Dan Sugralinov grew up in a small working-class town on the Russian border with Kazakhstan. It’s a miracle he survived his childhood games of hide-and-seek in the surrounding building sites complete with perilous rebar structures and flooded foundation pits.
Ever since he learned to read at the age of five, he couldn’t put a book down. Reluctant to earn himself the name of a conceited nerd, he concentrated on playing soccer which allowed him to become friends with the town’s toughest kids.
In 1995, he graduated with honors, entering the St Petersburg Academy of Engineering and Economics where he studied business creation. He must have done something right because in the years that followed, he first worked on TV and radio just to get the taste of it, then opened his first successful business followed by several more. In between, he started writing and playing video games, winning the St Petersburg Mortal Kombat championship and becoming runner-up for Starcraft and Warcraft 3. He is a 14-times champion in Quake, Quake 2 and Quake 3 as well as the world’s ex-#1 in the World of Warcraft.
In 2004, he wrote his first motivational novella The Bricks which to date has garnered him over 3,000,000 readers online alone.
In 2014, Russia’s leading publishers of business literature Mann, Ivanov & Ferber published a revised and extended edition of his book, The Bricks 2.0.
In 2015, Dan discovered the existence of LitRPG. He devoured everything that had been written in that genre until he finally decided he too could write similar books.
In summer 2017, he published his first book in the subgenre of realRPG: Level Up.
Dan Sugralinov is a consummate gamer, a multiple MMORPG champion and the world’s ex-#1 in the World of Warcraft. He is also a successful businessman and author of books on marketing and business organization. His first LitRPG series Level Up took Russia by storm in 2017. Its English translation is about to be released on Amazon.
This is another series where I get ARC's to check the translation from Russian to English. I like this series. It's different from most Litrpg and is just a fun story to follow.
Combined review for books 1-9 as I read them all before writing the review:
Certainly an interesting setting, both the world outside as well as the game. Sugralinov has setup and interesting and a little frighteningly plausible future where ai and robotics has progressed to the point to make most humans unnecessary. To keep people busy, and give them work, they've created a ubiquitous online game that people are required to play for a certain amount of time each day when their young, and when their older they can earn money through. Most people are just wage slaves though, restricted to pointless mining or other menial jobs. This book focuses on he higher echelons and the MC doing his best to raise the poorer people's standard of living.
A lot of questions are starting to rise about not just the game but the nature of actual reality as some things seem to bleed through. There's a bit of SOMA happening at one point too. All and all very engaging and I can't wait for more.
So far in this series, I have only given Star ratings, but for fine reason I felt the need to post an actual review. Maybe it’s Behemoth influencing me, may he never wake. I only started reading the series because there are over ten books and I like reading. Mr. Sugralinov has done a great job in adding character depth to the main characters in every book and the story doesn’t really lull me at any point. There have been times where I want to keep reading but know that I will need more than two hours of sleep. The only reason I have 4 starts instead of 5 is due to either missing or added unnecessary words, or small grammar mistakes due to translation. That being said, I am no English language major, just an avid reader. Nothing I couldn’t handle. Keep up the great work Dan!
This series just keeps getting better. The story is complex and in some cases convoluted, but it is easily followed and seriously intense. Mister Sugralinov inserted a very nice set of summaries of the previous books to remind everyone about what has happened before. It really helped considering just how much has gone before and how many characters are in this story. If you'd like litrpg you will love this series!
The best book in the series so far, read the whole book in a day, just couldn't stop reading. All the twists and turns throughout the book showed how the MC growed in character and not just in strength strength. He got outplayed many times but at the end learned from them and struck back harder. Definitely recommended
I received a review copy of this book. Amazing story here folks. If you were like me and putting off reading this one thinking it wouldn't be very useful, I can happily report this book is the best book in the series so far, and you should add it to your read shelf as quickly as possible if you liked any of the books in the series.
The best book in the series, and the series itself is the best in the genre. A little bit of dystopia and science fiction add a special flavor to the piece. Great job, Dan! I look forward to the next book. Fortunately, there is not long to wait.
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
By all accounts, this is a perfectly worded review. Unfortunately, some of our fellow readers are offended that I am not pouring my heart out and offering a detailed and intimate breakdown of my thoughts on the books. As such they have reported me to the authorities and I have been warned against continuing my bad behavior. I will not. So I may be banned. If so, it was a fun journey with you.
If I enjoy a book, my goal is to promote it and help the author by encouraging others to read it. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. I am simply saying that I liked it. I would like you to read it and make your own decision. After all, you are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
Not a fan of what I wrote in the title but hey, you’re reading now, right? Seriously some of this was a little predictable, but I still loved the book. Write faster. J/K write right. Super fun as always and hopefully this all ends up a great story. Not that I am looking forward to the end, but also really excited to see how this ends
Amazing action packed sequences, pulling off impossible odds , teetering on the edge of the cliff, shocking betrayal, wonderful friendship, this book has it all. Next one please
All the action that I have come to expect of these books and also with lots of intrigue. There is a twist at the end that even though I knew it was coming I didn’t expect it in the way it happened.
So far my least favorit of the series but still very good. I very much look forward to the next book.
If I could make just one wish to the author it would be this: please, please stop calling all female characters "the girl" all the time. Just... Don't.
This is possibly the best book in the series so far. It is full of surprises and betrayals from the beginning to the end. I wasn't prepared for how much I would enjoy this book, but I'm stoked to see what is coming next
Best book in the whole series! Non stop action,OP Scythe being even more OP.lol Lots of fun. I can't see how this kid doesn't have a nervous breakdown.
