Could you reassign—” He paused to look at the worker in front of him and read the name from his hardhat. “—Wilson from the project here on Twelfth St. He’s pursuing a young woman who doesn’t want to hear from him.”I'm torn between wondering if these authors just blindly write what they think will sell without thinking too much about the messages they're sending or if they really do agree with the ideology they communicate. I really, really hope it's the former; otherwise, what this author is saying is that sexual harassment is always the victim's responsibility; it's never the fault of the aggressor. This is akin to telling rape victims that their skirts were too short.
The construction worker immediately paled and began to sputter, “Hey, now there’s no need for any of this. I won’t bother her again.” He backed away from the door and fled down the stairs.
Talos finished his conversation. “No, I don’t think you need to fire him at this time. Thank you, Tom. I appreciate your help. I’ll call you in a couple of hours, and we can meet for lunch to firm up our plans.”
Dropping her head against the clothing, Serena knew this was bad. She’d caused all sorts of trouble. Hearing silence, she peeked up. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
“You put yourself at risk. That is unacceptable,” Talos answered as he walked back over to sit in the chair. “Come here, Serena. You have earned a punishment.”
