Interesting, but very depressing story topped by silly cliffhanger end. 4 of 10 stars

I heard some of the ladies in The Shades of Pink Social Book Club group on Facebook talking about this book. So I used my Audible credit and purchased it. Plus it’s by one of my favorite authors.

Overall the book was ok. At certain times I zoned out. I had to stay focused or I would get mixed up on what character it was.

I’m still trying to figure out in narration why the narrator always said “We heard,” for some reason that got on my nerves. I’m still a fan even though I enjoyed other JaQuavis books more.

We heard Monique say she still going to read/listen to part 2. 😂

This is not the quality of work that I am used to by JaQuavis. This book did not hold my attention like previous books. I will purchase book 2 when it's available because I know he's a great author and I want to support. I am hoping that book 2 is far greater than book 1.

Listened to this as it is only available in audiobook form.

Pros:
1. Nice story.
2. Short and to the point
3. The ending was really good. Wild & unexpected
4. I would definitely read (listen to) a part 2 if it were to come out

Cons:
1. Money was GREEN!!!!!! Lawd was he green! I understand there are folks with book smarts & street smarts but geez…he had all the book smarts and nothing else. And most kids of addicts have street smarts
2. Plays out like a screenplay. I didn’t really like that. It’s very descriptive so I didn’t need to hear them tell me about puddle sounds & chains clanking. I can picture it on my own.

Out in the streets as a young hustler trying to provide for your family you take risks. Dodging the enemies and cops and just trying to survive from day to day. Someone will always try to steal the bag or take over your territory. You have to do what you have to do to survive. Revenge and payback is at the top of the list because scared money dont make money

Loved the story line but the narration killed it for me. If there are sound effects, I felt like the narrator didn't have to tell us that the toilet seat was being lifted, or the door was closing, etc. Other than that, just waiting for part 2 to be released so I can find out what happens next.

I listened to the audiobook and I must say that I am in love. The narrator was sooooo good. With the added sound effects, I was having a showing for one in my head. I cant wait to listen to part 2. Please let part 2 be an audiobook.

This audiobook had the worst narration ever! I don't understand why the narrator read the descriptives (we heard glass breaking...) after hearing the sound effects of it why would narrator read it?

I think that I felt where the author was trying to go with this storyline but I felt that somewhere throughout the telling of the story it had gotten lost in translation a bit, which was too bad.
