In The Flower Hunter , Lucy Hunter takes us on an inspirational journey through a year in her garden and artist’s studio set among the mountains of North Wales.Lucy's evocative, gently humorous words accompany her glorious photographs and exquisite floral arrangements, as she encourages the reader to marvel at the intricate cycles of the natural world, develop their own innate creativity, and to look for beauty in the everyday. Her garden provides the raw materials for Lucy's floral artistry—breathtaking naturalistic arrangements with all the painterly beauty and flourish of a Dutch still life. Simple projects accompany Lucy’s text, from drying garden flowers for an autumnal wreath to making your own journals and natural dyes to assembling lavish arrangements that showcase the voluptuous beauty of garden roses. Lucy believes that we all have a creative voice buried deep within. The Flower Hunter will encourage you to find your own creativity and help it to blossom.
Though the photographs are lovely, they are somewhat repetitive and not likely to be relevant to a non-professional. 3 stars. To my surprise, it was the text that impressed me. The author writes movingly of her joy in the natural world and her pleasure in it is infectious. 5 stars.
Such a gorgeous book! Her work is exquisite. From painting backdrops, flower arranging, to photo styling, fabric dyeing, photography, Lucy Hunter does it all. I liked her easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions for the 5 projects and felt they were realistically do-able. Oh, and even more importantly, her text was interesting and fun to read. Note to self: find hellebore Ivory Prince and Ranunculus bulbs!! Quite inspiring.
Loved the pictures. Very exquisite! Good instruction for making flower arrangements. Not very meaty as far as words though; not a how-to book for gardening. A great coffee table book. Absolutely stunning flower arrangement photographs.
This is exactly what I'm looking for in my books on floral design and flower farming/cut flower growing -- stunning photography, thoughtful essays on creativity, and plenty of inspiration to keep my excitement and mojo going throughout not just the growing season, but the entire year.
What a beautiful book! The photographs are stunning, but the book also has helpful how to advice as well as words of wisdom. As much about life as about flowers...I loved it!
3.5 stars. BEAUTIFUL seasonal arrangements. Just felt like the author was a bit unrelatable—super successful at everything she tried but just was looking for something else so now arranges flowers.
