Over 2,000 pages of nonstop action! Two decades after he was banished from his homeworld for a disaster that still haunts him, Eli Bryce and his crew of unrepentant troublemakers struggle to survive on the edges of the galaxy.
But when they rescue a near-dead castaway with an impossible secret, everything changes.
Soon, the greatest conspiracy in the galaxy is unfolding around them and they have no choice but to fight.
But what can one ship full of outcasts do to save Earth and the rest of the galaxy from annihilation?
How could anyone read a chapter a month when the author first wrote this trash and keep reading? They must hate themselves. Got through 27% . Auther has no imagination, no concept of gravity,no idea about ship design. The pilot at one point pulled his ship weighing many tons through the water by a rope while swimming. Most of his writing is absurd.
I greatly enjoy a good sci-fi story/novel. These books are ok but when I find myself questioning the absolute impossibility of distance traveled in a given time period mixed with the almost backwards tech that seems to be prevalent mixed with fairly futuristic tech, I tend to get frustrated, which in turn detracts from the enjoyment. To be fair, the authour's deface stated that the science was much lacking and it was just a rough and tumble shoot em up story. The chapters were reasonably well developed and at times I did find it hard to pit down. As always some added benefit could be had with better proof reading and editing. Overall not a bad read, just frustrated that with a little more science it could have been a really good read.
Plenty of action, suspense and Eli and his crew to keep you reading until the end. Appreciated having all the books in one place to binge read. Fast paced , intriguing stories. Don’t miss out.
Okay story, poor continuity and bad representation of space travel
Authors seemed determined to use every word in the thesaurus while describe combat and reactions, even if they didn't make sense. Use of made up terms happens in sci-fi, but good ones either are understood in context, or are given definitions...neither of which happen. Additionally, insane distances are used as though talking about looking across a field, when even a massive radio telescope would have trouble picking up a signal, let alone the naked eye.
Wish it would have been better, 9 books of this was just too much. Glad I can just delete and don't have to apologize to the trees that would have gone into printed version.
Outrageous technology, Outrageous resilience, and overall tons of fun. I liked the ship getting hit with a blast and being tossed several parsers. Kinda reminded me of doing the Kessel run... :) if you are looking for hard core Sci Fi with tech based in science this is not for you. But a rollicking space opera with lots of action, this is a great series
As promised, this is an old-fashioned sci-fi series centred on the storylines and characters rather than cutting edge or even vaguely realistic science. And that's absolutely fine by me -- all too often the urge to show off science understanding gets in the way of great story telling. This is pure entertainment, and a fun read. It won't stick in the mind for long after you finish but while you're reading, you're all in!
I had to double-check that this book wasn't written by J.N. Chaney, because it felt exactly like one. None of the characters were likeable, and the action was boring. I quit somewhere in the first novel, wondering what possesses me to try out these things.
If you like fun with your Action Series, this is the story!
Eli is an unassuming guy who makes the decision to help those in distress & danger. But it cost him his job.
Enter Eli Bryce, Captain of the Delivery Scout "Boomerang". A long with River - his pilot, Waylon, his gunner & Jood, his alien friend whom he'd saved, running Engineering, the Boomerang picks stuff up & delivers it somewhere. Until the terms are too steep. But they did save Yasha Aliyevah, to the crews benefit.
Watch Eli, Jood, River Waylon & Yasha travel at breakneck speed & bite off more than most senior military officers can handle. But handle it they do, & with style to boot! Jump on the Boomerang & grab a ride. But expect it to be fun, but also fast-action.
Enjoy this amusing set of personalities as they run towards big booms & save whomever they can. I will miss this group as I truly enjoyed the story. I am off to the next series.... And a huge fan hug for Mr James & Mr Young. Thank you for this endearing story to Light my days & nights.
I don’t think I have ever read such a poorly written book. Imagine, if you will, a class of eighth grade boys, armed with a thesaurus, a laptop running Windows 95, and an unlimited supply of Jolly Ranchers writing a series. I can’t conceive what could motivate them to produce the sheer volume of words for 9 “books”. Unfortunately, I read ALL of them with misplaced hope to find a redeeming plot resolution, improvement in writing style, or punch line to this joke. The writing did get worse, the language more coarse, and I began to see actual misspelling as spell check got bored as well. I’m ashamed I read it all and embarrassed to admit so to others. Alternatively I would not be surprised if this series was produced as warning of what AI will do to literature, after inputting He Man cartoons, the Firefly shows and Guardians of the Galaxy. …would not recommend!
Non stop action resulting in a cross of Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars, Star Trek, Deep Space 9 & others. Eli Bryce is banished from Earth and has been gone 25 years. With his ship, the Boomerang, and an interesting crew of misfits, he is once again trying to save Earth with other forces trying to kill him and others. He still holds a deep respect for humanity as well as other races including a Zynnar -- a people hated by most humans. You'll find adventure, regrets, depression and humor throughout. The lives that are impacted and the alien worlds, the brotherhood that finally gives Eli purpose and fulfillment. I could not put these books down. Well written, a few grammatical mistakes but not bad, but these books do move and you won't be able to out them down for long as you get wrapped up in the characters & their worlds.
I love book sets and this is a good one to read. Full of action and battles and danger as the crew tries to survive it all. This is the simple tale of Eli and the adventure his crew of outcasts ends up in. The story begins with a bang and a lot of action and just gets better as it goes. The story was easy to follow and had scenes that made me laugh out loud. Just a good story that was good at drawing me in right from the beginning and kept me reading to solve the mystery of what was really going on. Full of action, adventure, danger, and snarky team members, it was a great read. Had to keep reading each book just to see what trouble the gang were in this time and how they would get out of it. The battles were fun too. Loved the character interactions and the suspense too.
Took forever to get going. After 2 books I was tempted to give up. Thankfully I kept with it and was rewarded with a fun and at times sentimental story The space battles and fights between people left a bit to be desired. The way they are described, enough bullets, explosives and laser are fired to level a planet, yet spaceships continue to operate and need little repair after and people seem to just shrug off whatever is thrown at them, again with little medical care The crew are all certifiably bonkers, you think the crew are the worst and the captain keeps them grounded, by the end of the series, you realise he is as bad if not worse than the crew Overall a good set of books. Stick with them, don't get the slow start put you off
The best way im able to describe this would be Robert E. Howard and his barbarian lords and hordes have joined the ranks of Star Wars and performed a cosplay of Lord of the Rings. An entertaining respite from the drudgery of reality which I enjoyed thoroughly! There were a few incredulous ideas in the read and what are termed books really are simply chapters (or episodes in a television aspect) but if you're a sci-fi fiend like myself, you'll certainly enjoy this space opera. Looking forward to reading the books in this thread. To the authors, much gratitude for break you've provided!!!
I picked this series up on a whim, and from the beginning it was hard to put down. Eli Bryce and his crew of misfit outlaws embarked on an adventure to save Earth and that was only the tip of the iceberg. This is an incredible saga of human will and tells how people are at their best when loyalty and friendship are the glue that binds them together. The battles are epic, the villains dastardly, and the heroes surprising. A guaranteed combination that will keep you entertained from cover to cover.
Why not quite a 4? It is a very traditional space opera with the reader suspending belief here and there. I love that the Boomerang is beloved by her captain and crew she always keeps them safe. The nine books in the series read well and are very enjoyable.
The book starting the next series would get a three from me. Suspending belief here and there is one thing but adding that to unrelenting revenge and some sloppy sentences? Not for me!
The first book tells a good story. The second lost me when the authors called a pH of 11 acidic. The rest of the books tell the same story over and over and over again. Someone compared this to Star Wars. No. Star Wars takes some liberties with actual physics, these books defy physics. Ships do not slow to a stop in space when their propulsion shuts down. And how many times can a ship get hit by weapons meant to destroy them and not be destroyed? Too many times in these books for my tastes. I can't believe I slogged through all nine books.
Ok, so you’ll have to suspend your disbelief at some of the things Eli, Jood and the rest of our hearty crew do…. But you’ll have a great time! A swashbuckler meets Star Wars/Star Trek adventure!
I read the stories in the omnibus and got to read Eli’s growth page by page… though, really, when you find out what he did to end up at the @ss end of space in the first place..well, you realize he was always THAT guy who does the right thing!
I enjoyed the read and am looking forward to more!
Excellent science fiction adventure with abundant battles!
The small indomitable crew of the Boomerang, fights it’s way across half the galaxy, battling against corrupt military officers, that have abandoned their pledges of loyalty to the people. Against seemingly overwhelming odds, they succeed at the eleventh hour.
I received a no cost copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.
The series starts hard &continues to the end in a mad rush of cliff hangers & calamities. If you like tech descriptions and fantastical description of non existent phenomenon this will disappoint. But not hanging up on unknown physics lets action take the fore for the better its an action story first with hero's and villains without the wishy washy currently fashionable inbetweener people that are so bland in the end.
Someone said a good book is one that you can't wait to finish and then when you do you wish it would continue. This wasn't one of them... At times I couldn't put it down, at others I had to scan/ speed read because it bored me... How many tight spots can the good guys get in before you just get bored whiie waiting for the author to get them out of it and get on with the story? In this series it just got ridiculous!
Overall this was a well written story and was very entertaining. The author is exceptional at blow by blow descriptions of complex battle scenes. The only question I have is how many times can a small ship have all of its engines blown up and the hull breached yet still wind up victorious?
If you are reading this review, just so you know, I know you all are are going to enjoy this set. I had issues with some of the things they wrote, but I think it’s good start to finish. As with other great books in this genre, I found that I really hated that it was over. Check it out and I’m sure you will agree with me. Good reading and enjoy!
These books are well written and you care about the main characters. I enjoyed the whole series. Anyone who likes space battles against determined enemies will enjoy the series. It is so much more than a space battle story. There are amazing planets to visit, amazing back stories for the characters, and plot twists that will leave your head spinning.
When you read the introduction to this box set you'll discover any trace of possible science has been set aside. This is an easy read as you quickly turn the pages to follow the action of which there is plenty. Our crew of heroes go from one conflict to another trying to set things right and save the Earth. An added surprise is the inclusion of the first book in a new series.
This was a good series to read . It got to the point that I just couldn't put it down. Was a great read and well worth the price. I was reading it on Kindle Unlimited and liked it so much that I bought it for my collection.
The fast pace and detailed battles were well written. Each chapter ended with a cliff hanger that made you hunger for more. I had to tear myself away from reading to get some sleep.
Fast paced space adventure, couldn't put it down. Multiple situations, that the crew finds themselves facing and successfully winning through. Great mix of larger than life characters. Would definitely read these authors books again. Thanks for a great read
Liked: All the books; the hardships the main characters had to and did endure. You wondered whether the minds and bodies could keep up! Good read for anyone who likes life on a knife edge.
