21st-Century Gardening

Invasive Plants: (Weeds of the Global Garden

Rate this book
Scores of prized horticultural plants brought to North America from other continents have jumped the garden gate and escaped into the natural landscape. These invasive weeds are driving out indigenous species, and in the worst cases are radically altering native ecosystems. Scientists consider them one of the top three threats to the biodiversity of wildlands. This ground-breaking guide helps you identify the worst invasives in your area - and tells you what to do about them to help preserve the native plants and animals that are disappearing from our land and lives.

I'm researching what plants I do and do not want to put in our garden at home. I'd like to have a native garden, but an important part of native gardens is knowing what isn't native, so I'm doing research on both native and invasive plants. This book is too broad to really have been helpful. It covers the whole of the US, when I really only need to know about the Chicagoland area. And, being as short as it is, it doesn't cover many plants anyway, let alone plants I need to worry about in my yard. More localized research will be required.
