I am always on the outlook for books that feed my spirit. I discovered Eric Butterworth's books during recent classes taught at my church and I have embraced him as one of my latest favorite authors. "Spiritual Economics" has opened new doors for me which are attracting abundance into my life. I trust that will be the case for anyone who reads this book and applies the principles contained within it in their own lives.

In these trying economic times, so many of us are worried about money. Many of us, for whatever reason, don't believe that we deserve to be successful. That is where applying the teachings contained within this book can change your life. Of course, money is a practical means to enjoying one's life, but it is not the most important aspect of prosperity. What good would it be to have all of the money in the world and not to have love? This book will help you come to appreciate all of the forms of prosperity which may already be present in your life or that you may be yearning for.

This book will open doors that will attract God's abundant blessings to you if you apply the principles contained within. I have already seen it working within my life. A recent example of this would be how, suddenly, my self-published book has started to gain some national attention. I credit this occurrence to my own practices of affirmative prayer, visualization, and a heart filled with gratitude for all that is good within my life. These are some of the important practices that are contained within this book.

Eric Butterworth speaks in a language that is easily understood. I have learned to align myself with the Holy Spirit in order to discern what speaks of truth to me. Everything that Reverend Butterworth says in this, and in his other books, speaks to me of truth. I am positive that anyone who reads this book with an open mind will discover that truth within themselves.

Are you committed to discovering who you are and how you can give yourself most fully to the world? AND how you can consciously circulate wealth in the world as you give your gifts, support others, and support yourself? (That, btw, is pretty much a pre-requisite to truly living your hero’s journey.)

If so, this book is pretty much a must read.

Spiritual Economics and The Science of Getting Rich were two of the most influential “wealth/abundance” books I read during a critical phase in my life in which I was really starting to bring my life into integrity around money. If you’re like me, I have zero doubt you’ll also find them transformative.

Since my initial read, I’ve picked this book up at least half a dozen times and have been blown away by the love Butterworth exudes in his words. As a Unity minister, he eloquently, compassionately, brilliantly and forcefully establishes his principles of economics.

Some of my favorite big ideas from this book include:

1. Prosperity - Go forward hopefully!
2. Affluence - Create “abundant flow!”
3. Security - Be “without care.”
4. Why Be Average? - Seriously? Why?
5. Entropy vs. Syntropy - Reach dynamic harmony.

10. How’s Your Faith? - What do you expect?

Eric Butterworth's Spiritual Economics is the perfect book for "new thought" seekers who are ready to heal their belief in lack and limitation. Butterworth presents simple spiritual practices that are accessible and allow you to heal your conciousness. The ideas of incorporating the awareness of God's presence in all places and all things; using visualization regularly; the art of belief or faith; the attitude of gratitude; the understanding of money being Good; tithing as spiritual training wheels which should eventually give way to spontaneous giving from the heart; and giving of your self in your work. There were plenty of affirmations and exercises given throughout the book that will help any person overcome their poverty conciousness. I highly recommend this book to any one wishing to become more prosperous. This is definitely a book that will help you change your thoughts so you can easily change your life.

I listened to this audiobook. I will likely listen to it again, as I feel it always helps to reboot my spiritual perspective. In this book I'm reminded to focus on the abundance that already exists in my life. Focusing on being grateful for what IS will bring more abundance and more happiness. Expect less, appreciate more, be genuine, by yourself, don't worry about others, focus on what you already have, give without expecting anything in return, feel the love of the people around you and the universe as a collective.

The title of this book should have been "Christian Economics" because only Christian thinkers and the bible are quoted. There are many other religious and spiritual viewpoints on money, wealth and economics.

I grant that the book was published in America in 1983 during a tough recession where America was facing rapid de-industrialization. So, the book probably helped many people at the time. However, now it feels quite dated. The word "spirituality" seems to be synonymous with "Christian" for the author which feels completely cringe today.

The book can be summarized as: know the great connection with God within yourself, and you will develop a wealth mindset that naturally leads to material wealth of all kinds. That's all true, but these timeless truths like "give if you want to receive" are covered better in more contemporary books, or much older books of wisdom.

The best chapters to read were:

6 - "Work and the Success Syndrome"
9 - "The Money Enigma"

because they dispel spiritual myths like "money is evil" and "success only comes to those who connive and cheat."

These chapters are good reading for the spiritual seeker of any age, place or time. The rest is pretty "blaw."

All economics is built on perception! When it comes to Spiritual Economics what we're talking about is a rearrangement of our thoughts and feelings toward abundance and wealth. It goes deeper than the level of mindset to looking at life from the standpoint of substance. Because we are responsible for the place we find ourselves in, we have the power to change it if does not suit our desires. Security and well-being are cultivated from within. If you are willing to change your point of views around success, security, money, and sense of self in relation to work, giving, receiving, security, and your relationship to money, this book can supply you with simple techniques to do it. This is not a magic bullet, but you can get results to the degree you're willing to suspend what you think you know and give its suggestions an honest effort.

This is a religious book. It focuses on disproving the notion that to be a good, faithful, spiritual person, you must be poor. Instead, the author advocates for each individual to fulfill his or her destiny, which may include making a lot of money. There’s nothing wrong with that. Why? Because it would be more sinful to waste your potential. Besides imagine what benefit one could make with an abundance of financial resources to help others fulfill their own potential.

I listened to the audiobook.

First thoughts: very American.
Also, the use of the concepts of God and Jesus made this a bit complicated for me, because those are so very connected to a whole variety of associations. Luckily, I’ve done a lot of unpacking of those concepts over time (starting when I read The Artist’s Way - Julia Cameron for the first time), so that helped me keep my focus clear on my own belief system and also helped me to release biases and listen simply to the core concepts of this book.

Creativity and consciousness played a big role in this book and that gave me a lot of joy.
The way those were woven into the concept of prosperity made me very excited and also grateful, because it cleared a lot of blockages I had surrounding money, abundance and wealth.
Truly giving, believing in oneself and going along with the natural flow were the main ideas I’ll take from this.

This book really does shine a light on the main and most important blockages that keep one from experiencing abundance, and it is kept simple enough.

I did not necessarily enjoy this book (and therefore had a hard time finishing it) a lot because it cost me quite a lot of energy to listen to, but I am grateful for the insights.

This is a re-re-re-read. I come back to this every once in a while because reading it first about 25 years ago changed my life. It’s about money. But it’s not a how-to, exactly … or a religious book, exactly (though I could do without some of the holy-moly stuff). It gave me some striking insights on what money actually is, where it comes from, and how to use it without going nuts . . . just when I needed that kind of knowledge. Frankly, this book might not be for everyone but reading it — and re-reading it — has made a measurable difference in my life, and I thought I’d pass it along. It might help you, too. Once again, I must admit that my skepticism met with a pleasant surprise. Rather than a fluffy, New Age, use-God-to-get-rich-quick bunch of nonsense, this Unity pastor brought out points about what true abundance is and challenged readers to approach work from a giving rather than a getting stance. Although I may not agree with all of his interpretations of Biblical words, I found the book to be basically sound.

New age thought is actually old age.

In a very attainable way, Eric Butterworth reminds us again of the lessons that have been taught for years. From the lessons of Jesus to more modern people, we are reminded that, to be prosperous, we need to change how we think and feel about our world. More importantly, I need to change how I think and feel so I can begin to not only alter myself but also those around me.
