Home is no longer the place he left… but it’s all he’s got.
John Roster is flying to his childhood home in Maine after a medical discharge from the Army. No one will be there to welcome him home other than his cranky grandfather… a personality trait the two men share. No job. No friends. And with a storm canceling all flights at the moment, no plane to catch.
Killing time at the USO in the airport, he bonded with a few fellow servicemen also waiting out the storm, as well as the irrepressible hostess who offered a suggestion… find a purpose by thanking someone who’d helped while he was stationed overseas.
Lucy Carrington’s special project for her history class has come to an end. The letters they had written to a fellow-Maine soldier had stopped now that he was leaving the military. Staring at the picture of the handsome soldier with the haunted eyes, she wished they could meet in person. One day, in the middle of their lesson, he appeared. He’s much more gorgeous in person… and just as haunted.
John expected a matronly teacher to greet him, not the bright-eyed, friendly-smile, knock-out that made up the whole package of Lucy. Sparks fly, but he’s got a long way to go to have more to offer than a beat-up former soldier, so he’ll settle for friendship.
A new job offer with a prestigious security firm might lead him to the future he wants. A threat at her school thrusts him into the role of protector. Keeping her safe is his mission… earning her love is his goal. And a soldier never quits.
As an Award Winning and International Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Kobo Best Selling Author, I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I "cut my romance teeth" on the old historical romance books. I’ve written as a hobby for over 30 years. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma's Home was created.
My first novel, Emma's Home became an Amazon Best Seller in 3 categories within the first month of publishing. Its success was followed by the rest of the Fairfield Series and then led into the Love's Series. From there I have continued with the romantic suspense Alvarez Security Series and now the Saints Protection & Investigation Series.
My books are filled with sweet romance and hot sex; mystery, suspense, real life characters and situations. My heroes are alphas, take charge men who love the strong, independent women they fall in love with. I worked as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years. I recently retired and now can spend more time devoted to my writing.
I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 35 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters. When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!
John Roster is medically discharged from the Army. He is flying home but is sidelined by a hurricane in Atlanta. He ends up waiting out the storm in the USO part of the airport and there he meets Blessing. She has some good advice for him as does Cam, one of three other servicemen he meets while there.
John is out of sorts but helps his "Gramps" around the house as he is no longer able to do it himself. He is aimless but fate steps in and guides him to where his next journey begins.
John meets Lucy, a fifth-grade teacher who along with her class has written to John over the last 8 months. Lucy is a fun character and I admire her character for wanting to fix her cottage as much as she can. She watches YouTube videos to learn how to fix things. Just like a true teacher, she is always learning.
I liked this story and look forward to the next in this heartwarming series.
This was a sweet story of finding your way home and finding a different purpose in life, John found that and more in his home state of Maine.
I received an ARC of this book but I went on to buy it as I always enjoy a story by Ms. Jordan.
Home To Stay is a standalone in The Long Road Home series where the heroes are connected by a chance meeting at Atlanta airport USO while waiting out a storm.
John Roster is feeling lost with no job and an uncertain future now that he has been medically discharged from the Army. He decides to personally thank the fifth grade class that wrote to him while he was stationed overseas and is surprised when he meets their young and beautiful teacher, Lucy Carrington.
“I wasn’t okay, but now I’m in your arms, John, and we’re perfect.”
I loved this story with its sweet romance and just a bit of suspense and danger. -5 Stars-
Home to Stay the next in the Long Road Home series. John is returning home after being medically discharged from the army but his plans get delayed because of a hurricane and he ends up staying the night in the USO meeting Blessing and 3 others. Blessing herself needs a book, I love her. John has held onto letters he received from a school at home but he has no idea the impact they’ll make on his life. Blessings leaves him with these words.. “Find some way to repay the kindesss that someone has shown to you. Gratitude goes a long way to helping us find our own happiness.” John may be lost when he returns home but he’ll find more then he ever realizes he needed. I love everything Maryann Jordan writes, this one melts your hearts and just enough suspense to be her book.
What a wonderful story. A soldier medically discharged is not the way they want to leave the only way of life they know. John has to find his way, he needs a career to feel worthwhile. Helping his Gramps can only be temporary to sooth his soul. Visiting the local school and the children who wrote to him while in service turned his life around. Lucy, the teacher caught his eye...could she be just what he needed? I loved their journey, she could be in danger and he needs to feel useful again. A security job is in the wings, could this team be his new brotherhood? Great story, a slow burn and a little action. I was invested from the beginning.
John meets some men during a storm at the airport who encourage him to meet with the kids who wrote him letters when he was in the military. Now that he’s received a medical discharge, he’s uncertain as to where his life is headed😢
When John reaches Maine, he helps his Gramps do some repairs and meets Lucy, who coincidentally happens to be the teacher who encouraged the kids to write him😍
A great story which has me intrigued to read more in the Lighthouse series❣️
Wow, simply amazing! I loved Home To Stay (The Long Road Home, book 2). Each book in The Long Road Home series is written by various authors. Some of the authors I know and love, and a few I have been introduced to and happy to have found them. Home To Stay is a standalone. The men in each of the series meet by chance at the Atlanta Airport. Their flights are cancelled due to an impending storm. They go to the USO area of the airport where they are introduced to one another by this wonderful woman named Blessing. Blessing tries to talk with John as she leads him to the area in the USO where he will be staying until flights resume, but John is not a talker, but she has enough time with him to get a sense about him. Before Blessing leaves John, she tells him, “Find some way to repay the kindness that someone has shown to you. Gratitude goes a long way to helping us find our own happiness.” I think Blessing needs her own story, and I am excited to see if she is in one of these other stories in the series.
Home to Stay tells the story of John Roster and Lucy Carrington. John is deployed, and while deployed he receives letters from students in a fifth grade class from where he grew up in Maine. These letters made his deployment a little better. John had four more years before he retired from the Military, but unfortunately he was injured, losing partial vision in one eye, and was medically discharged. He is heading home to Maine where he was raised by his Grandparents. Sadly, his Grandmother passed away ten years ago, so it is just his Grandfather now. John is feeling lost with no job and an uncertain future now that he has been medically discharged from the Army. While he figures out what he is going to do, he stays with his grandfather and helps by doing some much needed repairs to the house. Thinking about what Blessing said to him, he decides to personally thank the fifth grade class that wrote to him. They sent him a class picture in one of the letters, so he sees a gray-haired lady in the picture and figures this is their teacher. When he gets to the school, he is escorted to the classroom by this gray-haired lady and learns she is not the teacher, but the teacher’s aide. When he enters the classroom all the kids are so excited to see him, but no one is happier than John is when he meets the real teacher, Lucy Carrington. He bumped into Lucy (literally) the day before in a clumsy accident at the hardware store, and has been thinking quite a bit about this mystery lady. Lucy is beautiful and clumsy and determined to repair the fixer upper home she bought by herself with only the help of YouTube. She is secretly infatuated with John and since he sent the class a picture of him and his unit, she keeps a copy of it by her bed to look at every night. I will not say anymore, except I loved it! John and Lucy have a rocky start, but mend things, and it is so sweet to see their relationship grow. We get to see the Lighthouse Security team (a series by Maryann Jordan), as Horace is friends with John’s Grandfather, and this is where John’s journey leads him. There is also suspense in this story as well, thanks to Lucy’s “friend”, which I use that word loosely. All in all Home To Stay is a great story and really a must read. If you are not familiar with Maryann Jordan, and found her through The Long Road Home series, grab this book because I guarantee you when you finish Home to Stay, you will be giving her other books a read. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 2nd book in the Long Road series and is the story of John and Lucy. This is a stand alone but the stories are interconnected.
John is a medically discharged vet on his way home. He had planned to retire from the military and due to his injury he cannot return to his team, and he is NOT happy about it. He doesn’t know what he is going to do with himself and has no plans for his future other than returning to his Gramps in Maine. On his way home he is waylaid in Atlanta due to weather and meets 4 other vets all heading home and unsure of their future. While there, he pulls out a stack of letters that he received while overseas and explains that a class of 5th graders from his hometown wrote to him and he is encouraged by these guys to visit the kids to meet and thank them in person. He is reluctant to meet with the kids because he doesn’t know how to relate to them, but their letters were really helpful to him and he decides to let them know in person. Once at the school he is shocked to meet their teacher who he expected to be an elderly woman but is surprised to find that she is a beautiful, young and vibrant beauty.
Lucy is thrilled to meet John because after he sent the class a picture of his buddies and him, she developed a crush on the class pen pal. Lucy is sweet, determined, a bit clumsy and has a huge heart. They both seem to be smitten with one another but John is struggling because he believes he has nothing to offer Lucy since he has no plan for his future. Through his Gramps, John meets the Lighthouse Security Keepers and Mace offers John a job and a chance at a future. It was so great to see our Keepers taking him in and helping him get a career established so he can build a future! Of course this is a Maryann Jordan book with some intrigue and excitement, so that is fun!
I just loved this book! Watching John and Lucy truly become friends and then more was so hopeful and sweet. I found myself smiling as I was reading! I look forward to seeing John in future LSI stories and getting updates on his and Lucy’s relationship. I really liked that John heeds the quirky advice that he is given by Blessing in the beginning of the story and then reaching out to the other vets at the end for a check in. I hope as the series progresses that the guys become closer and have contact with one another. John realizing that being ‘Home to Stay’ isn’t as bad as it seemed and his ‘Second Act’ could be just as fulfilling as his first was heartening to see. Great job and I cannot wait to read the rest of these guys and their stories!
John Roster is retiring from the Army after being medically discharged. He has no job left to do and it hurts to think that he will not be able to join his team in the Army. He comes back home to his grandfather's house where he has a lot of memories living with his grandparents. He received letters from a fifth grade class during his overseas work and it made his day whenever he reads them. He is busy making repairs at his grandfather's house but he is still uncertain about his job's prospect since he has an eye injury. He is hesitant to give the school a visit and see the class who wrote him the letters. Lucy works as a teacher of a fifth grade students. She is surprised to see John whom they have been sending letters walk into her classroom. Since they have little time on her class, he wants to schedule another visit so her class can spend more time talking to John. She is embarrassed as she remembers their encounter at the hardware store despite of him calling it an accident. Then, her friend wants to go to a bar to enjoy a good time. John does not have a job but his grandfather's friend tells him about a security company that he might be interested to apply. When he turns back, he suddenly collides with Lucy and he is not expecting to see her again in the same place. He does not trust the crowd that hangs around with Lucy's friend and he gives his number to Lucy to know when she arrives at home. Lucy learns more about John during their date. They enjoy talking to each other until he turns to a cold person and leaves her home. Her friend invites her to go to a music festival which she easily agrees to. John feels useless that he has nothing to offer to Lucy. Suddenly, the owner of the security company shows at his grandfather's house where he tells Mace about his medical discharge that left him with no left eye vision due an explosion. When Mace offers to employ him, he feels honored that he has an opportunity to work with them. Lucy does not trust the biker who hangs around with her friend. Then, she is left alone by her friend who wants her to stay at a hotel for the night instead of going back home. Upon reaching the hotel room, she discovers a group of bikers heading inside the hotel and she is scared John Roster is a calm, quiet, reserved, loyal, duty-bound, dedicated, honorable, honest, decision maker, and a strong man. Lucy is a sweet, independent, funny, smart, perceptive, calm, easy going, energetic, and a caring woman. The book is interesting to read and I love the character development. The characters have a great chemistry and how their relationship develops into something more. I enjoyed reading the story and I love that Lucy and John
This is book 2 in The Long Road Home series and is also connected to the Lighthouse Keepers series as well. It can absolutely be read as a standalone, although I do recommend both of these series as they are great reads! We get John and Lucy's story in this one! John is going back home to Maine after being medically discharged. The only person still there for him is his grandfather. He doesn't have a job, no friends there, nothing to ground him. He forged a bond with some servicemen that he was stranded with at the USO while they waited for their flights, but he also was given advice that he can't get out of his head. That leads him to meeting Lucy. Lucy had her class write to a Maine soldier while he was deployed. But she never expected him to come home or come to her class. Or for there to be such a connection between them. He doesn't think he has anything to offer her though, until a job offer comes in that changes the course of his future.
I absolutely loved this book! I loved being able to see and understand some of the things that our soldiers may think and feel after being discharged-whether medically or not. It's heartbreaking knowing that they may feel like they have nothing to offer when they have given everything for their country. John is this man who is rock solid when it comes to his beliefs and caring for those he loves but he shows this other side that is vulnerable and I love that about him. Lucy is this klutzy, smart, and sweet woman who also has a spine of steel and isn't afraid of hard work. They are absolutely perfect for each other. Not only do they have the capacity to be actual friends and have conversations together, but they also have this respect and love for each other. It was definitely the perfect way to write this story and I didn't want it to end! I kinda would love to see a story for Lucy's friend as well. Let her show that she turned her life around and have that HEA as well!
After being medically discharged from the Army, John Roster heads back to the only place that feels like home…Maine. On his way home, he is stranded for the evening in the airport due to a storm. He stays at the airport’s USO where he meets other injured servicemen. As they share their stories, the USO hostess imparts a cryptic message to John…
Lucy Carrington’s history class has been sending letters to a deployed soldier during the school year. They never expected him to show up in their classroom, but that’s what John did. The letters kept him going during his last deployment and made the bad times a little bit better. To show his gratitude, he comes to the school to say thank you. Never in a million years did Lucy believe that her secret crush would not only show up in her classroom, but also live nearby. But she soon realizes he has a few things to figure out before he’s ready to date and commit to a relationship.
I loved how Maryann Jordan tied Lighthouse Security into The Long Road Home series. Very clever. I enjoyed seeing Horace, Bray, and the crew. As a former teacher, I know there were several classes that had soldier pen pals. It means sooo much to our soldiers to receive a little bit of home while deployed. Lucy’s klutziness is adorable and I admire her drive. I loved that she watched videos to learn how to fix up her house and wanted to do it on her own. The mystery, suspense at the end made the story even better! John’s cantankerous grandpa reminded me so much of my own. Loved him! A very realistic, romantic, adorable read. This is the second novel in the series, but can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Home to stay is book 2 in The Long Road Home series. Book 2 is by Maryann Jordan. John has been medically discharged recently from Army Special Forces. He meets a group of military men in Atlanta airport as well as a kindly woman, Blessing. Blessing, who brings him to others who are searching, seems to have a special sense of John. Blessing suggests he look at how he can repay, how can he show gratitude.
John arrives home to his grandfather's house. He gets busy helping his grandpa doing projects around the house. Having recently bought a major fixer upper, John and Lucy unknowingly meet first in the hardware store. He decides a way to show gratitude is to visit the class who gave him a piece of home while he served. He meets the teacher, who he didn't expect to be the teacher and a friendship is formed. Lucy is a sweet, quirky, strong, smart, independent woman. Lucy seems comfortable in her skin and fully admits to being a bit of a klutz.
John has a hard time adjusting to his new life but circumstances and acquaintances help to center him. Maryann Jordan has such a wonderful way of dealing with broken people. I think her background as a counselor helps her to portray them with such depth. John's growth of character and confidence weaves throughout the story. Ms Jordan also weaves in another of her series, Lighthouse Security Investigations with several familiar characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this ARC copy, that I was lucky enough to receive, and would wholeheartedly recommend it to all.
I can't wait to read book 3 in this series, Finding Home by Abbie Zanders.
This is book two in The Long Road Home and it is John and Lucy's story and omg it is a must read. John has been medically discharged from the army and flying home to Maine where his gramps lives but then he is stranded due to the weather and gets to know other service men in the same situation as he is. John has been receiving letters from the school where he lived and he decided that he would go and see them to say thank you not realising that the teacher was the same woman that he had met at the hardware store. Lucy teaches fifth grade children but she is shocked when John walks into the classroom to thank them for his letters. The connection and chemistry between John and Lucy is instant and strong but John has a lot of issues to overcome before he can feel worthy of someone like Lucy who is so positive on everything and she is a bright light in his mixed up world but when Lucy is in danger nothing will stop him from protecting and saving her. I loved how we caught up with all the lighthouse crew that was definitely a added bonus and John fitted in there perfectly. Maryann Jordan is an amazing author and writer and I absolutely love her books so much and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and on the edge of their seats. I couldn't put this book down as it was so addictive and a real page turner. I definitely recommend you read this book and others by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.
I Voluntarily Reviewed an Arc Copy of this Amazing and Emotional Book.
This book was just what I needed to read! It gave me hope for an uncertain future.
John Roster had spent his life in the Army. Once medically discharged due to an injury, he had no idea what to do with his life. He was no longer a soldier, fighting for his country. He should have been in the Army for another 3 years, then he would have retired on his terms. Now he’s adrift and doesn’t have a purpose in life.
Lucy Carrington was an elementary school teacher of a 5th grade class. They had chosen to become pen pals with a soldier overseas, fighting for their lives and their freedom. Lucy was an individual who depended on no one. Her house was proof of that. She spent her off time watching YouTube videos telling her how to do those projects that kept showing up on her fixer upper house. She was independent and didn’t want to rely on others to do her repairs and upgrades.
When John and Lucy met, Lucy was literally floored! She didn’t know who the man at the hardware store was but she’d ended up surrounded by the items she had planned on purchasing, all of them laying on the floor. She’d seen the man she bumped into and was flabbergasted.
A chance meeting quickly turns into a lifetime. They were fated to be together!
I gave this book 5 stars because it hooked me from the start. I didn’t want it to end!
***I received an Advanced Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I will be purchasing my own copy of the book so I can read and read again!
Once again this talented storyteller gives the reader a wonderful story. John Roster’s military career as a member of the Special Forces comes to an end when he’s injured and no longer can be part of this special group. Leaving his team after a medical discharge, has left him without an anchor . He decides to return to his grandfather’s home, the place where he spent part of his youth, while he figures out what to do with the rest of his life. In the meantime , he’s also decided to visit the elementary school and the kids that kept his spirits up whenever he received a package and letters from them. Little did he know his life would change forever when he met their sweet teacher , Lucy Carrington. As the friendship develops and John finds a job , things get serious. But what happens when a friend of Lucy puts her in danger? For those that are fans of the author, you’ll be pleased to know that Mace and the men and women of LIghthouse Security Investigations are in the story. From the beginning the plot was engaging and the main characters wonderful. The book was also a reminder of the struggles the some of the brave men and women that serve our country encounter when they return to civilian life. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Medically discharged Ranger, John Roster was at loose ends. During an overnight layover, the hostess suggested showing gratitude to those who’d helped him along the way. As John and his fellow military travelers discussed their situations. John shared letters he’d gotten from Lucy Carrington’s 5th graders who’d written as a class project. John and Lucy are stunned when he arrives to thank her class, they’d had interest in each other when Lucy literally bumped into him two days previously at the hardware store.
Disappointed he had no job or prospects and couldn’t pursue Lucy until he did, John was out for a drink with his grandfather and a friend getting info on a job, Lucy bumps into John and spills her drink. She’d come to hear the music with a girlfriend who’d ditched her to hook up with a musician on his break and was sitting with a biker group Lucy wasn’t interested in and gave John bad vibes. John gets the job and mentions the large group of bikes and finds his new team is looking into them. Lucy went to a music festival with the same girlfriend, the bikers show up. As Lucy backs away, she sees something she shouldn’t and calls John, getting his whole team’s attention. Rating: 4stars
The 2nd book in the series Long Road Home. Home to Stay is Maryann Jordan’s story of John and Lucy. They met via mail with her students from John’s hometown in May. I love it... It’s always great catching up with the Keepers! John Roster feels lost after being medically discharged from the service. Flying home to his hometown in Maine where his gramps lives he meets fellow service men in the USO in the airport. And a hostess with words of wisdom he will never forget. He couldn’t be more surprised and excited when he meets Lucy Carrington who uphappens to be the same woman from the hardware store. Home To Stay was amazing. A heartfelt story full of emotion. While there are some elements of danger and suspense, this romance focuses the on moving forward by accepting what is and letting go of what was and the surprising things that happen when you repay kindness. As with all Maryann Jordan books the importance of family, both blood and bond, is stressed. The tie in to Lighthouse Security Investigations series is perfect. Also for you Heroes at Heart fans, Blessing Collier (USO hostess) reminded me of Miss Ethel.
What do you do when you're no longer have a career or a team, no job prospects or plans? Returning to home to Maine and his Gramps, John Roster needs to sort out his priorities and stop feeling sorry for himself. Deciding to take some sage advice about finding a way to repay a kindness, he visits the fifth graders who'd been sending him letters. What a surprise when he meets the real teacher not the one in the photo sent to him. Lucy Carrington is a vivacious, dark haired beauty with a "let me do it myself" attitude. Suddenly his life is not so bleak. That's not to say there aren't some missteps along the way as the pieces fall into place.
Amazing 2nd book in this Long Road Home series. Received an ARC copy but also have purchased this book. Love any and every book by Maryann Jordan.
This book is about John and Lucy. John has been medically discharged from the Army Special Forces. Lucy is a teacher whose class has been pen pals with him during his recent tour of duty for months. Lucy is sweet, independent and confident. Although they meet by chance friendship and romance is soon in the air.
John is adjusting and adapting to his new situation since returning home. He is living with his Grandfather and is introduced to his friend who works with the Lighthouse Security Investigators( LSI). An opportunity arises for John where he thought he had none. John starts to feel more confident and secure in his future but is hesitant to have a relationship. Lucy gets into a situation and contacts John who along with the team from LSI jumps in to assist her.
I loved this story. Maryann has a way of writing and describing her characters and stories that is amazing. I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed.
Home to Stay is a wonderful addition to The Long Road Home series. Although the series is interconnected, each book is a standalone read. John Roster, discharged medically from the Army, stops in the airport USO lounge when storms cancel his flight. A cryptic message from the USO hostess and meeting and talking with four other military men gives John a lot to think about. He has no job, no future plans, a grumpy grandpa to go home to and a packet of letters from the local school class who adopted him during his deployment.
John stops at the school to thank the class for their letters and packages, but it’s the teacher, Lucy Carrington, who catches his attention and the feeling is mutual. As their friendship turns into something more and a job offer comes from Lighthouse Security, the future looks great. Until trouble comes Lucy’s way and it’s up to John and his fellow LSI Keepers to do what they do best, neutralize the threat and keep Lucy safe. Only then will John be Home to Stay!
I received an ARC of this book, but the review is my own. I also purchase each book I review.
A new series from some great authors! You certainly don't have to read these in order or even read them all but these stories are so good so far! They all begin the same putting 5 soldiers of different backgrounds in a chance meeting in a USO airport lounge and see where their story takes them. Maryann's begins with John, medically retired a few years early going home, unsure of what to do. He visits the elementary school class who wrote to him while he was overseas and starts a friendship with Lucy the teacher. I always enjoy how Maryann works life into the story, he has to work at the relationship with Lucy a little and figure out what his career will be. He begins a job with Lighthouse and as always in Maryann books she does an amazing job at background and keeping you on the edge of your seat wondering who did what and why! I love her writing and I can't wait for the next one whenever I finish one book They are always so good! I enjoyed meeting the other characters from the USO at the beginning I look forward to reading the other books in the series! Enjoy!
John Roster finds himself stuck in the Atlanta airport. He finds the USO area and encounters the hostess named Blessing Collier. He meets four other military men and they quickly form a bond. Blessing also gives John some advice. “Find a way to repay a kindness that was shown to you. Gratitude goes a long way to helping find our own happiness.” John makes it home and sees his grandfather home needs a little fixing up. He also makes a decision to go to the school and thank the class for sending letters to him. He is surprised to meet the teacher as she was not what he was expecting. Lucy Carrington was a surprise he never expected. This relationship develops over a short period of time and during this time John finds a job at the same time Lucy finds herself in a jam. I loved how this relationship grows and how quickly he overcomes his self doubts when she needs help. This is such a wonderfully written story and I loved the pace, the characters and the conclusion. This series is proving to be a must read! Maryann Jordan has a winner here with this adventure.
Home is many different things to different people and I'm loving the Long Road Home series as it explores the idea of home and Maryann Jordan's addition 'Home To Stay' will warm your heart and make your day a little brighter. John is lost after his medical discharge from the SEALs that were his life but returning home to his grandfather's house he meets the teacher whose class 'adopted' him and discovers she isn't the little grey-haired old lady he thought. Lucy is simply adorable - clumsy, chaotic but wise and independent too with such a big heart. John learns that home can be both people and places as he finds he still has a purpose and direction after his heart-breaking injury tore him away from the military home he loved. Huge bonus that I love in this story is the fact that Lighthouse Security plays a big role, there is a good dollop of suspense, some action and so much warmth and hope that you can't help but smile. I highly recommend this moving story. I received an arc from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Once again this author hits it out of the ballpark. The beautiful story of John who has been medically discharged from the Army, returns home to Maine to his grandfather and to figure out what to do next in his civilian life. Lucy is a school teacher who had her class write to John while stationed, and secretly crushes on the man. When these two finally formally meet, John is taken by surprise by the young beautiful teacher and Lucy is stunned that the man she has been crushing on is home to stay. But John has his life to figure out and doesn't think he has anything to offer Lucy....will he figure out that he is all that she wants, any way she can get him. A great read with steam, some suspense and amazing characters with the Keeper men and women making an appearance. I LOVED these two, no drama, and no miscommunication. Lucy, a strong and independent woman and John, the stoic alpha man....what an amazing pair....LOVED IT!!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and left my honest opinion*
This is the second book in this wonderful series that centres around five military personnel all stranded in an airport due to a blizzard each is facing a future out of the military The first book in the series was My Hearts Home the story of Cameron the older member of them who gave the other four the advice to find a reason to live something he did himself when he found Mercy Cahill and a future in Hope City
This time we get John Roster's story he has left the military and he is returning to his family roots in Maine not knowing what his future holds other than helping his aging grandfather the one thing that he has had while overseas was letters from a teacher and students from the school in his home town. Mistakenly believing the older lady in the photos of the class is the teacher he is stunned when he actually meets the real teacher and falls in love Has he found part of his future but what will he do for a living You are in for a surprise as John finds his place in life and a new group of brothers
John Roster is heading home to Maine, to his grandfather’s home, from his time in the Army Special Forces. He has a chance encounter with a volunteer at the Atlanta International Airport who has him sit with several guys like him, medically discharged, or recovering from injuries, and one who is retired. Fortunately for him, he also gets some good advice, which leads him to the classroom of the teacher and students that he’s been corresponding with for close to a year. He thought the grandmotherly woman in the photo that was sent of the class was the teacher, except when he arrived, Lucy Carrington is anything but grandmotherly!! She’s a bit klutzy, and has a friend who maybe leading her into so shady business. He also meets a friend of his grandfather’s, a friend who has a lead for a job. But you know, as this is a Maryann Jordan book, there is some intrigue involved, and Maryann is a master of that. Such a great book where we see some friends we’ve seen before. It’s awesome!!
Although this is the 2nd in the Long Road Home series, it can be read on its own – but it will send you off to find the first and wait anxiously for the next one! I think what I felt most in this book is a sense of homecoming, of unity, and of the power of people standing together. It’s a delightful moment when John realizes who the teacher is with whose class he’s been corresponding. Lucy is a joy as well, with so many points of interest in common with John, and their friendship and relationship develop along with his involvement with her class. The danger she’s in comes as a shock, but it also means that the Lighthouse Security crew get involved – and there’s another bonus; John becomes another Keeper (can’t wait to see more of him in future LSI books). This is a must-read for all fans of Maryann Jordan’s writing and series, and I’m sure I’m not the only reader that will be sad to have it end. The background is in the blurb – suffice it to say this is a purchase you won’t regret.
