Was a 3.5 till the last few chapters. Pat ending to tie up all the loose threads and wrapped up way too quick. Could have used a bit more....and no idea what the MFC and MMC saw in each other, never really developed that at all...
This was a bit of a departure from typical Caitlyn O'Leary and I LOVED that! This book does have a SEAL as our male lead and a strong, independent woman as our female lead as is typical of Ms. O'Leary's books, where Home Again took a departure is that it has a feeling of a mystery story instead of just a romantic thriller. I wish there were more clues in the story that would have allowed the readers to uncover the secrets instead of just revealing all in the epilogues, but I very much enjoyed the change up on the standard military hero romance. While I thought Gianna and Sebastian where great main characters the real stars are their friends Jada and Gideon, who apparently are getting a book in 2022! I also loved the Bayou crew. All in all a great outing that changed things up enough to remain interesting. Well done! Now I want to go back and read about the other guys from the airport (which is really the whole point of this series, right?). I received an ARC for my honest review of this book.
Home Again is the fourth out of five books in the Long Road Home series. Each book is written by a different author, but it’s also one of the first books I’ve read by Caitlyn and I can say I absolutely LOVED it😍
Sebastian is a Navy SEAL who finds himself going to Louisiana, the place he spent most of his teenage years but left as soon as he turned eighteen and could enlist. He’s going to get answers from his grandfather finally and this is the only reason he’s going back. When he arrives he meets Gianna and it soon becomes clear they are on a similar path but they are also attracted to each other. When the answers they both seek endanger Gianna, Sebastian is on board to find her and save her🤩
A great story that kept me glued to the pages and trying to turn the pages as quickly as possible, but I’ve also got a hankering to dive into Caitlyn’s other stories as soon as I can❣️
This story was full of suspense and mystery, right from the beginning. Then Sebastian meets Gianna and they come to realize that they have so much in common.
But as the story progresses they find that many things are getting in their way of trying to unravel their mysteries. In the end what it comes down to is that family is not always those that have blood ties.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
When Sebastian Durand left home to join the Navy at 18 he had no plans on ever coming home. After getting a letter from his grandfather with a promise of answers to what happened to his parents he did the one thing that he never thought he would do, go home. Gianna came to the Durand home to get answers to what happened to her mother. Sebastian and Gianna may have come looking for answers but what they found was something neither of them expected.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author and voluntarily read and reviewed.
Fantastic! With a little different slant, Sebastian is not on a mission to a foreign country with his Seal Team, he is on his own mission with help from some of his Seal Team members to find answers. Sebastian is determined to find the answers into his parents’ deaths so many years ago and he has come home to Louisiana to delve into his Grandpere’s political dealings where he is sure to find the answers he has been looking for since he was a child. A story of secrets and lies. This is heartfelt with Sebastian’s love for his lifelong friend, Ophelia, and what home means to him. He also finds a quirky, beautiful woman, Gianna, who is also looking for answers of her own. Together, Sebastian and Gianna embark on a dangerous mission, surprisingly connected with questions and answers intertwined by the secrets of the bayou and complicated by their sizzling chemistry. Full of suspense and intrigue, I love this story and couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
The story and characters were under developed. Nothing was cohesive and the ending was just there. I felt the writing and dialogue was low level. Very disappointed. I’ve loved all of these books.
This book opens as Sebastian Durand travels home to Louisiana, a place he never thought he'd return to. To say he has family problems is an understatement, but his Grandpère Lazar Durand has promised him answers, and he intends to get them one way or another. Of course he was traveling during a hurricane so his last flight was cancelled and late so he stayed at the local USO. After renting an SUV he drives the rest of the way to the family estate fighting the winds.
There's no one around when he enters but with all the lights on he knows someone has to be there. He finds his Uncle Armand drunk in the study. He wasn't exactly welcoming either. As he finds himself some food, he gets another surprise as the back door bangs open and a woman soaked from the rain takes one look at him and tries to run. Of course he's not letting her get away. Turns out she's renting the carriage house something that's never been done before.
Gianna Prentiss had come up to the main house to remind Armand to eat, it seems without Lazar in residence he loses track of time and doesn't eat at all. After joining them for a meal, during which Sebastian gets some answers, she protests his escorting her back to the carriage house. There he finds no storm shutters and then insists or rather demands she return to the main house to stay until the storm passes.
This works in Gianna's favor since she really wants to go through Lazar's office to find something to tell her what happened to her mother. She's going about this with her friend Jada on the line and she's under the desk looking for a maker's mark. Unfortunately for her, thats when Sebastian catches her in the act.
here's no denying the attraction between Sebastian and Gianna. They both need to focus on their objectives with the help of Jada and Sebastian's teammate Gideon.
It seems Jada has unearthed much that Sebastian had no idea about and that information just leads to more things to investigate. Of course his Grandpère's return puts not only a kink in those plans but adds a few new ones.
I couldn't put this book down, there's a lot going on and even more behind the scenes, as well as some sizzling heat with Gianna and Sebastian.
I'm definitely going to read the other books making up the Long Road Home series as well as Kostya and Gideon's stories coming in a new series Omega Sky in 2022!
Home Again by Caitlyn O’Leary is the fourth book in the multi author Long Road Home series and readers who have read the first three stories will recognise Sebastian Durand as one of the five service men who meet in the Atlanta airport during Hurricane Helen. As an avid reader of Ms O’Leary’s books since her first publication, I have often been in awe of her heartfelt stories and the messages contained within. Unfortunately, this story fell short of my expectations.
Mystery and heartache surrounding Sebastian’s past and his estranged relationship with the grandfather who raised him until he joined the Navy, and why he hasn’t returned to the family home in 12 years. The story starts out at a steady pace and tweaks the readers curiosity as to what will be revealed; that is until chapter 9. Between chapter 9 –12, I found myself rereading parts to ensure I wasn’t missing or misunderstanding something, as the events in these chapters felt fractured, unexplained, and unedited which is certainly unlike this author’s meticulous writing style.
But, as the story progressed, the danger and intrigue increased, and the depth of family deception was unveiled, yet many questions remained unanswered and left me asking “but what happened?”. It did jump about quite a bit going from one character’s POV to another’s, but as the danger ramped up and time was running out, the adrenaline was definitely pumping. For me personally, and this is entirely my opinion only, Sebastian and Gianna are my least favourite couple as their relationship seemed to stem more from mutual loss than genuine passion. However, the epilogue was endearing and sweet, but mentioning the character from the next book was unnecessary. I have no doubt this book will be received well, and it was indeed a good story, but for me it was just average.
I received a free ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a unbiased review.
‘Home Again’ by Caitlyn O’Leary is part of a multi-author loosely connected series ‘The Long Road Home’ that follows several military men who are trying find their place in the world. This story is about Sebastian and Gianna who both have faced loss and tragedy early in their lives, but had very different experiences after those events. Neither of them are very open or trusting and this presents some real challenges to their relationship. Sebastian is a SEAL home on leave to get some answers about his parents’ deaths and Gianna is trying to find information on the things that happened to her mother and changed the course of her life. While they have complementary objectives, they don’t share information and learn about the other via their respective IT ‘experts’. There are dangers that catch them both by surprise and threaten to tear them apart permanently, but the events force them to confront their feelings for each other. The first half of the book provides the backstory and builds on the attraction between Sebastian and Gianna. The second half of the story feels like a rollercoaster ride with some unexpected twists and turns speeding toward the end. There are a lot of great secondary characters - the main two are Gideon and Jada (the IT experts) who may have a story of their own brewing. The Louisiana characters from Sebastian’s past are very colorful and blend nicely with the setting of the story. Gideon is from Sebastian’s SEAL team Omega Sky and I am hoping that we see more of them in future books. The epilogue provided some good resolutions to the mysteries and gave us a look several months into the future solidifying the happy ending. I got this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review. I definitely recommend this book or really anything by this author.
My hopes weren’t high for other books in this series after Kris Michael’s terrible start, but this missed even my lowest expectations.
Poorly written dialogue, botched and inconsistent story details, and an FMC that makes a box of hammers look smart. A sexy time scene so cringey, I skipped most of it…and it was cringey because of the FMC’s dialogue. MMC’s mom goes from being shot to being stabbed. The bridge he drove over had permanently closed 4 years before this book was written. Names get mixed up in dialogues. People that were either sitting or standing do things that are illogical for whatever position they were supposedly in. And I personally abhor FMC’s that won’t swear…and are so painfully dumb, they really shouldn’t be trusted to have children.
And then just wrapping up the whole book in less than 5 sloppily written pages was the ultimate disappointment..it made me wish I had DNFed at the very beginning. That ending was the worst I’ve come across for leaving the reader thinking, “that can’t be all…this simply cannot be the way this author is going to end this twisty-turny story that has so many mysteries and loose ends!!!” Whose trial? How did Brad die? Who actually did the killing of the MMC’s parents? Why didn’t we get ANY details on the takedown of the cousins, Brad, the grandad, and the uncle? Nope. NOTHING. And nothing on the FMC’s mother. Just a “oooh here’s a baby! My readers will love it” ending. If an ending had a sound to go with it, this one would be a balloon deflating.
Save yourself significant annoyance and pass on this one.
The excellent Long Road Home series exploring the concept of what home means, continues with Caitlin O’Leary’s Home Again. Navy Seal Sebastian Durand is travelling back to the place he grew up, lured by his grandfather’s promise of answers to the secrets & tragedy in his past. Once there Sebastian meets Gianna who is also searching for answers about the past and her mother’s connection to Sebastian’s grandfather. Forever shaped by the childhood he couldn’t wait to leave, strong and protective Sebastian has always kept his emotions closely guarded even from his brother Seals who he trusts with his life, but suddenly finds his walls crumbling around sparky Gianna. Definitely the type to leap before she looks Gianna soon finds herself embroiled in danger from the past with Sebastian racing against time to save the woman who is beginning to feel like his home. Quite gripping, certainly action packed, there was almost too much going on to fully keep track and I was perhaps a little disappointed that most of the answers & resolution came in the epilogue rather than the actual story. An entertaining read, lots to enjoy - mystery, suspense, action, heat, great supporting characters - loved Jada & Gideon and the introductory glimpse of Omega Sky. I received an arc from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Sebastian Durand is lured home with the promise of answers to old mysteries, but what he finds is a woman on a mission of her own and even more questions. Can Sebastian and Gianna weather the storms in the present to unlock the truths of their pasts? This book is a little different than I’m used to reading from Caitlyn, in that it wasn’t the typical Seal Team mission or the whole team working together. This is a personal issue for Sebastian while on leave that he ends up needing Gideon for too. All the characters are fantastic! Sebastian is another stellar Book Boyfriend, he’s alpha without being too much, damaged but still capable of love. The banter between Gideon and Jada steal the show and set up for a future book perfectly! Neil, Philly, and the O’Malleys were all great supporting characters as well. The book had plenty of sizzling chemistry, plot twists, suspense, and plenty of villains. I was a little surprised at how some things turned out in the epilogues, I didn’t see it going that way. I honestly couldn’t put the book down, and was thoroughly impressed. I can’t wait for Jada and Gideon’s book to unravel the rest of her unanswered questions! I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love this author's military heroes and although a departure from her usual genres, I completely fell in love with her version of a murder mystery! This might not be your typical protector romance/romantic suspense or murder mystery but it's a damn good mash-up!
Sebastian is heading home to Louisiana, determined to finally get some answers from his grandfather. There is a hurricane inbound so the flight he hoped to catch has been grounded and he's now travelling overland.
What he finds is a drunk off his face relative and a drowned rat of a renter. Gianna has taken pity on Armand and comes to the house to remind him to eat. But when Sebastian realises her cottage isn't safe for her during the storm he makes her move in with them to the main house. But Sebastian is unaware that that proposal actually gives Gianna what she wants - a chance to snoop and find out what happened to her mum.
There are some great secondary characters including Jada and Gideon. The mystery plotline intertwines nicely with the romance and I highly enjoyed it. There are enough twists and turns but not so many that you forget which way the plot is going now. And the chemistry between Gianna and Sebastian is scorching hot!
While this is the fourth book in the "Long Road Home" series that is based around five military men trapped by a hurricane in Atlanta airport all facing a turning point in their military careers it is also the introduction to the Omega Sky team which will be the next series by Caitlyn and if this is any indication what a series it will be This book is slightly different to Caitlyn normal military romance as there is also an underlying mystery throughout the story.
With Hurricane Helen closing in on his Louisiana home Sebastian "Seb" Durand has finally returned to a place he never thought he would come back to after leaving to join the military on his 18th birthday. But he has questions and his grandpere Lazar has promised him answers The only problem is that Lazar is not at home and he has no intention of answering questions in fact he has plans for Seb's future that doesn't entail the SEALS. Meanwhile Seb meets Gianna Prentiss the tenant of the coach house who has questions of her own The attraction between them is instant Can they find the truth with the help of her friend Jada and Seb's team mate Gideon and yes their story is the next cab of the rank
Sebastian Durand wasn’t particularly excited to spend his leave at the family home with his controlling, manipulative pollical grandfather but he did want answers. If Sebastian was surprised to see his belligerent drunken uncle, he was stunned to see Gianna Prentiss, a renter, living in the carriage house. Plus, his grandfather’s out of town and the housekeeping couple are on vacation for two more days. Gianna and Sebastian tamp down their attraction but seem to have a common enemy.
Shoddy police reports concluded Sebastian’s mom left then died and his father died in an auto accident before he was 8-years old. Gianna’s missing mother ran an escort service disappeared and no real search was done. All three parents had recent disagreements with the grandfather before their tragic next steps and he’d promised to clear the mysteries for Nathan. Instead, gramps had a whole different plan for Sebastian.
This reader was torn about this series offering from a new to me author and it’s likely expectation as there’s more suspense and drama points than the other series offering. Also, while I wasn’t invested in the characters, I was intrigued by the plot. Rating: 3.75stars
At the Durand mansion in the Bayou, two people search for answers about family deaths for each of them
A hurricane forces Sebastian Durand to shelter in the Altanta USO as he comes home on military leave after his grandfather promises him answers about his parents' untimely deaths. There he meets Gianna who is living in the Durand carriage house and searching for answers about her mom's connection to Sebastian's grandfather and her life before Gianna was born. After being caught snooping in the elder Durand's office, the two decide to hunt for answers together. Money, greed, and politics are in play as Gianna's friend Jada, Sebastian's fellow SEAL Gideon, childhood friends, and the Durand's handyman help in the search. Kidnapped and beaten, Gianna's life hangs in the balance as time is running out. My only regret was the book didn't explain what happened to a few characters.
Sebastian Durand left home at the age of 18 and joined the Navy. He is now a SEAL. He is lured back home with a promise from his grandfather. He will finally get the questions answered that have been plaguing him almost his entire life. When he arrives, a hurricane is barreling towards the town where he used to live. Once there, he is left cooling his heels waiting for his grandfather, which is not a surprise. He meets Gianna, the woman who is renting the gate house on the property. They are both looking for answers to solve a mystery. When they meet, sparks fly. The attraction is instant. They are both focused on unraveling the mystery, no matter what. They have many obstacles to face to get the HEA they deserve. True love will always find a way. Sorry, no spoilers. I received this ARC and here is my honest review.
HOME AGAIN (The Long Road Home Book 4) by Caitlyn O’Leary This is a totally different spin from the usual Caitlyn O’Leary books, but it is just as good as what I have come to expect from her. Sebastian left home at 18 to join the navy. Years later he returns home after a promise is made to him from his grandfather being willing to answer questions about the past and what happened to his parents. When he gets home he meets Gianna who is staying in the estate’s carriage house searching for answers of her own about her mom. Sebastian and Gianna instantly find they have lots of chemistry. This suspenseful drama also has intrigue, mystery, twists, turns, betrayal and a heaping helping of the bayou. The secondary characters are well fleshed out and I am looking forward to the coming book for Jada and Gideon. This is a 5 star read.
Sebastian is going to the last place he ever wanted to be...the home he grew up in. But he wants answers and going home is the only way to get them. Gianna needs answers too and she is hoping to find them in Louisiana. But has she found more then she can live through? I enjoyed the latest story from Caitlyn O'Leary. Two souls that struggle with trust need to learn and learn quickly if they want to survive. Can the trust themselves and their friends before it is too late? Sebastian has more than he ever knew, friends who are family of the heart if not the blood. But can he push past his fears and accept it? Gianna needs answers too but does she need to find them alone? Can she accept freely given help before her head talks her out of it. I loved seeing Gianna and Sebastian learn that family is more than blood as they fight for answers and each other.
Omg this book was absolutely phenomenal and very intense from the beginning until the end and I was absolutely enthralled from it and couldn't put it down. Caitlyn Oleary rocked this book as it's filled with suspense and action and who done it and chemistry and romance and just so much more. It was absolutely a heartbreaking story for Navy seal Sabastian Durand growing up losing his parents they way he did and then we meet a sassy wanna be spy Gianna Prentiss who's wanting to fund tge truth out her mother. Then we meet Sabastian's grandfather and uncle who one is in the senate and dirty and the other a drunk and gambler but can he keep Gianna safe while they're looking for the truths about it all or will someone end up getting hurt or even killed? This book was absolutely fantastic and will have you completely have you on the edge of your seat. Bravo well done.
Wow. I don't know what else to say. Another must read.
Sebastian is summoned back home by his grandfather, after more than a decade of being away, with the promise of answers about the murder of his mother. But his grandfather is just trying to control him and force him into politics for his own agenda. Gianna is there looking for answers to her mother's death years ago because she is positive that Sebastian's grandfather is involved somehow. Can they work together to find the answers or will Sebastian try to keep her out of the loop to keep her safe? What happens when Gianna goes off on her own to investigate and gets kidnapped while Sebastian went out of town? Will Sebastian and Gideon with the help of some local friends be able to find her before the kidnapper beats her again? Will they both find the answers they are looking for?
Corrupt politicians, a good old boy network, murder covered ups, kidnapping, blackmail and manipulations are but few highlights of Home Again. Sebastian Durand is returning home to get answers to questions he's had for 20 years. Gianna Prentiss is on a quest for answers too and they may dovetail with Sebastian's. Finding the adorably sassy Gianna at his Grandpère's home was a surprise but a good one. They team up along with her best friend, Jada Harlow and his teammate, Gideon Smith to get answers. As usual his duplicitous grandfather and alcoholic ne'er do well uncle have their own agendas and it certainly doesn't match Sebastian's. Things go sideways, Gianna's in danger and Jada, Gideon and Sebastian pull out all the stops to save her. Once all is said and done Sebastian understands how prophetic Blessing's words were--he did get his answers and he found joy!
As always, this is another awesome book by Caitlyn O'Leary. Sebastian goes home because his grandfather has sent him a letter saying he would tell him the truth about his parents' deaths. Gianna is there because she is trying to find out what happened to her mother and thinks Lazar had something to do with it. Will they be able to find out the truth? Lazar has summoned Sebastian home and made plans for him to run for State Legislature while Lazar runs for Lt Governor. But Lazar has said he also stop Sebastian's re-enlistment papers. When Gianna takes off on her own to try to get some answers, she ends up kidnapped. Will they be able to find her before she is killed or hurt worse than she already is? Who is behind the kidnapping? Will they find the proof they need about her mother and Sebastian's parents' deaths?
Book four of the series and Sebastian is in the airport on his way home to find answers from his grandfather about his mother's death. He hasn't been home since he left to join the Navy. Sebastian meets Gianna while she's renting out the gate house. What he doesn't know is she's looking for answers about her mother as well. I liked Sebastian's character and the way he related to Ophelia and Neil. You could see where he really cared and loved the two. This book has danger, suspense, mystery, action and some funny parts where Sebastian catches Gianna under his grandfather's desk. And there's romance. I also liked Gianna's friend Jada and Sebastian's team mate Gideon can't wait to read their story.
Something fishy is going on in Louisiana. It’s been this way for years. Sebastian just wasn’t ready to learn the truth from his crooked grandpere. After the murder of first his mother then his father he just shut down and left joined the Navy and never came back. He never dreamed his family could be capable of all the backstabbing, cheating and murder he would uncover with the help of a beautiful woman Gianna who has a few secrets of her own. Can they solve the mystery together? The closer they become the more danger Gianna is in. Can Sebastian put the pieces together before he loses the one person that means more to him than life itself? “I voluntarily received this arc book for an honest review”

What a fantastic read!! I loved Sebastian instantly, such an alpha protector with a gentleness that draws you in. Meeting Gianna when they were both looking for answers from his uncle and grandfather was fate. Gianna was One determined woman on a mission to find who murdered her mother when the one man who can offer her what she’s always wanted - unreserved love - enters her life. Caitlyn O’Leary is a wonderfully talented author who has once again created a wonderful world to sink into. Creating a story of pain and heartache, finding justice, the understanding of brotherhood and finding what we all look for in life - that one special someone that fills our heart and soul with light. A perfect romantic suspense. Absolutely fantastic read. Definite 5 stars. Thankyou Caitlyn
Another fantastic addition to this multi author series, it was a nice twist that unlike most of the other wounded warriors in this series Sebastian is not physically wounded and headed home at the end of his career. He functions in adult life and is a successful SEAL but he keeps his emotions locked up tight and struggles to trust, not a huge surprise when you discover the horrific verbal and mental abuse he suffered from early childhood. He may be returning home for answers but he finds more than expected when Gianna explodes into his life. This is a great book and introduces a new series for us too, I look forward to meeting more of the Omega Sky team in books 1 and 2 released next year.
I am a great fan of all of Caitlyn O Leary's books and was waiting for this one with excitement. This book deviated from her usual style and was more focused on developing a mystery. I felt this didn't leave enough time to develop the relationship between the characters. The ending then seemed rushed with all the explanations being divulged in the epilogue. I did enjoy this book but felt it could have been improved by being a bit longer. I was taken aback when I got to the epilogue as it seemed to appear from nowhere with no opportunity for the reader to have taken in any of the evidence in order to puzzle out the mystery. I am eagerly awaiting the next books following the characters from Omega Sky and hope these will be more like the books I love by Caitlyn.
