Rebel with a donut is a sweet summer romance, found family young adult novel! Emma like rules. She hates breaking them. Her Grandmother and Grandmother's friends, however, are on a mission to break their grand children's bad habits - including Emma sticking to rules. It's like golden girls meets breakfast club meets romance. I loved this book!!! I thought it was so funny. The found family trope was done so well. The relationships are built steadily and reasonably. I loved the sweet romance between Emma and Tyler. And I LOVED the chaotic Grandmothers. They were iconic, and deserve long, happy retirements. Go read this book! It is the perfect summer vacation read. I immediately want to re read it.
I loved this book. It was really cute. It makes you inner laugh and will make a smile come out of you. I didn’t get the whole deal of Emma not telling Tyler they went to the same school. The plot as a whole was kind of silly. Like yes, in life things are embarrassing, and I understand why Emma didn’t tell her they didn’t go to the same school when they were just friends because really it didn’t matter, they would never see eachother again. But when they became a thing and he may move back to where she lived, I didn’t get why she didn’t tell him than?? Like girly you gotta just be tough and not hold back. But I did like this book, I like how Emma was becoming more of her inner self and breaking rules...because girl was too much of a straight rule follower. So, it was nice to see a change of view to see her breaking rules and getting out of her comfort zone. I did think that Tyler and Emma made a cute couple. Even through I only pictured them in my head, I could just feel their vibes marching eachother. I thought that Tyler and Emma made eachother better and I’m glad I got read this!
This was a unique YA book! What do you get when a group of teenagers visit their grandmas in a retirement community? Shenanigans, challenges, and fun! I enjoyed the fun and unique plot line, and I liked how distinct the characters were! All the teens have a habit that needs to be broken (phone addiction, study addiction, people pleasing habit, etc), and they all help each other and grow to care about each other. At first they only do things together under the coercion of the grandmas, but I enjoyed seeing the development of the characters and the bond they formed as a group! Chrissy Q. Martin wrote an interesting and compelling novel, and I look forward to reading more by her!
