Tainted
Socialite and philanthropist Elizabeth Hartman Richardson wants to start a new life after divorcing her husband when he's arrested for using the family restaurants to money launder illegal gambling receipts. The FBI suspects her of knowing about the crime and many in Fort Worth lose trust in her ability to be an effective fundraiser. Taking her college age daughter and pup with her, Liz drives to Red River, New Mexico to spend the summer at her family's cabin, hoping to find solace. I finished Tainted today and really enjoyed Marsha West's book. I looked forward to reading it each night. Ms. West is a master at writing about Second Chances. I believe most of her books have this theme. And I always enjoy the mystery aspects of her stories.
I liked all three of the main characters. Like so many romance and cozy mysteries, it's almost cliché that the protagonist is going to fall in love with the chief of police, the marshal, or the cop investigating the case. I didn't mind that in this story. Liz and Matt had a history, and I liked the character of Marshal Matt a lot.
Also there is non-stop action. When you think that everything that could have happened did already, there will be more that occurs. Brava, Marsha West!

If you like action-packed Romantic Suspense this is the book for you. The way West vividly describes scenes pulled me into the story from the very beginning. Her characters are memorable and the family connections hear-warming.

A real page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have every other book by this author. It held my attention throughout. Wanted it to end and didn't want it to end!!

There is something to be said for a strong, courageous female lead. Regardless of the genre, I find that these novels pull me in, and spit me out wanting to be a little bit better, a little bit stronger, and a little more independent. This story was comprised of a couple strong female characters, being Liz, and Lauran (her daughter.) Their relationship alone tells you what kind of Mother Liz is, and how much of her life she devoted to motherhood. Her little pup Charley seems to be quite adorable as well.
We’re thrown into a whirlwind of events when the FBI come pounding on Liz’s door in the wee hours of the morning, and you’re quickly brought up to speed on the goings on of what she’s been through over the last couple years. Once you get the backstory, Lauran and Liz make their way to Red River, NM, from Fort Worth, Tx. Marsha R. West does a phenomenal job at setting the scene, and you feel as though you are along for the ride, through the scenic drive. The easy conversation, and getting to know both these characters is done, flawlessly!

I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging novel, the first one I have read by this author but it definitely will not be the last. This romantic suspense story was a real page turner and had me hooked from page one. When socialite and philanthropist Elizabeth’s husband is arrested for money laundering she looses the trust of those in her hometown of Fort Worth. Having divorced her husband she takes her teenage daughter and their dog and drives to Red River, New Mexico to her family’s cabin to spend the summer. Liz was hoping for a peaceful holiday away from the suspicious looks and the FBI who still suspect her of knowing about her husbands crime, however danger seems to have followed her.
When Liz asks local law enforcement for help she’s surprised to find that the town’s marshal is her old high school sweetheart Matt. Matt had moved to Red River to escape the Dallas murders that took his partner's life. Matt is determined to keep Liz and daughter Lauran safe. The more time Liz and Matt spend together the more they try to fight their attraction for one another but maybe they can both have a second chance at love. The setting really comes alive due to the descriptive narrative which made me feel immersed in the story. The characters are all likeable and relatable which helped me feel engaged with them. Tainted I felt was a must read after reading the description and I fell in love immediately. The story is quick to draw you in with Sarah getting woken up by the FBI looking for documents her ex-husband stashed inside her house. We quickly learn who the bad guy in the story is but even knowing the information she manages to keep you hooked, on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what happens next. Her descriptive characters allow the reader to picture them in their mind and the scenic description in Red River makes you feel like you are walking the town with the main character.
The author makes you pull for Matt and Sarah to rekindle the romance they had in high school. And for the sexy marshal to pin down who is behind the threat on her life. The author pulls you in to the drama knowing Matt is trying hard to protect Sarah especially after losing his wife to a deadly disease. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and may provoke sleepless nights as you fight to read to the very end. I cannot recommend this book enough and am so very glad this author came across my radar as I was searching for a new book to get lost in.

Elizabeth Hartman thought she had a near-perfect life: loving, successful husband, 2 children, a nice home, and the chance to volunteer to help those less fortunate than herself. But that all falls apart when her husband is arrested and convicted of money laundering. Hoping to escape the past, she and her daughter Liz travel from Fort Worth to Red River, New Mexico to spend their summer at their family cabin. But they just can't seem to escape their past, which includes Liz's high school boyfriend, Matt, who just happens to be the sheriff of Red River. Trying to stay away from the danger that seems to be following them, Liz also finds herself trying to avoid rekindling the flame with Matt.
Marsha West knows how to write a fantastic novel! Liz and Lauren, her daughter, are strong lead women characters, which is always a plus in any story. Matt is likeable, and Gerry, the ex-husband's evil just seeps right off the pages of the story. Marsha draws the reader in and the mystery involved was a fun one! Definitely a 5 star read! I enjoyed this romance suspense story. This is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and kept me engaged to the end. This is a well written story about starting over and finding solace from the past and second chance romance. The characters are relatable and made the twists and turns edge sitting just waiting to see what would happen next. They brought suspense to a new level in parts and just kept me turning pages. I enjoyed what they brought to the story and also the growth with them. Liz and Matt are both trying to find solace from the past so they end up back in the same town. They have a past together but will fate allow them to be together this time? Will Matt be able to believe in himself and protect Liz? I really enjoyed their chemistry together. I found myself hoping they would get their happily ever after at the end. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Tainted is a fantastic romantic suspense novel by Marsha R. West. I had not read any of this author’s work before reading Tainted so was unsure what to expect from this book. What I can say is it’s one of the best books that I have read in a while. I was really gripped by this book and did not want to put it down.
I absolutely loved thew two main characters Matt and Liz. Both are very relatable characters and you really become invested in their story. Along with these two, Liz’s daughter Lauran and Matt’s daughter Sarah also play very large roles in the book. I really loved the relationship between Liz and Lauran. There is such a close bond between the mother and daughter and both would do anything for the other.
There is a lot of drama and suspense in this book, related to Liz’s ex husband who is in prison for money laundering. He’s determined to get Liz back and causes mayhem for her, even from his prison hospital.

This book was very mature in both writing style and plot. As a recently acclaimed adult (20 as of a few weeks ago) I found this book to be hard to connect to until a little farther in. The writing style is exactly what I look for! But talking about divorce and having adult children and fund-raising projects, made it a little less connectable for me, but after the plot got going, I did not care! I was up until 2 a.m. so I could finish!
Liz was having such a hard time between her friends and her ex-husband that visiting the little summer town of Red River was exactly what she needed. But it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for a while. But Matt, his daughter Sarah, and Liz's daughter Lauran make it as enjoyable as they can for her. This is a romance book with the idea of being able to get a second chance in life. Liz, the main character, finds herself in a horrific situation when her husband is arrested for money laundering. Although she did not know of his illegal activities, her life is now turned upside down. And everyone assumes her guilt by association. Who could take this for too long? Of course, she needed a break. So she finally decides to retreat to her family’s cabin in the mountains. Here she is reunited with her high school sweetheart.
I am not usually a romance book genre lover, but I have to admit that I fell in love with the character development in this book. Marsha R. West does a wonderful job pulling you into the emotional side of these characters and builds you to want to read more. I am definitely glad that I decided to go outside of my normal book genre. I look forward to reading another book from Marsha R. West.

Okay so I was late to the game of watching the Breaking Bad tv show and just binged watched that this summer with the gf and this book gave me crazy Breaking Bad vibes! Which is a good thing! I loved it. I loved all the action, drama, suspense, and the underlying romance kept me on my toes and really invested in the characters completely. This is my first time reading Marsha R. West as well so I am super excited to have found a new author to dive into a catalog with hopefully!
This book takes you to the beautiful mountains of New Mexico with Liz, good name eh lol, as she tries to rebuild her life after her husband is found guilty of money laundering. It isn’t going to be an easy break away though as the danger follows her. Matt the love interest is only the icing on the cake in the story I tell you that much! This is one you don’t want to miss if you love suspenseful crime novels with romance!

Tainted was a really enjoyable read. It didn’t take me long to become fully absorbed in what I was reading. This is the first book that I have read by this author and definitely won’t be the last. I really like the main character, Liz; she had been through so much in her life and she dealt with it so well. She was a likeable character and I enjoyed reading about her. The cabin in the mountains that she went down sounded so lovely and idyllic, definitely what Liz needed after everything with her husband. Sparks definitely flew when she was faced with someone from her past. I loved the twists and turns in the story, the author did a great job with the suspense running through the book.
Overall, I thought this was a great read and one I would highly recommend.

TAINTED by Marsha R. West. I loved this book! Its the story of socialite Elizabeth whose husband is arrested for money laundering thru their family restaurants. The FBI is convinced Elizabeth knows all about it so she divorces her husband and moves her and her daughter to Red River, New Mexico. Her family has a cabin there and she plans to spend the summer there until she can figure out what to do. Hoping to find some peace and quiet she is surprised when trouble once again finds her. Looking to the local sheriff for help she realizes its her old flame Matt. Matt is determined to keep Elizabeth and her daughter safe and will do whatever it takes. As Matt and Elizabeth spend more and more time together old feelings come back and sparks begin to fly. This is such a good drama with suspense and even a little romance!

Tainted by Marsha R. West is a romance suspense story. Liz Hartman is attempting to find her way in the world after a divorce. In Fort Worth where she lives, many of her socialite friends have shunned her because of her husband being caught by the FBI for money laundering. To find some solitude and a quieter life, Liz and her daughter Lauran head up to New Mexico where the family spent many summers at Liz’s mother’s cabin. But it seems Liz cannot escape trouble which isn’t exactly helping Liz find solitude. The good thing is there are many folks in New Mexico who believe in Liz and help her reclaim her life. It doesn’t hurt that the town Marshall is her high school boyfriend Matt Thornton.
Overall I loved this story and can’t wait to read more books by this author.

This story has made my top ten list. I love a good suspense story. This is a well-written thought-provoking story. Have you ever started over from a bad romance and look forward to finding yourself again.? That is what Liz and Matt are doing. There is a bit of a problem. They have a past but can they have a second chance at love? Both are running away from their troubles, but will the trouble come looking for them? This story is a page-turner. It keeps you wanting to see what is going to happen on the next page. I enjoyed Liz and Matt’s relationship. I was cheering for them to get together. I highly recommend this book to see if Liz and Matt’s relationship blossoms or see it go by the wayside.

This book has an interesting premise, incorporating some danger and intrigue with romance. Marshall Matt Thornton is a tall handsome drink of water that might just be what parched Liz Hartman needs after an acrimonious divorce from her criminal ex-husband. Liz' character is drawn well, we get to see what's going on in her mind as she tries to put some distance between herself (and her grown children) and the terrible reputation the man made of their last name. The writing flowed well, but I found myself a bit bored with the mundanities of the story. I wanted some deeper insights, and more than a purely plot-driven story. However, it is an easy-to-read book that crime/suspense fans may enjoy.

Liz needs to get away with her daughter from the life she had. They find themselves in a beautiful place, but their serenity is short lived. However, where there is danger there is one man who has sworn to serve and protect.

Marsha R. West delivers a story of strong female characters who are the focus of the events and are the heroines of the novel. Setting the story in the traditional mother-daughter relationship, Liz and Lauren are two women who display fortitude and courage. With a visit from the FBI, the reader is taken with leads from Red River, NM, from Fort Worth, Tx. and back into a previous romance. West weaves some serious suspense into the story and the plot moves along at a good pace. Her true skills shine in the conversation between the characters where the paper fades and the reader becomes part of the scene. A lovely read and one to be recommended by many!

The suspense in this book kept you on your toes, you are so into the characters that all of sudden something happens and you are shocked. When you think it couldn't possibly get worst or that nothing else could happen to our amazing strong independent heroine you are wrong!
The ending threw me for a loop, I thought all was peaceful and calm and the book took a different turn!
I love the relationship she has with her daughter, it is nice to see her daughter support her through the hurricaine that was their father. There isnt much info on the son but that seems typical after the ordeal and the mess he had to pick up now managing all the stores by himself.

This is my first book by Author Marsha R West and I really enjoyed the suspenseful romance story. This story is about Liz, who ends up divorcing her husband gets arrested for money laundering. The FBI also think that Liz had knowledge of her husbands illegal activities. Eventually, Liz and her daughter pack up and decide to go to her family's cabin in New Mexico. When danger follows her to New Mexico, she go to the local police and only to find out that the town marshal is her old flame from high school. I love a second chance love that also has suspense wrapped into a fantastic book. Thank you Author Marsha R West!

I loved this novel right from the start. Elizabeth is an engaging and relatable heroine, and I really enjoyed the dialogue between her and her daughter, and their affectionate relationship. I particularly loved the description of their drive to Red River. The setting adds a special dimension to the story, and I thoroughly enjoyed finding out more about this part of the world. Matt Thornton is a strong and sympathetic character, and everything you could ask for in a hero. With its drama, romance and wonderful setting, this novel made for a page-turning read!

What a great romantic suspense story. It drew me in straight away and o could not put it down I had no idea what was going to happen. Elizabeth is such a strong female character it was great to see. She goes away with her daughter as she feels in danger when finally luck is on her side the local sheriff was her high school sweetheart, can she get another chance at a happily ever after?

If you like action-packed, romance, and suspense all tied into one then boy oh boy is Tainted for you. Ms. West quickly grabs her readers in the beginning with a fascinating plot line and fabulous characters. With so many twists and turns in the story you find yourself really diving in, and not being able to wait to see what happens. Ms. West vividly describes her scenes and characters so beautifully that you can’t help but get sucked in, and the heart-warming family touch really helped as well. Over all I rated this book 5 out of 5, and will definitely be looking for more books by Ms. West.

Tainted is another great romantic suspense novel in Marsha West's series, Second Chance. Talk about suspense. Although early in the story we know who the bad guy is, West builds the suspense that kept me reading. Probably because the characters are well-developed and I connected with them. Love the real location of the story. I can tell from Ms. West's writing how much she loves the place too. Sounds like a place we would enjoy visiting. This is a book any romance reader will enjoy.

This was a sweet but also suspenseful book. The main character, Liz, is very lovable. The book was a little bit wordy in descriptions for me so it took me a minute to get into it but by the 3rd chapter or so I was hooked. This is one of my most favorite kind of romance books because it has a happily ever after ending. When you think you have everything figured out something else happens and surprises you.

Tainted by Marsha R. West is a great romantic suspense story that really kept me on the edge of my seat turning the pages to see where it was going. The author has done such a wonderful job of building the story. The characters were engaging and I felt like I got to know them throughout the book. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I will definitely be reading more in the future.

Second chances don’t come often. So when they do you jump in and hang on for the ride. This page turner will keep you wanting more and more.
Liz is trying to come to terms of the past and move on. All the while someone from her past keeps trying to ruin her. But an old flame (Matt) might be able to help since he is the Marshall of the town!
Watch out, this story is pretty great. And worth the read to find out the ending!!

This is a very nicely written book. Liz ex husband Gerry has left her in a pickle she's now trying to rebuild her life. I admit the cover didn't atract me to the book but once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I have downright love every minute of reading this book. Liz and Matt I connect so much with them I rooted all the way. I will be looking forward to reading more from this author.
