Oak River Boys #3

Who's Been a Bad Boy

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of ASIN B08VFJH923

Can you love someone so much you don’t want to show it to everybody?

There are two simple facts in Lucas Sanchez’s life. One: he dates Kevin, the cutest guy at school. And two: his brother is a douchebag. But when the douchebag finds a way to blackmail him, Lucas needs to take desperate actions that take him farther away from Kevin.

Who's Been a Bad Boy is a sweet romance and the third novel in Jay Argent’s Oak River Boys series. It continues the story about the kind of love that isn’t always easy but definitely worth fighting for.

Readable, but not on a par with Jay's earlier works.

Okay, so it's not one of Jay's better books in my opinion. There is several typos in the story - e.g one referring to Jorge as a "dumpass" , and another where "Kevin puts his hands on Kevin's shoulders" to name but two, which serve as a mild annoyance. For me the plot, whilst it could have been believable just lacked any real direction and drama at times. There was a lot of 'masturbation' throughout the story which just felt like a way of padding it out, and it became very repetitive and old quickly. It did get a tad confusing at one point with Lucas looking for his brothers laptop, when realistically Jorge doesn't strike me as the kind of person that would be backing up his phone to his computer. It does kind of become clear that Lucas was hoping he'd have a cloud storage setup or at the very least be able to find any backups and delete them, but again this felt a bit like a filler in the story to draw it out. Personally I am not sure where the story of Kevin and Lucas could go now without it feeling contrived. Maybe the story of Kevin and Lucas has come to it's natural conclusion?!

Honestly this book has the same plot structure as the last book, just swapping out the character names... (Also there was an obscene amount of typos in this book swapping the charcater names - not that the others didn't have that it just happened a lot in this one)

It really felt like a regression for the same narrative points to come up - another black-mailing plotline which causes the boys to break up yet again, not in the same way or that would be too blatant but very similar.

And despite the boys seemingly having very different personalities, they handle it in an extremely similar way as well. The book seems unnecessary at this point and for what it tried to, it has wasted potential - there was so many other routes the author could take to deal with Jorge, whos a hindrance turned criminal, that wouldn't involve a blackmail plotline.

At least the subplots werent exxatly the same.

The book had the same issue with repeating stuff and felt drawn out to me but that could be because if the familiarity of the plot.

As the third book in the Oak River Boys series, I enjoyed the story. However, for me, the premise of this story was similar to that in the second book of the series, blackmail. Since the two lead characters had already dealt with an overcame blackmail in book #2, I found it slightly redundant that they were once again in a similar situation. I did like how the boy's connection was strong enough that they were able to realize something wasn't quite right with the other's behavior, but if that bond was strong enough to recognize that something was a miss, why didn't they confide in one another when the blackmail began.

So I really have enjoyed this series. It was short and cute. However, this was the weakest of the three. It felt way different than the first two and I really didn’t like how icky It got. I was hoping for some real closure with Kevin’s mom which we kinda got, but I want more. Also, I need to know if Lucas‘s brother is going to have some real consequences. I hope there’s a fourth book because I have so many unanswered questions.

Excellent young m4m book

I really enjoyed all 3 books in this series. I hated Jorge and blame his parents for not kicking his asx out. Kevin’s mother was a witch but I believe eventually she came around. The boys shared a bond and a relationship that hopefully flourished with time. It was a great series to read but sometimes the plot repeated itself in a different way. I recommend reading this book if you are interested in some good drama and good laughs.

The Oak River a boys series is absolutely amazing and a very relatable story. I couldn’t put this book down. It is nice to see a gay romance story that isn’t all about sex and has an amazing story. I look forward to the next book in this series. Jay Argent is a masterful author and I am always excited to read a new book by him!!

acceptance

Final book in the series. I had issues with the brothers relationship. I guess there can be a tolerable toxic member of the family that goes unchecked? Overall, the series was ok. Just remember to keep the doors locked. 3.0 for sleepovers.

Love the characters in previous parts of the series but the ending of this one just dropped me flat and disappointed me greatly.

One of the best M4M Romance series

This is one of the best gay romance series I've ever read. This third book wrapped things up nicely, but also made me want another book. Jay Argent is one of my favorite gau romance authors.

Another Great Story 👍

I don't know how Jay Argent can dream up such a wild tale. I found it hard to put down and really enjoyed all the twists and turns.
