Myre Series #4

The Seraph: Wings of Ash

Rate this book
Celine is a Seraph. The former princess of Ashenwall.

As a fire-angel without wings or fire, she might as well have turned mortal.

Exiled from her kind, filled with sorrow and bitterness, Celine jumps at the opportunity of taking back her throne. It won’t bring back her wings, but maybe the part of herself she lost along with them.

She makes an unbreakable promise—to a dangerous individual—and is thrust into the adventure of her lifetime.

Very set on her path, she returns to Trinity and welcomes the help of a drop-dead-gorgeous shifter, who agrees to help her reach her goal. Deceiving him will be worth the outcome… or so she thinks.

Jay roams Trinity, on the look to drown his thoughts. When he stumbles across a certain fire-angel, he knows he’s found the means to distract his broken heart. When he is asked to investigate her true motives, he bristles at first, but soo discovers he has more in common with the regal, strong-willed princess as he thought.

As things heat up—literally—it becomes apparent that neither had expected their shared connection.

Will it grow strong enough to endure, to heal them both? Or will Celine's unbreakable promise be their downfall?

When I posted my review for the third book in this series, Victoria Larque commented that the next one was probably her favorite. I was therefore even more curious about this book. And I already was, because in this book Celine, the angel who lost her wings in a fight with our favorite soul reaper, would be one of the main characters. And if there's one thing I love, it's a good redemption arc.

The author was absolutely right that this is probably the best book in the series. Everything about it is perfect. The plot, especially compared to the second book in the series, feels very straightforward and to the point and is therefore easy to follow. The book feels focussed and still there are quite a few unexpected twists and turns keeping us on the tips of our toes.

I also absolutely loved the main characters in this novel. Celine was exactly who I had hoped she would be. She knew what she wanted, she knew what she was fighting for, she knew what price she was paying. She just didn't know all the details. Not only is she redeemed in this novel, but we're spending so much time in her head that we really start to understand her and eventually it's impossible not to love her.

I was also really glad that Jay got his moment of fame in this book. His backstory is quite sad and filled with a lot of hurt and I think we all really felt for him when he admitted to loving Daphne, finding out that she doesn't feel the same about him. However, in this book there's also some happiness waiting for him. And I don't think there are many characters deserving it more than him.

I don't have the last book in this series yet, but I can't wait to get it and I certainly can't wait to read it.

Once again, I don't know where to start but I really want to talk about this book.
I started reading the Myre Series because I saw this one and got really hyped by the cover (thanks KimG xD) and the 4th cover. I then realized it was the fourth book in a series so I decided to read all the other books to be able to read this one. I lost touch with reading over the past few years : studies, work, life, didn't give me enough time to simply pick up a book and read. Of course I kept reading a book once in a while but not as much as I used to back in highschool.
I rushed through books 1-3 and I adored them. The universe, the characters, the story itself... Once I picked up one of those books, I knew I'd be stuck with it for hours.

(Spoilers might start here)
And then came time to read The Seraph... I was so excited to finally start reading it ! It took me only two days off from work to finish it. This time again, Victoria introduced us to a new part of her world. The world of seraphs and zephyrs. I could see myself in it. And it was magical. Celine's relationship with Jay, although I had mixed feelings about them in the beginning, I came to love and support them. Even prayed for them to work things out and be together again.
I think it was in book 2 that we got introduced to Celine in the first place (got them mixed up by reading so fast xD), and she was introduced as a villain. Seeing her point of view, knowing that a villain would be main character of this book, was pretty disturbing at first. But then again, all credit goes to Victoria, she made me learn to know Celine, understand her, and know I can even say I love her. I rooted for her, I wanted her to get her throne back ! I felt bad when she had to face her mother. And god, the relationship she has with Jay is incredible. I've been so hurt when truth finally came out on both sides, I wanted them to work things out and be together. And when Aileen said that Celine accepted the mark, my heart melt.
Can I review this book and not talk about the ending at some point ? I don't think so. Daphne's situation... How am I gonna wait to know how things are gonna work out ?? I need an answer ! I hope book 5 will come out very soon.

So to end this review, thank you again Victoria for your work. Can't wait to see where the story goes. Even though it hurts to know book 5 will be the last.
