Ultimate Grimdork: A Glitchworld Original

Rate this book
A film director with limitless ambition and an AI production system. What could possibly go wrong?

Three aspiring actors sign up for what they think is a sweet gig: inside a premier AI TV production, fully immersed in their roles, capable of filming an entire season in mere days. But the director has bigger dreams, and when he removes the last safeguards restraining the AI system, all hell breaks loose. Grimdark wants more than talking dogs and hackneyed lines from second rate B-listers; it wants to tell the best stories available. It wants everyone in the system. Through clown orgies, system lag, spooky p-p-p-pirate ghosts and Ruby's Rack, with the system watching and listening their every move, do they stand any chance of stopping it?

"It's all in the wrist, I assure you!" - quote from the book

I read this book as part of an ARC and received a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
The action starts right from the first page. And then you realize that it was just a movie they were filming. The book is kind of split into two parts. Real-life and life on a set where everything is controlled by an AI aka Grimdork. And when Grimdork decides to film them 24/7, the action explodes. Grace, Slade, and Kirrk are all under Mister Dark's control. The more time passes, everything becomes mixed up and jumbled in their minds. At first, Felipe, their director, is delighted, thinking he would pick up the FART award :) Huge mistake.
But Grimdork has a plan of its own. They will encounter every type of villain you can imagine. From your run-of-the-mill bad guys to fighter jets, to zombies, this book has it all. Of course, you can't escape from an AI that controls everything without outside help.
And like with any good action movie, everything finishes into a huge explosion, resulting in a "trillion-dollar wreck". If you read the book, you'll know the meaning ;)
Fair warning: it has strong and explicit language.

This author duo never fails to surprise me. This is only the second book in this genre that I have read and didn’t think I would be so engrossed! So, we have the three main characters who are all trying to make a TV show, along with their talking doggy friend. The director wants more….and he gets it! By removing the safeguards, he exposes the world to AI gone rogue! The premise of the whole book is awesome. I mean, its intricate and perfectly intertwined with the usual choice language thrown in.

Hanson and Locke manage to skirt the line between totally vulgar and hilarious so easily that it’s pretty much a masterpiece. The main note I have with this book, (and previous works by these authors) is the description is utterly amazing. People may think that this is all style and no substance, but it truly is not. It is well written, insightful and I was really rooting for the characters to stop the system! I am really looking forward to future works by this team and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

Immersive and Funny

This is the second book I have read by this author and as I get more knowledgeable about this genre, I enjoyed this one even more than Douchemage. The descriptions of people and situations are so funny and clever, it makes me laugh even thinking back to them now. I challenge anyone to come up with as many different ways of describing a hero's square jawline! The characters are less than perfect (yes even the heroes), which I love, the plot is exciting and the Bad Guy (if you can call the system that!) is unforgiving! Totally recommend this thrilling Lit RPG.

A fantastic story line in a grimdork world!
The plot involves three main characters and their esteemed talking canine friend Beau, as they traverse the gaming world, fighin Dark the evil -brought to life- computer director, who is pushing far too many buttons with dire consiquences!
The story is ingenious the language hilariously vulgar, but just to the right taste and keeps you reading until the very last page. It was an enjoyable read from start to end.

A very strange book. Project Grimdork is about actors in a VR world that live in a superhero theme. Soon the AI goes evil, and the actors are in for more than they signed on for. This was a very gritty and funny read. The characters were likeable overall, and the story kept my attention.
