I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Energy healing for Empaths is a great, resourceful and informative guide to starting to protect yourself through your life from energy vampires and finding ways to stop this happening, grounding yourself and setting healthy boundaries with these energy vampires. This book guides you to recognising when it is happening, recognise these people and helping you to protect and heal yourself.
There is so much great information in this book with fantastic examples to back them up as well as easy to understand and follow text. This book felt like a friend talking to me as I read it and I connected really well with it as I read it.

Started reading this book today, and I am pumped to say that I finished it today! Was such an insightful and wonderful read… it felt like Campion was reading my mail. There are several meditations and breathing exercises sprinkled through out this book that any soul could benefit from.

“We need to replace our lost energy every day. It’s about replenishing ourselves so we can continue to give to others. By learning to refill out own energy, we can give from a full tank. When we do this giving to others is a pleasurable experience that fulfills our life purpose and brings us a soul-level joy.”

In case this sounds too woo woo for you, just replace “empath” with “traumatized person” and well we all know some energy vampires.

I first borrowed this book from the library rather than buying it, because I tend to be wary of any book overtly self-helpy and/or containing the sort of woo-woo spirituality spouted by a dogmatic “expert” who seems to lack any authentic, insightful wisdom grounded in the real world. In other words, I had pretty low expectations. Another way to put it is that in order to like any book labelled Self-Help or Spirituality, I have extremely high expectations of the background research, life experience, and writerly tone of the author. Several pages in to this book, I purchased it online. I continued reading the library copy, then when my purchased copy arrived, I went through it again with a highlighter and marked the heck out of it, underlining, exclamation-pointing, and adding notes in the margins. In the belief that I tend to find certain books when I need them or are otherwise ready for them—practically, intellectually, spiritually, etc.—I had the sense that every ounce of me devoured this book like food, a particular food I’d been craving for a long time but only now had the proper system to fully taste and properly digest it. I can’t say this book would be for everyone. It wouldn’t have been for me even just a few years ago, when I wasn’t yet open to some of the ideas within. But knowing what I know now, feeling as I feel now, I can say this book is a well-researched, insightful gift from a grounded, compassionate, authentic healer, and I’m so glad I found it.

3/5

There was a lot of really useful information in here, but it did feel a bit like a long brochure and less of a book. I would have loved to go a little more in-depth on certain sections, but I mainly gave the rating I did because of the sheer amount of editing errors- SO many typos and dropped words. It was extremely distracting for me because I would lose the flow of ideas.

But, overall some really helpful information. The beginning chapters were especially enlightening for me. I will definitely be using some of the exercises in this book to help me protect myself and create (much needed) boundaries with others.

Really great book for anyone who is highly sensitive or an empath. And honestly, I feel we all are to some degree. This book has wonderful tips on how to clear and protect your energy and daily maintenance of emotions and energy. Easy to read. Easy to follow. Loved it.

Very useful book overall, with the caveat that she gets a bit "woo woo" at times. I am all for crystal-licking mentality, but even I had to rush through some of these pages. But pretty solid advice overall for those of us in the throes of emotional reactivity.

How frustrating is it to be told by all the different sources the things you must do to be successful in life? This book definitely does NOT do that. It instead takes an empathetic approach and gives bite size approaches and allows you to have kindness and patience with yourself when dealing with life. This is so necessary for everyone to read in life. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I forgot most of that I read in this book. A lot of the information has been written before and almost identical to some great books on energy healing and empaths. This is a good starting point for those interested in what an Empath is, but if you ARE and empath and have lived with it for most your life - this book is better rented from the library.

Perhaps the author likes to make characters and label to make it more interesting. But, I'm not a fan of that. But, I did get some inaughts and technics that I could apply to my life as a hypersensitibe person.

**3.5/5 stars but rounded up to 4 for the rating system**

I was given a complimentary copy of this text by New Harbinger Publishing and Lisa Campion in exchange for an honest review. Though I must admit that there is some bias that is innate prior to reading because I was attuned by Lisa last year, after reading her book The Art of Psychic Reiki. That being said, I will try and be as honest and authentic as possible while also being cautious of the fact that I greatly respect Lisa and don’t want to offend her.

First, I need to preface this review by stating that when I read Art of Psychic Reiki, it was like sitting across a coffee table with a friend and having a fun, easy-going, comfortable dialogue.

Immediately, the energy of the pages of Energy Healing for Empaths are quite heavy. I am not sure of the state Lisa was in when she wrote this book, but it doesn’t feel like a happy-go-lucky friend having an easy-going conversation about her spiritual passion, but rather a person who is going through a lot - something difficult, perhaps - and is using this book as a tool to release that energy.

As such, the book carries this energy with it. It feels like this book was a tool or a way to help her “explain” suffering or pain she might be carrying in the instance of writing it or help her release ties she formed. I do not know what the circumstances were while she was writing this book, I am just reflecting on the energy of it and how it reads. As such, it was not as enjoyable for me, and it was difficult to get through in one sitting.

The rest of my review will be in random notes, as I jot them down as I read.

-Highly Sensitive People are not the same as Empaths. It is said that only 2% of the world are *true* empaths, though with the word thrown around as loosely as the descriptor of “breathing human”, you would assume much more. The descriptors used to define “how you might be an empath” are so broad, I can imagine anyone who feels emotions reading and going, “Oh my god, that’s me!”

-This is a problem I have with many “empath” books and the definition surrounding “empath” in general. I think the clarifier of “psychic” is helpful but should have been stressed even further because I can certainly tell you that 95% of the people who have “empath” in their Instagram bio aren’t psychic.

-I appreciate the emphasis on the physical ailments that plague empaths because I feel that really does stress how different circumstances are for *true empaths*. It’s not just about intuitively guessing what someone beside you is feeling, it’s about soaking in (if you are not trained in protecting yourself) the emotions and having them manifest as physical ailments. It’s *way* more intense than just a hunch.

-Letting go of the “victim identity” was probably my favourite part of the beginning of the book. How about letting go of using “empath” as an identifier *completely*? It’s become a personality trait rather than a term to define your gifts. It’s exhausting.

-Re: Anxiety, Depression, and Addictions - I don’t think it’s fair to say that empaths are more prone to this. I think anyone - especially those with a genetic history - are prone to these things. In fact, I think they’re more a representation of unhealed trauma rather than empathy traits. I think using empathy is victimization tactic and an “excuse” to avoid working on your anxiety, depression, or addictions. I really didn’t like this section, at all. I had anxiety and depression and I am an empath but they are not correlated. I had the former because of trauma I did not work to defeat. To reason away the work that needs to be put in by calling myself “extra sensitive” would be lazy. I think this section could do more damage than good.

-Chapter 3 - the section on Learrning to Protect Our Energy - is probably the most important chapter in the book, because if you’re not putting in the work and constantly victimizing yourself due to being an “empath”, well, then I roll my eyes at you because you exhaust me, and you’re likely just not invested in your own healing and enjoy the comfort of discomfort.

-That being said, I think that Chapter 4 - Our Dances With Energy Vampires - could be one of the most misused chapters in the book (by those who don’t like to put in the work). We cannot blame /every/ depletion on our energy and our emotions on the possibility of a psychic attack. Lisa stresses not playing the victim, but this chapter reads like an entire victimization chapter.

-I think using “energy vampires” can become an excuse to not put in the work to discover what internal or traumatic or memory pieces might actually be causing us to be drained, upset, or “shook up”. I think it gives people an excuse to not dive deep into their healing. As a Reiki Master, a lot of what is spoken about in this chapter Lisa should know could actually be just past life or present trauma reaching the surface.

-And I *HATE* the piece about energy vampires coming at you in your sleep when you’re “most vulnerable” -- do you think your guides are just like, “Alright man, she’s asleep, we are off duty!” You are endlessly protected, even while you sleep. And giving people the idea that they can be attacked in their sleep will lead to a lot of insomniacs, in my opinion. Dangerous.

-Chapter five was another super valuable chapter. I think I take back my comment on number three -- this one was my favourite.

-Chapter 6 was interesting, but I feel like it will inflate the empath ego a little bit: “Oh, we are extra special and we form the most important bonds when we love people.” I think this book has amplified the bad taste that “empath” leaves in my mouth, to be honest haha.

-The part about sex was interesting and I’m glad that she mentions that casual sex is not an empowering choice. Lisa mentions that Mystics say that that sex and death are two initiators into the world of transcendent experiences (did you know that the French call an orgasm “le petit mort” - the little death). I think this information, paired with the addictions section, could lead to a lot of people in unhealthy sexual situations under the guise of “well I’m an empath and I’m transcending” -- glad to see that she followed it up with a warning.

-Loved chapter seven -- continue to play the victim and you become the energy vampire! This will be a hard chapter for many people to digest.

Overall, did I enjoy the book? Yes.
Would I recommend it to others? Yes, those who I feel will truly benefit, not those with “empath” in their IG bio.
Did I like it more than The Art of Psychic Reiki, no.
Would I warn people to be critical when reading and also be aware that there is a heaviness to the text that makes it a slower read? Yes.
Will I continue to support everything Lisa does with curiosity and open arms? Yes, because I can tell she’s just an all-around good person who has the best intentions at the heart of all she does.

3.5 out of 5 stars (keep in mind, I’m a very hard reviewer)

I went into this book thinking maybe it would give me some self-care practices but that I probably wouldn't resonate with any of it considering that I do evidence-based psychotherapy and generally look for a scientific answer for most things (also, the phrase "energy vampire" was in the title, so I was skeptical). But...

I loved this book. I could not have read it at a better time. She did say in the intro that this book found me at the right time and I remember scoffing when I heard that - but it actually did. As a mental health clinician who works in the emergency room, I encounter a lot of intense emotions. And as a pretty sensitive person I sometimes have a hard time finding the line of what is mine and what I'm taking on from others. Hearing that I am not alone in this was so validating, and I really resonated with many of the stories she told throughout the book.

Yes, this book talks about energy, and auras, and psychic powers. But it does so in a very open way, which made me feel invited to notice some of my own unexplained experiences while also recognizing that just because it's unexplained, doesn't mean it's not real. A lot of what she explains through as energy exchanges and auras I know to be true of co-regulation and polyvagal theory - both of which just explain these phenomenon that people have known for years but just weren't accepted in western medicine yet. I really appreciated that this whole book challenged my way of thinking and made me a bit more open minded to the field of energy work.

I also really appreciated the practices she includes in the book (and I love that the audiobook came with a printable pdf of them!). If you are at all interested in energy work or identify as a highly-sensitive individual - and are willing to go in with an open mind - I highly recommend this read.

If you’ve ever felt like a human sponge, soaking up everyone’s emotions while simultaneously dodging narcissists and energy vampires like they’re the latest game in a video arcade, then this book is for you!

Let me tell you, this book was one of the best books I have ever read! Seriously, it’s like Lisa has taken the chaos of empath life and organized it into a neat little package—like a Marie Kondo for feelings.

Lisa has a knack for explaining complex ideas in a way that’s as easy to digest as a slice of pizza (and we all know how comforting pizza is when you’re feeling overwhelmed).

The examples are spot-on. I mean, if you’ve ever found yourself in a room full of people and suddenly felt like you were in an emotional hurricane, you’ll totally relate. Lisa shares stories that make you nod along, thinking, “Yes! That’s exactly how it feels!”

But wait, there’s more! This book doesn’t just leave you hanging after the laughs and relatable anecdotes. It contains action steps that are practical and easy to implement. It’s like a self-help buffet—take what you need and leave the rest!

As an empath, I know how difficult it is to face narcissists and energy vampires. This book is like having a shield and a sword in the battle against emotional drains. So, I have to say thank you, Lisa, for this great book! You’ve turned the often overwhelming world of empaths into something manageable, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

In conclusion, if you’re an empath or just someone who feels a bit too much, grab this book. It’s insightful, funny, and downright empowering. You’ll walk away feeling like you can take on the world—or at least the next energy vampire that crosses your path! 🌟

It is short but took me a long time to get through. Not sure why?
Sometimes it felt more about psychics then highly sensitive people?
Or are they one in the same?
I recently started bawling in the car when I was stopped for a funeral procession. I have nothing sad or stressful in my life, but I felt the sadness. It made me wonder why my feelings are so strong. My sister said I am just empathetic/very sensitive.
My friends would introduce me to their boyfriends so I could tell them my "read". I told my one friend her boyfriend gave off dangerous vibes. He ended up being physically abusive. I can tell when people are pregnant before they show. I hate the feel of certain buildings. I have always wondered why. This book makes me believe I am psychic. But I have never had anything psychic happen, more like feelings or vibes about intentions of people either good or bad.
I did find lots of information in the book helpful, useful, actionable and interesting. I am left not being sure if I am an empath? I don't feel anything when clearing energy, alrhough deep breathing and nature and boundary setting are helpful.
Maybe I am not sensitive enough? Despite this, I feel that many things mentioned are true for me and it can't hurt to try. It is just the truly psychic stuff I can't wrap my head around. It is like the author was writing to a bigger audience then intended. For instance, I am Carholic and I was not offended. I thought it was interesting and could relate. She doesn't write off any spiritual beliefs but instead tries to allow the reader to use her ideas or their own. Because of this, it feltike the author wasn't writing only to fellow psychics. However the strategies were for psychics?

This is a new area for my learning. I have read a great deal of the harmful impact of
narcissistic individuals, but energy healing is a new dimension for me.

I doubt that I understood all the author is teaching, but her message resonated with me in many ways.

I appreciated her advice on how to establish clear boundaries with others, and
how to say no with no explanations or negotations.

I especially learned that feelings of resentment and anger arise when one needs to establish better boundaries.I also learned that anger others have are often projections of their own internal feelings.

I also thought I might try a reiki treatment to clear or unblock the negative energies in
my body.

This is a book I will revisit in the future.

Not a bad book, but a bit wishy-washy throughout. It explains but not enough (most of this stuff can be found in any other energy healing book - if you're familiar with energy healing, there's nothing new here), but what I felt hurt the most was that it didn't explain what's really important. For example, how to actually spot an energy vampire and what to actually do about (aside from grounding your energy and setting boundaries). Or, how to actually set boundaries - knowing about them is all good, but how to actually implement them in your life?
It's getting 3 stars because it can be a good book for someone just getting into energy healing and/or realizes they're an empath.
But it's really a primer, mostly, not much more, sadly

I wasn't expecting to give this book such a high rating. I'm not really into some of the things she talks about as others said yes some of it is a bit "woo woo" and this won't be for everyone!
But... I've never read something that has so astutely explained how I feel around people and how that impacts my life. It made so much sense to me.
Knowing when things are off before others do, picking up on negative emotions in a room full of people, finding it hard to shake that stuff off because you don't just notice it but feel it. Learning how to be there for others and not let their stuff drown you. If you know you are or think you are an Empath, HSP, feel things deeply etc there's lots of helpful info and insight. Overall really validating and helpful.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook currently included with audible I believe otherwise it’s one I’ve had waiting for a long time 🤔 Either way it was really well written in explaining energy fields the impact it can have on us and how to manage situations and more so yourself. Do you find yourself exhausted after pushing too hard? Maybe a little look at your own connections, surroundings and also how much you may pour from an empty cup. There are always various tell tale signs within our body sometimes we may not know what they are or ignore and dismiss them this book explains a lot of the physical aspects of how we can understand ourselves better and therefore improve our way of life! Definitely one for the archive!

I just finished reading this book. I especially enjoyed the suggested techniques and the wisdom shared. The author was unknown to me prior to reading this. She comes across as a genuine, gifted healer who wants to share for the benefit of all. Her writing style is easy to read and flows nicely. I realize the book is energy healing for empaths, but the author shares solid knowledge and practical applications that most any person can find useful in their life. If you can look within yourself with an open heart and an honest desire to build better relationships with both yourself and others.....this book is well worth the read.

This is a must read for any empath! I absolutely loved this book. It is incredibly informative but not boring. And it covers every topic from what an empath is, to how to create and maintain your shield, to identifying both energy vampires and soul mates. There are also several activities that I found extremely helpful such as the Clearing Practices, the Creating a Protective Bubble, and the Seven Day Letter Writing Cure. I haven't highlighted so much in a self help book ever. It's the perfect book for both beginners and experts alike.

At some points, I felt this book reads like a combination of blog posts rather than a formal work of literature. That being said, I think the intention of this book was to provide teaching, clarity, and healing for empaths. And that it does very well - I will definitely be referring to this book for its lessons on managing one's emotions and protecting one's energy. I feel stronger in myself having read this book and for that I am thankful.

It was alright, I’m not mad about anything in it but I do feel it could have been shorter than it was. It felt a bit redundant and I don’t feel I learned as much as I expected to when I picked it up.

However, the writing is lovely and very tender! I’ve got a couple spots in the book that I’ve tabbed and will likely revisit in the future.

I’m not sure I’d recommend the whole book to a friend, but would certainly pull it out to reference little parts to a friend.

Overall this book gave a lot of great insight as to why we are the way we are as empaths. It outlined great tools, practices and exercises to ground oneself and take the heavy weight off that can be carried. My only critique is all the personal client stories, I disconnect from books when they are heavy on sharing personal examples of people they know. I find it more helpful to apply information to my life and have some freedom of interpretation!

A delightful read with great content to understand empaths, & their challenges. Includes exercises to manage, protect and strengthen the energy field, prevent overload and allow you to step into your gifts. So many different helpful ideas to choose from to assist the empath that can be customized depending on your needs. I know this will be one of those books I go back to read again and again.

Many thanks to Lisa for this wonderful book. ❤️

I appreciate this read by Lisa Campion because it addresses many of the upfront issues and problems empaths are struggling with today. Many people are waking up to this ability within themselves and are unsure how to navigate. As a clinician, I find this often shows up at face value in their lives as anxiety and hypersensitivity. Overarchingly, this read provides positive coping skill development for the everyday empath.

This is a really cool book that gives you actual tools/rituals to help you cleanse and protect yourself energetically. She also goes into all the different types of energy vampires and their tactics. She even explains how empaths can become EVs if they don’t take care of themselves and manage their energy properly. I look forward to reading her other books.
