It was a pleasant short novella. I felt the premise of the story was excellent but possibly it could have been told better. Surely the doctors late wife’s family would have known she was expecting even though he’d been away 2 years. Similarly there is their obsession that he marries his sister in law. Whilst he might have done the marriage would have run the risk of being voided at any time, thus giving uncertainty to any children they had. Surely his in laws would not want this, and I am surprised he was not stronger in stopping this discussion sooner.
