Rate this book
Dr. Alma Decker, professor of marine biology, thought her life was right on track until a chance meeting with a mysterious stranger turned everything upside down. When operative Dirk Travers sights Alma across a busy coffee shop during a reconnaissance mission, he can’t get her off his mind. Although it quickly becomes clear that she’s a distraction he can’t afford, Dirk wonders if she’s worth the risk. His career has proven again and again the depravity of those in power, but when a devious politician turns a vengeful eye on Dirk and Alma, Travers questions his ability to protect all that he loves. They’ll have to call on all their resources, not least of all their commitment to each other. Can Dirk and Alma’s relationship survive the intricacies of Dirk’s dangerous career? More importantly, will they survive?

With a similar love for coffee and reading, Dirk and Alma meet at a coffee shop and begin a cozy romance. But the rugged Dirk is hiding his dangerous job with the CIA from the lovely scientist that has caught his eye. Learning about love he’d never thought he wanted, Dirk falls head over heels for Alma only to have it all threatened when a powerful politician he’s been spying on threatens her life.

Knowing his violent and secretive career puts her in danger, he begins the delicate dance of should I stay or should I go. The overall tone of the book was a very sweet romance with some rich inner conflict from Dirk and some light action and suspense.

It’s around chapter 8 that things really get going. There are a lot of great details about whales and the marine world.

There is a part 1 & 2/3, that really feels like two books for the price of one 😊 I don’t want to give anything away, but it adds some lovely family dynamics.

Wow, this was such a good book! Loved the cover that I got interested in! Love how both main characters met in a coffee shop, and it all started from there. It was a beautifully well-written story! Alma and Dirk are such an interesting pairing and it kept me wanting to read the story until the very end. Dirks life...my god! Even though he tried to keep his work life from his own life it was so hard. I am not going to say anything because I will not spoil. If you like drama then this is the book for you!

I read Rosendale's other book All's Fair and loved it so much I immediately downloaded this baby. It did not disappoint. Now having read All's Fair I knew there was going to be a twist or two in this one and Rosendale did not disappoint. It had romance, espionage and drama galore. I absolutely recommend this book. Waiting rather impatiently for the next one!!

A chance encounter at a coffee shop leads to an unexpected relationship for Alma and Dirk. A romance, sure, but Dirk’s dangerous job seems to spill into his private life, making for a dramatic read.
