Haormangal is a Bengali historical novel written by Debasish Ghosh. It is an epic novel written in prose in the style of medieval period Mangalkavya, where the main consideration is the narrative of history, not the story. The period of the novel Haormangal is from the tenth century to the middle of the eighteenth century AD. It covers the history of "HAOR" (seasonal wetland) geographical area of Bengal. The focus area of the novel is on "Bhuri Shrestha" kingdom or Bhurshut (currently Howrah, Hooghly districts) of Bengal. Bhurshut kingdom grew up in the southern parts of Rarh region. The novel begins with a large part of the Haor belonging to the ancient "Rarh" region. It also covers the Chaitnya era, Mughal rule and British rule in Bengal during the "Bhuri Shrestha" RAJ. In the depth of writing, river-centric lyric poems like Manasamangal, Chandimangal, Basulimangal have gradually come to life. Thoughts cover history, philosophy and mythology.
