About the author

Meena Prabhu is an acclaimed author of Marathi travelogues. She lives in London.

That was one magical trip to Turkey!
This was my fifth travelogue from Meena Prabhu and as expected, she did not disappoint me.
Turkanama had an accidental birth. It was originally planned to be in the same book as Greekanjali but had to be split into two parts as the combined book would have become too large. I had read Greekanjali many years back as a child, and hence I could recall many references she made to Greek mythology and to the things she had seen in Greece just prior to this trip.

Before reading this book, I had a different image of Turkey in my mind and little did I know about it. Turkanama is a comprehensive study of Turkish history, people, culture, and geography. The narration is so captivating that throughout the time I felt like I was travelling alongside the author - seeing new places, meeting new people, gaining new experiences, and hearing from the guides. She spent about a month in Turkey and tried to cover almost all the famous and many offbeat places during her stay. She has given a detailed explanation of all of them. Turkey is a magnificent country and there is much more to it than just the Ottoman Empire. I never thought that I would be finding such an amazing treasure of the Ancient Greek and Roman Empires in Turkey. After reading this book, Turkey has jumped many places up on my bucket list!

This is the second book of Meena Prabhu which I managed to read during my India visit.
Meena Prabhu went to Greek and Turkey. She wrote a travelogue and went to her publisher, that's when she realised that she needs to split it in two book. First one was Greekanjali and other was Turknama. I am yet to read Greekanjali.
Like 'Maza London' this book also dwells more into history than what to visit, how to visit and other things, which as a travelogue reader I would love to read.
There is no doubt that this is another good book from Meena Prabhu. I liked this more than 'Maza London'.
Hoping to read remaining books soon.

Amazing book by Dr. Meena Prabhu. It’s all about history, sightseeings & her experiences during her visit to Turkey. She was there in Turkey for almost a month when she tried to cover almost all important (& offbeat) places & sightseeings. Her writing style is different & she gives more focus on history & culture. So even if one is not planning to travel there, he will still enjoy this book.
So, in short, this book is not about ‘how to travel & where to eat & sleep’ like travel guide; but it definitely helps to shortlist ‘must visit’ places. And understanding new culture & places is what I enjoy most from all her books.
