What can a single-minded billionaire CEO and a kind-hearted kindergarten teacher possibly have in common?

Oliver
Spending all my time focusing on making money and building my business doesn’t leave much time to socialize, but I’m not complaining—it keeps my heart safe. Experience has taught me that people are not interested in me as a person, only for what I can do for them.
… until Kate.
She’s like the sun shining through gloomy gray clouds. She sees me for the man I am, not what my bank account can do for her. I can’t forget her, and I don’t understand why, but I’m not walking away.
Will I be able to convince Kate my intentions are genuine?

Kate
Spending my free time volunteering and looking after my elderly neighbor doesn’t leave much time for a relationship, but I don’t mind—it makes me happy. Past relationships have shown me it’s always better to focus on everyone else’s happiness.
… until Oliver.
He’s the hottest, most generous man I’ve ever met. He sees something in me no other man ever has before. I can’t forget him, and I don’t understand why, because he’s way out of my league.
Can I move beyond past hurts to have a future with him?

I loved this book. It’s not often you get grumpy, broody, AND a huge heart without only finding out about the heart in the end. This book does an amazing job of showing the alpha male/caveman possessiveness while still allowing room for modern feminism. A truly unique take and I loved every minute of it! I love books where the female main character is in the wrong at some point. Normalizing that we all make mistakes and judgments, not just men.

A hero with a big heart and a grumpy exterior. A heroine with a heart of gold and a personality full of sunshine. Against all the odds these two find themselves thrown together on more than one occasion proving fate may indeed have a hand in our lives. Oliver and Kate were a breath of fresh air. Add in hilarious and quirky side characters and you'll be turning the pages just to see what happens next.
I was very impressed with this debut novel by Debra St. James and recommend it to anyone that loves a sweet, sexy romance.

Loving Summer is my first book by Debra St James. At first, I had difficulty getting into the story but eventually fell in love with Oliver and Kate’s story. Independent kindergarten teacher meets billionaire workaholic, and it’s mutual lust at first sight. Their chemistry and love were adorable, and the scenes were fun and steamy. Even though the storyline skipped weeks at a time, I still felt like the character development was well thought out. I am considering reading the second book and spin-off, which features characters from this book.

I’d recommend this book for anyone looking for a spicy billionaire romance novel.

A delightful novel with a delectable strong billionaire male lead in desperate need of an ardent taming in bed, and a beautiful inside-and-out female lead who is just the woman to take on all of that hotness. Lots of will-they-won't-they, plenty of gorgeous misunderstanding, melt-your-heart philanthropic altruism, and a sumptious happily-ever-after!

In this first novel of the Summer Twins Series, Debra St James has produced a fabulous elan full of wistful hope, romantic joy, and electric chemistry. I learned a lot from her writer's voice, and enjoyed it immensely! 👍👍👍

At first I wasn't all that into Oliver but then he grew on me. Ending turned out exactly how I wanted it to.

Good start!

3.5 stars for this debut novel.

The story is about Oliver, a workaholic billionaire who doesn't have friends except his personal assistant. And Kate, a kindergarten teacher who has sunny disposition but has insecurities about love. They met as volunteers and although there was an attraction, nothing happened until after a year passed.

I like the premise of the story but I feel like there's a disconnect in emotions. I wish the author explored more on Oliver's past and his relationship with his father. The storytelling is just that, storytelling like relaying something with detachment on characters. And the ending with Oliver's ex i think is a cop out. If you're going to make someone a villain, go all the way and use it to make the story more intense. Too much sex scenes for me that don't contribute to the storyline. This is just the beginning of the author's writing journey, so I hope she will grow and gets better as she writes more.

Debra sent me this as a gift on my birthday and I can't thank her enough. ON seeing the book cover and the blurb I was instantly ready for a good read and this book was wonderful.

It really is a nice and lovely read both the characters are strong in their own right and really lead the story to its final destination. Oliver is a sexy billionaire who owns a company in corporate investments who had a difficult upbringing when his mother died at an early stage of his life and his father charged for her death and heading to prison. He was left in the system and didn't have the best of experiences being a quiet and lonely young boy but he flourished in his school life and worked his way up to building his extremely successful business. The only downfall is he finds it hard to let women and people into his life. He is used to being alone and dealing with his work, especially after his ex left him for a wealthier man.

Kate is a beautiful down to earth kindergarten teacher who seriously has a heart of gold. She puts everyone first and is always about to help others less fortunate than herself. Especially the child of the Parkerville Project which unbeknown to her Oliver is a big benefactor of. Kate is a flurry of activity she buries herself in work and helping everyone else to hide away from life and relationships. Her past experiences have left her with a serious lack of confidence in herself and also given her huge trust issues. Letting people in is soo hard for her and throughout this book, we see the struggles she faces in overcoming her fears and deep-seated negativity surrounding herself.

Oliver and Kate first meet whilst he is helping in the construction of one of the schools for which he helps fund the projects and Kate are there to help set up the teachers and the schooling. Their desire and connection for each other are literally instant and both can't take the other from their mind even when apart. It takes them 15 months to finally find each other at a chance meeting for another project in helping the community. Yet again their connection is off the charts but Kate puts her walls up and makes Oliver seriously do some more in grinding them down to let him in.

Oliver is patient, kind and Loving with Kate he helps her slowly lower her walls to let him and their story is truly beautiful I found myself smiling along with the story, at the beautiful words they share with each other and the sex scenes were pretty hot as well. This really is a lovely romantic story with a few twists and turns that life shoves at them but nothing too heavy. It was magical and I enjoyed it. My favourite character though has got to be Margie, she stole the show with her candidness and witty remarks she is funny and makes you laugh along with her.

My only critique for this book and the reason I am giving it my rating is that I felt it at times was a little too detailed in places where it didn't need to be and not enough in other places I thought there could have been, also at a couple of points and I only mean a couple of points it was like I was reading a list of what was happening rather than feeling like I was watching the events unfold. The truth is this doesn't distract from the story and it really does deserve to be read so go grab a copy.

My rating for this is 4 💋💋💋💋

This was my first book by author Debra St. James but it won't be my last!! She writes a good book with great characters, lots of fun, and some curse words! The author starts the book with an apology to the readers that we are all flawed and that there may be some typo's, misspellings, or punctuation errors and this made the reader overlook them when they did pop up because she admitted that they may be there.

The very first word in this book is a swear word - the swear word, and I LOVED it!! It set the pace of the story and it grabbed the reader's attention and never let it go!! The author weaved a tale that grabbed the reader's attention and created a world that the reader never wanted to leave! The character's were flawed, they were fun and they felt like friends.

The reader wanted to root for the characters to get together, to stay together to make things work! The reader gets invested in the story, the characters, the plot. The author draws the reader into their world and never lets it go...and the reader doesn't actually want to leave. Kate is the person that we all aspire to be and Oliver has most of the same qualities but just needs to hone them into being the perfect person. They just can't figure out how to make things work but hopefully they can get it right and keep things together!

This is a must read and a must read NOW! Add this to your TBR list and move it to the top! It is a good read that will leave you with a book hangover that rivals all hangovers.

5 ⭐️

Loving Summer is Debra’s debut novel, and the writing is exceptional.
I can’t believe this is Debra’s first book, you won’t be disappointed that’s for sure.

Can you say grumpy billionaire who has such a big heart he just makes you swoon — ♥️

Olly (Oliver) is such a grump, but he will make your heart melt, when he wants something or in this case SOMEONE he won’t give up.

Do you believe in fate?
This book will certainly make you believe in it.

Oliver and Kate are the perfect couple, I wouldn’t of paired them with anyone else.
Kate has self-esteem issues due to past relationships and men stepping out on her, but can Oliver help her see that she is the one for him?

𝗢𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 - “𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜’𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲.”

Oliver has not been 100% honest with Kate, will his lies destroy what they’ve built?

I highly recommend this debut novel, everything about this book makes me so happy.
The secondary characters in this book are also so very well written.

What a lovely read! This is a slow-burn romance between Kate a sweet kindergarten teacher, and Oliver, a corporate billionaire. Well written and with a lovely backstory, the characters are well developed and you can see the attraction between them. Too often romance stories are, "wham! and they fell in love." Not here. A lovely tapestry is woven of how these two should have been together, and that makes the story even more believable.
Hot AF sex scenes, a HEA and enough rough patches in their journey make this a wonderful and enjoyable read.

Block off a few hours for this one. Don't do what I did and start reading late at night. This is a book you won't want to put down, and one of those wonderful rare pieces of work that stay with you the next day. I am genuinely looking forward to the next one.

A really really good debut novel by Debra St James!

A grumpy, sexy Billionaire? ... check

A bubbly girl who doesn't get why the hot guy is in to her? .... check

An elderly neighbour lacking a filter, and wanting the best for her favourite girl? ..... check

Oliver is the quintessential grumpy boss billionaire with an assistant who organises his participation on certain projects, to try to improve public perception of his boss. On one of these projects, Oliver meets Kate. She's bubbly with a track record of dating men who aren't good guys.

There are secrets that need to come out before they can put the past behind them so that they can move forward, and finally find their happy ending.

Debra has written a great book. These characters had so much growth throughout the book. It was so nice to be able to follow that growth. This is not a short book. I definitely enjoyed it and will read more books from this author.
Oliver is a man stuck in his routine of a workaholic lonely man. He has been through so much. From foster care to billionaire. The past relationships have shown him that people don’t actually care about him only his money.
Kate is a kindergarten teacher who puts others before herself. Past relationships have given her a low self esteem when it comes to men. They have hurt her profoundly. So, what happens when Oliver sets his sights on her? Can they find their happily ever after or will their pasts get in the way?

Wow what a great start to a new series,  I  love Debra's writing style as it just flows from the pages, It is very well written  with a great plotline. I found all the characters  were loveable; from our grumpy leading man Oliver who doesn’t  believe in love until one day he meets a bubbly ray of sunshine kindergarten  teacher, Kate. He will do anything just to be part of her life (even crash a family dinner) but before they can get together properly a few secrets have to be shared. Throw in a few hilarious and quirky side characters and you have a fantastic  book that I could not put down. I didn’t  want it to end and really cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Cute insta-interested (on Oliver’s part) billionaire meets normal sweet woman. I understand this is a debut book by this Author and I give her props for the subject matter. But in the it’s me and not the story, Kate’s reaction to Oliver was OTT once she finds out just how wealthy he was with no good reason other than not picking the right boyfriends in high school. I don’t think all the drama was warranted. And as Oliver’s status proved and everyone advised Kate, he could have any woman on the planet and he chose her but her constant feeling of betrayal because he didn’t show her his stock portfolio upfront was immature.

Debra St James’ Loving Summer is a lovely lovely story. I am avoiding spoilers when I say the main characters - I could almost say antagonist and protagonist …. but I am not going to label them - are well rounded and believable. They have qualities and faults. I did not agree with everything Oliver said (c’mon man, take people as you find them) and I was a little surprised at how Kate addressed some challenges (accept a bloody compliment girl!). But these little vulnerabilities just added to the depth of the characters and to the story.
There are some twists along the way and some spice, no seriously, some serious spice, that kept me page turning. And a sign of a good novel - the supporting characters are brilliant, not least of all the kids from … nope I’m not saying! And don’t get me started on Toby and Margie!
Well crafted and totally enjoyed. I shall be taking the next in the series on holiday with me.
Did I mention the spicy bits? Dead hot.

Good Book

This is a well written love story about Oliver who has faced loneliness after a tragedy when he was 7 years old and Kate who is the sunshine he never knew he needed.
After being hurt by a previous girlfriend Oliver has sworn off women or falling in love and has been a playboy around town.
Kate has been hurt too many times by previous boyfriends so her wall around her heart is well and truly solid.
Then they meet and we’ll Oliver knows from his first glimpse he wants her but is shocked at the fact it’s not just for sex but Kate is going to be a hard nut to crack as her previous relationships have left her with little confidence in herself but Oliver is going to change her life for the better.
Not too much drama just a little stalker issue with his ex and Kate does act like a brat when she learns Oliver’s secret (I wanted to slap her) but good old Margie sorts her out.
I absolutely adore Margie in this and loved what they did when they moved and the kids all sounded adorable.
Good romantic story with lots of hot sex scenes throughout the book and a HEA, what more could you ask for.

Oliver & Kate

Oliver is a grumpy workaholic... until he meets Kate! She surprises him & instantly makes a connection. Kate is sunshine (and that becomes his nickname for her), full of warmth.

I love the majority of their story! Oliver's obsession does get a little stalkery (not a problem) & Kate has her head in the sand a bit, which leads to an SOB (SEEMINGLY OBLIGATORY BREAKUP) that is never my favorite thing.

I did quite enjoy that Oliver was finally able to get through to Kate and help her gain back the confidence previous suitors had damaged. And the ending several chapters are so much fun! 😁

Their story is full of sweet, spice, friends & family time, and healing for both Kate & Oliver. I love the supporting cast a lot, too!! 💚

Congratulations on a fantastic debut novel. I love my Billionaire romance and this was a fantastic read.
Kate is a sweet and quiet kindergarten teacher with a huge heart, helping out where ever and when ever she can. It takes a couple of hiccups to get her happy ending but she believes in her man when it matters.
Oliver is your typical business, busy, moody, solitary and guarded but when he meets Kate that all disappears. When he finally gets his girl he makes sure he does everything to keep her.

So, this is a new author to me and the premise definitely caught my attention. The book is a long one and there were a couple of times that it seemed like it dragged for me but that happened two or three times only. Oliver and Kate are a cute couple. I love how Oliver just went all in and was very aware of Kate's feelings and would try to protect her. Kate had some bad relationships in the past and is relationship shy. Oliver doesn't quit and just keeps going for her. I liked this story and I'm looking forward to the next book.

This is a sweet romance between Oliver and Kate. The author brings strong characters and weaves a realistic story. She does a great job developing the relationship ,taking them on a journey filled with ups and downs and a few twists along the way. Adding in drama, humor and the romance she delivers a beautiful love story. It's well written and is an enjoyable read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

I found this book to be quite good in some parts and dragging in others. I love the chemistry between Kate and Oliver and the tie ins with his childhood!

It was a bit slow for me to get into, and some words and scenes became quite repetitive, but overall I enjoyed it and their HEA! I will probably read about Emma and Toby as I am invested in their story now too.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys smut, HEA and wants something light and easy to read!

This is the first in a new series and well as being a debut from this author. Oliver is a grumpy billionaire who has a huge heart, and Kate is a kind and caring kindergarten teacher, who does voluntary work, and neither character is looking for a relationship. When Oliver and Kate cross paths the chemistry between them is undeniable. This is a good story which has secrets, humor, witty banter, quirky secondary characters, and love, which leads to an entertaining and steamy all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.

This was a new to me author that I decided to try and I'm very glad I did. Oliver and Kate deliver all the feels, all the emotion and all the swoon that your heart can handle and they do it with a heart tugging sweetness that is simply beautiful. Drama, humor and some twists are woven throughout the engaging storyline that once I started I just did not want to put down. I will definitely be reading more books by this author. This is my volitional, forthright review.

This almost became a DNF but I powered through it. It got better around midway through the book. The writing wasn't my favorite - I wish there was more verbal conversation rather than writing about it. For example, I'd rather read about an argument between two characters instead of "oh we argued about this last night and went to bed angry". It was tough liking characters without getting to know them through their communication with other characters.
There were also some discrepancies, like the H said he didn't know where the h lived, but yet, he found her house three sentences later. The word sweet was used to describe people often; there's better words! Also, the personalities of the H and h kept changing. Is he arrogant? Is she timid?

I don't think I'd read the other part of this series (h's brother).

This is not your typically billionaire romance story. I loved how the author focused on the deeds of the main characters and how they volunteered their time to give back to the community. Even with the background of Oliver, it wasn't purely focused on the money that his character had and how rich he was like other billionaire stories. I thought it was so sweet to see how the history of Oliver and Kate came full circle. There were spicy moments in this book!

This story was right up my alley. It started a bit slow for me, and it had its moments where I would get a bit frustrated with the female lead. But overall I ended up falling in love with the story…and Oliver. He was a bit of a control freak, a bit rough around the edges, but his character totally won me over. If you’re into romance stories and want a easy, light read, then I would say to give this book a try. The relationship between the characters really does build up nicely, and it was predictable but in a good way.

3.5 stars for a lovely debut novel

I’m a sucker for a grumpy jerk and a sunshine sweetheart. (I’m grumpy and my husband is sunshine 😂) I enjoy it when opposites attract, they balance one another out. Oliver is grumpy but he does have a gooey centre, only those he lets in get to see it.

Looking forward to book two!

"Loving Summer" by Debra St James
A graphic Billionaire story
I liked the story, although there was a whole lot more detailed sex than I cared to read, thus it was a quicker read with all those skipped pages.
Note: I received an ARC via StoryOrigin. This review is my honest opinion.
