A multigenerational tale of the heroic Joestar family and their never-ending battle against evil!
The legendary Shonen Jump series is now available in deluxe hardcover editions featuring color pages! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a groundbreaking manga famous for its outlandish characters, wild humor and frenetic battles.
Not too long ago, Giorno Giovanna was just an ordinary hoodlum, but now he dreams of being something bigger… He dreams of being a true mafioso! Giorno is ready to join one of the most dangerous gangs in town, and the first step is learning everything he can about their operations. The second step is gathering the friends and allies he’ll need in order to take control of the gang for himself!
Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.
He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.
This is an action packed volume. After the death of a certain character our new gang set off to uncover a 600 Million Yen fortune hidden somewhere on the island of Capri. Different people have different motivations for getting the money but everyone wants it. Soon we are thrown into a high stakes chase on a boat followed by a Stand enhanced cat and mouse game of the island. The story is a lot of fun and goes along at quite the pace. The art work is pretty good but it is often quite hard to tell what is actually going on during the action scenes and as there are so many action scenes in this volume it has a rather large impact on the story hence my relatively low rating. So far I'm not sold on Part 5 but there is some promise in various characters so I have hopes that it will get better.
"Bruno Bucciarati? Is that you? I'm here to accept the 600 million yen!"
"Huh?"
"Bow! All of you! This gentleman is Mr. Pericolo--a Passione Capo! I sent word to him when we reached the island. He's come all the way here to accept the money."
Having started the Golden Wind saga of Hirohiko Araki's long-running manga series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, I was curious to see where the story was going. This second edition carries on the tradition of the first: (1) Arrive on the scene, (2) pout and pose, (3) FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!, (4) receive minimal information to move to new scene to repeat the cycle: pout and pose, FIGHT! FIGHT!, receive enough information, advance to the next scene. Obviously, there's no narrative unity in this work; it's a sprawling soap opera which, given its nature, never really works on conclusions. With this formulaic cycle, the story can continue forever.
So we have a group of mafioso consisting of pretty androgenous teens each with quirky super powers working their way up the criminal chain of command in Italy--and the treasure is calculated in Yen. It makes no sense. As I noted in the first book, the action sequences here are even harder to decipher--especially the battle on a boat. And yet, here I am reviewing it.
I'll probably stop at this point simply because I do not have access to the next volume. I think I understand the appeal, but old timey me needs to retreat back to the graphic narratives of DC or Marvel. JoJo's neon glare is blinding and it's frantic tempo often leaves me in the dust. I'll admit it: Tis good stuff...but it's stuff for younger, more patient folk than I.
The characters and stands are pretty fantastic. Great fights, and some much needed character exposition happens to endear us to the crew. The plot isn't doing much for me, and I don't love the setting. Curious to see how it goes and to see how Araki develops the big bad.
I think I'm starting to see why this part is so popular. I really like Giorno and this is a fun group of side characters. I'm hoping this part turns out a little heisty, but we will see
- the names in this part are... unique. i lost hope in memorizing them. at least each character's design is different. - the stand moody jazz is perfect for late night regrets sessions. - it's weird that the word "stand" is known among the italian characters who never came in contact with the joestar family to know the name - is it in the translation itself, and was named something else by them in this part? - i would've like to see what they would call these powers
The main reason for wanting to read this was because many of my students are obsessed with this series and I thought that I should understand what they are talking about. I see it now; this series is full of weird not-so bizarre adventures, merely revenge and action which is almost Shakespearean. The illustrator of this manga is as if Tarantino has learnt this Japanese art, as this artist is able to capture the wide range of angles that the scene carry out with all of the vivid scenes of abstract horror you would see in action manga scenes. I would recommend this for older readers 15+ due to its graphic content.
7. The art style for Part 5 so far is simply phenomenal. It’s been really cool watching Araki’s art evolve over the different parts. As for the volume itself, this one was pretty enjoyable. Bucciarati, Narancia & Mista getting their own fights was great! I can’t wait to see more of Giorno’s fights though.

1. Soft Machine's whole "there's TWO boats" is just stupid. 2. Props to the voice actors for making Bucciarati's gang likeable 3. I love Mista's Sex Pistols, I wanna protect Five so bad :p 4. Trish! Trish! Trish! Trish! Trish! Trish! TRISHHHHH!!!!!

Volume two only improves on volume one, these hardcover 2in1 editions are fantastic, so much story in such a small book! The storytelling is fast paced and incredibly done! This is really a master at work, it’s funny, high stakes and damn bizarre
this book did not pick up until mista went after that dude and started to shoot at him. the first third of the story dragged with the guys disappearing and coming back.
This volumes brings us the appearance of Mista’s, Abbacchio’s, Narancia’s stands! Sets off a really interesting group of main characters. Even tho the first fight was hella confusing, it was readable. Really good volume
So Koichi just disappears? What was the point of investigating Giorno???
Anyway, I think Mista is my favorite of the group. Love those little shithead bullets. They’re too cute lol.
So this is book 2/9 for part 5 and honestly, I’m not impressed. I loved all the previous parts of JJBA but not this??? It hurts my heart to even type that, I swear! Maybe, I’ll watch the anime?
