USA Today bestselling author Livia Grant lives in Chicago with her husband and furry rescue dog named Max. She is fortunate to have been able to travel extensively and as much as she loves to visit places around the globe, the Midwest and its changing seasons will always be home. Livia's readers appreciate her riveting stories filled with deep, character driven plots, often spiced with elements of BDSM.
I enjoyed this book, it had a solid premise. The heroine, Emma Fischer, is stranded in France by her traveling companion and has to make her way back to Paris without knowing how to speak the language. She gets attacked at the train station and is helped out by two male models, Jaxson and Chase, who had seen her telling of her friend at the hotel the previous day and were impressed by her. They have a hot vacation menage fling with some D/s thrown into the mix.
After returning to Madison Wisconsin to college for her masters degree, she misses them and they apparently miss her so they take a vacation from modeling jobs and stay with her for a while. The BDSM is sizzling and romance is nice, not insta-Love. The odd and somewhat schizophrenic part is the sub-plots about Emma’s parents and Jaxson’s parents, they both seem sort of rushed and under developed. Also it is odd that there is little to no mention about Chase’s family when there are separate plots involving the other two.
I won’t give away any spoilers, but the book seems to end at an odd point to me. It isn’t a cliffhanger. It is actually an ending, but it just seems a bit unfinished to me. Almost like in Sleepless in Seattle where the movie is leading up to the point where they meet and then they just barely meet and it is over. You don’t eve get to see what happens or if they like each other or live happily ever after. (I’m still talking about Sleepless in Seattle) cuz that ending bothers me. 😝.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
Except for the graphic sex, this seemed like a Young Adult version of a menage. The heroine is a curvy girl, who gets continually fat shamed, even by her so-called friends. Her own roommates don't believe at first that she's really friends with the two good looking heroes. The "bad people" are one dimensionally bad with no redeeming qualities. I think maybe I'm just over the young heroine thing because I find a lot of them not just innocent, but immature.
Getting a glimpse into the lives of Emma,Jaxson and Chase before Black Light, this was a very entertaining story. Seeing how both men gave Emma’s view of herself a healthy boost, was heartwarming. (ánd butt warming, lol)
Being a co-ed on a holiday in France without knowing the language was fun,as long as she had her “friend” with her. But said “friend” was a selfish cow that left her without a second thought. Maybe that was a lucky thing, because it led to meeting the men that would turn her life around, forever. Jaxson and Chase were world famous male models, growing tired of the lifestyle. Finding a girl like Emma was like finding water in the desert. She was as real as they could hope for,and they hit it off immediately, kink included. Once they reached Paris, they managed to keep her with them for one more day before she had to return home. But once parted, they all missed being together, having that magical connection....
Emma never expected to see them again, but was ecstatic when they turned up at her dorm house. Having taken a month off work, the men do their best to convince her they were meant to be together. Her objections of not wanting to drop her education are overruled by stating she could continue online. Meeting her parents, showing them their daughter means the world to them, was the next hurdle they take with flying colors. Jaxson’s father, now he’s a véry different story.....
Overall,i enjoyed their story. It was hot,it was sweet,it broke through the barriers of a judgmental society.
(My only problem could be,that not all skinny girls are that bitchy towards the curvy ones.... But that could be because, while i don’t have said curves,i generally don’t judge people for their appearances, but for who they are.....)
I didn't like this one. There were just so many things that didn't work. Insta-love is a hard sell for me and this one failed. I did not buy into this relationship at all. Insta-lust maybe, but even that didn't work. I mean, within minutes of being with these guys, they are having sex and not even using protection. Which is yucky because she just watched them break up with two horrible women the night before.
Then these guys were models. I didn't buy into every place they went, they were immediately recognized. Way too over the top for me.
But the worse thing was this whole curvy crap. I mean come on, every person she was "friends" with said, wait you're with her? You could do so much better than her. HER FRIENDS were saying this!!!! What in the ever-loving hell?? I can't stand women MC's that are so freaking insecure. No wonder this girl is. Everyone in her life thinks she's this horribly ugly, CURVY, woman. I mean what's curvy you ask? She has big boobs and her stomach is "soft"...lol whatever.
I'm going to continue reading the next books in hopes that the next ones get better. But this one was rough.
The beginning is basically a one night stand in which Emma meets and goes off with two guys who rescue her in a train station in a foreign country where she can barely speak the language. It was very typical, damsel in distress, hot guy(s) comes to the rescue.
I almost stopped reading there because I didn't feel much of a connection to the characters. But I pushed through.
We fast forward to the guys finding Emma just as she's about to begin teaching a college class (she's a TA). They BOTH kiss her in front of the entire damn class without a second thought to the fact that this is her job or how it would impact her reputation.
A HUGE issue I had with the book is that everyone recognized Jaxson and Chase. They're models, not actors or sport stars! I just find it hard to believe that college kids know who they are or that they're constantly bothered in public for autographs and pics. It didn't fit.
I hated that Emma basically gives up everything for them with little plan for the future. She's not confident enough in herself to speak up for her needs or wants. And the one time she tries to voice her concerns she's punished for it rather than listened to.
I definitely felt the connection between Jaxson and Chase but I struggled feeling where Emma fit in besides for their sexual needs. It seemed that she fit great in the bedroom but beyond that it seemed that's all she was good for.
Parts of the story seemed to be missing. They would be talking about one thing (for example lunch with Emma's parents and grandmother) but then it's never mentioned again. I think if there was more focus on the development of the actual relationship as opposed to just what's going on in the bedroom, I might feel more of a connection with Emma in the trio.
Also the ending lacked. There was no real closure to any of the issues identified throughout the book.
Grad student Emma Fischer is stranded in a country where she doesn't speak the language when her friend and traveling companion decides to run off with a hot guy on a motorcycle. Thankfully, Emma finds two hot guys of her own. Models Jaxson Davidson and Chase Cartwright are secure in their relationship with each other but prefer sharing a woman too, and naturally submissive Emma is right up their D/s alley. But how can they have a relationship when she's in one place for grad school and they're working all over the globe?
This book had a lot of potential. I like the plus size Emma with not one, but two super-hot male models. It's a total fantasy, but a good one (though the model on the cover doesn't look like she's the same size as Emma, as publishers once again use a normal-size model to represent a plus size character). While the main characters (and Emma's parents) are very well developed, the secondary characters are all one-dimensional caricatures of real characters. I'm surprised the senator dad didn't kick a puppy while he was at it. I like the motto of self-acceptance, but the book is not just where it should be to live up to that idea.
This was a great premise. I’m into the insta-love and ménage, the damsel in distress, the insecure woman who needs reassurance. Yeah, all of that. What I did not enjoy were the derogatory ways that women were referenced and it was HARD for me to keep reading when we’re hit with that straight away. Calling women sluts, bitches, body shaming girls for being skinny. This was coming from all involved (that pun was totally intended!) when even the H’s were calling other models “skinny bitches”. Emma has body issues herself and is insulted so many times for being overweight but thinks it ok to body shame others. Some of the people in this book were horrors and deserved the vitriol but that could have been accomplished in other ways. All of this was just really distracting from the hat MMF hotness.
Boring and utterly phony. Even the cover is phony.
I tried, I really tried to finish it, but I just couldn’t. Technically I started reading this in November or early December. I started and stopped this whole time and I just decided to give it up and face the facts.
This wasn’t good. Characters are bogus. Plot is bogus. And it was fake as hell. The writing style was basic and not that creative.
I will admit when I started reading this story I almost stopped at the first page, I was immediately transported to one of those reality shows where people are always putting each other down. The immaturity level was just off the charts, plus trying to figure out how Emma could ever depend on that other person for anything was beyond me.
Emma only felt validated once Jaxson and Chase told her she was beautiful. There was so much fat shaming in this story it was incredible. Plus did we need to be told over and over that Jaxson and Chase were major models? The point was driven home time and time again when everyone in Emma’s life had something to say about her weight. Never met so many one-dimensional people in a story. The men are gods and she’s just a regular mortal that has been raised to their level since they desire her.
Three quarters of the book was their bedroom antics. There wasn’t anytime in between all of the orgasms to really get to know each other or at least that’s what mortal me thought. Once we finally got past all of the bedroom antics we got some more info on the guys and on Emma’s family, which was a nice break from the Dom situation. For me the last quarter of the book is where the story was. We got to learn about the guys insecurities, we already knew about Emma’s ad nauseam. It was nice that they became the three musketeers and where one goes the others follow. For me the characters were a three the story with all of it’s meanness was a one so unfortunately while I liked Emma, Jaxson and Chase I just felt that the story was to one dimensional to rate it higher than 2 stars.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
The premise sounded very interesting, however, the book failed to deliver. There are quite a few issues I had problems with: 1. Emma is freaking out because she has to take a train all by herself in France. Why the freak out? Oh, that's because she doesn't speak a lick of French....and that's after she's been in France for a while, studying abroad...Hm....I guess she isn't as bright as she was being portrayed if she didn't pick up a handful of words while she was there...Also, why did she go to France to study in the first place? 2. Emma has wild unprotected sex with Jax and Chase literally minutes after she met them. And that's after she makes a scene in the lobby of the hotel screaming at her friend because she is sleeping with men she barely knows, warning her that she will end up with multiple STDs. However, when Emma gets in bed with two strangers it's all right. Not once did she even self-reflect to say, oh wait...I am a hypocrite and maybe we should get some condoms first. 3. In the beginning Emma is all set to get her Master's degree. But, the moment two cute men show up, she is ready to leave all that behind and "hit the road" with them. 4. Speaking of "hitting the road"...Since when do models go on tour??!?!?! Were Jax and Chase originally written as musicians?? As far as I know, models do not go on tours... 5. Oh, and speaking of Chase...Half of the time I was forgetting that he was even in the picture. He was like a picture on a wall - beautiful to look at, but easily forgettable.
While reading this book, I had to keep reminding myself it was fiction because not a lot of it was believable. For the most part, it read like a fat girl's fantasy of having two hunky men sweep her off her feet...and whisk her away, leaving all skinny women consumed by jealousy.
From the get-go, the heroine, who herself is self-conscious, judges every other woman based on their size. I detest thin-shaming as much as I hate fat-shaming, so those parts were hard to read. And, largely (no pun intended) unnecessary.
I did not care one bit for Jaxson or what's his name? You know, the two dudes who were f*%king but weren't gay...because, you know, it's complicated.
Rather than rip this book a new a$$hole, I'm going to leave off by saying, if you're looking for a book heavy on sex and not much else, have at it.
Oh, one other thing, if an author's going to bring up safe sex, please don't stop at 'are you on the pill?" These guy have been banging anything with a pulse, yet not once was the issue of contracting an STD raised. Don't get my wrong, I'm not the condom police, but either don't mention safe sex or address the issue properly.
Oh, and I get mixing up terminology, but come on, none of these terms are erotic - His protrusion, adjusting his insertion, fornicating, her bottom, her globes, keeping her snatch shaved
Okay, I need to stop. It's clear this book didn't work for me.
Um....I'm trying to figure out all the five star ratings on this one? I know we all have different tastes, and I do enjoy mmf stories, but this one didn't do it for me. Emma Fischer is a big, fun gal (well, not actually fun) - the one who gets taken advantage of by her so-called friends. She's travelling in Europe and gets dumped by one of those so-called friends to find her own way back to the states. Jaxson Davidson and Chase Cartwright are male models who witness Emma's dilemna and help her out by taking her to Paris in their private rail car. Where they promptly seduce her! They trio spends a wild night in Paris and then Emma goes back to her master's program and TA job in Wisconsin. The guys find they can't live without her, so they track her down and show up in her class, both of them kissing her in front of everyone. What???? I didn't connect with any of the characters - insecure Emma, goofball Chase and dominant Jaxson. There were too many eye-roll moments for me in this book to enjoy it.
When her friend leaves her stranded alone in Europe Emma finds herself in trouble at the train station only to be rescued by two extraordinarily handsome men who insist on taking care of her in their private train car. When they convince Emma to give herself over to them for the six hour trip this usually insecure woman gets an incredible taste of a life she could only dream of. But she knows her size sixteen body can't hold a candle to the twig like models the men are constantly surrounded by so going home to finish her business degree is the sensible thing to do.
After being beseiged by fake, money-hungry women for years Jaxson and Chase can't believe their luck when the beautiful and very 'real' Emma comes into their lives. They also can't believe the sense of loss when she's gone. But tracking her down is only the beginning. How will their families handle there trio relationship with Jaxson's father furthering his political career and when Emma's very conservative parents find out?
I enjoyed most of this book. There is one scene where a back story of MM rape is told that was uncomfortable and didn't go at all the way I expected. Another scene where Emma finally stands up to Jaxson about how she feels, and although he (barely) admits he may not have fully considered her feelings, the severe BDSM 'punishment' she got did not feel justified.
Free copy provided by Net Galley in exchange for honest review
The first half of this book is kind of a dumpster fire. If you can stick with it until the characters return to America it is a pretty standard romance novel.
Cons: Entire first chapter is slut shaming and girl-hate by the main character
Second chapter features some light misogyny from our male leads
So much body shaming from every direction
There is attempted rape, which of course the men save Emma (our female MC from)
Early on the main male characters justify their predatory and domineering behavior as 'protecting her' because she has a concussion .... then they tell her to go to sleep, drink alcohol and have rough sex with her (including hair pulling)
Every single time someone refers to butt cheeks it is called a globe. Every. Single. Time.
Main male character disregards the privacy/autonomy of the female character multiple times and when she gets upset about it he punishes her
Pros: Polyamory representation
Bisexual representation
The sex is pretty good
Use of safewords
Use of warm up spankings
They don't immediately dive into anal ( but there still should have been waaaay more prep)
I loved this book just as much the second time I read it just as much as I loved it the first time. Some books are worth reading over and over and this is one of them. The h has been stranded in France and she ends up meeting the two Hs who are celebrity models and even though she is not model material her self being rather ordinary and a bit plump even, the three of them get involved. If you like MMF stories with a little spanking you are sure to love this one, I highly recommend it. I loved the ending and think you will too.
I have read BDSM stories and ménage stories, (generally I have liked them), and this is both. The problem is that it crosses the line of taboo and sexy, strait into “OMG, that poor girl she needs to get away from that guy”. One of the male leads is just a complete A$$, and the other is so submissive, that it’s a turnoff. Then they throw “love” in the mix, without actually doing anything to show love. Just not a fan.
First, I want to thank Netgalley for the free copy of this book. REVIEW: DNF @ 30%. This book had no plot that I could see. It was just sexy scene, which were quite well written, a paragraph to a page about the aftercare and whatever the characters did after sexy time, then another detailed sexy scene. It felt more like I was reading a porno than an erotic novel.
Childish, misogynous and flat. Except for the “heroine”, all the other women are jealous and manipulative “bitches”. The author seems to believe that the way to respect yourself is by insulting the others.
I was grateful to receive a free copy of Infamous Love in exchange for an honest review. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. I was quickly engrossed in Emma's story of being stranded in France after her "friend" abandoned her for a boy toy. Emma was struggling to cope with returning home when she met two internationally known models, Jaxson and Chase. They quickly saved the day, and wasted no time assuming their roles in a menage relationship.
Overall, I enjoy this genre. However, what I always struggle with as a reader is the main characters coming from an affluent background. I'd prefer reading about more down to earth characters with realistic plots. I'm not sure some small town overweight Wisconsin girl "hooking up" with two rich and famous men and traveling the world after knowing each other for a month is very realistic. The ending was way over the top with Chase's dad hosting a fundraiser to run for President of the United States. Chase, who didn't get along with his father arranged to sabotage his father's fundraiser, and made a menage spectacle on stage with Emma and Chase.
Overall, this was a well written novel, and the scenes were tastefully done. That would make it worth the read.
I'm a bit disappointed in that story, as characters were too childish/too immature, but I wanted to love it so much. Emma is a grad student and she met two moels while in France they had crazy sex, and after a day... those guys still crave girl that they had met by accident! Sounds crazy? It was and it made me feel like the story was spinning out of control.
dnf 29% I can`t do it anymore. The smut was not even good. The insta-love was boring and awkward. None of the characters were interesting, so i just gave up.
One of the best things about this book is knowing that it will continue with more stories. I loved the characters and their interaction. The shy, unassuming, grad student, Emma Fischer, and then two sexy A-list models, Jaxson Davidson and Chase Cartwright. You could even call Jax and Chase as knights in shining armor to Emma. They rescue her in Nice at the train when she is attacked, they take her on an incredible journey of self-discovery and instill a confidence she has never had before.
Emma is conservative, sensible, hardworking, and curvy. The girl that sits at the table and watches her friend’s purses while they are on the dance floor. She is shocked when Chase and Jaxson insist she joins them in their private train car and then the offer they make her, has her at war with herself, but she decides to be adventurous. From Nice to Paris on the train and one night in their hotel suite has three bodies linked together in a triangle of sex.
The hardest thing Emma will do is leave France and return to Wisconsin to her TA job at the University. She knows their last name but never gave them hers. When her guys show up and spend time with her, they rekindle what they started in France. But how far will this go before they get tired of her? When will the stroke of midnight turn this Cinderella back into a girl in rags and the two handsome Prince move on?
The story has the Dominant Jaxson, the switch Chase, and their submissive girl, Emma. The three learn that it takes all three to complete each other and Emma states, “I’m not a distraction. I’m the glue that holds us all together.” The relationship is an m/m/f ménage that includes punishments and explicit sex scenes. When three people love each other, no one else matters.
I look forward to the next book in this series. I was provided with an e-copy of this book for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.
Having read several of the Black Light books I felt it was high time I found out more about Jaxon, Chase and Emma. I've had the book sitting on my kindle for a little while and eventually found the time to discover where it all started.
This was a gentler read than I had expected and felt fairly low on the angst and heartache scale. I did feel an emotional connection to the characters, Emma's fears and insecurities were very real and understandable. Having read the Black Light books first I'd expected that this might have a heavier BDSM feel to it. However, in reflection, since Emma was totally new to the scene it made much more sense for that side of things to develop at a slower pace.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, it is really well written with a very easy to read and follow style. The pace was good, easily holding my attention, and the plot was quite surprising in how it didn't follow predictable and cliched norms. The love between the characters was very easy to believe in and the way they faced the hurdles life put in their way felt very natural and real.
If you haven't read any or much of the Black Light series I do recommend reading this book first, or as soon as you can. It's also an excellent book to introduce you to BDSM or menage stories.
I am swooning! I absolutely loved this book! Livia Grant does an amazing job of telling us the story of how the infamous triad of the Clubs Black Light and Runway; Jaxson, Chase, and Emma; end up together!
This story is told mostly from Emma's point of view but we do hear a bit of Jaxson's as well. Emma is left stranded and is attacked while studying abroad in France. She is rescued by two models Jaxson and Chase. They invite her to join them and have some new experiences. Being with two men who are in the spotlight all the time fires up Emma's insecurities.
Jaxson and Chase must figure out if what they have with Emma is just another fling or if there is a deeper connection with their curvy grad student. The trio will have to figure out what it means if they find that this is more than just a summer fling.
I loved the care and love that both Jaxson and Chase bestow upon Emma and her insecurities. Livia does a awesome job with educating us on the BDSM lifestyle throughout the book without making it feel forced or out of place! My favorite part is at the end of the book when both Chase and Emma repeat their motto to Jaxson (you'll have to read the book to find out what it is)!
My first exposure to this author was in The Black Light Series, which in my opinion is one of the best collection of true authentic BDSM collections out today. I loved it so much that I had to come back to where the characters that started it all were from. This book gave me the background into their relationships and I appreciated that because as I progressed into the story I became invested in their stories.
This prequel was not of the same quality of writing as the one later in the series. I think that comes with time because let me tell you this author can write as the series as continued. Regardless, that the story was more sexually oriented it still offered insight into the characters and their characteristics which GREATLY helps later on down. While this book was not my favorite because the characters seemed immature, it gives great leeway for them to mature, much like the series matures.
I really enjoyed the Black Light series as it introduced me to some new authors. I gave this book only 3 stars because I felt the author dumbed down this book. I mean how many times do you need to describe Jaxon and Chase as “two famous models” and Emma having body image problems constantly. There was always some reference to her weight. There were so many redundancies in this book, I became more annoyed reading it than enjoying it.
