Friendships and Forests are both in Flames!

Also by this author: Avalanche and Chased. I highly recommend both!

Likes:

~Every book of the series has offered some sort of wildlife/wilderness survival information and Ablaze is no exception. I feel rather confident in knowing that one cannot outrun a wildfire uphill. And the thing about the caterpillar walk while hiking a long steep section, was really neat! That's one thing I admire about this series. It's not just entertaining but informative too.

~The friend drama at the beginning not only grabbed my attention but set the stage for the rest of the drama throughout the book. As for Shelby, I did not like her at all, but she added conflict, so I'll let it slide.

~The natural disaster didn't happen until after halfway through and I really liked that. It's like each book set the disaster later and later in the story. I was kept anxiously waiting for everything to go wrong.

~There were great lessons including forgiving others and ourselves, having respect and showing kindness to our enemies, and what makes a good leader.

~The ending and Sawyer's speech = chef's kiss

Dislikes:

~Marlee dealt with a ton of self-doubt, which is fine and all, but there was a lot of self-negativity to the point that it was repetitive and kind of a downer at times.

~ Marshall and Marlee make a cute couple but I'm undecided about their misunderstanding. I'm not sure if it was completely necessary to the story or not.

Overall:

~4 stars! This was a fun addition to the series. I hope we haven't seen the last of the Miles and Stanely group.

~Recommend if you enjoy good clean fun adventures with mild peril and strong life lessons.

This last book was very intense. I liked how Marlee had to overcome her fear of being a leader and how she needed to realize that she had the skills necessary to teach people. I liked seeing the relationship between the kids continue to grow and to see them grow in their faith. I also loved how Marlee led the group of people she was with through the wildfire. That would have been a scary experience but because of her faith and her training from her parents she was able to get everyone out safely. Overall, I thought this was a great YA series that shows the power of faith and trusting in each other.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

This is an action packed novel for youth. It will especially appeal to those who like out door activities like hiking. I liked the additional information included such as about trees and parasites and forest fires. So there is plenty of adventure in the novel and its informative too.

Marlee is a good lead character. She learns a great deal about relationships and being a leader in this adventure. I liked that she realizes leading is more about being willing to serve rather than having lots of experience. She learns to rely on her faith in God too.

Adventurous teen leaders will like this novel. It contains plenty of action, insights into faith and relationships and just a hint of teen romance. Potential readers should know that the plot includes a forest fire.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.

It seems that disaster follows Marlee everywhere she goes, as Ablaze starts out with another tragic event that rocks the confident Marlee to her core, setting herself up to question herself and every choice she makes throughout the whole story.

Marlee is now seventeen, and all the things that come with that age are on her shoulders. A childhood friend that she is growing apart from, her questionable feelings about her best friend Marshall, and doubt about her future are all spinning in her head as her family again takes their yearly trip, but this year “the fab five” are asked to be apart of a youth outreach ran by rangers that have helped them in years past, and Marlee is shook when one of the girls doesn’t like her, for no reason whatsoever.

Out of all three books, this one spoke to me personally the most. I have an individual in my life who does not like me for some unknown reason, and it seems like the more I’ve tried to be nice to this person the more they don’t like me. After reading about Marlee and Shelby’s situation it reminded me to pray for my own situation, and pray for resolution and a softening of the heart, just like Marlee prayed for Shelby.

There is a moment in the story where Marlee realizes that harboring bitter thoughts about herself is a form of unforgiveness and this was a lightbulb moment in my own heart, as I have been really struggling with bitterness towards myself a lot lately. I love when the Lord uses fiction to speak into my life.

Not only is there an actual fire in this novel, but Marlee’s mind is ablaze throughout the entire novel, and the heat is most certainly felt. There is also heat in other forms, but I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. Just know that it all ends happily, and with everything tied in a sweet little bow, and I was grinning that goofy, satisfied smile at the end.

This series has been such a fun experience that I was sad to see it end, but I relished every moment, and feel so grateful and thankful that I had the opportunity to read it.

This book is a satisfying ending to the Off the Itinerary series. I think I liked it better than either of the other books, in fact. The action in this book was more realistic than in the two preceding books. I also appreciated the discussions about boyfriend/girlfriend issues, with a healthy emphasis on being serious about choosing a life partner. In my experience, it is difficult to find a Young Adult book that isn’t either fantasy or dystopian, or heavily focused on romance. This series, while there is some romance, is more focused on survival in life-or-death scenarios in the Montana wilderness.

I received a review copy of this book from the author, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

The Off the Itinerary series continues to reach new heights as Marlee Stanley tackles a rocky friendship, a hotheaded peer who seems out to get her, and her feelings for a certain boy, all while learning to be the leader God has called her to be. M. Liz Boyle tackles the topic of showering difficult people with grace and forgiveness, making this a must-read for Christian teens. Adventure seekers who loved Avalanche and Chased will fall head-over-heels for the adventure that heats up in Ablaze!

A huge THANK YOU to the author for letting me read an early copy! A positive review was not required to receive the early copy of the book.

Ablaze, Book 3 in the Off the Itinerary series by Liz Boyle, is a great ending to a wonderful series. It’s still packed full of outdoor adventure, knowledge of survival skill sets, and this time, also explores Marlee’s struggles more in depth. The book is written in Marlee’s point of view, as are the rest, but instead of focusing solely on the two families adventuring, 13 other teens are brought into the story line and we get to see the fab five teach their skills to “newbies.” The underlying theme of the book shows the importance of not letting others’ “opinions of you stop you from reaching your potential,” especially when that opinion might be false or misread. Poor Marlee gets her fair share of trials in this book, but it wasn’t until she relied on God and His opinion of her, what she knew to be true, that she could live up to her true potential, no matter how much encouragement she received from those she loved along the way. I love how the author seamlessly weaves biblical truths throughout the story line and keeps things moving so that I want to read “just one more chapter”. While these books are geared toward middle school/teens, they are wonderful reminders for adults too, as well as highly entertaining, and great books to read together with your kids, giving lots of material to start some meaningful conversations together. I’m sad to see the adventures of Marlee, her sisters and friends come to an end. However, the way the author wrapped things up brought the series to a great ending while allowing the reader freedom to fill in the blanks with more adventures these kids might get into.

I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from the author. It is completely my honest opinion.

We find ourselves joining the group again on another hike. This one has a bit more detail about the forest and I learned a lot from the author. I knew what this story was going to be about but I knew the author had a few surprises in store. Marlee and her sister are teamed up with Ranger Rose to lead a group through the forest. I love the outdoors but I really don’t care to hike at all. It sounds exhausting and dangerous at times.

Marlee was interesting because she was wrestling with her fear of being a leader. One girl in the group intimidates her and causes Marlee to hold back. Will she miss her opportunity to grow as a leader? Seems that someone is going to have to face her fear and God is about to test her. Isn’t it funny the things we fear are the very situations we find ourselves in. That moment defines our faith and trust in God.

I did like the part about an emergency that happened with one of the girls. The author does a great job of teaching readers about allergic reactions and what to do when it happens. Poor Marlee is right in the middle of the emergency which causes her to doubt herself even more. I can relate to Marlee as she is very insecure about herself. It is hard when everything seems to go wrong around you. It sure doesn’t help that one of the hikers is mean to Marlee. Shelby has an attitude and I think she may be a little jealous of Marlee.

There is a lot of adventure in the story but the lessons are more valuable to me. The author does an amazing job of showing us how to trust, forgive and follow our dreams. Having confidence in yourself helps you to achieve your dreams. Most importantly we need to always invite God to be with us on our journey through life.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

A part of the “Off the Itinerary” series of books, I looked forward to reading this next installment about the Stanley family and the Miles family. Containing mishaps, adventures, and a reliance on God and their faith, the two families experience the great outdoors together.

This book focuses on Marlee Stanley from the very beginning. She winds up questioning herself after an accident happens with her best friend in the car. Then when the two families head to Montana for their annual hiking adventure, more things cause her to question her abilities and talents given by God. I could definitely relate to Marlee in this book. With an older sister who seemed to have it in the way of friends, artistic talent, and confidence, I constantly questioned my place in the world. But with God’s direction, I found my place and Marlee experiences the same type of wake-up call.

This Christian Young Adult novel and series deserve to be read and appreciated. The family dynamics and the way the characters develop captured my attention. I also appreciated the fantastic descriptions of the outdoors. I also enjoyed reading about Marlee’s older sister Ellie and her boyfriend Sawyer Miles. The book illustrates how we need to give God control and let Him lead our steps. I feel sad that this book concludes the series. I want to read more about Marlee and Marshall Miles. I feel like I want to learn more about their journeys. So if you enjoy books that explore the great outdoors and God’s plans and purpose for our lives while focusing on faith and prayers, check out this book and series for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but it in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Ablaze is a Christian young adult book that is written by M. Liz Boyle. This is book three in the Off the Itinerary series. I have read the 2nd book, but not the first one. I read this with my 10 year old son. This book is geared toward young adult ages 12 and up. This group of friends has gone through a lot together - and this time they are out for a hike. Should be safe after the last ordeal. It has been a year since they were chased by the lunatic (book 2). They decide to go back to Montana and go on another hike.

This book focuses on Marlee. She wants to be a leader, but is scared to do so. However, true to the bad luck that seems to follow our group, they are separated from the Ranger Rose and Marlee finds herself having to navigate through a wild fire. Marlee really has to step up to get everyone out safely.

While I did not read book one, I love the character growth between books 2 and 3. Marlee has matured and grown. I love that the author introduced an emergency (allergic reaction) for our characters to grow and learn with. My 10 year old enjoyed learning about the various nature facts that have been dropped in here. He said he learned a lot about forest fires.

I am sad to see the series end. The author has a gift of writing with a target audience, but wrote so that adults can enjoy the story too.

I received a copy of this book through Celebrate Lit blogging program, all thoughts are my own.

A year has passed since Marlee and crew were chased, and they are returning to Montana to hike and join the rangers they met for a youth hiking program.

An event at home has shaken Marlee’s confidence and one of her peers in the outdoor program is making her question herself. But when danger is upon them, Marlee steps up into the leader role she’s never quite seen herself in.

While Ablaze can be read as a stand-alone book, I recommend reading the series in order because readers watch the progression of maturity in Marlee over the time span of the three books. Avalanche and Chased are told from her perspective but reflect the group dynamic. The series finale is all Marlee’s story with her doubts, disappointments, faith, and courage.

I was bummed to discover Ablaze was the final book in the Off the Itinerary series because of the connection made with this group of friends through these three books but look forward to what M. Liz Boyle will bring readers next. If you are looking for uplifting books that will keep your teen readers engaged, this series is a must add.

I read the first book in this series, and somehow missed out on the second one (which you know I will definitely try and read it, even though this book gave some spoilers). I really enjoyed the first one, so I was really excited to see Ablaze going on a blog tour.

While the first book, Avalanche, focused more on the adventure aspect, Ablaze honed in on Marlee and her insecurities, which I really appreciated. Marlee not only went on another physical adventure, but she also went through her own emotional and spiritual adventure. We got to see her as she struggled with friendships and not having any confidence in herself. We watched her as she was being encouraged to lead but felt like she couldn’t or shouldn’t.

I also once again learned so much about the great outdoors in this novel as I did with the first one. It’s one of the reasons why I like this series. It’s entertaining as well as informative.

And onnce again, there was a strong Christian element as Marlee learned to trust God through everything she went through. I found her strength and faith admirable, and I rooted for her throughout the story.

Chased is the third and final book in M. Liz Boyle's Off the Itinerary series. While it can be read as a standalone just fine, I definitely feel like you will get the most out of the story if you read them all.

What can happen next to this group of teens who have endured their fair share of natural disasters? A forest fire of course. Once again, this story takes us on a high action adventure that will keep you at the edge of your seat. While I am certainly far from the teenage audience this book was truly intended for, I found it to be an enjoyable read nonetheless. There were certainly times when I could tell it was written for young adults and know that they would enjoy it and connect with the characters even more. The elements of faith mixed in with a fantastic adventure are just the kind of story I would have enjoyed as a teenager, and just the type of story I would like my own teenager to enjoy too.

Overall, this is a good read. If you have a young adult reader in your life (or just enjoy some great adventure yourself), this is certainly one to check out.

This is the third and final book in the Off the Intinerary series and continues the adventures of the Stanley sisters and Miles Boys. If you haven't read any of the series I definitely recommend that you do so that you get to know these characters and see their growth throughout the series. In this book the author focuses on Marlee and her struggles with becoming a leader. Her self doubt is the main theme of this book and how God can help you overcome those fears and make you a great leader.

This is definitely a book geared towards tween and young adults. The themes and the circumstances that we face in the story are topics that are very relatable to teens nowadays. The author is definitely very relevant in her writing and she provides you with so many amazing details you feel like you are hiking with these kids!

Overall I thought the story was well written and engaging! If you are looking for a great series especially for your tween this summer I recommend you grab this one!

I have enjoyed getting to know the Miles and Stanley kids in M. Liz Boyle’s Off the Itinerary series. The story in Ablaze focuses on Marlee as the adults in her life try to foster her natural leadership abilities while Marlee struggles with her own insecurities. These are issues that many teens struggle with, so they will be able to relate to Marlee . Boyle also includes information about forests and fires. There is enough action to keep the story moving - it was a “can’t put this down” book for me. If you’ve read the previous books in the series, you know about the friendship between Marshall and Marlee - it adds an interesting element to the story in Ablaze.
Teens who enjoy adventure and the outdoors will enjoy Ablaze and the other books in Liz Boyle’s Off the Itinerary series.
Ablaze would make a great addition to a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for high school, middle school, and possibly older elementary.
I received a complimentary copy of Ablaze. This is my honest review.

This book had very strong Christian morals, discussing leadership skills and forgiveness. While I felt it told more than it showed, it was still a pleasant read! :)

It is also very educational! I feel like hardcore hikers will absolutely fall in love with this story!

Cleanliness rating: 4 stars
• mentions of drinking at parties
• mentions of a jerk boyfriend who has a liking for excessive PDA
• retelling of a wet, see-through shirt on a young lady
• mention of "handling periods while on trek"

My heartfelt thanks to the author for putting so much work into shining a light in the darkness! This book was very real, and I loved that aspect! ❤️ I hate to give it three stars, but it did fall short in some areas for me.

Disclaimer: I heard that this book is a good standalone as well, so I decided to read it without reading the other books in this series. I may have enjoyed it better if I would've read the other though. Lol.

Ablaze is the third installment from the Off the Itinerary series by M. Liz Boyle. I enjoyed the first two books, Avalanche and Chased, and was excited to have the opportunity to read this one. I thought it was a great addition to Marlee’s story. Since it is part of a series, it would be best to read the first two books first. I loved catching up with Marlee, her sisters, and her friends to see what happens with them next. I was not disappointed. It is not a long book and was easily read in just a few hours. I liked it.

I am giving Ablaze four and a half stars. I recommend it for teen readers who enjoy reading adventure stories. It is an inspirational story that would be a good influence on them.

I received a copy of Ablaze from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

I have really enjoyed the books in this series. You don't have to read them in order to enjoy them, they do stand alone. That being said, I would say you get a better read if you do read them that way. There is a lot of action and adventure in the story. There is also a lot of information and things to learn here.

We are on a hike again and things aren't going quite like Marlee would hope. She has to face her fears and embrace that God is there all the time. The author does a good job with teen characters and I love having books like this to point my kids towards. Overall, it was just a good read.

4/5

I have enjoyed this outdoor adventure series, even though it’s written for youth. All ages can join the Stanley and Miles families in their hiking and camping and experience the surprises and dangers that occur. This novel follows the teens as they join the rangers they met in the last book and help in a youth wilderness program, using things they’ve learned from their previous trips, with Marlee as the main character. The challenges she must face stretch her and her faith. The story can stand alone, but reading the three books in order gives you the whole story in order and allows you to see the characters’ growth journey. Of course, Ablaze contains a wildfire, and we learn survival techniques along with the other tips included as a natural part of the story. It would make a good one for a book discussion group for youth. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. all opinions are my own.

My 10 year old son read this book and here are his thoughts:

This was the second book he has read it this series and liked this story even better. There are 3 books so far in this series but they don’t have to be read in order.

He liked all the action in the story and the fires were intense. He liked their adventures and learning about the trees, hiking and forest fires.

Good, clean Christian fiction book and series for older elementary school, middle school or teenagers. Interesting and engaging for any age!

"Ablaze" by Author: M. Liz Boyle is the third book of this series. I have read the previous two and I think every book was better than the one before. Therefore, this is the best one in my opinion. If you haven't read the other two books, you can enjoy this one but it does mention facts from the previous ones.

This novel also tells about forest trees and plants as part of the story. It was a added bonus for me. I liked that this book is a clean read and shares about teens learning to trust God.

This is written for teen readers but I really enjoyed reading it.

I enjoyed this series about Marlee and her sisters as they work together with their friends to survive several natural disasters. The ongoing story is one of building relationships and growing closer as they are forced to depend on one another to survive through an avalanche, chase, and fire. My children have enjoyed series by Bear Grylls, so I know that they will enjoy this one as they get a little older!

Liz Boyle does a great job giving the reader tons of info about hiking, and forest fires, and safety, while building likable and unlikeable (intentionally!) characters. It was a sweet story for young teens! It touches on many teen hot topics. Hopefully, Boyle is hard at work on another book, because I can see her growing stronger and stronger with each story!

I loved this book! It is book three in a series called Off the Itinerary geared towards young adults and teens. You definitely have to read this series in order to get the most from it because they do reference events that have happened in the first two. And of course, because you will miss out on a lot of the story before the story that you desperately need!

When I read that this is the finale for the series it left me very sad. It’s a great series that my kids and I are loving. I’m sure you’ll love the characters as well.

In this last installment, you get to see Marlee and her sisters as well as the Miles brothers again. Ellen is off on her own with school but back with the family for this excursion. They’ve been asked to help out with a camping hike by the Rangers. They have the knowledge to share and everyone says Marlee is a great leader. Everyone that is except her best friend and this one girl in her hiking group.

But things go from bad to worse with Marlee not knowing about the life-threatening peanut allergy of another hiker and then a forest fire starting. Can Marlee live up to the leadership potential so many others see in her or will she just let everyone down? And what about the relationship between Ellen and Sawyer? But even more than that what about Marlee and Marshall?

I guess you’ll just have to read the series to find out because I’m surely not going to tell you! They’re wonderful books!

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Such a perfect conclusion to this trilogy! Whether we see more of the Stanley sisters & Miles brothers or not, I’m happy either way!
First off, the main love story of the trilogy wraps up beautifully.
Now onto the main girl Marlee, her inner struggles with her leadership & relationships with those around her (including a budding love interest) are really brought to life by some difficult personalities & situations.
Of course the titular forest fire was built up perfectly, so when that took off, so did my adrenaline. Haha
By the end, my happiness for these fictional people was off the charts.
I really look forward to M. Liz Boyle’s future work! This trilogy was great fun to read!
