So it's all out heroes vs monsters as the assault / rescue attempt ratchets up! The interesting focus on specific combats in this volume finally reveals some of the heroes' techniques and style that had yet to be detailed. Overall a lot less humour in this one, plus over the top humour via Puri-Puri. Can't wait to get back to non combat storytelling as this volume was almost wall-2-wall fighting! A 7 out of 12 Three Stars.

EN Unfortunately, the release pace of this series in Portugal remains extremely slow. To give you an idea, I read the previous volume back in early May — six months ago already. That’s far too long and really breaks the reading flow.

Even so, One Punch Man remains one of my favourite series: incredibly fun and perfect for lifting your spirits.

The most mesmerizing moments here are highlighted in Saitama's battle as the artwork continues to turn those creatures into epic beings from hell until Saitama ridicules it all.

The volume is split between multiple different confrontations as they put an end to some villains allowing the story to move on to much more interesting battles to come.

I'll review up to chapter 181, which seems to be the most current one. I don't know if it will fall in this volume, but it doesn't matter. That's part of my problem with this series nowadays, that it doesn't fucking matter.

The author of this series started with an anti-narrative concept that you just have to admire him for: making a world of superheroes in which the protagonist is so strong that he can kill anybody with a single punch. What tension do you wring out of such a story? How can you have conflict? He focused on the psychological aspects of the absurd protagonist: he hasn't found the flow for a long, long time. He doesn't see the point in trying hard for anything, and is generally dysthymic in an uncaring way. There’s also plenty to develop regarding everybody else’s reaction to him and how they deal with a man in their community that nobody could stop, and that could kill anybody he wished. The actual arc of this series is told in what encompasses the first season of the anime. As far as I'm concerned, Saitama's story ended after the fight against his antithesis Boros (the alien who had spent decades travelling through space trying to find someone that was worth fighting, because his life seemed meaningless otherwise), when the protagonist realized that yes, he might be unstoppable and that gets annoying, but he can do good for people and find friends while earning some respect and money along the way.

Deep into the rest of the series so far, we've been focusing on a dozens of chapters long conflict between a team of monsters and a team of heroes. We've met dozens of characters, many of them absurd, charming and sometimes interesting, but for any of it to matter, the author needs to keep the protagonist occupied so he can’t solve the problem immediately; in the case of these last twenty chapters or so, Saitama is literally lost and separated from the main fight.

I come back to this series periodically to read the half a dozen chapters that have come out in the meantime. Only for generally bland entertainment, though; the drawings and the fights are tremendous, but the plot cannot handle its concept anymore. It's sad to see Saitama, one of the most recognizable characters of manga/anime in the last decade, turned into a minor character in his own story.

In my numerous reviews for the series “I Am a Hero”, which sadly I finished a few days ago, I mentioned that the Japanese have a penchant for telling the main story of a series in the first eight to ten volumes or so, and then move on to systemizing both the inevitable peculiarity of one of the main characters, as well as the conceptual problem or situation. In this case the peculiarity is the protagonist’s completely unexplained, and unexplainable, unstoppability. The author chose to give it an explanation, which screws everything up. Apparently when anyone pushes their mental and physical abilities to an almost superhuman level, they push their “limiter” further. Saitama was supposedly so hardcore that he completely broke through. The problem is that we saw what the protagonist went through, and it wasn’t remotely as much as what many later characters introduced experienced, so it breaks Saitama’s uniqueness as well as the internal logic of the series.

Not much else to be said: great fights, entertaining character moments, the women are generally gorgeous (Fubuki in particular; I need me some VR version of that ), Saitama is funny and ridiculous as usual. But if you aren’t like me, who can mindlessly follow a manga series 181 chapters in, just watch the first season of the anime, produced by one of the best animation studios in the world (link to an example from the show), and avoid the second and likely other following seasons, that for scheduling reasons were given to another studio that couldn’t compete with the first neither in resources nor in talent.

Not exactly what I have expected in this volume, but One-Punch Man Vol.22 has a chunk of quiet, heartful moments. They weren't quite that enotionally effective for me, but such breaks from action is a breather brings a lot in charecter development to both Child Emperor and Saitama.

The two lesser fights in this volume are fun and short, but nothing out of the extraordinary to remember.

This book continues to drift further and further away from its roots as a comedy with a dude called One Punch Man. Not sure why we've been in the monster lair for like 10 volumes.

This volume spends most of it's time with Child Emperor fighting Resurrected Phoenix Man and it's not just a physical fight. Resurrected Phoenix Man tries to appeal to Child Emperor's intellect, inner darkness and how unappreciated he feels by the adult heroes. It's an interesting twist and it does change the stakes. then spoiler, spoiler, spoiler. -Saitama is back in this one and Child Emperor still has no idea who he really is or what he can do, so nothing new there.

The story pivots to Zombieman who says "I'm not good at fighting. My specialties are espionage, intelligence and investigating contaminated areas." He then proceeds to be good at fighting in one of the gorier fights they've included in a while. It's great.

Pig God is teased for 2 pages, so I'm wondering if we'll see that fight in Vol 23? We get a little more of Amai Mask being super sketchy and quite sociopathic. My respect for Iaian goes up in this last section and Bushi Drill and Okama Itachi show that they are learning by example from both Iaian and Atomic Samurai. - All in all a very entertaining volume and the plot does move (even slowly) forward towards saving Waganma as he's in Child Emperor's care still.

Well, Saitama finally appeared for a few pages and helped out Child Emperor. The whole Child Emperor fight was interesting with the Phenix costume monster tempting the kid.
The Zombie vs vampire was not that inspiring, nothing new there.
Most of the heroes in this volume were more or less an aspect of Saitama and I would have been happy to just have him deliver the dialog.

4.5 stars rounded down.

The Heroes Association and the Villians Society are still locked in an all-out battle, Child Emperor must face his own darkness when facing a villain/monster, plus Zombie Man must face down a bunch of villains and a powerful vampire, plus Amiai Mask shows an unexpected side...?

Another fast-paced volume filled with awesom battle scenes! I really like Child Emperor's interaction with One Punch Man!!! And how OPM scolded the villain: "You should be ashamed of yourself!" ^__^

How to flip the bird(man)

With Waganma secured by Child Emperor the now resurrected Phoenix Man is back and even stronger as he is now able to not only take on the power of whatever bird his costume takes the form of but also allows him to take others into a metaphysical world between user and costumes where spirits once met ages ago (shamanism One Punch style.) Already feeling underappreciated and unsure of there is a mole in the hero association Child Emperor's opponent is more then capable of attacking his psyche as his physical body while conflicts erupt through out t he underground monster labyrinth.

Also within this volume you see Zombieman showing how insanely hard fighting a hero who can never truly die can be and a little more insight in how dangerous A class hero Amai Mask can be when an old villain returns with her minions. Of course as always the art is amazing (especially considering the original source) and has its fill of huge multi page fight panels making it a short read though the characters continue to entertain.

As always my only real regret is although Saitama is also in the sewers along with the other heroes he is so powerful that if he was actively taking out threats the books would have a lot less action and a lot more scared monsters so he is regulated to careless voyager in the underground passages because he wants to stop all the racket he hears up above. Darn noisy kids! Well at least he gets some action in this manga though no serious action. I can hardly wait to see him take on the big bad assuming he even gets to him. This is a book primarily about Saitama right? :)

One-Punch Man, Vol. 22 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next five chapters (102–106) of the on-going manga series with a bonus story.

The tankōbon continues the Monster Association Arc and concludes the fight between the Child Emperor and Phoenix Man, who has the powers of resurrecting into a more powerful being. Child Emperor is tested to his limits, but manages to defeat him and manages to rescue Waganma, the son of Narinki, a high-raking executive and one of the primary sponsors of the Hero Association.

The middle chapter focuses on Zombieman and his battle against Vampire from the Monster Association. While the last two chapters are focused on Iaian, Bushidrill, and Okkamaitachi – disciples of Atomic Samurai who witness the battle of Sweet Mask vs. Do-S and the aftermath of the unseen battle between Pig God vs. The Great Food Tub. Meanwhile Saitama is just wondering around lost looking for a good battle to fight and finding none.

This tankōbon is written by One and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. The tankōbon continues the battle with the Monster Association, which seems like it is taking forever. The focus is divided on many battles happening simultaneously, which gives the grandness of the fight, but it is getting slightly tiresome. However, it is nice to see other heroes show their abilities as if Saitama is in the middle of the fight it would end too quickly – with just a punch.

All in all, One-Punch Man, Vol. 22 is a good continuation to a new series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

One punch man 22

All about Kid emperor in the first half, going up against the phoenix. More of a come to the dark side recruitment than a fight, with Saitama standing ready, intervening when necessary and getting them out of there. Bad move from the rich kid. Second half was all Zombieman vs the vampire and the minions that waited after. That guy is one of the best S classes. Ah. Nope. Amai mask was in there as well, almost offing the brainwashed. Curious about his origins.

I really liked this one. Child Emperor and Zombieman are great characters, and I lamented while reading previous volumen that we hadn't spent that much time with them. This satiated my craving. And the short interaction between those two, that gave Child Emperor the motivation to keep doing good, was heartwarming.

The Child emperor arc was really well done . I really felt nervous about his safety and man zombie-man is so cool. I wish we got to see his fight with Vampire in full . The Amai Mask intrigue is quite fascinating. And Saitama has finally joined the battle

The sigh of relief I let out when Saitama finally appeared again in this series. I missed him, even though he had a small role in this installment. Also, I think Zombieman might be one of my favorite characters from this series. I liked seeing his powers up close and personal.

I really love the direction that the story is going in. Seeing Tatsumaki go all out against Psychos was amazing. I can't wait for new chapters. I really want to see a "real" Amai Mask fight.

Very much enjoyed getting into this one. I feel like there was a lot of character development solely through fight scenes which is pretty rare.
