Noir Reformatory #2

Second Offense

Rate this book
Bow or bleed.
A decision all Noir angels must make.
Because I’m their king.

It wasn’t my choice. I assumed the position after the prisoners of this nightmare reformatory went after my mates.

Auric is my commander, even if I’m the one giving the orders. He worships the dukedom, the princess, soon to be our queen.

Layla is my crown, my purpose, the sheer essence of life.

She’s the key.

The key to unlocking the darkness in my soul. There is no reform. No restitution. Only retaliation and fear.

I’ll decorate my throne with the broken wings of my enemies. Their blood will run like a river, a red carpet at my feet.

The games have just begun. The players have been cast.

And in this world of darkness and sin, all will bow to their king.

Authors' Note: Noir Reformatory is a ménage dark fantasy romance spanning six novels. There will be cliffhangers, adult situations, violence, and MM/MF/MMF content.

Lots of action and adventure!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😊🙃🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Layla - Her father is king of the Nora angels. She is a princess whose wings turned black and now she resides at Noir Reformatory. She has always wanted her guard Auric, and thought she couldn’t have him since she had to marry another royal from the dukedom. Though now that she shares a cell with Auric and Novak, she knows she wants them.

The Heroes: Auric and Novak - Auric is a Nora angel and has been a guard for Layla since she was young. He left for a while because he didn’t think he could watch her with any other man but returned when she became a Noir angel. Novak is a Noir angel, the baddest one in Noir Reformatory.

The story: Layla, Auric and Novak find out new things about the Noir and where they really came from, but they had a hard time believing it, since it went against everything they had ever been told. Sayair, the Reformer and Layla’s uncle had some new tricks as well, he kept testing the Noir by sending all kinds of paranormal beasts after them.

There was all kinds of action and adventure in this book as well as plenty of steamy scenes. Raven and her mates played a big part in this book, like in the last few. She and Layla became a bit closer in this one. I liked the fact that there were two groups of mates working together in this book. There was more action and adventure in this book than in the last two as well as a few reveals.

This audiobook was narrated in multiple points of view via duet narration. Cassandra Myles, Kale Williams, Lisa Zimmerman and Gregory Salinas did the narration. I liked all of these narrators, and it was done very well.

My Review

This is the continuation of the story and begins where we last left off previously with secrets about Layla’s past and origins finally coming to light. Layla Auric and Novak are all highly suspicious and sceptical concerning the noir messengers news not knowing quite what to believe.

There’s also some leftover resentment and distrust mostly due to past betrayals and grievances that haven’t been fully addressed with Auric and Novak and this finally explodes into a heated confrontation. Raven Sorin and Zain are also experiencing strife not amongst themselves but with the mate bond Novak has formed. Sorin and Zain feel betrayed and replaced whilst Raven is just distrustful.

But with their every day being fraught with danger all this has to be put aside while they operate as a unit against their enemies and journey together to discover the truth. The resulting finale only adding more uncertainty to the mix and I can’t wait to see how this all turns out.

This was fast-paced and had plenty of heat. It was well written and I was left wanting more. Bonds here were solidifying and strengthening whilst past grievances were finally faced head-on. It’s still a work in progress but Auric and Novak through their care for Layla are attempting to move past these betrayals and the anger. I did manage to guess certain things here but I enjoyed it, all the same, this was a good addition to the series be aware these do need to be read in order. They are not stand-alone’s. I voluntary reviewed a copy of Second offence (Noir Reformatory #3).

Me seeing that the book is finally: =D
Me checking to see when the third book will be released and seeing that it's July 2022: =[
Like maybe I'll wait lol
Also, for some reason I don't like the new trio as much as the original so I think I'll be fine waiting a bit longer to start this one
- - -
8/17/21
Sad that the release date keeps getting pushed back =(
- - -
So close to the release date, I hope we get to see more of the original trio in this one as well

A great addition to the series. I loved the exciting twist and turns that turned the whole story on its head. I can’t wait to see where things go with all these new revelations.

It really, really pains me to write this review and I almost opted out but alas, I was provided with an ARC and it would be fairly dickish of me not to do the review. I am currently eating my feelings while I attempt to put into words what this book made me feel.

I struggled to read this book big time. Normally when I read one of Lexi's books, I can easily tune out the world and lose myself in the story but this time...argh, I just couldn't. This is not a long book but it took me soooo much longer than what it would normally to get through and even this review is like pulling teeth - I just spent a stupid amount of time on Instagram, news websites looking up how many COVID cases we are up to here (its not great) and basically anything else I can do at this point because I really don't want to do this review!

Alright, big girl pants on, lets do this. There were two main issues for me with this book:

- There was a scene where right after a big attack Novak and Auric spend some time ordering everyone else at the prison to do all the stuff to make sure that everyone is safe etc and then they go off to have sexy times with Layla. Now, don't get me wrong, I am here for sexy times but this just felt like the wrong time to do this
- While there was some progress to the overall story, I don't feel like it was enough to warrant a full book.

There was a twist at the end which was an interesting development and other than the issues above the story was well written.

I received an ARC and because I am a complete arsehole, I have left an honest review.

Often books in this genre are substantially lacking in plot. Not so here - there's an almost ridiculous amount of drama. A dash of solipsism here, a pinch of Renesmee there, topped up with some sex and a lot of fighting.

The grammar and syntax are reasonable, although there are a few issues.

"I thought each book was a standole of the series but turns out it wasn't. Layla, Novak and Auric are back and I wasn't ready for everything that happened here. Novak was still fascinating as before and man I love him. Auric is more like the bad boy to me and Geez I love him too. Have I mention how hoy they are? The constant tension not only for what's happening but everything including feelings, emotions... the danger. About Layla, last book I didn't like her childish attitude and that was annoying but happily her character improved in this story and it was better still she's the best. Anyway, I absolutely adored that we still have Raven and her mates in the story. I love them all too! We continue to have different POV even of someone I wasn't expecting but I liked it! Plus the steamy was off the charts!!! The kind of scenes that can burn out your kindle and they were so epic!!!!!!! I love how possessive the guys can be, it's si hot and se*y! But wait... THAT ENDING!!!! OMG!!!!! I'm so dying to see what's going to happen next."

Meh

I probably should have reread the previous book, because this one drops you off right in the middle of the storyline. The books are coming far enough apart I’ve lost some of the details. That being said, this effort was not as compelling as the previous. The story barely advances, which I guess I should expect from a 6 book series, but still. I didn’t really feel the relationship between Layla and her guys. There wasn’t enough urgency. Feelings weren’t acute. When Layla had hurt feelings, I was far, far more upset than she was. I’m pretty sure I have a more intense relationship with cake than the guys have with Layla. The steam was minimal, cursory and unimportant. Raven had more chapters than I thought necessary. Why? What was the point? They didn’t add anything new or different. Anyway, another 9 months until the next installment and I can see my interest is going to wander enough I’m not sure I’ll continue. It’s sad, because this was one of my favorite series, I loved the 1st 2 books.

LOVED every moment!💖😇🖤

Picks up quite quickly after the last book....and this isn't a stand alone read so be sure to have read the previous book to better understand the character and world building as it's oh so worth it!!

Layla and her mates are far from in the clear... still in the midst of mind games they need to figure.out exactly what's going on. Tempers amongst their merry little band are running high which also heightens tensions. Throw in a few shocking reveals and surprises And VOILA you've got a major winner! This world building just gets better and more layered as the story goes on, and the characters are rich and complex. I love the banter and how the women aren't victims. There are plenty of steamy moments and of course alpha males all throughout this book 😉. The one warning I'll give is there's a doozy of a cliffy at the ending that'll leave you screaming to the heavens for the next book 😇💖. So prepare yourself now!!

Wait, What?!!! That was unexpected!

This book totally threw me for a loop in the end. So fair warning, this has a doozy for a cliffhanger! I want Third Offense and I want it NOW! I’m not very patient when it comes to waiting for a sequel. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Second Offense picked up right where First Offense left off with the Reformer continuing to play his little games with both trios. His little gift had more than peeked the interest of Layla and her mates, Novak and Auric and they want answers. However, the answers they got were more than they bargained for. The tension within the groups had me on edge throughout the read but it continued to strengthen the mating bonds even more.

Just when I thought the final twist was revealed…BOOM…..Here’s another and WOW….How will this pan out?!!

What talent Lexi has!!! Is the next book ready yet?????!

Change is upon us😱

Second Offense is the next book in the Noir Reformatory series and certainly packs an action sized punch🥊 Layla, Auric and Novak as well as Raven and her two mates are determined to survive in the new realm where they’ve been moved. However, the Reformer has other plans and soon they start to piece together what’s going on and also make a move to use the “gift” Layla was given and act upon his advice and knowledge❣️

Some unexpected surprises in this one and heaps of sexy times🍒 A not to be missed addition to this series which I received an advanced copy for and voluntarily leave my honest review as well as Hope that the next book comes quickly so I can find out what happens next😍

Well...I just found out there will be 6 books in this series. This is the third and what a cliffhanger. Now I have to wait for the release in July of 2022... that's just mean! *SIGH*

Okay so nothing is what it seems. Sayir we don't know what his intentions are. On one hand I just wonder if he's doing all this because something was taken from him and he feels this is the only way? On the other hand I don't know if he's a good guy considering what he's done so far all the games he plays with them. His methods suck. I'm curious about Layla's real parents or supposedly her real parents. If this is true then the Father she knew as hers is a bad person. I mean we kinda already knew because of what he allowed to happen when Novak fell. I can't get into much without telling it all. This series is entertaining with a bit of darkness but not too dark. I'm a fan though.

Why Choose? I love them all

So Sayir's games are getting a bit annoying but this 2nd book has Princess Layla finally getting some answers as well as her mates?

I need to stress the question there because there is a big old cliffhanger at the end of this book...of course there is.

I loved the addition of Kyril's character even though I'm not sure of I totally trust him. But I could not get enough of this book since I couldn't put it down. So now I wait for book 3 to come out in July. Of 2022. WHAT?!!! This is a great world of angel like beings. I can't wait for the rest of the series as I understand there is going to be a total of 6 books.

Truly Enjoyable Read!

I loved the world building. The different multiples POV's besides the 3 main characters leads. I love the characters.

I love the mysteries surrounding Raven and Layla. I think there's more questions about Raven's mother... who was/is she? Is it Queen Gaia? Making Raven, half sister to Layla...

What I didn't like is not hearing a verbal apology from Auric to Novak, Zain and Sorin for what happened... Also another apology to Layla, that wasn't truly said.

Otherwise truly enjoyable series and very entertaining. Looking forward to the next few books!!!😃

Noir Reformatory: Second Offense, is the third book in this series. Continuing on with the characters and divulging more into the world and lore that the author, Foss, has created.
The characters here are complex. Don't expect surface level character arc's here.
Love wins, so very progressive relationships going on. If you're not into MMF, then this may not be for you. Me: I'm all for it and loved every minute! So happy with this series and the direction it is heading.
Start from the beginning. You'll thank me. Recommended read.

Second Offense by Jennifer Thorn and Lexi C Foss is Book 3 in the Noir Reformatory series. The storyline is interesting (world of angel like beings) and the character development is great. Lots of character growth in this book as well as the introduction of some side characters. There are lots of twists to the plot which keep you reading. Had a cliffhanger ending and it won't be until next year before we find out what cones next, Oh well, I can wait. Received and ARC and this is my voluntary review.

Things were bad enough but they have gotten even worse. more death and destruction, wild dangerous creatures, more lies, deceit and more people not to trust. Should they make their getaway when they have the chance or do they want? When two sets of mates learn the truth of their heritage, there is shock, denial, curiosity , , unbelief and even some some encouragement. This book has plenty of action, sex , emotion, sex and more emotions. There's everything from anger to lust, hate to love and in between. I can hardly wait until the next book in the series to come out.

꒰ঌ ໒꒱ Embarked on this one after re-binging the prequel and First Offense. I swear, the more I read from this pair, the more I love them.

꒰ঌ ໒꒱ Reading book 1, it dawned on me that this series very much depicts those in power keeping those not in power enslaved—and the lengths to which they’ll go to keep them oppressed and unaware of the amount of power they actually possess. So … not so different than the real world, just depicted with angels.

꒰ঌ ໒꒱ Absolutely epic, pulled off brilliantly. The reader knows more than some characters at any given moment, as we’re treated to multiple POVs, and it is FAST-paced and exhilarating. I am fairly certain I will re-binge this series every time a new book comes out and then … still repeatedly in completion once it’s over.

This book has no shortage of:

⛓️ Amazing writing.
🪶 Scandal / betrayal / espionage
⛓️ Drama
🪶 Found family
⛓️ Mystery
🪶 Action (of all types)
⛓️Dystopian vibes
🪶 Royals
⛓️ A small, oppressed people actively working to rise above.
🪶 An extremely juicy twist that both First Offense and the prequel have led up to beautifully.

Ends on a wicked cliffie—
Don’t worry. For one thing, it’s absolutely juicy and worth it.
For another, Third Offense is available in print, eBook and audio, so no need to die waiting for it.

And so much more. Highly recommend.
ALL the stars.

Ahhhh, Novak (insert drooling emoji and a bunch of hearts)…he is definitely my favorite male character by Ms Foss and Ms Thorn co-written books. There’s just something about a growly yummy male.
Anyways, this book is a great continuation of the World we are exposed to in Noir Reformatory. Having the main characters like Raven and her mates, and Clyde (love that little creature) brought more to the story for me. It’s like watching a movie, not just centered on three ppl, but on the entire group.

I loved this book, it flowed seemlessly from the previous instalment, with building intrigue and suspense and all the steamy romance. Theres so much going on beneath the surface of Layla's 'fall' and a very winding path to follow in this tale, with plenty of shocking plot twists that kept me on me toes and glued to every word. This addicive book ending with a stunning cliff hanger that had me desperate for the next book! I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

Layla has now mated with Auric and Novak and while constantly being under attack by Sayir at the prison, they are tired of his games. After the prison fire, the food is running out and they are sitting ducks for the next attack. Layla along with Raven and their mates decide to take a chance on leaving. They meet Kyril who claims Layla is the heir to a different throne and her entire life has been a lie. Without anywhere else to go, can they trust him? Or this is another game?

I think, if it’s possible, that I’m even more in love with Novak now than when I read him in the first 2 books. Actually, yes it’s entirely possible because I am more in love with him!

I love this dynamic. The RH element a very definite favourite of mine. You’ve got both warriors, Auric, the Nora and Novak, the Noir. They balance Layla in a way that I didn’t think anything could HOWEVER, there is a very big shock and awakening for people reading this. It’s exciting and confusing but I am totally here for it!

I absolutely LOVE this world. The imagination these two authors create is just superb!

Heavily awaiting the next instalment. If it’s anything like this one, i know its going to be amazing!

A great second book for this extremely LONG series. 6 books are what’s expected.

Again. I cannot stand a storyline being dragged out for 6 books. Not many authors can pull it off. Not saying these ladies can’t but by the time i am on the 3rd book I am sick of the story and ready to move on.

Why five stars then? Bc it is a damn good book. I am just cranky af bc i have to read so many books, spaced so damn far apart I will forget what i even read 😵‍💫

Even better

Loved this second of Noir Reformatory. Kayla, Auric and Novak bond together to fight everything thrown at them time and time again to finally get some answers but a whole new world of WTFs and twisted plots appears. Long wait for book three but it’ll be worth it. Solid 4.75 stars. Highly recommend

I liked this book but felt it could've been longer. Some parts felt a bit rushed but overall the book was a nice read and a good addition to the series. The characters are great and enjoyable. The story has interesting elements and that twist at the end was nice. Looking forward to see where these two authors take the story next.
