When cakes and pies start going missing in the Avalon Café, kitchen witch Gwen Young is convinced someone is breaking into the shop. But why did the security camera only capture static, and how did the thief circumvent the magic ward she placed on the doors? The answer has an unusual festive twist in this heartwarming cozy witch mystery.
Hermione Moon writes cozy witch mysteries with a sprinkling of romance, set in Glastonbury, England. She also writes steamy contemporary romance as Serenity Woods, and is a USA Today bestselling author under that name. She currently lives with her husband in New Zealand.
This was a sweet short story set at Christmas time as Gwen, Arthur, Immie and Christian are enjoying an after dinner drink together. Gwen tells them a story about spooky happenings at the cafe during the Yule time the year before. A heart warming story that reminds readers about the "gift" of giving to those in need.
Hermione Moon’s holiday mystery, THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE KNIGHT takes us back to the Avalon Café where a year ago something unusual took place. A story requested by her friends sees recently married Gwen Young telling her husband Arthur and two others all about food that went missing spookily from her café and how the mystery of where it was going was solved. This was a quick read reminded me of the books that came before and just how much this cozy mystery that includes King Arthur, Guinevere, ghosts, murder, romance and more has been so much fun to read.
A super cute story about giving to those less fortunate at Christmas.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A super cute novella about giving to those less fortunate at Christmas. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I first read Things that Go Bump and the Knight by Hermione Moon in anthology titled Hexes and Holly (Mystic's End). The anthology was great but this was my favorite of all the short novellas. An hour or two tops will finish any of these selections including Things That Go Bump and the Knight so it is not a long read.
Arthur is the Knight that we would all love to know and Gwen is his perfect love. This is a contemporary romance based on the legend. I have read all in The Avalon Café Series, the author’s only series so far. I couldn’t imagine how this would work since the last book in the series has revelations that take place after this novella. Never fear, this master writer gives the reader the main character Gwen telling a story about the past. So even if you are new to this cozy paranormal mystery series you will not be lost or confused. Everything fits in place. Wonderful loved it.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Things that Go Bump and the Knight by Hermione Moon, was a delightful and intriguing story. Kitchen witch Gwen Young has been grieving the death of her mother, yet she knows something strange is going on in her café. Each morning, as they near Christmas, she and her staff have discovered that the extra and leftover baked goods are missing. Yet, no one is entering the café during the night when the place is closed. It isn’t until someone reminds her that her mother always contributed the extra and leftover baked goods to others in need, when Gwen realized what is happening. Ms. Moon created a story that is full of enchantment, legends, along with the perfect mix of suspense, and magic. I was so caught up in the story that I kept reading, finishing this book in one sitting. I highly recommend Things that Go Bump and the Knight and the rest of the anthology to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This short story is magical and fun. Once you read this story you will want to continue with the series of books on the magical return of King Arthur to the modern world and his love of Gwen over hundreds of years. Gwen is a kitchen witch and uses her spells in her baking to help people but she also solves murders in her spare time. She is just learning to use all her special skills with the help of Merlin the dog and of course Arthur who has been entombed in a suit of armor hundreds of years in the area of England known as Avalon. I was fortunate to read all these books when I volunteered to read and review them for Ms. Moon.
Things That Go Bump and the Knight. I enjoyed this book! It was a great little side book to the series. Gwen is asked to tell a story to her friends. She chose a mystery story that reminds her of her mom and Mrs. Russo. Gwen is puzzled when she discovers cakes and pies are missing from the café and nobody she knew took them. A great read! "I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book."
"Things That Go Bump and the Knight" was a wonderfully cute short story in the Avalon Cafe series. Gwen and Arthur are having dinner with Immi and Christian, their close friends, and Gwen tells a story. It was a sweet story about a heartfelt wish that Gwen had made in the past. I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
Who doesn't love cozy mysteries centered around the holidays? This is a short stand-alone story, but is more fun to read if you have read the other Avalon Cafe Mystery books. There's magic, there's holidays, and there's spreading good cheer to those in need. A quick read that you'll enjoy!
Very entertaining read. The series is entertaining and quirky. Sometimes the history is hard for me to follow but it’s still entertaining and delightful.
I originally read this one in the anthology that was released before Christmas time, but I'm happy to see it get it's own standalone edition!
Gwen tells the story about the missing cakes and other baking to Arthur, Immy and Christian as they sit together around the fire, and if you think it's an ordinary ghost story, think again. Ghost stories usually have everything to do about a haunting and getting rid of the ghosts, but this one is much more heartwarming than that.
It's a reminder that to feel good, you should try to do good, and that a good way to help with your own personal pain is to try spreading some love and cheer around to those who need it.
It's a brief, cozy, sweet read, and definitely recommended for when the wind is out and the snow is falling, and you're inside by the fire all wrapped up with your hot cocoa!
A very sweet christmas-time story, it a very pleasant, and very short read, Food is going missing overnight from the Avalon cafe, and that shouldn’t be possible, Gwen has placed spells on the doors to prevent evil entering. Then she finds out where the food is disappearing to, then hears the story of La Befana, an ancient Italian tradition associated with Epiphany. Is there a connection? A surprising discovery, then all is well. Worth reading for the feel good factor, when you have an hour to spare.
This is a lovely short story, just right for Christmastime which although has the characters from the Avalon Cafe series (an Arthurian legend series) is a standalone story. It is a cosy witch story which is appropriate for all ages. If you like it, you will want to read all the rest of them as well as the short story to start off the series “Every Dog has It’s Day”. I recommend them all and can’t wait for the next one in the series.
Hermione Moon's novella was much more than I expected - a social lesson in what the season truly means - the spirit of caring and giving - bravo to the author on this one. Looking forward to the rest of the stories!
