Thank you to NetGalley and Llewellyn Publications for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
I have always been drawn to crystals and the magic of nature, having accumulated a mass of knowledge about rocks & minerals throughout the years, as well as a physical quantity of them. When the opportunity to read an advanced copy of a book about crystal magic I definitely jumped at the opportunity. This book is broken down into lovely sections about different types of magic that can be done with different crystals, as well as information about crystal grids and how to make crystal potions. There are also warnings about which crystals are toxic to be ingested, or harmful if they are close to the skin for too long, as well as information about the fragility of different stones. I also appreciated the information on identifying the difference between natural and man-made stones, but not promoting one as better than the other.
The one thing that gave me a bit of a hard time was it felt a little religious at times/leaned a little far into the self-help/motivational speech realm. I understand where it is coming from, and it is not a negative necessarily, but it is personally not an aspect I enjoy with my crystal knowledge spell books.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I think this is a book I will keep going back to as a reference for some of my crystal knowledge & spells. I think it is a great starter book for those who don't know anything about crystals or crystal magic, and I would definitely recommend it even to seasoned crystal users as a reference book. 4.5/5
This review originally appeared on The Magical Buffet website on 01/03/2022.
Anyone who has read The Magical Buffet for a while knows a few things about me: I love eating and drinking, I love pretty much anything written by Claude Lecouteux and Deborah Blake, and lastly, that I LOVE anything crystals. Thusly, I had to check out “Enchanted Crystal Magic: Spells, Grids & Potions to Manifest Your Desires” by Pamela Chen.
Before we dive into the book, I must address the obvious, which is Pamela Chen’s hair is magical af. Words cannot express the level of hair envy I have, and I may never recover. Send help.
Okay, with that out of the way, let’s discuss “Enchanted Crystal Magic”. Chen has a boundless enthusiasm for the topic, and it comes through in her writing. The book is upbeat and conversational. Books about crystals can approach the subject from different angles. Chen offers plenty on the fundamentals of crystals and from there expands into her style of crystal magic, which leans into new thought traditions.
If you’re looking for a fun book about crystals and all the versatile ways they can be used with a new age flavor, “Enchanted Crystal Magic” is the book for you!
I have worked with crystals for decades and found this a useful interesting guide to crystals. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own,
I appreciated the wealth of knowledge and organization of this book . The author has included spells, potions and what crystals to use for each intention. I like that the author included what crystals can be toxic and how to best care for your crystals. She includes which are fragile and how best to treat your crystals when not in use. The care of crystals is very important to practitioners of crystal magic and this is a great guide for beginners I recommend this book for those who have knowledge of using crystals and beginners. A enjoyable rad that I recommend .
All kinds of interesting things about gems and crystals and what one could get up to with them. Nice tidbits on practices involving such natural beauties as fluorite, labradorite, pyrite, malachite, selenite, larimar, amwthyst, black tourmalline, garnet, citrine, etc.
NB: no, don't put crystals in boiling water, these can easily get a bit spoiled. Fluorite, particularly, should not be warmed up beyond some degree. NB: celestine can be radioactive. fluorite as well (particularly orange-yellow and dark purple-black varieties. So, be careful.
I have to start this review by saying, I am not much of a crystal person. But this little book is a real gem...pardon the pun ;) If you want a quick guide to find out more about your rocks and to unlock their magical potential then this is the book for you! I am also loving the cute shape of this book. It makes it perfect to keep on your desk or in your handbag! Highly recommend this for Crystal lovers and all those new to the world of rocks and magic.
