If Lissa Alexander puts her name on something, it is quality. Some people do the minimum, but that is not Lissa. She has gathered diverse and talented quilters for the projects in this book. Lissa has contributed her own quilts, made color options for the quilts of other contributors, inserted tips, and wrapped the whole book in the theme of being at school...the scrap school. She's got a puzzle quilt in the book, too, which I spent considerable time studying!
There are some interesting designs. Some have alternative coloring which I like. Most projects are relatively easy to construct. I'm not the best at scrappy quilts. I like uniformity and order. Often they're too busy for my taste. But there are several projects I would like to make.
This is a fun book for quilters. I enjoyed the different designs- especially when you saw each design quilted in different color schemes. I also enjoyed the designers tips for designing aesthetically pleasing quilts with scraps. The directions seemed well done.
My favorites were the Sea glass Star, ombré baskets and Charming patchwork.
I love quilting so I pick up almost every quilting book I see. I love to see what others are doing & use them to inspire me. I hate to say it but I got little inspiration from what I found in Scrap School. I'm really glad this was a library find. I would have been totally miffed to spend $28 on something I'd never use.
As with all quilting books, the fabric selections can really make or break the appeal. These contributors really did an excellent job in their fabrics. Just because of looking at the photos, I’d love to make every pattern.
