Magical cookie jars. A robot’s search for God. A friendly giant worm. Wormhole (and other stories) will introduce you to characters who are stuck in rooms, stuck on ships, stuck in old ways of thinking, even stuck in the past. In these eight stories underpinned by magical realism, the reader is invited into strange and wonderful worlds that raise questions of purpose, identity and connection.
I generally don't read short stories; the ones I have tried seemed to lack a little finality. That was not the case with Wormhole however. Each story was perfectly crafted, and achieved a perfect arc. I felt a connection with each story, ended each one with very strong feelings. All the stories were super nuanced and subtle. They made me think, without beating me over the head with a message.
Each story was completely unique in terms of the story beats, voice, characters - everything. But somehow they still all made sense as one collection. And the writing was beyond excellent. I would say that it's some of the best writing I've ever encountered.
