Plumber Jessica Lemond is determined not to follow in her parents footsteps by living off her famous grandfather's fortune. However, Snowflake Lodge - with its oddball staff and very dodgy plumbing - is not how it appears in the brochure.

3.5 rounded up!

This is much different than what I normally read, but I’m happy to say I enjoyed it and I’m glad I read it. Ward is actually a talented writer—this was evident to me quickly. The prose is thoughtful and pleasant to read. The book has some comedic moments and a few mysteries that kept me interested.

Sometimes lighter fare is called for, and this scratched that itch just fine for me. The book is about a plumber from southern England named Jessica who follows her rich and famous uncle to a resort lodge in the Scottish Highlands. He is a 92 year old comedian, and as active as ever—except in this case his much younger wife has just died under seemingly suspicious circumstances, and there is a private investigator hot on her trail. Meanwhile Christmas is approaching and the snow is piling up outside, possibly trapping them all at the lodge.

The book has quite a few little subplots and characters, one of the funniest and most obnoxious being Doreen, a whiney woman who complains about everything—she’s renting a room in Jessica’s house back home and is the world’s worst renter. This book is tagged as romance on here, but I should let anyone reading it for that reason know that while there is a romantic subplot here, it’s really a very small aspect of this book. There are no steamy sex scenes or anything of the sort, though we do get a fantastic description of a naked 92 year old man enjoying a dip in the local hot spring. Titillating!

Overall, I suppose this is what you would call a “cozy” holiday read. It’s light, nothing too serious happens, it’s got a great setting and Ward goes heavy on the descriptive language to really put you there. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book like this before, but for what it is I enjoyed it. Sometimes taking a break from darker and denser reads can be rewarding, and I’m glad I decided to give this little book a go.

This was the perfect type of book to get you in a complete Christmassy mood! A type of book you curl up with, with a hot chocolate, blanket and a roaring fire! A lovely heart warming story!

In this book we meet Jessica Lemond, unlike her parents who are living off her grandfather's fortune , she is a plumber... actually not just a plumber a very good one ! When her grandad elopes to Scotland , Jessica is happy to head to his lodge Snowflake Lodge along with her trainee Kirsten. The characters we meet at the lodge are so wonderful to read about , they each add more depth , humour and mystery too the book.

The setting of the Snowflake Lodge is perfect for this storyline , you can imagine everything playing out as you are reading it , seeing all the secrets seeping out from the woodwork. An absolutely brilliant read ! Perfect for this time of year.

This was from start to end an enjoyable festive read. It was interesting with giving us bit of romance, family drama and mystery. The author has given beautiful scenery, great Christmas spirit and lovely surrounding.

Jessica is plumber by profession and doesn't intend to live life on her grandfather's wealth like her parents. She wants to earn everything with her work. To run of her trouble some flatmate, and all that was happening in Bristol, she went to Scotland to check on her grandfather who mysteriously went there. I absolutely loved his character, he is hilarious and strong for someone who is ninety two.

Jessica is amazing and you come to know her well as you move along. All the characters were fun and interesting. The detailing by the author makes me want to visit the countryside admiring the twinkling lights. It is perfect escape and cozy read.

Thank you Rachel's Random Resources for having me on this tour.

This was a lovely little festive read and a great way to kick off the festive season. I also read another book by this author this time last year and loved it too, this author has a way of creating a beautiful wintery and Christmassy atmosphere which completely pulls you in and makes you want to be there! Snowflake Lodge sounds amazing and the perfect place to go for a wintery getaway. I also loved the characters, including the eccentric grandfather and the nightmare lodger Doreen! This contained everything needed for a seasonal read and also a little bit of mystery and intrigue thrown in, a perfect festive treat ❄️

This is book five of the Delightful Christmas series and sees plumber Jessica Lemond fed up with her living arrangements, having the tenant from hell living with her, Doreen. Doreen basically pushes Jessica out of her own flat in Bristol, to invite her rowdy mates round to watch football or some other sport and cause chaos. She always expects Jessica to be working in the evenings, as her business advertises her availability at those times. She has always worked hard, not liking the example her parents give of never having a job and spending all of her grandpa’s hard earned money on trips away and treats for themselves. They seldom seem to even think of Jessica, even with the holidays coming up. Jessica was hoping to be working hard over the upcoming Christmas holidays with a load of frozen pipes and other emergencies, allowing her to pay off some of bills. But her dad has asked her to go up to a lodge in Scotland where her grandfather has run off to, hiding from the questioning of the police after the sudden death of his much younger third wife! He is ninety two and was a famous comedian during his day and that was how he made his fortune. Now he has a gig at this lodge and her father expects her to drop everything and go and check on him!
Jessica also has a trainee plumber Kristen working with her that she is expected to continue training and getting away from the disaster zone that her tenant is making of her home, is sounding more and more appealing every day. Jessica checks the lodge’s vacancy board and finds they need a plumber and maintenance person for the winter season and she applies. She is offered the job and instead of driving her van up, ends up borrowing a motorbike and sidecar combo from her dad’s garage, hoping to hide away from a strange man who knocked on the door looking for her parents and saying he was a P.I. investigating her grandfather’s wife’s death. They make it nearly all the way to the lodge, but run out of petrol and are rescued by a pair of local men, James Wilcox and his brother Henry, who had been looking for an escaped reindeer. I kid you not! The lodge, when they reach it the next day, is massive and an old building, with what she finds out are ancient pipes in dire need of repair. The staff are mostly friendly and welcoming, although a few are a bit odd. They both get loads of free time to explore the surroundings and make the most of the facilities on offer. There is beautiful wintery Scottish scenery, loads of hot chocolate and an endless supply of mince pies. In fact, there are a few strange rules they must all obey, like wearing a Christmas hat at all times, holding a cup of hot chocolate or similar when around the guests indoors, to crazy Christmas jumpers.
James has a herd of reindeer that the lodge uses for sleigh rides for their guests and she keeps seeing him about. She always seems to be on her phone when he runs into her, as only a few places have a signal in the area of the lodge, but she is really hearing the latest disastrous news from her tenant, about what she and her friend have broken now, that is all her fault as the landlord! She finds it difficult to tie down her grandfather and actually speak to him, as he has a bevy of women always in his rooms and lots of fans about the place who want his attention. He has sent home mention of getting married again, which worries her dad, thinking his easy life might end abruptly once a new wife is in charge! Jessica gets to chase after him when he is seemingly doing loads of dangerous activities, considering his age, but finds James carting him about mainly. She makes friends with three old women who are regular visitors and a bit more, as well as the handyman Mr Dawes, helping with Christmas preparations at some of the outdoor sites and beginning to fall in love with what she sees all around her. It doesn’t hurt that she and James are finally on the same page about each other and she could have a chance of something more, if she didn’t have a business in Bristol to get back to. Lots of the joys of Christmas and great scenery, with some slightly wacky characters and a bit of fun along the way. A lovely family atmosphere amongst the staff and lovely surroundings soon make her wish for more in life and decisions have to be made about her future, while she has to also sort out her grandfather’s past and his relationships. A lovely read that warms your spirit and gives you a bit of fun along the way. I certainly hope I never have a flatmate or tenant like Doreen! A thoroughly enjoyable read and leaves you wanting more. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not usually an audio book person. I get distracted by all the other responsibilities I have to get done that day and my mind wanders too much. But this one was an exception. And I'm pretty sure it's because of the narrator.

Premise: Self employed plumber Jessica Lemond has always been one to make her own wealth through hard work instead of living off her famous grandfather's wealth. When her grandfather takes off for Snowflake Lodge in the Highlands of Scotland after being accused of killing his much younger wife, Jessica decides to get to the bottom of it. She takes a holiday gig at Snowflake Lodge as their resident plumber, hoping she can not only learn the truth about her grandfather, but also escape the burden of her disastrous flatmate, Doreen.

What I enjoyed about this novel: the characters were well developed and stayed true to their personalities the entire novel. There was nothing really surprising about each character, per se, but they were consistent in their mannerism and conversations and I appreciated that the author took the time to really give each character a full resume. The plot was simple, but effective. I wasn't looking for a detailed, multi-world masterpiece, but something I could listen to while walking the dog and be entertained enough not to let my thoughts wander to what we were having for dinner or the chores I needed to do when I got home. Success! I actually found myself looking forward to pulling up the audio book and ended up listening to it while in the car waiting in the school pick up line, walking the dog and even while in the shower.

I think a lot of the success of this book was because of the narrator. She had a fun British accent that I found pleasing to listen to. She could have differentiated a little more between the characters, but overall it was a good enough reading. I would have liked her to have more of a Scottish accent with some of the native characters, but it didn't take away too much from the story.

Is this one that's going to knock your socks off? No. But it's entertaining, it's cute, and it wraps up all the questions at the end. It's great for a quick read after you've finished a 'heavy' novel.

Jessica Lemond may be the grand-daughter of a legendary performer, but she is determined to earn her own way in the world. Her parents enjoy spending the wealth that the star earned, but not Jessica. She’s a plumber and shares rent with a despicable character, Doreen. Doreen’s complete existence seems to be torturing Jessica at every turn, all the while destroying their flat.

When Jessica’s parents beg her to keep watch over the grandfather, she finds the perfect way to do that. Since the elder Lemond is spending the holidays at the Snowflake Lodge in Scotland, she would have to go there. Then, she finds that she can take a winter job there as the plumber. This is great for her and she also gets to escape Doreen.

Getting to this remote lodge in the deep winter snow isn’t so easy. She takes along her plumber trainee, Kirsten and they head to the lodge on a motorcycle with sidecar. This isn’t the best way to travel, but they end up being rescued by the handsome James and his reindeer.

This book is filled with humor and plenty of holiday festivity. There are so many fun characters in this book! The grandfather is a skirt chaser and Jessica can barely keep up with him as he is always on an adventure in the snow. Jessica is such a hard worker and ends up with the opportunity to create her own wealth, but what will her future be?

I give this book a PG rating for some bad language and mature situations. The romance itself is clean.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

'Christmas at Snowflake Lodge' by CP Ward is the fifth book in her Delightful Christmas series and tells the story between Jessica, who is a plumber by trade and refuses to live off her grandfather's wealth like her parents, and James, who is a jack-of-all-trades and runs the reindeer sleigh rides during winter. Jessica and James meet when her motorbike runs out of gas on the way to Snowflake Lodge. Due to the cold and the snow Jessica and Kristin, her trainee, were invited to spend the night at James' place and then go to the lodge the next morning. Jessica is going to the lodge to track down her wily grandfather who is being accused of murdering his third wife. Jessica and Kirsten end up getting jobs at the lodge thus allowing them a cover while trying to help her grandfather. James finds Jessica intriguing and offers to help get rid of the PI that is trying to track down her grandfather.

Ms. Ward has written an intriguing addition to her series. The chemistry between Jessica and James is sweet and hot. This story has mystery, drama, thefts, family meddling, laughs, passion, and a sweet romance. Jessica's grandfather is hilarious with all the trouble he causes and gets into. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of mystery with their romance.

This was such a lovely Christmas book set in an absolutely gorgeous part of the countryside, the lake itself sounds absolutely exquisite and I can just picture myself skating around admiring all the lights twinkling away. It really would be an amazing destination for a winter holiday, away from the turmoils of day to day life.

Jessica could have been a completely different character if she’d taken after her mother and father but her determination to succeed on her own merits made me like her a lot more. I did sometimes wish she had a bit more gumption when it came to Doreen though…. Oh that woman was not on my list of favourites! The way she treated Jessica was horrible and plain rude and I really hoped that Jess would manage to either get her out of the house or move out herself.

And then we had the personal investigator, another character that I didn’t really like. This guy had my shackles raised and his nature made me really wary, I kept thinking he was going to pop up and start being forceful.

The fact that I had these reactions to the characters just shows what a good job Ward does, his descriptions are so vivid that you feel like you’re right there with them all. And I have to point out, they’re not all bad characters! Grandad made me chuckle with his out of the ordinary and younger than life approach to everything, Mr Dawes gave me that warm feeling you get when you think of grandparents and where to start on James… I think I’ll leave that one up to you ;)

Christmas at Snowflake Lodge by CP Ward

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily

This is the first book I have read in the series and I did feel like I was missing a lot of the backstory but nevertheless I was able to keep up with the story and still enjoyed reading this book. This is an easy, enjoyable, quick, festive read - perfect to escape into on a cold evening.

A wonderful romance coupled with bouts of humour and mystery.

The humour in this festive novel is the first thing that strikes you as you read it. It is absolutely the life blood of the story. All the members of Jessica's family are larger than life and her disastrous lodger's behaviour leaves me open mouthed. When Jessica arrives at Snowflake Lodge, there is a varied cast of characters who continue the humour. It certainly feels like its own little world, far away from civilisation.

Jessica is an interesting central character. As you learn about her background, you come to understand her behaviour and see her vulnerabilities. There is a slow burn romance in the background which adds charm to this gentle, festive tale. If you are looking for festive touches, you will find many at this place which seems dedicated to the season. With snow, Santa hats, reindeer and hot chocolate, it captures the flavour of the time. There is a twist at the end which I did not see coming but which shows you all Jessica's good qualities.

In short: Family values, humour and festive touches

This book was okay - but not my favorite. The story jumped around way too much and each character had a million other things going on with them. I feel like that degraded everything. Jessica, the main character, was a plumber. Who had super rich parents and she refused to accept their money so she could make it on her own. She had a flatmate that totally took advantage of her and she let her do it - she basically kicked Jessica out of her own flat. Jessica ran off to look for her 92 year old grandfather who just buried his much younger wife - oh, and he is accused of murdering her. Jessica has an apprentice that followed her to a resort in Scotland where Jessica assisted her of stealing candy bars so the apprentice ran in a blizzard. She came back later and fell in love with the crazy flatmate’s friend. This goes on and on. Too many side stories that definitely dilute the story.

Snowflake Lodge . . .

Jessica, who is a plumber, doesn’t want to live off her grandfather's wealth like everyone else does. When her grandfather is accused of murdering his third wife and takes off to Scotland, Jessica and Kirsten, her trainee, follow to track him down and clear up this “situation”.

James works an assortment of jobs and runs the reindeer sleigh rides during winter. He and Jessica meet as her motorbike runs out of gas on the way to Snowflake Lodge. He invites Jessica and Kirsten to stay at his home and proceed to the Lodge in the morning.

Jessica and Kirsten take jobs at the lodge so they can secretly help her grandfather. Are they able to clear his name? Will Jessica and James begin to fall for each other in such a romantic setting? Is there a HEA on its way?

Jessica, James, Hilarity, and good Christmas Cheer

I loved this romance set within a mystery set within a barrel of laughs. Jessica can't seem to win for losing with every possible thing going wrong in her life. Her trip to Snowflake Lodge is really an escape that becomes the best decision ever for her. James has his own heartache and gets to see whether he can let another person into his life and his heart during the holiday season. The secondary characters are not only funny, but filled with great one-liners. The pacing is excellent. I found myself laughing from the start and feeling touched at various times. The charitable nature of humanity rings throughout this novel and that makes it not just a page turner, but a keeper.

Can I please go to Snowflake Lodge for Christmas? It’s a magical place with decorations and hot chocolate and the nicest staff. There’s skiing and ice skating and sleigh rides pulled by real reindeer. Jessica is there to work – she’s a plumber, and to keep an eye on her grandfather. She’s also escaping from her terrible renter/roommate. Honestly, I wanted to escape from Doreen too. I didn’t enjoy the scenes with Doreen and her friends. She was a really awful person and I don’t understand why Jessica put up with any of it.

Once Jessica decides to take the job at Snowflake Lodge, the book becomes a fun read. Grandpa is a great character, funny and adventurous, and maybe a bit of a skirt chaser. Jessica’s love interest, James, is sexy and sweet. Christmas at Snowflake Lodge is part romance and part family reunion, and almost everyone gets a happy ending.

Thank you to Rachels Random Resources and C.P. Ward for gifting me a digital copy of Christmas at Snowflake Lodge in exchange for an honest review.
In Christmas at Snowflake Lodge we follow Jessica Lemond a plumber who refuses her family money to keep a float but has ended up with a live in tenant from hell, a granddad on the run and parents more interested in living the high life on money they didn’t earn for themselves. With a life in chaos Jessica decides to find her granddad and take a temporary job in Scotland.
I really enjoyed following Jessica on herself discovery in Scotland. It was a heart-warming story that I loved losing myself in. How I wish I could visit Snowflake Lodge with a hot chocolate and staff in Christmas hats (mandatory or not)

Jessica wanted a lifestyle as different from her parents as possible and decided to become a plumber. She has her own business, lives on her own money and is proud to do so. But when her father asks her to check on her grandfather at a lodge in Scotland over the Christmas holidays, she is hesitant until she finds out that they are looking for a plumber for the winter season. Together with her apprentice she goes to Scotland, to the Lodge to find that many things are different from what they seem, but not in a bad way.
A Hallmark-like story, a nice, clean story where everyone ends up happy.

SANTA HATS REQUIRED
Wonderful characters in a beautiful setting! Slow build up.
I didn't like Jessica very much to start. She was a doormat and let her domineering bully renter walk all over her. She grew a lot through the story and got some personal strength. Searching for her grandfather, she is lucky enough to get a job where he is hiding out after being a suspect in his wife's death. James is a sweet man that she is instantly attracted to. The romance doesn't really develop until the end. There is some mystery and it's overall a good read.

This was hard to get into. I was tired of Christmas music and needed to listen to something else. I like a good Christmas movie so I chose Christmas at Snowflake Lodge.

What I didn’t like was the over thinking on the part of the main character while we (the reader) is anticipating the next move. I dont want to here all of her thoughts and then all of her feelings on those thoughts. Especially when she doesn’t have the courage to say any of those thoughts out loud. Just get on with it already.

Once she gets her new winter job at Snowflake Lodge everything changes. I started liking the book and wanting to know what happens next.

I give Christmas at Snowflake Lodge 3 out of 5 reindeer

This book was not really enjoyable at all. I did not feel vested in any character or storyline at all. I think it had to do with the very toxic Doreen character. Jessica, the main character, is supposed to be this independent, confident woman yet she let's her renter walk all over her?
And I did not feel the "romance" of the story.
I found I skimmed through a lot of the book just to see where it was going and how it would end.
Not even sure why I bothered with the book, since all previous ones I read by the author did not warrant more than 2 or 3 stars. I don't think I will be reading any more by her.
I will say, the lodge sounds like a fun place.
Narrator was just ok.

Fun, light, Christmas book, with a great heroine!
This is a fun, light Christmassy book, and was a joy to read. Why am I so enthusiastic? Well, the main protagonist, in a romantic, Christmassy book, is a young woman who is a plumber, who is competent, doesn't need a man to help her do her job, and yet all the normal elements of a romantic Christmas story are still all there!
So that was a big plus for me.
I also enjoyed the story, the people, and the setting. If you want an enjoyable, escapist novel, that will probably cheer you up, then I recommend this book!

Plumber Jessica and Kirsten, her assistant, head for a resort in Scotland as they track her grandfather down after his young wife was murdered. They hire on at the resort to keep an eye on things, meeting James who runs the reindeer sleigh rides and other various jobs. The characters are fun and the situations are very entertaining. The storyline is a mystery, drama, and comedy with surprises and twists you will never see coming. Loved the locale and the ending was terrific.

This is another lovely Christmas read. We read about Jessica's current issues with her family, her lodger Doreen and current job and work trainee and how she ends up at Snowflake Lodge. I loved the description of the antics of her journey there.

Once at Snowflake Lodge, the antics continue with a collection of great characters. We have mystery, romance and humour all packaged together in a wonderful setting and a couple of little twists thrown in.

This is book 5 in the Delightful Christmas series but can easily be read as stand alone.

I've read a lot of books written by Chris Ward; he is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of his books.

This is the fifth book in the Delightful Christmas Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Jessica & James; Jessica & Kristen goes to track down her grandfather when he takes off after his wife dies; they break down and James offers them a place to stay for the night.

Torn between 3-4 on this one, but I gave it a 4 because the setting and side characters were fun. Jessica McJudgerson was kind of annoying as the main character - she mentally criticized everyone and everything. And her lodger Doreen was so awful, it was not enjoyable to even read her parts.

The lodge sounds amazing, all the old folks were hilarious, and the younger folks seemed entertaining! Good enough Christmassy read.

Adorable, cheery ending. I hated the roommate and couldn't understand why the MC just didn't stand up to her. Or why her parents seemingly ignore her. Those parts were frustrating to me. But there were so many laugh out loud moments and the idyllic scenery the author painted in her descriptions of the lodge and mountains, it drew me in! I bought all six books in the collection and I think I've got one left. Looking forward to another cozy winter wonderland!
