Whooeeee, but this was an exceptionally good read! Love the way the the story unfolds -- and gah, there are reasons I want to list but I can't because of spoilers. Let's just say that both the romance and suspense plots were unexpected in places and I appreciated that.
Love that Macey and Trey have been friends for months and the complexity that comes from Trey having actually grown close to Macey in his undercover role and grappling with the insecurities that come from wondering if she is or isn't a traitor. And on the flip side, there's Macey living her life like an open book completely clueless about all the subterfuge going on around her.
And then, one day danger comes stalking and their lives are turned upside down. Limber up your fingers for the ensuing page-turning extravaganza that follows. And, eeep, stubborn squirrel-fixated husky alert! Kito is a handful of fluff and slobber...and the worst guard dog ever! :-)
If she couldn't trust the people closest to her, how could she trust a God who was far away?
Jodie Bailey again brings her readers a wonderfully fast-paced suspense novel. When Macey Price is out running, she returns to her yard to see lights in the windows. Lights she did not leave on. Two men are searching her house and want to kill her! Macey is at a complete loss as to why. After all, she is a physical therapist with nothing anyone could want.
Trey Blackburn, Macey's neighbor, comes to her rescue that night. An army operative on a mission, this event messes up his mission to make friends with Macey and keep an eye on her for being a traitor to the government. But Trey has serious doubts about this. Is he letting his growing attraction to Macey get in the way of his better judgment? As the threats and attempts on her life ramp up, Trey is determined to get to the bottom of this. IF Macey can live long enough.
Bailey pours on the excitement from the get-go and it never lets up. Constant suspense and a thrilling ride to the very end. I was all in! Recommended.
My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. I received no compensation and the opinion in this review is my own.
Who broke into Macey Price's house and attempt to kidnap her? Why did they tear the house apart looking for something - including Macy's deceased roommate - but leave her room alone? And should she trust her neighbor, Trey Blackburn, or is he hiding something that could hurt her?
Jodie Bailey is one of my favorite novelists, and this book confirms it. If you want cover to cover suspense, you have it in this novel. If you're into mystery and trying to figure out the clues, you'll find it in the pages of this story. If you desire three dimensional characters you can care about, then you'll enjoy this tale.
One question I have is if this is a stand-alone or if it's the fourth part of a quadrology (or what ever you call a four part series). About halfway into this novel, you'll be introduced to characters from Jodie's previous story "Fatal Identity", but you don't need to read that excellent book to appreciate this excellent book.
I highly recommend this novel. It's one of the best stories I've read this year.
I found this book interesting. For it was a mystery, suspense and romance. Jodie did a excellent job of making the story flow. She showed from the beginning the problem Macey Price was having. Then there is the neighbour Trey Blackburn. Who is trying to figure out whether or not she is innocent. It is a fast paced with lots of action, and suspense. Who is the bad guy is a surprise in the end. For its not the person you expect. Jodie does a excellent job of tying up the loose ends at end. It's worth reading. I look forward to Jodie's next book. J
It has one of those Columbo/Murder She Wrote endings where the culprit just basically lays out their plan in its entirety. "And then I did this...and this...and you didn't know, see?"
I didn't foresee the ending. If there was foreshadowing, I didn't notice it, but maybe I was reading too fast. In any event, the hero and heroine felt like fully formed individuals. Their chemistry was fine. The level of detail and thought put into the story felt above average for the genre. This is a three star for me.
This book was so well-written and perfectly paced. I was drawn into the story world, the intrigue, and the danger from the very first scene. I loved how the characters were so well-developed that they jumped off the page.
I literally read this book in ONE. DAY. I can't remember the last time I did that, but once I started, I couldn't stop until I reached the end!
The rating is high because the book brought me a deeper understanding of Isaiah 41:10. I appreciated the way the author wove faith into the story line as the characters came to understand how God is with us in the challenges. The characters are likeable, and the plot was interesting with good suspense.
This wonderful suspense story grabbed my attention from the beginning. The two main characters struggled with trust issues. I enjoyed the storyline and how Jodie Bailey incorporated quotes from the movie Princess Bride into the story.
Guilty deeds often do not see the light of day,, but an innocent Heart shows like the best sunrise you have ever seen.. Forgiveness is what God gives to us,, only to forgive others in the same way..
I loved this book! Jodie Bailey is a fantastic author and I love all of her books. I totally did not think it was gonna end the way it did with the bad guy. She got me on that one. This is a must read!
I just happened to find this book when looking for a clean reading. I really enjoyed it. First book from this author but won’t be the last. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed this story! The characters were good, especially Kito. I liked that not all of the storylines were wrapped up, but that there was room for uncertainty just like life. Overall, a good read.
WELL DONE JODIE BAILEY. THIS SUCCESSFUL AND SPENSEFUL STORY WILL STAY WITH YOU FOR A LONG TIME AND ONE THAT YOU WILL REMEMBER. A VERY WELL WRITTEN STORY LINE. THANKS TO THE AUTHOR.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Under Surveillance. I'm always glad to get one of Jodie's books in the mail. This one wasn't a disappointment. This story is well written, action packed and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.
Macey Price is irritated when she sees her dog out of the house and running free. How did he get out of her house? She had locked him in before she went for a run. When she returns to her home an hour later, (without the dog,) she can see someone in her home. She hears two men talking on her deck. They plan to take her with them. Her dog comes running up and her intruder runs so she runs into the woods only to be caught. Macey teaches self defense and attacks the man the first chance she gets.
Undercover Army Operative Trey Blackburn gets the text he's been waiting for. "Get Macey Price. Now" He has had her under surveillance for some time. They have evidence that Macey is selling government secrets. He finds a white van in her drive. Is she going to flee? As he watches he see Macey thrown over a man shoulder. She's being kidnapped. The dog comes barreling across the yard and knocks over one of the men. Macey grabs the belt of the guy who holds her and does moves Trey hasn't seen before. The men run off. Is Macey innocent or is she being framed?
A terrifying journey as the enemy comes after her as their target and include Trey into the equation. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a plan for peace and not destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him work even in this time of chaos.
This is the best yet by this author. She pulled me in from page one and I was immediately invested in the lives of Macey and Trey as they struggled with the dynamics of friendship, trust, loyalty, and ultimately, love. An example of how the author--in just a few words--gives insight into the main character's (Macey) background and present situation: "HIs baritone voice scraped against her ear. It held the frightening darkness of deep woods, violent sports and too much whiskey. Like her father before he'd left." Few words. A world of meaning.
I also hurt along with Macey in her journey of grief and discovery with her roommate and best friend. The author deals with these issues in surprising and powerful ways, and the reader will not be disappointed.
Another great read from Jodie Bailey! I love being able to read an exciting and suspenseful love story that is God centered.
There’s an independent physical therapist (who might be selling government secrets) and her hottie neighbor who has some secrets of his own! Throw in some seriously scary bad guys, narrow escapes, and cyber security and you have an exciting story that’s easy to read and hard to put down! Macey and Trey might just be my favorite characters yet.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
