Rico’s journey to San Diego takes a dangerous turn as the nearby nuclear power plant edges closer to meltdown. Meanwhile, Mia’s snap decision may end up costing her and her son more than she bargained for in Aftershocks Book 3.
A desperate deal. A catastrophic disaster. A father who will stop at nothing to return home.
Far from home, a father makes a secret deal with the devil to secure his family’s future.
Alone on their rural homestead, his wife and child continue to eke out a quiet living, quietly counting the days until he returns.
When the mother of all earthquakes rips North and South America apart, the family’s survival skills will be tested more than they ever realize as they fight to survive - and reunite - in the face of overwhelming odds.
It’s been a hard ride for the characters in this book. I almost feel as if it’s real, like it could happen. Would make a great tv series. I can’t wait to read the next one.
An absolutely gripping book that had me hooked from the beginning. Rico tries to get to San Diego, not realizing how dangerous it could turn out to be. Keeps you holding your breath, hoping they’ll be alright. I can’t wait for the next one.
Book 3 of the iconic Aftershocks series, by Justin Bell and Mike Kraus, is BROKEN, which tells a searing, riveting tale of the Aftershocks caused by a mega-earthquake. Themes include family members, such as Rico Tavera, (helping the DEA to bring down his former Mexican drugs cartel leader), bravely determined to get back to loved ones, like so many other survivors and survivalists, separated unwillingly by mischance, separate, diverse locations and malign characters, from their families and loved ones, by those only concentrated on furthering their own agendas. Can the latter be overcome?
Serious and often life-threatening circumstances arise from changing weather conditions, caused by a combination of Nature's great powers - and man-made perils, including a dangerously unstable nuclear power plant.
Who's responsible for the millions of deaths and the breakdown of law and order, as a shooting war between the US and Mexico intensifies? Why has the National Guard been ordered to institute Martial Law and FEMA camps to contain malcontents and help refugees who have lost all? Why are Rico's family afraid of the corrupt sheriff? Who's Gillian - is she genuinely on their side? Where are Rico and Tara heading when she's shot?
A dramatic and riveting post-Apocalyptic survival thriller that grips you firmly by the imagination and doesn't let go, don't miss BROKEN, Mike Kraus and Justin Bell's outstanding third chapter in the Aftershocks series, at any cost!
First, thanks for the Prologue...very helpful to get back up to speed on what has happened in the prior books. There is a lot of action on all three major fronts. It is also very refreshing that there were a lot of good guys in both the military and FEMA and that the main characters appreciated what they were doing. Usually in this genre, the military and FEMA are portrayed as bad, scheming and soulless creatures. I also appreciated this from the author "By the time you read these words, my hope is that things are looking better across the world and that the sun is starting to shine just a little bit brighter. I think we all need it." I look forward to book 4!
I loved the characters, theme was plausible, but too much repetition in chapters. Each time characters are highlighted in the chapter by the time another chapter comes that has same characters the previous chapter for the characters seem to be referenced. I would rather the author assume that by the second or third book that the reader is savvy enough to remember what previous chapters were about. Overall an easy read.
Devastating earthquake hits the west coast of North America and the Gulf of Mexico. Tsunamis hits both coast causing double wammy. A DEA agent who is a total nutjob hunting down Rico Tavera, a previous employee of the cartel. Let us not forget the greedy corrupt sheriff neat Tavera’s home.
Rodrigo trying to get to Mexico from the west. Rico and Tara heading for San Diego to the East. With the DEA agent on his tale. In between on the borders of Mexico and United States. It was war. Will the two separate Parties get to where they want. This series is outstanding and I want more
This series is really great! I definitely recommend it. The characters are fantastic and the action is spot on. The backstory of Rico and Mia is really interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out with the after effects of the earthquakes.
I'm not sure which story is more compelling. Rico and Tara have faced more danger than I can imagine. Mia and Max are trying to survive with a huge threat on the horizon. Rodrigo is fighting to get home but is there anyone still alive? What would you do and how would you survive? I can't wait to see how these stories come together.
I love reading books with multiple series so these are just right for me, the only draw back for me is I read quite fast so i get through them to quickly and finish them then have to find another series of books these i have enjoyed a lot. Cant wait to find out what happens to Agent Barnett hope its spectacular. Really good books.
Rico and Tara continue their difficult trip out of LA headed for San Diego. Mia and Max with Candy and the secretive Gillian do what they can to improve and maintain their rural homestead. Rodrigo is involved in a daring escape from the Laredo refugee camp while the ground battles between Mexico and the US intensify at the border. Never a dull moment.
Really like the plot of this series but it needs more editing. There is too much rehashing of the previous books. Without that, this could be a four book series. Also, there are lots of mistakes…a thirty lb pack becomes a fifty lb pack, a shaved head becomes hair being ruffled by the next day plus other stuff like that. Great story, just needs to be cleaned up.
Fantastic read! Emotionally gripping from beginning to end. Fantastic character development and plot line. Showing both sides of a disaster and the struggle to do what's right on all sides.
The third in the Aftershock series did not disappoint. High tension as people run from a large earthquake that hits downtown LA, Mexico City and the Gulf. Lives torn apart and people trying to get into Mexico to check on family. Edge of your seat reading.
The story is solid. I gave this three stars because I don't like hopping all around every other chapter to various characters and storylines. I skip chapters to stay with the ones I initially bonded with. In this case Rico, Mia and family. Other than that. I like this
Rico, Mia and Max have a long way before their family has made its way back to each other. with the constant danger each one has to survive through do not seem to get any easier.
I love your books. This storyline is one that could very well be our tomorrow. It took me on the journey and made me feel the uncertainty and the pain each character was going through. I can't wait to see where you take me next.
It's a good series, I'm not crazy about Barnett, too lunatic, too similar to other crazy bad cop story... Still a fan of Justin's talents in writing!! Beginning Book 4... Here I go
Being prepared makes you a target. Not being prepared makes you a target. Military, Guard, Police, FEMA , not coordinated. What is one supposed to do??
