If a secret wolf society thinks they can take me down, they’ve got another thing coming. There’s a reason they call me Graves.
It’s not my fault I’m a psychopath. What else would happen to someone who witnessed her sister’s murder? Without magic in my arsenal like the rest of my family, I have to rely on other methods: sharp knives, stealth, and killer instincts. And hey, killing pays the bills.
I’ve been a magical dud all my life, the black sheep of the Falcon witch line, but my family are liars. When I’m stalking my next victim under the blood moon, I sprout fur, sharp teeth, and a fuzzy tail.
It turns out I’m a dual-blood, both a witch and a wolf, and now I’m on the radar of the Crescent Club, one of three ancient societies of witches, wolves, and vampires.
I’m given two options: move into Blake Hall, a dark gothic mansion in the middle of nowhere, or get my power stripped.
Luckily, I have five dangerous psycho mates on my side: dominant alpha Dean, insane vampire Slasher, sweet bookish Brannigan, my silent shadow Hugh, and cruel Edison who rejects me but can't deny our chemistry.
Killer Crescent is a paranormal romance with psycho men, a badass FMC, twisted romance, and lots and lots of bloodlust. Secret societies, killer wolves, dangerous vamps, and cunning witches lurk in these pages, but all of them will meet the sharp end of Rebel Falcon’s knife. This book is medium burn, with moderate heat, and multiple love interests.
Leigh Kelsey is the author of romance and reverse harem books for anyone with a soft spot for steely women and the tortured men who love them. No matter what stories she's writing - vampires or shifters or bad boys - they all share a common thread of love, heart, and action. She is the author of the Lili Kazana series, the Moonlight Inn series, the Dead Space stand alone, and the Blacktower Prison for Supernaturals series, plus many more books.
That was... pretty damn good. And different from other psycho RH where the love interests are cruel douche-canoes who don't deserve any kind of redemption. One of her mentally unstable men was definitely a twat and I can only hope she won't ever forgive but he was more of a brat than an evil piece of shit.
Disclaimer: The book is full of triggers, hidden under weird inner monologue and a crazy heroine. Look at the end for more details. Second disclaimer: It's late. I don't think my sentences make sense.
Rebel is a killer, an assassin-for-hire with a special liking for body-carving and unoriginal pink hair. She's insane but kind of hilarious, and she newly found out her prestigious witch of a mom banged a wolf resulting in her hybrid self. When she shifts for the first time and awakens the magic dormant inside of her, some random seers send a hot older wolf to bring her ass to some kind of academy where they learn nothing -or prison, depending on her mood. There she meets the mate who rejected her years ago, new ones, and eventually someone who tries to murder her.
It's a bit of a fast pace, both in story and relationship. Her acceptance of everything that is happening to her is a wee bit mindblowing, but it's not that unexpected either as she has more than one blown fuse. Not many things make sense; we follow her as she has to go through weird and barely explained trials, we don't really get anything about her dual heritage or powers, the attempted murders, or anything else, but we do get a tragic backstory and at least two murderous men to go with Rebel's psychotic behavior. But while the author didn't bother too much diving into an intense plot and intense twists, the story is rather exciting thanks to this nutjob of a heroine. I'm on the fence about the sex scenes but I'm all for the whole lot of crazy this first book just brought into my life and I can't wait for the next book.
> No MM (I don't think there will be in future books) > No FF > one, two, three, four, five? guys > Single POV
Trigger warning: Psychopath, sociopath, insanity, murder, violence, gore, dominance, mentions of neglect and abuse. One of her guys also calls her little slut which is a hard pass for me. And as for her backstory, it includes (it's a big spoiler that gets revealed past halfway!):
PS: I don't like the footnotes, it's not comfortable to check back and forth while reading.
This was amazing like I’m not even being funny this book right here ticks all my fantasy rh boxes
Rebel Rebel Rebel She’s fucking hilarious. I love her sm, I want her brain so bad. The way she thinks made me die and her random comments😭 She’s so confident and stabby. Defo one of my fave fantasy girls for sure.
I feel for the girl I really do. She was treated like shit by her family for not having powers, rejected by her mate and another thing which I won’t say as its a spoiler. All this shit made her into the crazy assassin girl she is.
The guys omg🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 We have.. Dean- the dominant alpha wolf who’s also a professor sorta guy🥵 he’s sexy af Slasher- 502 yr old vamp🤤 I wish we saw more of him as I love him sm, his nicknames for Rebel🥺😂 so cute but so funny. Hugh- the stalker giant wolf guy, I honestly loved him straight away. He’s such a sweetheart, the way he’s scared in case he hurts Rebel as he’s so big and strong🤧 Edison- very powerful witch who also rejected Rebel. I disagree with his past actions but omg he’s so so hot🥵 like guys he’s the cocky, flirty and irresistible one 😩 ughh Brannigan- very old American vamp, he’s super cute with his bow tie🥺 we didn’t see much of him but I can tell he’s gonna be a big part in the next book.
There was loads of plot twists in this book which I loved!!!! AND THAT CLIFFY AT THE END😩 GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK RIGHT NOW
When I picked this book from my TBR, I was looking for something fantasy, short, fun and spicy...and that's kind of what this story delivers.
For me, a lot of the dialogue was too cringe-worthy, and all the characters seemed a bit juvenile. There was also so much going on in this 200-page book I felt like I was drowning in tropes:
1. Female assassin exiled from family 2. Fated insta-mates. Actual dialogue: “Mate?” “Mate” 3. Forced to attend magic school/jail/boarding house 4. A series of trials and tasks that made no sense 5. A murder mystery 6. A serial killer boyfriend And so, and so on. I skimmed the last 20 per cent, so there's a chance I missed some too.
There was also the footnotes? I couldn't figure out how to get to them quickly or easily in my kindle, so I gave up after chapter two.
I was a bit at odds with Dean’s character, I got the vibe that he was a military hardass, but then he was described as wearing tweed jackets... It made no sense to me. The spicy parts with him also felt confusing; it was a mix of praise and degradation but too muddled to enjoy.
Honestly, this book could have achieved much more if the story had been more straightforward. The FMC didn't need to be an accomplished assassin if she was going to need saving after every trial - but actually, were the trials even necessary?
I almost forgot too that this book is set in England? The FMC is from Birmingham, which is where I live?! I'm not sure where the author is from but there’s nothing British or brummy about this book.
Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this book. But if you do fancy it, check the trigger warnings!
So where to start? At first, Rebel seemed to be a caricature of one of those goofy and crazy fmcs that I tend to like but instead in this instance—found kind of annoying. That was my first impression of her… but as I continued to read Rebel quickly grew on me.
Because, not only is she unapologetically crazy (which she has good reason for) she’s an absolute horn dog and I loved how sexually confident she was. I actually ended up loving her, because she was for lack of better words HILARIOUS. That girl has a one track mind sometimes and IT was absolutely entertaining.
As for the men, I liked most of them and can’t wait to read more about them, especially Brannigans and Hugh. However, the nicknames/pet names I have to say they quickly got exasperating and I think the author can afford to have the characters cut back on them a little bit. Except maybe for Slasher because at the very least he switched it up and it seemed to be part of his charm/ thing.
I really liked Dean and how alpha and protective he was of the fmc, but…Edison. I don’t think I like him, and unless it turns out he was celibate the whole time after rejecting the fmc. I’m going to continue to dislike him because I don’t think his reasoning for rejecting the fmc was good enough. Also, I’m not fond of the fact that it seemed like she was ready to forgive him near the end. I don’t think the hardships they faced together in that moment makes him automatically deserve forgiveness, so I really hope she doesn’t quickly offer it to him in the next book.
I will say however that I’m glad the fmc wasn’t celibate after his rejection, because some authors really love to do that to their Fmcs (it’s a hate crime at this point) and then have the man that rejects her bang everything with two legs. I’m very much over THAT in rejected mate trope thank you very much, so I’m definitely grateful to the author for not doing that to this Fmc. In regards to the plot I liked it a lot!! There was some cheesy moments but it was still very entertaining!!! I will definitely be reading the next book.
I love myself too much to continue letting myself suffer through this.
1. Every time Rebel speaks I'm reminded of a sullen and whiny teenager not some supposed seasoned assassin. Also, I feel like I was lied to. I went in expecting a badass heroine, so why on earth did she need saving THROUGHOUT THE FUCKING BOOK?? Every single fucking time a trial went wrong she had to have someone save her. This is the so called seasoned assassin who's been killing for years without leaving a trace and not getting caught??? Yeah... No
2. The sex scenes..... EW🤢🤮
3. Dean weirded me out then quickly grossed me TF out. I like my serial killers with a sense of justice (🤣okay I know how that sounds but think Dexter). From the little that I gathered about Dean, he seemed to kill just for the sake of it and No. Just NO.
4. The weird ass relationships - They had no background. It was just "You're my mate and so we're together now. We like each other and are willing to kill for you". No background, no let me get to know you. FUCKING NOTHING!!!!! Even the drama with that mate that rejected her was lackluster.
5. Also the story doesn't flow very well. There's too much happening and none of it is explained or properly explored. Plot holes everywhere
6. Every time I picked this up I'd end up dozing off. That alone should have pushed me to dnf-ing this earlier🤦🏾♀️
I.couldn't finish this book if I tried. I'm sorry but it was just down right childish. Everything happening in this book is silly, and cringe worthy. Nothing makes any sense, how did we go from having to go to Blake hill to learn magic and to control her wolf, to having trials that ppl are dying in and if you don't pass u end up going to jail? Our H seems more interested in killing ppl then trying to figure out herself with her new powers or her wolf. Her mates, all old and ancient powerful beings who act like children. The sex scenes are a joke! Honestly the whole book is a joke. Don't waste ur time.
Im not sure if a book about a Paranormal assassin should be a source of bonkers fun and a few laughs but thats what i found myself doing reading this book. Rebel (FMC) is slightly nutty (but in a good way) and has a strange way of looking at things but my god i loved her as a character. Under all that shes caring and loyal which is a complete contrast with her job as an assassin. Shes also deeply hurt by her upbringing and the fact that she had no magic. Which was a sad part of the book. When she gets a invite as such (not by choice) to enrol at Blake Hall or go to prison things get more interesting and dangerous for Rebel. With the inclusion of Sexy Sir - Dean, Stalker - Hugh, Vampire - Slasher, Book smart american - Brannigan and the mate who rejected her witch - Edison. Swoon.............lucky lady!!! Full of action, plot twists and plenty of steam too. Its a cracking read and a blindingly good cliffhanger ending. Im dying to get my hands on the next book now
If you like reading about totally crazy pscho FMC, this book is for you. Be aware that Rebel isn't only a serial killer but she's delusional, talks nonsense, and sounds psychotic most of the time... At first it was funny but then it became annoying. I found as well that the world building lacking in some way. I'm not sure if I would read the next book...Let me think about it...
4.6 stars. Yes. Just yes. Bloodthirsty psychos are my absolute favorite. And these ones are deliciously violent and rough. And then there’s also the sweet ones who melt through the thick shell.
I’m in love. I want them all for myself. Yes, I understand that’s crazy… Don’t care.
This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won’t be the last. I really loved Rebel and her quirky, snarky, psychotic thoughts. The guys are equally insane and just as fun. I’m hoping we get more time with Hugh and Brannigan in the next book. Dean and Slasher were great, but Hugh is just melts. Also make sure to read the footnotes - they are great! I can’t wait for book 2 :)
This book is absolutely hilarious honestly I don’t think I’ve cackled so much along with a book in ages. The footnotes are too funny! The FMC Rebel is pretty heartbreakingly (for a good reason) pretty deranged and crazy but hey all the best people are right? Her mates are… well you’ll see… 🔥🔥 I may of licked a certain SexySir he’s mine… fair to say it’s spicy! This is not a book to be missed!
So this has been an interesting read thus far. A psycho heroine coming into her powers, albeit late, sent to a school where she meets her mates and has to compete in trials to prove her place in the world. Rebels’ experiences have shaped her into who she is and that’s someone who likes to get a bit stabby, so much so she’s only known to the world as Graves-a notorious killer. Course someone like her will not get normal or sane mates and so her time away is spent either screwing her mates, fighting with them or fighting for her life in some weird trials. Plus someone is trying to kill her and its possibly the mate who rejected her a few years ago. Steady pace kept things moving along and a cliffy end has me needing to dive into the second half of this duet!
Killer Cresent is the first book in the Rebels and Psychos series by Leigh Kelsey. The story centers on Rebel Falcon who is an assassin and has mental health issues, like legit crazy. She gets herself sent to an academy that's doesn't seem like an academy, some really shady stuff there, and not all the residents are sane. Hijinks issue, mate bonds are formed, and attempt of murder happens. The story was quirky, entertaining, and dark.
Rebel is insane and she knows it, she doesn't fight it, she leans into it. She knows who she is and she's fine with it. Reading from a main character who is playful, deadly, and insane is a little different but I like her upbeat crazy. Her inner commentary (read the author's footnotes) is funny and the pop culture references were cool. Rebel obviously has her issues, her sister was her only support system and after she was murdered it broke something in her. As the assassin Graves, Rebel is confident but as herself, she has to build up her confidence. Rebel is a little lonely but she finds her mates and they don't mind a little crazy.
There are at least four mates, Dean "Sexy Sir", Hugh "Stalker", Edison "Thomas", and then Slasher who I don't know his real name but gives the sweetest nicknames. The guys are just as crazy as Rebel and just as violent too. Honestly, the whole group is a mess but things are going okay, except for Edison there's history there. I do have a feeling there is another mate but Rebel hasn't realized it yet.
The story is a little crazy. What's up with this school? Things most definitely don't seem right and why are all the people (students and staff) seem like they all are at least a little crazy. Something is most definitely going on but I can't figure out what, something was hinted at towards the end but I have a feeling something else is going on besides that and I can't figure out what.
Killer Cresent was my first ever Kelsey book and I really enjoyed the weirdness of it all. The story ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, I'm so curious what's up with Rebel and I'm hoping she gets a little revenge against her those who wronged her.
Dnf at 30 percent. I am only writing a review so that if I try to pick this up again I won't because I keep convincing myself to give it another shot and every time I can't read it. I am even going to remind myself why I don't like it so I am not tempted.
Spoilers ahead.
1) I love a psycho main character as much as the next girl. A little unhinged and unchecked can go a long way in getting in a cool head space for a story. It's why I've come back to this book a few times. Now here's what goes wrong......she's annoying...she just is. She says odd sayings, and there are some lines I just cringe so hard I thought my face would stick.
2) Fated mates and instalust. While sometimes this works out great.....it does not here. The werewolf I can say okay fine some cringe lines but nothing over the top. The vampire? Be kidding. He calls her Puddin. Which is a direct reference to the joker and Harley Quinn. Which if that's because of them sure, but if it's just a weird look into the folie a duex then no. And then the rejected mates 🙄🙄🙄 so over the top. Maybe it's because we are stuck in the main characters mind but everything was annoying and dramatic like the end of the world was occurring when small things happened. Which again if that's your thing go for it. It is very far from mine.
i love love love me some crazy anti-heroine. and instead of abhorring girly things to portray their independence and "bad-assery" like a lot of authors have done i adore that this fmc embraces her hyper-femininity. shes just a crazy serial killer who loves pink and all things cute. this is honestly my favorite genre of heroines. i love rebel's personality and how she interacts w her mates.
bookwise i can tell this is short with no enough time to develop and several plot holes which is a shame. this has just so much potential wish it was a proper full length
I was pretty sure that I'd love this book since it was written by Leigh Kelsey and she wrote the Lili kazana series that I'm absolutely in love with and I was right.
I love this book, it was very refreshing. I love how obsessive Slasher is cause it's actually adorable, Dean is growing on me and Hugh is absolutely adorable. I love Rebel too.
I love the writing style and everything else about the book and I'm really looking forward to completing the series.
Leigh Kelsey is fast becoming an author that would be an instant read for me and I love it!!!
Ok, so I was think "Zombies? Werewolves? Witches? Vampires? Stabby, badass witch-wolf hybrid? Yes, please!" But here's the thing, I didn't like the book that much and I didn't care much for the characters either. All-in-all it was OK. 3 stars for the killing and steamy scenes.
Dark and gritty, and so funny! I love the snarky humor, the strength of the FMC, and the sexy mates. So much story packed into this book. Can't wait for the next one!
Not gonna lie, there is barely any world building and all of the characters are deranged but it works somehow. This book never takes itself seriously but manages not to be stupid for the sake absurdity. These characters are flawed and broken but they are ok with it, making it easier for the reader to enjoy the ride.
I enjoyed the beginning as the FMC is pretty funny, she gave me psychotic Willa vibes.
However, there is a huge lack of relationship & world building. I was bored halfway through. I honestly didn’t know where this book was going with anything, there were just too many things going on.
She goes to this Blake Hall to learn how to control her newly awakened powers and nothing happens with that. She learns nothing yet gets thrown into these ‘trials’ and if she passes she will be released back into society. But nothing is actually explained, so how do these ‘trials’ determine whether she is rehabilitated when she doesn’t even know how to use her powers? No one is training her on anything. She sits in her room or fights with people and does her trials.
And then, we also have someone trying to kill her that just randomly shows up, but not much happens with that either.
There was no relationship building just sex. She’s having sex with them or making out with them before they really even talk to each other. I was 75% in a still knew nothing about the guys. Barely knew anything about the FMC except she is psychotic and likes violent & degrading sex. I didn’t like the sex scenes with Dean, they were horrible. Not sexy at all and made me skip large parts of the book.
I enjoy the beginning of this book, the FMC was quirky, psychotic and fun.
The footnotes got old very quickly. Clicking on the footnotes pulled me from the story. I wish The author had just made the footnotes part of the story.
The FMC is sent to Blake Hall to learn how to use her magic and control her shift aggression. On the first day of classes she is said to have a trial and failing this trial will lead to jail. This makes absolutely no sense.
In all the trials the FMC had to be assisted by a mate. She couldn’t complete a single task on her own. She is supposed to be a resourceful assassin.
The same attempted murder trope has been used three times in this book.
I don’t know what to say about the mates, as there was nothing really said about them, maybe in the next book.
I had a hard time completing this book as it became predictable and repetitive.
This book was hilarious. I absolutely adored the female main character, Rebel. She is too much. Just such a great character.
The setting reminded me a bit of an academy and a paranormal prison mix. Not a lot of characters were introduced but it was easy to differentiate between them all. The love interests were very memorable as well, it’s hard to pick a favorite but I’m pretty sure I have my top two. I think. For now.
The book ended with a little bit of a cliffhanger, more like a big question/mystery to be solved with the next book(s). This book was a bit more of a introduction to the characters and a little bit of background knowledge. I think the next book will be even better than this one, even if it’s just Rebel talking nonsense I would devour that book as well.
Insta lust or love with every “mate” she has I mean she hooked up with one the day they met… in the car after just letting him into her apartment like they knew each other forever. The dialogue is juvenile. I HATED the footnotes bc I can’t highlight them with the text. Like they were just additional inner monologues just put it in the fucking text like everyone else does…. I don’t get why they are footnotes. Footnotes are meant to define or help understand something? these were like “his name was bob 1” *clicks the 1* “or Dave” like what the fuck was the point of making that a footnote. JUST PUT IT IN THE SENTENCE
Picked for the cover, it looks like Barbie found out Ken cheated. Not just one killer but all of them. Lost count of the guys, think it was two wolves, two vamps and a witch. All protective, all insta mates except for one rejected mate. Fast paced, trials and plenty of crazy. Doesn’t have the confined feel that comes with most prison and asylum books, which is why I liked it. Definite Harley vibes. Will be interesting to see what happens next.

I finished ‘Killer Crescent’, Book 1 of ‘Rebels and Psychos’ by Leigh Kelsey and I gotta say, it was FANTASTIC 🤩! (FYI, I’m not affiliated with the author and there are NO spoilers! This is just me as a regular reader going nuts over a book I love 🙌🏻)
OK ✅! Where do I start?! This BOOK, man 👏🏻! So FUNNY 😂! If you like a QUIRKY FMC that makes you LEGIT LAUGH OUT LOUD 🤣, this is YOUR girl 🙌🏻! She’s a bit of a psyc0p@th 🔪 to be fair 😅… but it’s so well done 😆! Her inner monologue is right on point 🎯! Not to mention… the author does something I HAVE NEVER- EVER- SEEN BEFORE 😲! Which is saying A LOT 👆🏻!
So I’ve never seen an author have little cliffnotes 📝 like THIS throughout the book!! SERIOUSLY, you click 🖱️ on a little number next to a word and BOOM 💥! UP opens MORE inner monologue from the FMC that is HYSTERICAL 🤣! I have NEVER seen an author use cliffnotes 📝 that way and I gotta say, I’m a FAN 👏🏻. I think this might be CUTTING ✂️ EDGE 📐folks! And if I’m WRONG… if this is COMMON and I just didn’t know 🤷🏻♀️… WHELP! I’m sure someone will let me know after this! 😅
OK!! So the STORY 👏🏻! It’s actually pretty GREAT 👍🏻 . This is such a FUN 🤩 Why Choose! It almost pokes 👉🏻fun at the number of mates a FMC can have 😆… and HONESTLY, I’m here for it 🙌🏻! I was LEGIT rooting for EVERY new mate and to be fair, even the one we are supposed to h@te 😱! I gotta say though, the VAMPIRE 🧛♂️ that can’t stop calling our girl names after SWEETS 🍭 and yummy 🤤 food, is probably one of the MOST unexpected personalities from an OLD vamp I’ve ever read and I absolutely ATE IT UP 👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻!!
Oh the story 😆! Yeesh 🤦🏻♀️! I digressed, didn’t I 😅!! WELL! There is a BADA$S 🤺 FMC named Rebel (I mean, GREAT name amirite? 🙌🏻) who is basically an a$s@ssin 🥷 for hire! She’s a dud of a witch 🧙🏻♀️ that came from a PRESTIGIOUS witch family that all of a sudden, find’s herself in the precarious situation of a HOT 🥵 S&XY 🍆 SILVER FOX 🦊 (ok.. ok.. he’s a WOLF 🐺 ) that basically says she has to go to some place to learn her magic 🪄 or it’s exnay on the keeping the magic eh 😫!! FORCED to make a decision, our girl is thrown into a situation where she’s confronted with one HOT 🥵 S&XY guy after another…! And again, let me tell you… I was LOVING 🥰 each and every one! 😍😍
So if you are looking for a WHY CHOOSE with streamlined ➡️ writing that jumps RIGHT into it, a FMC that is b@llsy with quite a chip on her shoulder & with a tr@gic 😫 background, FUNNY 😆 inner monologue that even extends into the cliffnotes 📝, and some pretty H0T 🥵 guys with some H0T 🥵 STEAM 🌶️… this is for you! Oh and yeah it’s got a cool non-romantic plotline too 🙌🏻… so good in fact, I’m about to start book 2 now! 👏🏻👏🏻
So if this sounds like your JAM 🍞, give it a shot 🎯! It’s free on KU and you never know, it may just bring out the REBEL in you!
