A desperate deal. A catastrophic disaster. A father who will stop at nothing to return home.

Far from home, a father makes a secret deal with the devil to secure his family’s future.

Alone on their rural homestead, his wife and child continue to eke out a quiet living, quietly counting the days until he returns.

When the mother of all earthquakes rips North and South America apart, the family’s survival skills will be tested more than they ever realize as they fight to survive - and reunite - in the face of overwhelming odds.

This has a different premise for the apocalypse with a series of earthquakes instead of an EMP or zombies. We are never told what has been the genesis of these devastating and widespread quakes, but perhaps that will happen in a later book, so I will suspend my questioning the science until then. There are a lot of people in different places, though centered largely in Mexico, also a nice change. I suppose jumping back and forth in time for the backstory is necessary, but I did find it a little disorienting at times. We do have some stereotypes of crime cartels and unscrupulous federal agents...no strangers to post-apocalyptic fiction. I look forward to the next book in the series to see what happens.

Aftershocks - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Betrayal, separation, desperation, disaster and Apocalyptic thrills and danger follow this character-driven, survival-of-the-fittest, Armageddon-scaled worldwide disaster epic in Book 1 of the series of the same name - Aftershocks.
Guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat, gripped by this eminently-possible, what if...? near future possibility of an epic event occuring with little or no warning, Justin Bell and Mike Kraus' all-action thriller is a fantastic series opener that you must not miss - grab it today and then head for the hills!

What a ride!

From the first little shock waves to the city crippling ones, non-stop action from southern California to the Gulf of Mexico. Two men trying to get home to Mexico, wives struggling to care for families and a nasty cartel thrown in to boot, lots to take in this first leg of the journey. I just wonder something though. If Rico is an American citizen and they are going off the grid, why stay in Mexico???? Seems they could have more easily disappeared into the US and been better hidden. It's not like they stayed for their families......

What a scary scenario!

If you've ever been in a large earthquake it is something you never forget. This book have a pretty good description of how it feels. I like these characters and the situations they are facing. In every disaster you see the goid, the bad, and the ugly. Each person responds according to their own gifts. Can't wait to read these survival stories. On to book 2.

Great read

Another great start to a series by 2 awesome authors. I always wait until the entire series is available before reading. I read a book a day and prefer to read one after another, when I'm familiar with the writers. This series begins as I hoped! Well written and edited, great storyline, and engaging characters. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy PA sci fi that is not heavy on detailed weaponry or long time preppers.

This book had a compelling story but some really bad situations. The hero is locked in a room so he pours water on the floor and the villains run in and slide and trip like cartoon characters on banana peels. The NPC is a receptionist who suddenly needs to escape the FBI so strongly she joins a shooter with a gun. It goes on and on. I read this book in the series but don’t know if I’ll continue with the next book.

I have read a few of Mike Kraus's books along with his collaborations with other authors.
Never have I been disappointed and in this book I think he and Justin Bell have excelled themselves.

A gripping main story with various sub plots all as exciting as the main story.
The only disappointment was in finishing it and not having the next book on hand.

No ending

I hate books that do not have an ending and require you to purchase another book. While the story was engaging, I would never have bought had I known.
Authors need to respect their readers and let them know upfront that another purchase would be required and let the reader decide. I will NOT purchase the second book. Shame

Sad

Starts out interesting but goes on way too long. And then it leaves you hanging in the middle of the story. The second book is ok but again too long AND again leaves you hanging in the middle of an idea. What makes it even worse is the continuation is in the third book which is yet to be published.

A thrill ride from GO! This was a fast paced book that I read in a day or two. There is a lot of action and some storylines to follow. Some of the storyline was developed while others weren't as much. I also thought it could have ended better... they make you go to the next book to see what happens. It's ok that they do it but it leaves you hanging. All in all a good solid 4 star rating.

A huge earthquake and a father trying to save his family. A beginning to a suspenseful and intriguing series. Once you start, there’s no way until you read to the end to find out what happens. I absolutely loved the book .

Excellent start to his new series

As usual Justin grabs your attention early getting you involved with his characters. He drops plenty of clues as to how the story may develop showing threads of the story to come.
