I read a lot of dark romance, so I can say that this is one of the dumbest books I've ever read in my entire reading career. Given that this has been on my reading list for a long time and was connected in ETG, I really attempted to finish it. They are just a bunch of good morals in the trash college kids, I can't stand it 😭 and the setting is situated in a school, which is the most absurd thing you could do to establish the scene. It's like reading a trashy international rh book to kill time. I have to laugh at how ridiculous and obvious the plot is, despite her best efforts to write a book that she is not accustomed to. I think I would like this book if it was set in a similar time period to Montello High in 2010ish, when mafia plotlines ruled Wattpad. Unfortunately, PTG still stands. This is hardly her best work sorry.
Not really interesting.
Just read it because they said it accompanies ETG.
I just want to put those out before writing my proper review on this book for everybody’s knowledge. If you’re not into that, I highly suggest you not read this because it deals with that, but if you are open minded, this may interest you.
(This is kinda long, please bear with me haha)
(CONTEXT ONLY; You can skip this)
For a little context, I have read this book on Wattpad when it was finished then, wayback 2017 (if my memory serves me right). I remember how much I loved this book, it’s story, how I got so hooked in reading it, BUT for me to read the next season of the book, I need to get the self-published copy. Yes, only the season 1 is what you can read on the Wattpad app.
That’s why I got so irritated then, lol. (Though, there was a warning given at the beginning). Buying books during that time wasn’t my best interest, but around 2018-2019-ish I finally got my hands on the physical copy! I was able to get the hardcover, 1st batch, pre-loved of someone, and pre-ordered the paperback, 2nd batch directly on where Ate Eydee would self-published her books.
While waiting for my pre-ordered copy, I re-read the first part again haha. So, when I got my hands on the physical copy, I was then finally able to read the whole book. Then last year, re-read it again.
So more or less, this review is done after re-reading it for about 5 times haha.
(REVIEW PROPER; No spoilers)
This book is set in a world where Mafia and powerful people reigns, whom would compete against each other for the sake of power. It focused in a school, a secluded, very private one, where the rich, those who belong in a known mafia-family, can only enter there and know it. In that school, the students were classified and divided into different hierarchies; Dieux (top), Deuxième, Troisième, and Quatrième (lowest, like scholars).
Won’t further elaborate each class, but wherever you belong there, that’s also how you will be treated. If on the top, you are feared, respected, and no one will dare to mess with you.
The main female character is Belinda Estrella. She wants a simple life. Growing up, she knows the world she lives in, but she grew up and lived in Japan, where her parents sent her to. But the time came when she went back to the Philippines to study at Academia de Mondragon. There she discovered it’s not just an ordinary school and have met different people. As time pass by, she discovers why she’s there, who are the people surrounding her, knowing truths, unleashing the inner beast, love, hatred, revenge, and more.
Definitely a 5-star read! This is a book I love to talk about so much! Been recommending this so my friends since then. This has gotten me so hooked, the writing style of Ate Eydee never disappoints!
I don’t see why this isn’t so hyped, like her other books, but I swear it’s so worth it! Love the every bit of this book. Wished I could read this for the first time again! Seriously, regardless of how many times I have read this, the same feelings I felt the first time, still normally comes back as I read it again, SOOO AMAZING!
Would recommend for you to find and get yourself a physical copy to fully enjoy it. Read it! (But again, check TWs hehe it’s intense. If you want a comforting book, this might not be that but it definitely needs to be in you TBR!)
this was so messy to begin with. everything was happening all at once like plot twists everywhere and although i appreciate the author's idea, it's just all scattered everywhere. i think the character i became most attached to was night. but he was fucked up as well. ALL OF THEM ARE, LITERALLY. i appreciate how gory and graphic and visceral it was, however, it kinda became cringe as it went on especially that it was situated in a school and full of mafia families, idk this felt like y2k wattpad thingy, i wouldn't even be shocked if the author added werewolf shits because THERE WAS REALLY SO MUCH HAPPENING. i appreciated avo but i didn't too AGH I DON'T KNOW. AND BOE 😭 my god boe, i like how headstrong she is but damn girl you still got played at the end, GOODNESS. tbh, boe didn't deserve to be treated like that and i understand her trauma but i also understand night's pain. i just feel like boe shouldn't have just ended up with anyone because i really didn't become attached to avo, he was just... there, even with all the sweet words, i couldn't feel the connection between them, i was even rooting more for night tbh 😭.
ANYWAYS, THAT'S IT. ALL MY THOUGHTS ARE SCATTERED RN AND TBH THIS WAS KINDA TRASHY, if you're looking for a dark romance with a mafia plot and smut scenes and a lot of killings and complicated shit, then this one's for you.
I honestly expected more from Boe. She's crazy... but she's not the feminine rage crazy.. it's more of scattered-brained crazy.
She kinda ate with her butchering skills but like girl why do you have all this money, power, and people only to be played likes that. Granted, she only wanted to have a normal life, like... she's literally just a girl .
Nightly *wolf whistles*. He is so fine, I'll let him haunt me. Bye.
Avo... he's alright. He's just there.
Lorenzo could get a stint in The Queen's Gambit if he quits the mafia boss life or if he didn't get in to that flight. I don't understand chess, don't look at me.
I must say, Boe literally mothered so hard , literally and figuratively.
if u read s1 only, maninibago ka talaga sa s2. it’s very graphic and honestly nahatak ako ni night since sa s2, ang dami niyang cameos. iiric, medyo pa ending na ata nung lumabas si avo. medyo matagal na yung book so understandable na medyo cringey yung nasa wattpad but what i liked about it is that it didn’t stick to the typical wattpad plot. legit talaga mafia with all the graphic scenes. i noticed lang din na medyo inconsistent yung character ni boe. last few chaps also felt rushed pero nevertheless, i enjoyed reading.
This book was one of the books that got me out of my reading slump. It was well-written and every chapter of the book had multiple plot twists that left me questioning everything. Personally, I liked the genre of the book. Even if some characters didn’t deserve what they got in the end, I still loved how it affected me so much. Check tws before you read this book!
gosh i have no words, this was such a good read i feel like my soul was taken away from me. very roller coaster talaga, plot twist after plot twist i feel like not breathing at all.
It's a dark romance and so many violence.. but this is the first time I read that kind of book that's actually thick.. even my classmates in highschool they thought it was some kind of bible 🙈 I really love the story and it was easy to read for me that I didn't know that I could finished it really fast..
just finished reading season 2 bcs i really wanted to know more of lorenzo (since a lot of people said that this book accompanies etg in some way) AND BOY WAS I SURPRISED FOR THE TURN OF EVENTS
season 1 was super predictable and very far off from what happened to season 2. It was unpredictable and it really kept me on my toes up until the epilogue and at the back of my head while reading the most cruel and gruesome shit “why was i even reading this” BCS IT’S VERY UNCOMFORTABLE !
if you read s2 u would really understand why it wasnt published on wp. i just didn’t like how it ended. i wish it didnt end that way but maybe it’s just me. it’s a crazy book.
4.5 stars for me
