great a flawed protagonist but I can't help but root fit her. I'm ready for my next expedition to Athra
