"Who am I? What is my purpose? What is my life all about?" These are questions Christian men are asking all over the world. Why is this? It is because there is something stirring deep within their being, telling them that there is more that God wants to show them about Himself and there is more of Him that they desperately need in order to answer those questions. The Journey to the Inner Chamber is a creative novel that introduces a path of discovery that will lead the reader to the answer for many of those questions.
This book was handed to me right about the time that I got fed up with being a sideline, unengaged, spectator Christian. In my heart I've always wanted to follow Christ but didn't know what that looked like in the real world or even how to begin.
Having read this book, my journey to becoming an Influencer in God's kingdom has begun. I have learned to become a self-feeder of His word and am learning to trust Him and love Him more with every passing day. More importantly, I am learning to abide in Him. My spiritual training has begun in ernest and I thank Rocky Fleming for discipling and mentoring me in this.
I suggest you stop waiting for someone to come along and take you under their wing as I did for so long. Read this book. Then take the first step on your journey to intimacy with the lover of your soul. He's been waiting for you and can't wait to hear from you.
I confess I have mixed feelings about this book. I agree with the author's objective which is to call men to go deeper in their relationship with Christ. Rocky Fleming uses an allegory in the first half of the book to teach the basic truth of a believer's surrender to Christ and then his growth in the school of discipleship. The role of Influencers is pivotal in the believer's progress. I found some of this allegorical teaching insightful. I particularly appreciated the emphasis on self-feeding.
The second half of the book completes the story of the main character's transformation through his interaction with a Christ follower named Gabe. In Gabe we see the fruits of a life well-lived in the service of the King. Gabe represents someone who has reached the Inner Chamber and communes regularly with Christ. This should be the goal of every believer.
This book works well as a discussion guide for interaction in a small group. Men can benefit greatly from this sort of study. Unfortunately, I feel the book could benefit from a rewrite or a more thorough editing process. I found myself distracted by a number of grammatical errors, which obscured the book's laudable objectives. At times great ideas floundered due to weak writing skills. With that said I still feel many Christian men need to hear the core message of this book.
Re-read as I'll be starting to go through the course again this fall. The recent update makes the writing style better. There is still a lack of depth to the characters, but for the purposes of this story, I think it is ok. Updating to 4 stars.
2012 Review Doing this book along with the course was ok. His points are good, but writing style and grammar leave much to be desired.
Aiming to be a Bunyanesque allegory pointing Christians to an ever-deeper walk with and surrender to Christ, this book makes good points but in a story not as compellingly told.
Its message of utter surrender and utter trust is one we cannot hear too often, and for that reason I’m glad to have read “The Journey to the Inner Chamber.”
This book The Journey to the Inner Chamber: Discovering the Treasure of the Universe has literally been a life changer. It's changed my life, and it's also been working to change the course of my family as well. God has used this book to reach me in a way that no preached message ever has, and since He's used this book to reach me He's opened my spiritual ears even more to hear His voice in my pastor and other preachers. If you're looking for a book to challenge you and to help you figure out where you are in your relationship with God...then I highly recommend this book.
I've since joined a Men's meeting where I've had the privilege of meeting, speaking to, and hearing the author Rocky Fleming speak out some of his personal testimony. I'm also going through the 9-12 month course as a couple with my wife and a few other couples.
Influencers.org has really become a catalyst for what God's been wanting to speak to me and use me to do.
This book is presented as an allegory of the Christian life. The book has two parts. In the first part a Christian man sees a vision that represents the Christian life (i.e., the process of salvation and sanctification) and in the second part the Christian man experiences the evidences of that allegory and takes a "journey to the inner chamber" as he comes in contact with an "influencer" named Gabe.
This book is dangerous for many reasons. But, to keep it short, the book teaches an incorrect view of sanctification. The book presents the Christian life in terms similar to "higher life" or Keswick theology. Although the protagonist is a Christian, he has to reach a place where he finally submits to "personal abandonment and absolute trust" (53) to be the man God's wants him to be (12). This process is depicted by the Christian man making his way through a castle in which he traverses various rooms until finally making his way to "the inner chamber."
Two additional problems found in this book are its mystic portrayal of the Christian life (e.g., visions and the idea of listening with the heart and not the mind) and its low view of the church (e.g., the "influencer" affects change in the believers life, not the local church).

My neighbor gave this book to me over a year go, and I hestitated to read it, thinking the title sounded a bit New-agey. But as I started reading, I got sucked into the story, and really enjoyed it. The first part of the book is Bunyan-esque in its allegorical depiction of the Christian walk, while the second part was a gripping realistic story that details the character's own growth in his journey with Christ. Frankly, the two parts of the book seemed a bit disjointed, like the first part of the book should have been a mini booklet, and the second half should have been a separate novel. But outside that main criticism, Fleming gives a lot of great analogies and convicting quotes from the book that made me reflect on my own walk with Christ, and whether I truly trust Him enough to enter "the Inner Chamber". I can see why certain men (and women) throughout the wolrd have decided to go through this book together. The doctrine contained within the book is solid, and the tale is gripping. I give it a 4.5 out of 10.
This is certainly a book. The content is fine, good even, but…
My kingdom for an editor. Used the wrong mote/moat, waste/waist, hue/hew. Writing style needs improvement.
The section with the vision/allegory was a cumbersome read. As a member of the audience this book is for, It was pretty on the nose and obvious what the allegory meant. It required little explanation, much less an explanation after almost every paragraph. I also laughed out loud when Messenger starts quoting Ephesians in ALL CAPS.
Story of Gabe was cool, though I had to go back and reread to find the point at which the author made his Inner Chamber decision. Also non-prescriptive, as the way he got there is generally not possible for half the child-having population. A mother would never.
All of this is to be expected from an amateur writer with their own vanity press. The book is fine, maybe even worthwhile, but far from the life-changing experience I was promised.
As a follower of Christ it is important that we grow. A newborn cannot eat a fish or a burger, however as the years go by they mature. Likewise as we grow in Christ we have to start off with baby steps and food until we mature in Him as well.
Rocky’s story here showed those steps of learning taking place. The Journey to the inner chamber for some maybe a short time span while for others a lifetime.
The end result will never be “I made it,” but it will be seen after my passing when people can say, “Look at those his life in Christ affected.”
I know this will be a book I shall keep close and read again, and again. Praise the Lord for His feast in the Inner Chamber.
I saw the title of this book mentioned in a Bible plan I was going through on You Version. I purchased a copy for my youngest son not really knowing what it entailed. I wanted him to have it by the time he received copies of the Bible plan in the mail. He started reading it and could not say enough about it so I got a copy for myself. Reading it really made me realize I have a lot of growing in my spiritual walk with my Savior Jesus Christ. I need to be in God's Word more and in prayer with Him more. I need to work on my self feeding. I highly recommend it.
A must read for all Christians no matter where they are in their own journey!
This book is a Spiritual gift! It explains the importance of continued spiritual development after becoming a Christian and points us towards the ultimate prize, a personal relationship with our Saviour, through which your life should display for all Jesus who resides within us!
I didn't like it... It sounds like a pseudo-spiritual testimony. It's a cool devotional experience if that's what you are into. I prefer logical-philosophical, and it had not much deep thinking, even if I don't doubt this was a deep experience for the author. I added a star to my rating for him being a devoted Christian. 🤙
I really enjoyed this book and I really love everything Rocky did in this and shared. However, I just wish there was more scripture. I give it a 4.9 just wish there was more scripture. Was a really easy and fun read and I’m really happy my dad has loved this. I love the call to go deeper, I’m ready
What a fabulous read! A must for anyone struggling with submitting themselves fully to the LORD! Christianity at its fullest, rich in GODs word, and a great example of discipleship! What does the LORD call us to! To abide In him and trust!
Rocky Fleming‘s “The Journey to the Inner Chamber” is a story about one man’s faith journey toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. I was disappointed that baptism wasn’t incorporated in the story. Other than that, the book is an interesting and quick read.
I could not put this book down. Deep spiritual mattes put into simplified stories. A phenomenally mesmerizing story that leads you and challenges you to take a deep look at your own spiritual journey.
A great book to read when you get stuck in your walk of faith. It is a quick read, but a full meal of thoughts and a stream of fulfillment to think about for years to come.
This book will have you captured it like you are on this journey with the writer .I felt like I was right in the book. Its a life changer. Couldn't put it down.
I am in a nine month long Bible study journey with a wonderful group of women. This was the first of many books I will be reading for that purpose.
It’s obvious to me that this really was a study built for men, in the allegories used to describe God, his love, and His kingdom. It felt a bit like a C.S. Lewis book at first. I LOVED all the analogies and how it painted a picture for me on discipleship and what it means to be “self-feeding” when it comes to being a Christ follower, learning God’s word. All in all it is an excellent tool to be used alongside your studying of the Bible, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store in this study!
Amazing Book. If your heart is connected in intimacy with the LORD, you will understand the author words and their deep meaning in a context of friendship and love relationship with Jesus.
