Not my favourite in the series, Maggie got on my wick and didn't deserve Morgan. It's not often that this author's characters disappoint, sadly Maggie really let the side down with the way she treated Morgan and I ended up disliking her intensely.

Taking A Second Chance at 💘Love

ADULT Highlander Romance 💕and Adventure with a Second Chance Love💘.
Early 1427.

I really liked this novel until it got to the marriage👰 of widow Maggie Munro and Morgan🐺🍆⛲💪🔪MacKay. Maggie 💃💋💔acts irrationally and illogically after that and it made me lose interest in the book.

The book is filled with angst, clan infighting and distrust. I mostly just kept reading in hopes of finding out what happens to Niel MacKay after the Scottish 👑King sends him to prison for the sins of his father! Too much angst! I didn't like Maggie's character . Because in her misguided foolishness, she was wasting her life away, which was pretty short in those days.

Highlander Entangled: A Medieval Scottish Romance (Stolen Highland Hearts Book 2)
I’ve been anticipating this second story since I read the very last word in Highlander Deceived book 1, which I absolutely loved! In Deceived I found myself wound up on the edge of my seat through most of it’s exciting and very intense dramatic storyline. Maggie and Morgan’s story has plenty of excitement and intensity too but, I liked that the story took on more of their personal lives including tragedies, what they had gone through, and what honor and secrets would dictate and change in their future.
This emotional storyline is beautifully written with great characters embroiled in adventure, drama, angst, tragedy, heartbreak, secrets, and passion, in an in-depth detailed medieval Scotland. This is definitely another great read by this author so I personally recommend it to everyone! Happy Reading ♥️

Content Notes:
Genre: Medieval Historical Romance
Trope: Second Chances
Adult. Some explicit steamy romance descriptions 3-4 out of 5 flames. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I really enjoyed reading this book that made me go back online and check out the other book in this series because, yes, I need to read it!

Maggie and Morgan were a lovely couple with lots of chemistry and some real feelings that made me feel with them and cheer for them - despite certain unfavorable circumstances. I loved to see Maggie bloom and find happiness though I still wish that I could kick her abominable uncle's... behind...
Definitely a book that I'll read again.

There's a lot of highland romances where the MMC is just determined not to fall in love. This take with Maggie the FMC being the one in that position was a nice way to mix it up but also heart breaking. Morgan is great though and I really adore him and he's so patient despite being described as a rogue. He's actually so loyal. Content warning for loss of child, loss of spouse, and infertility.

This is the story of Widow Maggie Munro who not only lost her bairn and her husband but is now left with a barren womb and an uncle who only wants to be rid of her, he cares not to whom, only that it’s soon. Morgan Mackay—the younger brother of a Mackay chieftain—isn’t looking for a wife. He has always been easy going and enjoys loving the various lasses, but he has no desire or need of a wife.

These two meet at a parliamentary gathering in Inverness when certain highland clans were called before King James to answer for their endless feuding, needless strife, and unending hostilities-causing the King more grief than he cares. With tensions high between the Clans Maggie finds herself in the middle of another problem, she finally finds her wayward sister Rihanna Ross who ran away from the Nunnery in Iona instead of honoring a betrothal to Connor MacKay. Maggie is determined to get to the bottom of her sisters actions. Morgan is intrigued by Maggie and demands to accompany her on an outing. While these two traipse across Inverness in search of Rihanna Ross - Morgan starts to see Maggie in a different light.

After Morgan & Maggie return to the King’s castle it’s not long after they are caught in a “delicate situation” which gives Maggie’s uncle all the excuse to demand Morgan wed his niece Maggie. Soon Maggie & Morgan find themselves repeating vows on the chapels steps and not long after leaving Inverness back to MacKay holdings in Northern Scotland. Can a relationship that began in lust ever flourish to love? Will Maggie ever let go of her past and start living in the now or will Morgan always be battling with the ghost of her deceased husband?

“I want ye … as my lover and my life’s companion, mo chridhe,” he said, his gaze spearing hers. “Will ye let the past go and walk into the unknown with me?”

I thoroughly loved this story! These two MCs were perfect together and their sexy times were hot as hell!!

*sigh* I can't say what I expected ahead of reading this one but it wasn't disappointment.

It was an okay read. The plot was decent and flowed well in the first half of the story. I really liked Morgan and I actually did like Maggie in the first half of the story.

Then the second half happened.

Honestly this was more to blame on the author for me. It was a choice to set up the pacing to be so abysmal and ruin any real feeling and relationship between Morgan and Maggie once they married.

Let me be clear: Morgan was lovely and was never an issue. He was the least problematic character.

What ruined the book and the character Maggie for me was the lazy and blatant way the author hid the true motive behind Maggie's campaign to make her own husband dislike her so she wouldn't fall in love with him and be able to keep her promise to her first husband Campbell. Now see, this promise was her never taking another husband. Then she's forced to marry Morgan. So, she decides she won't fall in love with him and continues to curse Morgan for being so kind and likeable and sweet and overall making her promise more difficult for her.

This for me was BORING. It was. Just completely useless and a waste of pages. We got more of Maggie's POV in the second half than Morgan's and it was so exhausting listening to her complain how wonderful he was, and how terrible she felt being so rude to him and even how exhausting it was to constantly play the cold shrew. SPARE ME. She chose to do it and she wasn't even good at it! But no, the author makes us sit around for 40% of the damn book listening to Maggie complain and make up excuses why she can't like her husband and going out of her way to avoid him.

Then, finally...80% ish they finally have a heart to heart and she admits WHY she made the promise to never take another husband. Something she acknowledges she should have told Morgan from the start! Yes, she should have considering she had no issues blurting out that she couldn't have children in their second outing together.

So... anyway. It all came down to her punishing herself. For feeling guilty over how she treated her late husband when he kept pushing her out of her dark moods after losing their child. Apparently she lashed out at him and obviously said things she didn't mean while he attempted to get her out of her dark bedroom and back to living. She was depressed and struggling with losing their child and the news that she was barren now. She was angry and sad and when her kind husband tried to comfort her and drag her out of her darkness she was mean to him. And she never got to apologize because soon after he was killed in a skirmish. So she made her promise to his dead body about never marrying again OUT OF GUILT. To punish herself.

For real??? The author thought it was cute to lead us on and have us believe it was because of how much she had loved Campbell but it was all because of guilt? My god.

This one was pretty damn boring overall. Plot especially never picked up. And all potential Maggie had in the first half of the story was trashed once they were married.

And sorry, no. Ain't no way Morgan fell in love with his rude wife who acted ungrateful and had actively avoided him for a month after arriving home. You can take that love admission from when they finally have sex again and shove it. Bull 💩.

Changeable Heroine... and Not in a Good Way

I have read several series by this author, and with one or two exceptions, I have enjoyed her books. I found the first part of this book intriguing as it is strongly historical, taking place when King James tried to bring Highland clan chiefs to heel both to bring peace to the Highlands and establish his control. Some parts of this beginning were heavy on the history and light on the romance… but still a fascinating read. The hero is utterly swoon-worthy, perhaps not at the beginning (though he is always thoroughly charming and likable); the heroine led him on a sad and painful dance later in the book, but he still treated her with kindness and respect. The heroine started out fine—and even sympathetic as she was living under the “protection” of her awful uncle who only saw her as a burden—but then she changed her stripes in a way that was not foreshadowed—it should have been, given its importance in the second half—and was incredibly hurtful to the hero, as mentioned above. She was cruel without a good reason for a long time until she nearly shattered him and their marriage. Ugh. I hate it when characters change like that with no foreshadowing, and I dislike when either the hero or the heroine treats the other poorly, especially for long periods of time. Because I have often loved this author’s work, I was disappointed in this book all the more.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Highlander Entangled
Stolen Highland Hearts #2
Jayne Castel
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maggie Munro is widowed, barren, and seems to be nothing but a burden to her resentful uncle. She is still grieving the husband she loved and lost. She doesn't want nor ever expects to feel any sort of passion again and would prefer to remain a widow, but then she meets a handsome Warrior at the king's council at Inverness and nothing will ever be the same again.

Morgan Mackay is the younger brother of the Makay chieftain of Farr. He is definitely not looking for a wife and doesn't really intend to marry. The king's council turns out to be a tense gathering to say the least. Unbelievably he finds himself irresistibly drawn to the lovely widow Maggie. They meet up in a bid to find her sister and end up in a tavern having a few too many ales.

As the Scottish King deals out harsh punishment to the warring northern clans, Maggie and Morgan throw caution to wind one night and have a passionate encounter that ends up in something that they both never wanted.

Jayne Castel brings us another fabulous novel that kept me reading long into the night. This novel had it it all, love, deception, and happiness. It was steamy and I was hooked from the get go. It also brought us back to the people we meet in the first novel and to me that made it so much better. Maggie is a sweet soul who is stuck with a terrible Uncle that never wanted her. Morgan is a tough Warrior who has a sweet side that really surprised me. I really like these Mackay boys. Ms. Castel you wrote and incredible novel that was filled with vivid details and I can't wait to read the third book.

Grief, Guilt, Honor and Love – Entangled

Widowed and barren. Maggie Munro has been filled with the emptiness of grief for two years. All while fending off her uncles cruel comments and relentless attempts to marry her off to man who'll have her. All Maggie wants is peace and freedom, but at what price.

As a younger son, Morgan MacKay has enjoyed his life on his terms and the only female he's allowed close is his faithful Wolfhound. Although he doubts he'll ever marry, he still enjoys flirting with a comely lass. It's just such an attitude that may bring him to his knees.

In the beginning Maggie is stubborn with a strong emotional shield. She needs closeness more than she's willing to admit, which is why her excessive burdens make her vulnerable to Morgan's charming personality. What unfolds between her serious demeanor and his winsome personality is the crux of this Highland romance.

The Highlands during the fifteenth century was a turbulent and dangerous place. If clan wasn't fighting clan, then King James was bring misbehaving clans to heel. Such is the backdrop of Highlander Entangled by Jayne Castel.

In this continuation of the Stollen Highland Hearts series, Ms. Castel has meticulously researched the disturbing events of the period and then deftly woven them into a rich tapestry of grief, guilt, honor and love. The result is a forever love story.

Content 411: Although this book contains very little swearing, there are several detailed sexually intimate scenes.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

Maggie is a heartbroken widow, and she never wants to marry again. Her uncle does not care and keeps forcing the issue. He says that Maggie is nothing but trouble for him, and he can't wait to be rid of her. When King James calls a meeting of all the clans in the Highlands, her uncle tows Maggie along because even though this is not the time or place to be thinking about husband hunting, her uncle does anyway.

Morgan Mackay saw Maggie at the bonfire when Keira's ruse was exposed, he wanted to talk to her but Niel was hanging around her so Morgan didn't. When he sees her again, he takes his chance and approaches her while she is walking in the market. He sees that she is distraught and asks her if he could assist.

At first Maggie wants to tell him no, but she needs help. She found her sister Rhianna, but Rhianna disappeared.

As time goes on and they spend more and more together, Maggie is worried about breaking a promise she made to her first husband to never fall in love again.

The story in itself was fascinating. I love the historical bits sprinkled in, and a glimpse of what life was like back then. The romance wasn't so great. Morgan is awesome, I really liked him. I liked Maggie too, I could understand why she was going back and forth but, if she sat down and talked with him as to what was going on in her head, he would have been so understanding. I mean, he didn't even care that her mid-wife told her she could have no more children. She was important to him, and I liked that.

That all said, I am beginning to love this author and her brilliant stories and characters.

Jayne Castel’s “Highlander Entangled” is the second book in the Stolen Highland Hearts series. This is an engaging story sure to please those who love swoon worthy Highland warriors who treat women with respect.

And so begins the tale of Maggie Munro and Morgan MacKay. This is a story about two people who have no desire for marriage, Maggie because she’s still grieving the loss of her baby and her husband and Morgan who had no intention of manage at all. But he couldn’t help being attracted to the beautiful Maggie when they met at the kings council.

Maggie was living with her uncle Grame Ross who took her to the King’s Council hoping to find your husband. He was in at her living with him and just wanted to be rid of her as soon as possible. When Maggie and Morgan are caught in a compromising position, well you’ll just have to read the story.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this series and the Mackay brothers. The author has done a great job with her characters you can’t help but root for. Her imagery is so good and the details provide the vision that heightens the drama. This of course impacts the characters through each step of the story.

I liked Maggie, she had been through so much sorrow and yet remained strong and sweet natured. I liked watching she and Morgan figure out how to navigate their relationship amidst the clan drama and the political intrigue. It was wonderful to see them fall in love. Two people, who needed one another more than they could ever know.

Thank you so much Ms. Castel for this thoroughly captivating love story.

His Words Inflamed Her & Me Too
This fantastic book begins with a short helpful recap of Highlander Deceived which leads
us into this story of Maggie and Morgan.
There is not only romance but a bit of political drama among the clans is also in the plot.
The two meet quite abruptly and from there they take us on a turbulent whirlwind
journey to find their HEA; which they eventually do.
Tring to work together on a secret mission is when the attraction really begins even
though neither one of them wants a future together, but things have a way of changing one's mind.
Heat radiates between the two, there is betrayals, angst family, emotional situations, smoldering kisses,
intimacy, sadness, consequences, and so much more.
This book kept my attention completely with out missing a word.
I loved the heart to heart talks that finally turned this into a 5+ star story.
The epilogue was so heartfelt and happy along with a bit of sadness.
It made the characters seem so real. I chuckled at times and shed a tear or two.
I look forward to reading the next in the series Highlander Forbidden.
This is a stand alone story but it is also best if you read the series on order.

***Kindness, Patience and Love WINS!!!***
A heartbreaking and sweet romance between Maggie and Morgan. Poor Maggie a widow who’s in laws did not want and an uncle that despises her. The uncle takes her to a summit of the clans with the king so he can pawn her off to the first sap who will take her. When Maggie first met Morgan, she was of two minds. First, she thought he was handsome and very attractive. Second, she had to remind herself to spurn any and all advances from men. She did not want to marry. She is decidedly dedicated to her dead husband. Morgan has no plans whatsoever to marry. That does not stop his admiring the attractive Maggie. I felt bad for Maggie. In those days most of the time women were chattel and treated as such. Morgan was not of that mindset. He viewed woman as equals and partners. Due to unforeseen circumstances Maggie and Morgan are forced to marry and yet Morgan takes it more favorably than Maggie. I must confess Maggie was a ʙítčħ to Morgan. Thank goodness Morgan was a kind and patient man. Maggie's defenses were no match to Morgan's loving heart and she broke down, confessed her heart and won the love of a good man. A nice read.

Maggie Ross lost her husband two years ago and swore never to wed again but her uncle has other ideas and takes her to Inverness when the King calls all the Lairds to answer for their crimes. She decides she just has to get through the visit with no offers.
Morgan Mackay is a smooth tongued, handsome highlander. He joins his brother when he goes to see the King and while there, notices Maggie.
* Spoilers *
They are drawn together and when they finally give in to the attraction, they are discovered by her uncle who washes his hands of her. Left with no choice she agrees to marriage.
This was a wonderful story; you get to visit characters from the previous books and read about Maggie and Morgan’s’ marriage. Maggie has a lot going on and needs understanding to help her heal, while Morgan is desperate to help his friend.
A thoroughly enjoyable read, your heart bleeds for Maggie and Morgan is determined to make her happy but has to compete against her husband’s ghost. I am loving this new series and can’t wait for the next book.

Another wonderful and riveting historical romance written by Jayne Castel! This one is full of heart and emotions mixed with guilt and broken promises. Taking place around 1427 during King James 1's rule in Scotland, the author blends true historical facts with her imagination and it makes for an excellent read.

I loved Morgan's character, such an honourable man with a big heart and who hates any kind of injustice. When he meets Maggie and starts having feelings for her, she cuts him to the quick, telling him that she will never give him her heart because she still mourns her dead husband. Having to compete with a ghost is not something Morgan ever expected! Maggie has gone through so much, having lost her husband as well as her baby and hangs on to her own promise of never remarrying or giving her love to another man. My heart ached for the both of them. She feels she is broken and it's up to Morgan to put her back together again!

Beautiful story as only Jayne Castel can write.

Maggie's uncle was desperate to marry her off, her mother-in-law did not want her living with their clan when she was widowed , even her sister wanted nothing to do with Maggie . Morgan should have heeded the warnings and ran in the opposite direction .....not the way the story went.

Morgan was a bit of a carefree flirt when the reader first meets him, but as the troubles in the highlands escalate and the reckoning with King James unfolds Morgan developles a maturity and sense of purpose. His unflaging efforts to free a clansman unjustly imprissioned cement his title as a hero . Maggie in contrast is a self absorbed anxious female who runs hot and cold in her interactions with Morgan to the point of making his attraction to her difficult to believe. As the story continues Maggie becomes increasingly unlikeable as her treatment towards Morgan deteriorates toward cold hostility and indifference. Morgan should have taken Maggie off to the nunnery and found a women he deserves ..... not how the story ends

TITLE: Blends history with believable characters—historical fiction at it’s best!

SETTING: We are take back to 1427 Scotland, with it’s warring clans, and unsettled relations with England to the South.

CRITIQUE:
A wonderful mixing of actual people, places and events, bringing in characters from her earlier story, Ms. Castel has woven a beautiful tapestry of a story. All too human failings in our H & h make them come to life, drawing us into their lives as the story unwinds. The H & h work to overcome the problems in themselves that cause friction in their relationship, allowing their characters to mature. There are some steamy scenes, making this a work appropriate for adults.
Great storyline, well-developed characters, blends history with believable characters, making a wonderful read that one doesn’t want to end.

I really enjoyed the continuation of the series. Maggie had what looked like a really bright future as she was pregnant with her first child and in love with her husband. Then tragedy took them both leaving her barren and after her in laws made her leave she living with an uncle who wants to be rid of her, via a speedy marriage to anyone. Morgan is totally opposite and grew up in a loving and close family with siblings and a very carefree attitude. Caught in a moment of recklessness they find themselves married, a position neither wanted to be in with anyone. It was great to also see what happened to Rhianne (Maggie's sister from book one) and to see the continuation of Keira and Connor's happy marriage. Historically brutal times in Scotland have been brilliantly woven into this excellent story.

This second story in this series did not disappoint! This can be read as a stand alone book, just reading the first gives a more in depth background for some characters.

Maggie Munro is a widow who lives with her uncle who makes her feel like a burden he has to foist off again in marriage When the king commands his northern Highland lairds to come to court, he brings her along to wed her off.

Morgan McKay is the brother of the chieftain who had been fooled by Maggie’s sister into marrying another lady. The scandal is still a sore spot between the families.

A chance meeting at the king’s gathering has the two spending time together and sparks begin to fly.

Will Maggie take her second chance at love? Is Morgan McKay worth taking a chance with her heart?

I enjoyed their journey with its twists and turns as their story unfolded!

Clan clashes and intolerance makes for difficult backgrounds to overcome in the times of this story. The King dealt harshly with clan leaders that he deemed guilty. In that setting we meet an unfortunate widow and a fellow who rarely has challenges with the ladies. As the story unfolds the hero displays tremendous honor, caring and loyalty within an easy-going personality. You can’t help but love home. The h is mourning while dealing with a heartless obnoxious Uncle and other cold family issues, which leads her to close her heart off and creates a prickly exterior. These two travel a difficult road to their HEA, but it was a satisfying journey.

I really appreciate this author following up her story with historical facts that tie in the time and people from that setting.

I am adding the Spoiler tag to cover everything. This is the Jayne Castel that I love, a traditional, just right romance, there is more relationship development with both the Hero (H) Morgan and the heroine (h) Maggie. I was looking for a classic historical romance and Highlander Entangled was "Just Right". Historical detail, historical atmosphere, snappy dialogue between H and h, romantic moments, a little angst; all just the right amount. I was not looking for complex so this novel was a fun light read and was my treat for my stressful week. This is the second book in the series so I am going back to get the first one 'Highlander Deceived", which deals with Morgan's older brother. Get yourself this little treat of a historical romance.

I was hooked from the very start with the story of Morgan and Maggie in Highlander Entangled, Book 2 in the Stolen Highland Hearts series. Morgan, the younger brother of the Clan Mackay Laird is easy-going and fun-loving who has no interest in marrying. Maggie, a widow, still pining for her deceased husband never wished to remarry. Fate and passion draws them together in an unlikely, unwanted marriage. Maggie swore to never love again but she finds she can't resist kind, loving Morgan. I loved their story. It is emotional, passionate, with hurt feelings and misunderstandings but love can't be denied. Highly recommended!

This book is really well done....heartbreaking, but well done. Maggie is a widow who does not want to remarry, even though her uncle is determined that she will. Morgan claims he’s not the marrying kind. As you can imagine a relationship between them would be fraught with conflict and emotional distress. The really gut wrenching part of this book revolves around King James and his form of justice. There are moments of teasing and moments of joy....but the lesson in this story is to let go of what can’t be changed and make the best of and enjoy what you have. This is a wonderful series that has substance and depth, for as we all know, life in the Highlands was a challenge.

An Epic Story

Jayne Castel has done it again! Highlander Entangled is epic. She has taken actual historical facts and woven them into a story of family loyalty, clan wars, betrayals, twists and turns, adventure, sadness and true love. Morgan Mackay and Maggie Munro the main characters take you into a world that will keep you up all night reading. Theirs is a story that you will find hard to forget after you close the book. Such a wonderful tale set in troubled times. It will bring tears of sadness and heart warming feelings of happiness. Steam level is not high which was not needed. You will not want to miss this book!

This very well-written book 2 in The Stolen Highland Hearts Book Series is very interesting and intriguing story with strong characters. These amazing characters are believably well-crafted with good personal histories. I was caught up in this story from the very first page and held on until the end. There was action, adventure, love, suspense twists, and turns. This interesting Medieval romance is a tale of friendship, loyalty, and the courage to love. This story is a steamy, emotional, and steeped in Scottish history. It is set around the lives and loves of one of the three Mackay siblings, will steal your heart.

I greatly enjoyed this book. I had read some reviews that were not kind to Maggie, but I could see why she felt the way she did. I loved how Morgan fell first and hard. It took Maggie longer to work through her guilt, but Morgan never gave up on her. It was nice to see the progression of characters from the first book.

The time they spent in King James Court was hard to read, but was a nice historical touch to the story. Maggie's uncle was a nasty piece of work and I hope he will not show up in the next two books, except to inform us of his demise. I wonder what will happen to Maggie's sister and look forward to seeing her in a forth coming book.

I have enjoyed the first two books and can't wait to start on the third book!

Maggie Munroe and Morgan Mack

Maggie was a young widowed lady still in mourning after losing her baby and husband. Maggie's uncle, Grame Ross was determined to marry her off as soon as possible. Morgan had not planned on marrying but he and Maggie were caught in a very comprising position. Attraction and lust are a difficult way to start a marriage. Steamy romance during a time of political upheaval. Well written story with a fast moving storyline, great characters, angst on both their parts for different reasons. Exciting addition to the Stolen Highland Hearts collection .

I really loved Highlander Entangled: A Medieval Scottish Romance by Jayne Castel. It is the second book in the Stolen Highland Hearts series. This author has a way of writing and developing characters that allow the reader to become engaged with the story. I enjoyed the reading the story of Maggie and Morgan. There was a little of everything history, intrigue and romance.

There is always a scene in this author's books I remember long after I have finished reading. This time it is the scene involving Niel. I really hope the next book focuses on him.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Maggie has lost her husband whom she loved and now has her uncle riding her to remarry and be out of his house, so he takes her to a court gathering to hopefully find her a new husband. But Maggie does not want to be wed again, she just wants to live out her life single, continuing her remember love for her husband. She has her ups and downs over the course of the story, her character growing and fading, ultimately expanding to find her place in the world. I enjoyed this love story, it was easy to integrate into the plot and become one with the story. Thanks for a good read and keep them coming...
