Instead of giving a book summary, I’m going to jump right into what I liked and didn’t like about this book.
Likes:
-This was a very interesting, character driven book. The power system and social structure were intriguing and so well thought out.
-i liked how complex the characters were! Very in depth and interesting to read about.
-I liked how many POVs there were. We get an inside glance into each characters head, including the villain! Normally multiple POVs make a book convoluted, but in this case I thought it not only worked, but maybe even added something to the plot!
-I wasn’t bored during the side character povs like I thought I might be! -I especially liked Koden’s pov and the doctor’s pov to see what the lab was like! I thought the knowledge of the lab created a level of dread and tension throughout the book that was needed!
-I adored Chloe and Shawn! Very interesting and tormented characters! Both were foils for Tess-the mc.
Dislikes:
-most of the danger the characters were in turned out to be not a big deal? Idk things felt more low stakes because often times the tension would dissipate without any of the threatened danger actually happening. I was entertained the whole time, but I was never gripping my seat.
-I wish I got to see more of the powers!
-I wanted more to happen in this book! It felt like a really well written prequel to the real action!
-No second book yet?? (Cries)
Waiting and wishing for a second book, and kudos to the author for creating something beautiful! She should be super proud of herself!

Loved it! I am a little biased because I know the author! However, I LOVED the story, and fell in love with one of the characters (Shawn). I appreciate his core nature. He is TRULY good, while believing he can’t be redeemed. I loved the depth he represented.

Fun Ride
This young author has real potential to go somewhere and many years to get there. The novel shows an ability and talent beyond her years. Story is fast paced and characters are deep. Overall, the plot is creative and the world is fully built. Looking forward to see how far this young talent will go.

I greatly enjoyed this book, can't wait for the next one. My favorite character is Chloe.
