Uni is looking for the perfect birthday present for her friend Suki. Uni doesn't know what to give her, so she asks others for advice. But are the gift ideas of a crow or beaver right for a unicorn?
This would be a great book to use to introduce the concept of love languages for kids, specifically the idea of quality time with others being one of the best gifts for some people. The pattern followed here is reminiscent of Are You My Mother? with a creature asking successive other creatures for advice and getting a wide variety of not quite right answers. Hand this to unicorn lovers, and kids who need more personalized ideas for gift-giving.
It's Silky's birthday and Uni wants to give Silky a gift. Uni asks advice from a mouse, a crow, and a beaver, but what they think would make a special gift isn't quite special in Uni's eyes. But then, Uni gets an idea and makes the perfect gift for Silky.
This is a good book about personalized gift giving, especially for little ones. I also liked how gracious Silky was, because even though Uni didn't think the gifts she gave based on the other animals' recommendations were special, Silky was appreciative and kind in thanking Uni for each gift.
What present could Uni give her bestie that's magnificent enough to express her gratitude for a great friend? Other forest animals have unhelpful suggestions, until Uni learns that you don't need to buy every shiny new toy you see in TV commercials. In fact you can appreciate the toys you already have and the time spent playing with your friends. Okay, so I may have extrapolated a bit to serve my own parenting purposes, but this book works well as a tool to teach my kids to be grateful for the small things, the intangible things, and the time spent with loved ones.
Totally thought this would be a Christmas type book, but it's actually a birthday present type book. That being said, this book would make a great gift to someone who loves unicorns and is at this level of reading (Level 2). The illustrations are just like the ones in the Uni picture books and lovely as ever. The story is really cute as well, especially the ending. So sweet.
Uni tries in vain to find her best friend Silky the perfect gift for her birthday. After spending the day together, Uni finally gives Silky the perfect gift.
