Lucy Burgess feels like she’s lost it all. After losing her job in New York City, she's forced to move back to her hometown with her mother. Living at home in her mid-thirties isn’t how Lucy envisioned life. And she's finding it hard to see the light. But there’s hope when she meets Aria Caspar, the pretty local barista, and Lucy's first friend after so many years away from home. While Lucy yearns to return to the big city, Aria shows her all the things she’s given up to chase her cosmopolitan dreams.Amid their blooming romance, Lucy discovers that Aria has her own challenges to contend with. Can Lucy and Aria push through the loss and heartache together and get back on their feet?
The first bok from Nicolette after her absence during 2020.When I got her mail telling me it was out I got it immediately. The title fits well into the crazy times we are living, even though nothing reality related is mentoned apart from an economic downturn, but that we have been dealing with before the scare turned the whole world into a madhouse.
Reading this wonderfuly sweet romance was a welcome relief from my efforts to finish another novel of my own. Like with all her books I was rooting with both charatcers, who in this case were particularly cute (Aria) and struggling with her fate (Lucy). The interations of the two from the start have a sweetness about them that warms the heart. Both of them are struggling with what their life has become, but bubbly Aria has enough cheerfulness in dealing with her struggles to still be able to lighten the mood of Lucy, as with every new encounter they fall for one another.
This tale is full of love and hope and also criticism of a world, in which sucessful work seems to be defined by the amount of stress you have doing your job, creating a life that seems to be pressuring people to do everything in a rush. Quiet Madeira in Wisconsin has just enough calm still, to slow down Lucy and make her realise, how good it is, not to be under pressure 24/7, either with work or with trying to live some crazy idea of social life.
My smile never really left my face for long reading Back on her Feet. The romance is so cute, gentle and loving and both ladies are able to actually laugh together and tease each other, what greatly helps them both with falling in love. What I also love is that yes, there is sex between them, but it isn't what their romance lives off, what feeds the romance is the closeness and like-mindedness they more and more discover. The physical attraction is just the icing on the cake.
Having gotten into the mood again I think I might return to my other two favourites of Nicolette's: The Geek Girl and the Ballerina for another Nico-fix.
It’s nice to see the return of Nicolette Dane after some time off from writing. Back on Her Feet is a story of perseverance after Lucy loses her job in New York City and is forced to return to a Detroit suburb and live with her mother at thirty-five. Aria is also about to suffer a loss of a different kind.
The story is low angst for the most part and describes what each young lady does to get their life back on track and find love on the way.
Of course being laid off does counts for stepping away you still something to help with payments. Getting a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop not far from her new place, moms house, starts Lucy with the means to getting her life back in motion. Aria the local barista needs help finding her way also. The two of together strive and make things better for each other. Enjoy!
Two women with different lives. As one has to move back home and readjust to finding a new job hopefully back to New York. The other is taking care of her elderly father and has no other choice. As things change one realizes that she happier now and the other is free to be herself. A lovely story to read
This was a sweet love story. In the time we are experiencing now, bouncing back after loss of any kind is just a positive thing. This story reminds us that things are possible if you try and understand what your goals are and where your happiness is. Good Job!
This is a nice, sweet story about two women who lived very different lives. One small town, the other big city. But when they meet up, they begging to see that they may be more alike then they ever imagined.
Second chances don't come better than this because life is a journey and as yet unchartered so when your feeling low take a leap of faith just like Lucy and Aria did, a lovely book with just a hint of contentment..
When you lose your high gluing job in a great downturn and have to move home and learn what's important and realise you don't want NYC and you find somone to live in your old hometown. Notvresl but a great fantasy and a good read.
What a great story of resilience this was! Aria and Lucy find strength in their friendship, and budding relationship, to turn life's apparent darkness into a new light for themselves. Put this book on your must read list!
