A self-published companion-book to Burrows' biography, The Magic of Terry Pratchett containing the transcripts from interviews done while researching the book, essays about the process and reactions and guide to each of Pratchett's novels. Only available from Burrows' website as a 'special edition' add-on to the main book which is described as "the DVD extras".
Assorted full interviews, factfiles for each Pratchett novel and lost footnotes from Burrows' Pratchett biography: essentially an extras disc for a book, but a good one, ie I still misted up a few times. Ah, Pterry. Also felt mildly abashed at the line about hardly any of the readers of the main book pointing out the typos: I was one of the few, but I thought I was helping, honest.
Curiously, while I was reading this on the train, and looking whether it was on Goodreads, someone across the aisle's digital assistant started bellowing that they had been looking for books about turtles, which the owner claimed was nothing to do with them. Terry's GNU code getting mischievous in the wireless?
Turtles All the Way Down is a thoughtful, engaging, and deeply rewarding companion to The Magic of Terry Pratchett. Marc Burrows offers fans a treasure trove of interview transcripts, behind-the-scenes insights, and heartfelt essays that enrich the reading experience of his main biography. It feels like opening a box of bonus content made with genuine love and respect for Pratchett’s work. A must-read for devoted Discworld fans and anyone fascinated by the craft behind great storytelling.
Positioned as a rough accompaniment to the Magic of Terry Pratchett, there was only so much that can be achieved here.
Whilst it contains several wonderful quotes, insights, and trivia which would otherwise be lost to the aether, these are hastily scrapped together with not much effort in the way of polish or narrative sequence.
Do read the core work though (The Magic of Terry Pratchett).
